When Do The Eagles Play The Patriots

Cincinnati Bengals: Tyler Linderbaum Iol Iowa

Eagles vs. Patriots | Super Bowl LII Game Highlights

Needing a variety of offensive line positions, the Cincinnati Bengals receive a gift in the sense of Tyler Linderbaums slide. Drafting a center in the first round isnt a lot of capital to spend if its a top need, and its a top need for Cincinnati. Linderbaum is absolutely worthy of being placed in the category of generational talent that is what he is. A former wrestler with the knowledge of how best to use his leverage and strength, itll be no time before Linderbaum is dominating on Sundays.

Philadelphia Eagles: Nakobe Dean Lb Georgia

Their third pick in the top 19, the Eagles grab Nakobe Dean to anchor their defense. Dean is a coachs player in the sense that hes essentially a coach on the field. His football IQ is sharp, but his film study relents itself to making highlight-reel plays look routine. He constantly understands when and where the offense is attempting to attack. Combine that with the fact that hes an ox who runs like a gazelle, and youve got a near-perfect NFL linebacker.

Why The Eagles Lost

Well, for one, they started Flacco at QB, thanks to Jalen Hurts coming down with a last-minute illness. The vet started his night by chasing down an errant snap and ended it with just 86 yards on 17 throws. Nick Mullens, the No. 3, was even worse, dancing around in the pocket while trailing by 30-plus. Aside from DeVonta Smith, who got consistent separation in his anticipated debut, no one really popped on the Eagles offense. The “D” wasn’t much better, with rookie Milton Williams maybe the lone standout on a night when other young backups like Zech McPhearson struggled to keep up in pass defense.

Eagles Vs Patriots Prediction Preseason Week 2

Even Philadelphias fans want to see the Birds win every game , taking the Patriots and the money line is the way to go. There are question marks about both teams first-team units, but as we learned last week, Phillys second and third-team units arent good enough to come from behind if need be or hold a lead if Philadelphia carries a lead into the second half.

Philadelphia Eagles beat the Patriots in Super Bowl LII ...

Bradford missed the Eagles’ last two games after being injured in the 20-19 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Bradford left the Miami game with a concussion and a separated left shoulder. He was cleared through the NFL concussion protocol, but he was held out of last week’s game in Detroit because of the shoulder.

Bradford practiced with the Eagles both Tuesday and Wednesday.

“I feel much better than I did at this point last week,” Bradford said. “I’m much more comfortable out there with what I’ve been able to do on the field. It’s starting to feel good.”

started the past two games, which the Eagles lost by a combined score of 90-31.

The Eagles are only one game behind NFC East leaders Washington and New York, both at 5-6.

“Anytime you lose, it’s tough,” Bradford said. “When you’re hurt and you’re not able to be out there fighting with your guys, it’s been tough.

“The good news is we’re only a game back in our division. Obviously, the season hasn’t gone the way we hoped for. That being said, we’re still in a position to get on a roll here and make the playoffs. Every game from here on out is important.”

Bradford worked out before the Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit. He said he made a push to play in the game, but wasn’t able to convince the coaching staff.

“After talking to them, we thought the smart thing was to not play,” Bradford said.

Super Bowl 201: Date Tv Coverage Schedule Location For Eagles Vs Patriots

David J. Phillip/Associated Press

For the eighth time since Tom Brady and Bill Belichick joined forces, the New England Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl. And for the second time, they’ll be squaring off against the Philadelphia Eagles.

New England and Philadelphia also met in Super Bowl XXXIX, following the 2004 NFL season. In that first matchup, Brady outdueled Donovan McNabb en route to his third Super Bowl ring. Brady has since added two more rings, while the Eagles franchise is still looking for its first.

This time around Brady will be opposed by Eagles backup quarterback Nick Foles, who took over for the injured Carson Wentz in December. Despite some early struggles, Foles has found his way and has the Eagles offense cruising once again.

Despite the Eagles’ recent success, however, they’ll enter the Super Bowl as underdogs, according to OddsShark.com.

Super Bowl 2018 Schedule, Odds

Date: Sunday, Feb. 4

Where: U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Television: NBC

Odds: Patriots -5, Over/Under 48

For the Eagles to have a chance in this matchup, they will likely need to keep consistent pressure on Brady.

The Jacksonville Jaguars entered the AFC Championship Game with arguably the NFL’s best defense, but Brady even picked them apart when he was able to stand in a clean pocket. Pro Football Focus shared the quarterback’s numbers when throwing without pressure:

Another key to the game could be something out of both teams’ control: Rob Gronkowski‘s health.

With Philly Resting Most Of Its Starters This Was A Lopsided Affair

Less than four calendar years ago, the Eagles and Patriots met in the Super Bowl, producing one of the biggest offensive showcases in the history of the NFL’s championship game. On Thursday night, they clashed again, but this time amid entirely different circumstances. Kicking off Week 2 of the 2021 preseason, Philadelphia rested most of its starters ahead of its anticipated regular-season kickoff of Nick Sirianni’s youth movement. That included quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was a surprise absentee due to a last-minute illness. The Patriots, meanwhile, got sharp performances from Cam Newton and Mac Jones in their bid to get one step closer to crowning a true Tom Brady successor going into the new year, claiming an easy 35-0 victory in the process.

Owens was cleared to play in Super Bowl XXXIX, defying doctors orders by playing on his injured ankle containing 2 screws and a metal plate.

The other major story was the Patriots’ potential loss of both their offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator at the end of the season, and how it might affect the team in 2005. On December 12, 2004, about a month and a half before the game, New England offensive coordinator Charlie Weis signed a contract to become the head coach of Notre Dame starting in the 2005 season. Rumors were also circulating that defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel would also leave the team to become the head coach of the Cleveland Browns .

Due to injuries at the tight end spot, the Eagles were forced to sign Jeff Thomason, a former tight end who was working construction at the time, to a one-game contract for the Super Bowl. Thomason saw time during several plays, although never had a ball thrown his way. This was his third Super Bowl, playing in two with the Green Bay Packers during Andy Reid’s days as a Packer assistant.

With this appearance the Patriots became the 8th team to make it to the Super Bowl for the 5th time. They joined the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, and Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders. They would be joined by the Green Bay Packers in 2011 and the New York Giants in 2012.

Patriots Seek To Become A Dynasty

New England finished the regular season with a record of 142, bested only by the Steelers’ 151 mark, and ranking 7th in yards gained and fourth in points scored .

The Patriots’ major acquisition prior to the season was veteran running backCorey Dillon, who joined the team after playing 7 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. In his first 6 seasons in the league, Dillon averaged over 1,250 rushing yards per year, including setting a single-game rushing record against the Denver Broncos on October 22, 2000. In 2003, however, injuries, conflicts with the Bengals’ management and coaching staff, and other off-field problems limited him to just 541 yards during the season. By the end of the 2003 season, Dillon had lost his starting job to running back Rudi Johnson, and thus demanded to be traded. Although many observers questioned how effective the 30-year-old Dillon would be after recovering from his injuries as well as his ability to function in a team environment, the Patriots decided to sign the running back in exchange for a second-round draft pick.

On defense, the Patriots were plagued by injuries, especially in their secondary. Defensive backs Tyrone Poole and Ty Law suffered season-ending injuries, while safety Eugene Wilson, who led the team with 4 interceptions, missed several games. In order to compensate for the losses, the following players were promoted to starters:

New England Patriots: Trent Mcduffie Cb Washington

Needing to fill the loss of J.C. Jackson, the New England Patriots absolutely look to the draft at No. 21. Trent McDuffie comes NFL-ready and has the ability to immediately pencil in as the boundary corner. McDuffie plays longer than his frame indicates, and he has keen instincts and plus run defense.

Why The Patriots Won

This will sound like a copout, but the biggest reason New England started strong and built an early lead is because the Eagles rested almost all of their top defensive starters. All week, reports out of camp indicated Philly had its way with Newton and Co., but against second- and third-team D-lines, Newton had little trouble finding open passing lanes. Big plays from Jakobi Meyers and Kendrick Bourne helped. Jones was even more impressive later, carving up the Eagles’ backup secondary with a lively arm and getting assists from a deep running backfield headlined by J.J. Taylor and Rhamondre Stevenson. And then the Patriots defense, headlined by a busy front that included Chase Winovich and Christian Barmore, made Eagles quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Nick Mullens uncomfortable to further bury the home team.

In New England, Bill Belichick is still calling the shots, and it remains to be seen if it’ll be Cam Newton or first-round rookie Mac Jones starting at QB1. In the preseason opener against Washington, Newton completed four of his seven throws on the night for 49 yards, not bad numbers but not great. As for the rookie, Jones completed 68.4% of his throws in the preseason opener for 87 yards.

Pencil In The Eagles To Play The Patriots In The 2015 Kickoff Game

Each year, with the exception of the 2013 Ravens , the reigning Super Bowl winner has hosted the Thursday night NFL kickoff game against another marquee opponent. As Chris Chase of For the Win pointed out, the only two teams worth putting in that spot to face the Patriots in 2015 are the Steelers and Eagles.

Here’s a history of the Thursday night kickoff game:

In the 2015 season, the Patriots will face the following teams at home:

  • Jets
  • Eagles
  • Let’s look at them all individually:

The Patriots and Jets have always had a lot of prime time games, but much of that was because Rex Ryan was always a good story line. With Rex gone, the Jets are still a big market team, but is the NFL really kicking off the season with that garbage offense?

Rex ended up in Buffalo, but who cares? The Bills haven’t been to the playoffs since 1999, or 15 years, which is the longest current streak in the NFL.

Really, you can probably just omit the AFC East in its entirety. The Pats have won the AFC East six consecutive years, and 11 of the last 12. Are there really any rivalries there, or just complete domination over a division by one team?

    Name 5 Titans.

Not sure the NFL wants racism to be the theme of their kickoff game.

The Eagles, by comparison, cracked the top 20 a whopping five times, including the #1 overall rated game of the season:

Eagles Are Favorites To Play Patriots In 2015 Nfl Kickoff Game Per Rumor

Interesting rumor here from Joe Caporoso from Turn On The Jets:

    2) While it isn’t locked in yet, the #Eagles are the frontrunner to play the #Patriots on opening night

    Joe Caporoso

This rumor should obviously be taken with a grain of salt. Caporoso isn’t a regular news-breaker and the 2015 NFL schedule won’t be released until late April. But the chances of this rumor ending up being true seem fairly decent.

Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice already put together a strong argument about why the Eagles should be penciled in to play the Patriots for the 2015 season’s opening kickoff game. New England’s eight home opponents include fairly weak choices: Jets, Bills, Dolphins, Jaguars, Titans, Redskins, Steelers, and the Eagles. It seems like the best for the schedule-makers is to pick either Pittsburgh or Philadelphia.

The Eagles-Patriots match-up just might be too good to pass up. Especially if this is true:

    1) To celebrate the 50th Super Bowl, league is going to have “Gold” weeks that feature multiple historic SB rematches grouped together

    Joe Caporoso

As Eagles fans are well aware, it’s been over 10 years since the Birds lost to the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. Philadelphia hasn’t been back to the big game since. Meanwhile, the Patriots won their most recent Lombardi trophy only about a month ago.
