Arizona Republican Loses Lawsuit Over Attorney General Race

PHOENIX A judge has thrown out Republican Abraham Hamadehs challenge of election results in his race against Democrat Kris Mayes for Arizona attorney general, concluding that Hamadeh didnt prove the errors in vote counting that he had alleged.
The ruling on Friday by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Lee Jantzen came after Hamadehs attorney, Tim La Sota, acknowledged his client hadnt gained enough votes during his litigation to change the outcome of the race. Mayes finished 511 votes ahead of Hamadeh out of 2.5 million in one of the closest elections in state history.
You havent met the burden, Jantzen told La Sota shortly before ruling against Hamadeh.
As part of the litigation, the parties in the case were allowed to inspect a sample of 2,300 ballots. Through the inspection, Hamadeh said he gained a net six votes, while Mayes maintained she netted three votes.
If you extrapolate the numbers, they are not going to get us to 511 votes if you take the sample we have, said La Sota, who had pushed for a larger sample size.
Andrew Gaona, an attorney representing Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, said the lawsuit was a spectacular waste of everyones time.
Under Arizona law, Hamadeh faced the high bar of proving not just that election officials erred but that he would have won without their misconduct.

LAS VEGAS New transcripts of closed-door testimony to the Jan. 6 House committee show Donald Trump and his allies had a direct hand in the Nevada Republican Partys scheme to send a phony electoral certificate to Congress in 2020 in a last-ditch attempt to keep the former president in power.
The documents made public Wednesday evening included interviews with state party leader Michael McDonald and Republican National Committeeman Jim DeGraffenreid in February. Both men served as fake electors in Carson City on Dec. 14, 2020.

Bingham County Gop Chair: Rule Could Cause Voters To Choose Alternative Parties
Dan Cravens, who has been chair of the Bingham County Republican Central Committee since 2013, said he thinks those supporting the rule are those who lost previous primaries, or their preferred candidates lost to other challengers.
The logic here is that we are the true Republicans, we lost in the primary and it must be because theres massive numbers of people who are not Republicans voting in the primary, therefore we need to redefine who can participate in the primary to a much narrower group so that the result they feel is the correct one occurs, Cravens said.

Cravens worries that if the rule is adopted, it will damage the Idaho Republican Party and cause voters to abandon the party, even in a state that is so deeply Republican.
If you start making it hard to vote in our primary, you start making it exclusive, and if theyre successful in narrowing the ideological tone of the candidates to this libertarian philosophy, what will happen is voters will begin to look at alternatives, Cravens said.

Concerned Republicans Should Reach Out To Rules Committee Chair Says
The state central committee will meet from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6 and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Riverside Hotel in Garden City.
Cravens said he hopes people will contact members of the rule committee and their county chairs with their thoughts about the proposal leading up to the meeting.
The more voters that hear about this and express their concern over it, which I feel theres a great deal of folks who would and do, would diminish the chances of it passing, he said.

In Michigan’s attorney general race, Republican Matthew DePerno who espoused debunked conspiracy theories surrounding the 2020 election result in Michigan lost to Democratic incumbent Dana Nessel. DePerno filed a suit alleging sweeping voter fraud in the state, but both a state trial court judge and a state appeals court judge dismissed the suit.
Eric Schmitt Nominee For Us Senator From Missouri
Coming into primary day, Missouri Republican Eric Schmitt had received national attention as an “ERIC” in the race. Former President Trump had endorsed “ERIC” for the Missouri U.S. Senate seat, and Eric Schmitt, one of three “Eric’s” on the campaign trail, embraced Trump’s endorsement and said he was “grateful” for it.
Schmitt has also embraced Trump’s assertion that the 2020 election was stolen, leading a lawsuit with 17 other attorneys general in 2020.
On July 5, Schmitt released a campaign ad on Twitter in which he said that when he was Missouri’s 43rd attorney general, he “stood with President Trump to stop election fraud.”

Blake Masters Nominee For Us Senator From Arizona
Blake Masters, a venture capitalist and former executive at billionaire Peter Thiel’s investment firm, defeated Mark Brnovich, Arizona’s attorney general, and Army veteran Jim Lamon in the race for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. Trump endorsed Masters in June.
In a campaign ad released in November, Masters said, “I think Trump won in 2020,” adding that the “election was really messed up.” It’s a sentiment that’s echoed on Masters’ website. There he wrote that the 2020 election “was a rotten mess” and added “if we had had a free and fair election, President Trump would be sitting in the Oval Office today.”
Like other Republicans who have spread Trump’s claim of a stolen election, Masters has expressed suspicion of the $400 million grant by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to state and local election officials. He also calls for a photo ID requirement, the elimination of drop boxes and “ending indiscriminate mass mailing of ballots.”
In 1991, Arizona passed a law for no-excuse mail ballots. The state allowed for voters to remain on a list to get a mail ballot for every election, and according to Politifact, three of every four Arizona voters were on that permanent list.

Kari Lake Nominee For Arizona Governor
Trump-backed former TV news anchor Kari Lake won a tight race over opponent Karrin Taylor Robson, the lawyer endorsed by former Vice President Mike Pence and the state’s sitting governor, Doug Ducey. It was one of at least three primary showdowns so far this year between the former president’s preferred candidates and those of his vice president.
In a June debate, Lake called the 2020 election “more than unfair” and reiterated the false claim that President Joe Biden “lost the election and shouldn’t be in the White House.” In that same debate, Lake asked her opponents to raise their hand if they thought the election was “stolen.” Robson responded, “I’m not going to play your your stunt.”
Last year, Lake said if she were Arizona’s governor in 2020, she would not have certified Mr. Biden’s win in state. Biden won Arizona , and a controversial audit and hand recount of the ballots in the state’s most populous county actually found Mr. Biden’s lead increased by a couple hundred votes.
Leading up to Tuesday’s primaries, Lake continued to cast doubt on the election process. “We’re already detecting some stealing going on, but you guys know I’m a fighter, right?” she told a conservative group in late July. After her election night remarks late Tuesday night, when ballots were still being counted, Lake repeatedly predicted she’d win as long as “all the legal” ballots were counted.

“The fact that a previously elected president, head of the party with universal name ID is having any trouble solidifying enthusiastic support the GOP faithful is a massive blinking warning sign,” Republican strategist Alex Patton told Newsweek. “No one is just given the nomination. The former President is gonna have to work for it if he wants to win.”
“People who formerly were openly pro-Trump are now hedging their bets,” GOP political consultant Christopher Nicholas said.
A number of eventgoers said that while they’re fans of both Republicans, Trump has become so polarizing that it may be in the party’s best interest to support a candidate who independent voters could get behind.

Races In Arizona And Nevada Are Too Early To Call
Arizona is one of three states where election deniers are the GOP nominees for governor, secretary of state and attorney general. All three races remain too early to call, according to NBC News.
Kari Lake, the nominee for governor, has been in a tight race against Democrat Katie Hobbs, and ran against Democrat Adrian Fontes for secretary of state. For attorney general, Abraham Hamadeh is up against Democrat Kris Mayes. All three have questioned Bidens presidential victory or falsely said the election was stolen from Trump.
Finchem has ties to QAnon and the Oath Keepers, and he attended Trumps Stop the Steal rally before the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
In Nevada, Jim Marchant a Trump-endorsed election denier ran against Democrat Cisco Aguilar for secretary of state. That race is also too early to call, according to NBC News.
Marchant has promised to get rid of all electronic voting machines, voting by mail and early voting. Instead, he has vowed to institute a traceable paper-ballot-only system that would rely only on hand counts. Marchant has also said he wouldnt have certified the 2020 results in the state, which Biden won.
In an interview this year, Marchant said that if he is secretary of state in 2024, he wont rule out advocating for an alternate slate of Trump electors if Trump is on the ballot and loses because of what he determines to be voter irregularities.

What Dont We Know
