Pm: Miller Beats Davis In 15th District

U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, has conceded in the 15th Congressional District to fellow Rep. Mary Miller, R-Oakland, providing another significant victory to the right wing of the Illinois Republican Party.

With 74% of the estimated vote reported, Miller leads Davis by 12,787 votes, with Miller taking 57.8% of the vote. Miller was endorsed by former President Donald Trump in January, which proved to be a strong sell to much of the strongly Republican district despite much of the statewide party and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy endorsing Davis.

In a statement, Davis said that it was an honor to have served for nearly a decade in the House, congratulating Miller on her win.

“This was a hard-fought campaign and I wish her the best in representing the citizens of the 15th District,” Davis said. “As Republicans are poised to retake the House, it’s paramount that Republicans in Congress work to end dysfunction and deliver results for the American people.”

Pm: Rep Rodney Davis Speaks

2010 Illinois Republican Primary Ballot Summary

At a press availability at the Knights of Columbus in his hometown, U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Taylorville, was reminded that his 2018 race against Betsy Dirksen Londrigan, D-Springfield, was called by The Associated Press at 12:08 a.m.

Asked if he was thinking the “over or under” on that time, Davis reminded that CNN called the race earlier in the evening for his opponent.

“We fully expect to be back here giving a victory speech and not keep you up too late,” he said.

Davis is locked in a tight battle with U.S. Rep. Mary Miller, R-Oakland, in a rare incumbent versus incumbent race. Miller locked up an endorsement from former President Donald Trump when she launched her campaign was aided by an in-person visit by Trump in west central Illinois on Saturday.

But Davis said he felt good about his chances, reminding reporters he had been targeted before in an election by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2020.

“I’ve built, with the help of my great team, an organization that has knocked on 125,000 doors,” Davis claimed. “We’re very confident, just like I was confident in 2020, that tonight’s going to be a great election night for us.”

Davis noted that he’s “never seen” a June election, the primary having been pushed back by state legislators to accommodate delayed 2020 Census data due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s really hot out. I’m not used to that on election day,” he said.

You May See New Names On Ballot For Illinois Primary Election

ILLINOIS The Illinois Primary election is less than four weeks away, and the hotly contested Republican race for governor is on the ballot.

Seats in the U.S. House and Senate, and Illinois General Assembly, are also in contention.

AARP, an organization that focuses on issues affecting people over the age of 50, offers an online voting guide for Illinois residents.

The 50-plus population is the largest and most important voting block in the country, said AARPs Philippe Largent. We are going to be the voters that decide the upcoming elections.

The primary was originally scheduled for March but was moved so lawmakers could redraw voting maps based on the latest US Census data.

The biggest change for Illinois voters is that we have new congressional and state legislative districts and state senate districts, Largent continued. Those are changed every year after reapportionment and redistricting. So, voters may see new names on their ballots when it comes time to vote.

Voters can participate in early in-person voting now until June 27th, or can vote in-person on Election Day, or use a mail-in ballot.

The deadline to register to vote online is June 12th. Illinois also permits same-day registration, which allows voters to register and cast a ballot on Election Day.

Largent said there are a number of issues the 50-plus voting block is paying attention to.

More information is available on AARPs website.

Darren Bailey Declares Victory Vows To Fire Pritzker In November

An ebullient Bailey thanked his supporters Thursday night at a victory rally in Effingham, about 30 miles north of his home in Xenia.

Bailey said his victory sent “a clear message to the establishment and the political elites: we will not be ignored.”

“Your voices were finally heard. The voices of working families, parents, taxpayers, law enforcement, and everyday citizens. Voices from the farms, the suburbs, the city of Chicago, and every place in between,” he said.

Indeed, Bailey is winning in virtually every county in Illinois, as well as in the city of Chicago, where he got 45% of the Republican vote, with approximately 84% of the vote counted.

However, while praising Chicago in victory, during the campaign, he called the city a “hellhole,” and during his time as a state senator, supported a resolution calling on Chicago to be separated from the rest of Illinois.

Bailey said it will be his goal to “Fire Pritzker” in November, blasting the Democratic incumbent’s stance on taxes, law enforcement, abortion, and more.

Four Democrats Vying For Illinois 3rd District Seat Likely To Be State’s Second Hispanic Congressional District

When Illinois Democrats drew up new congressional maps for Illinois after the 2020 Census, they redrew the 3rd District to create the state’s second district likely to elect a Latino to Congress, to capitalize on Chicago’s growing Hispanic population.

With current 3rd District Congresswoman Marie Newman opting to challenge 6th District incumbent Sean Casten instead of running for re-election in the new heavily Latino 3rd District, it’s an open race, with four Democrats vying for the seat: Chicago Ald. Gilbert Villegas , Illinois State Rep. Delia Ramirez, professor Iymen Chehade, and businessman Juan Enrique Aguirre.

While not quite a Hispanic majority district, approximately 44% of the 3rd District’s voting age population is Latino.

Although it’s an open race, Villegas and Ramirez quickly emerged as the frontrunners, both far outraising their rivals.
