Patriots Vs Giants Prediction For Preseason Week 3

New England Patriots vs. New York Giants | Preseason Week 3 2021 NFL Game Highlights

The Patriots have utterly dominated the preseason and the Giants dont seem motivated to play their starters, including quarterback Daniel Jones. Additionally, this could be Newtons and Jones last chance to stake their claims for the starting job, so logic says to back the team with players who have something to play for.

New England Patriots Vs New York Giants Prediction & Preview

Week 3 of the NFL preseason gives fans a Super Bowl rematch when the New England Patriots travel to the Meadowlands to face the New York Giants.

The teams have played against each other in two Super Bowls this century, but Tom Brady and Eli Manning are long gone. New England enter the clash undefeated, while the Giants have lost both their two preseason games in 2021.

On that note, here’s a closer look at how the teams could line up for Sunday afternoon’s game in New Jersey.

Daniel Jones Performance Was Overshadowed By His End Zone Interception

For the most part, Daniel Jones played well completing 17 out of 22 passes for 135 yards and threw a touchdown to Kaden Smith at the end of the first half.

But he did throw a crucial interception in the end zone in the second quarter. These are the kind of mistakes that Jones should not be making in his third season. Ball security continues to be Joness biggest issue, and its something he must improve on when the regular season begins.

The Patriots home opener was a rematch from the 2006 divisional playoffs, against the Chargers on Sunday Night Football. For the second consecutive week, the game began with a touchdown on the Patriots first series: this time, Brady hit Watson for a 7-yard touchdown pass to give the Patriots a 70 lead. On the first play of the ensuing Chargers possession, their first, linebacker Rosevelt Colvin intercepted a Philip Rivers pass, but it did not translate into points for the Patriots as Gostkowski then missed a 41-yard field goal attempt on the Patriots resulting series. After a Chargers three-and-out, the Patriots capped off a 10-play, 75-yard drive with a 23-yard Moss touchdown reception, putting the Patriots ahead 140. Colvin then added a sack and forced fumble to his game statistics, as he strip-sacked Rivers after the Chargers reached the Patriots 34-yard line and defensive lineman Vince Wilfork recovered the fumble for the Patriots second forced turnover of the game.

Loser: Wr Gunner Olszewski

The third-year wideout was unable to make any plays offensively in this game despite having the ball thrown in his direction.

Olszewskis biggest problem may be the roster cutdowns coming this upcoming week. While he was an All-Pro punt returner last season, the Patriots are always looking to find guys who can do multiple things to help the team win.

Taylor received some punts in this game and looked serviceable doing so. If Belichick believes that they need to save a spot, they may move on from the kid from Bemidji State.

Patriots Vs Giants Prediction

The New York Giants have yet to win a game this NFL preseason, and face a tough test against the Patriots’ on Sunday afternoon at the MetLife Stadium.

With Cam Newton and Mac Jones still trying to win the starting quarterback job, New England should have enough offensive firepower to remain undefeated in the NFL 2021 preseason.

New England to win an entertaining game 24-17.

Cam Is Looking Like Qb1

Though Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would be non-committal on the subject after the game, the teams actions certainly seem to point toward Newton taking the first snap under center against Miami on September 12. Though he saw limited action on Sunday, Newton started his third straight preseason game of 2021. In his two drives, Newton completed 2-of-5 passes for 10 yards with an interception. However, his statistics would not tell the entire story. In fact, the pass on which Newton was picked was arguably his best throw of the night. The Pats incumbent quarterback threw a back-shoulder dart, intended for receiver Jakobi Meyers. Unfortunately, Giants linebacker Blake Martinez made a great play on the ball, ripping it directly from Meyers hands.

New England Patriots Preview

This is the final game for Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to assess quarterbacks Cam Newton and Mac Jones.

Both QBs have impressed during the preseason, and should get one more chance to prove they deserve the starting role in 2021. Belichick has not announced who will start the matchup, and it’s not guaranteed the veteran Newton will play at all.

Despite 3 interceptions from Tom Brady, the Patriots still managed to defeat San Diego, holding them to four field goals while Laurence Maroney rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown for the second game in a row. With this win, the Patriots became the first NFL team to start with an 180 record and advanced to their fourth Super Bowl appearance in seven years.

With just over 5 minutes left in the first quarter, Chargers defensive back Quentin Jammer intercepted a pass from Brady on the Patriots 40-yard line, setting up a 26-yard field goal by Nate Kaeding. New England responded by driving 65 yards and scoring with a 1-yard Maroney touchdown run to take a 73 lead.

Kaeding kicked a 23-yard field goal in the second quarter to cut the score to 76, but after a punt, Patriots defensive back Asante Samuel intercepted a pass from Philip Rivers and returned it 10 yards to the Chargers 24-yard line. One play later, Brady’s 12-yard touchdown pass to Jabar Gaffney increased their lead to 146. Later on, a 26-yard run by Darren Sproles moved the ball to the New England 34-yard line. But once again, the Patriots defense kept San Diego out of the end zone, stopping them on 3rd and 1 and forcing them to settle for another Kaeding field goal, making the score 149 at halftime.

We’re On To The Regular Season

With the win, the Patriots wrap up an undefeated 2021 preseason and shift their sights to the opener on September 12 at 4:25 pm against the Dolphins. It was a productive summer, highlighted by a fresh injection of youth and talent that have dramatically changed the team’s dynamic from 2020. How it will all come together remains anyone’s guess, football seasons have a way of bringing out an often unexpected truth, but the starting point shows a lot of options across all three phases of the game. If the new and old merge and play complementary football, there should be plenty to be excited about.

It’s good news that the team appears to have avoided any major, season-altering injuries this summer, but the biggest question to hang over them remains Stephon Gilmore’s status. By all accounts, Gilmore has been around the team, helping with preseason preparations as he rehabs, but it’s clear how much the team needs the talented cornerback on the field and how much he changes the dynamic in the secondary.

With the first three-game preseason done, including two valuable sets of joint practices, the 2021 Patriots are far more prepared than they were last summer. Now, things get real.

Preseason week 4 Patriots vs Giants recap and final score: Danny Etling ...

While just months removed from being named an All-Pro punt returner for the Pats in 2020, Gunner Olszewski has had his share of struggles at the receiver position throughout the preseason. On Sunday, Olszewski had a notable drop of a Mac Jones pass, and struggled to find synergy with the quarterback during the end of the first half. While his roster spot does not appear to be in jeopardy, the 24-year-old will need to improve his ball security skills to remain a key part of the Patriots offense.

Mac Jones takes a coverage sack with no one open down the field which leads to a punt. Jones day might be over, and we could see Brian Hoyer in the fourth quarter unless the Patriots get another position.

Jones takes some criticism for perhaps holding on to the ball for too long. There is some validity in this statement:

Jones gets sacked twice on that drive. You’d like to see the rookie get rid of the ball quicker there.

Mark Daniels

Mac Jones takes a bad sack as he missed a wide-open Isaiah Zuber to his left, which sets up a tough third down, and a penalty will make the conversion even tougher.

Patriots cornerback Dee Virgin has not looked good. Hes been beat on double moves by the Giants second and third-string receivers, and has also gotten lucky with New York wide outs dropping passes.

Patriots defense holds the Giants to a field-goal attempt, but Graham Gano cannot convert and New England stays in control with the score at 19-7.

Rhamondre Stevenson is a MONSTER. He powers his way through several defenders for a 9-yard, GROWN-MAN TD.

Rhamondre Stevenson will not be denied. Hes now got 5 rushing touchdowns this preseason.

New England Patriots: 4 Bold Predictions For Preseason Week 3 Vs Giants

The New England Patriots have enjoyed a rather solid preseason. They hope to return to the NFL playoffs in 2021. However, Bill Belichick still has a quarterback battle to figure out with Mac Jones and Cam Newton fighting for that top spot.

The Patriots are fresh off a demolition of the Philadelphia Eagles in their second game, winning that one 35-0. Of course, this is the most important one as both quarterbacks look to continue to prove their case to be named the teams starter.

The Patriots also traded running back Sony Michel to the Los Angeles Rams due to their crowded running back room, so its been a busy week. Lets put forth four bold predictions as the Patriots conclude their preseason slate against the New York Giants.

On the Patriots first drive of the second half, on 1st and 10 from their own 44-yard line, after a Brady lateral pass to Moss fell short, Moss picked it up and threw it back to Brady, who then found Gaffney deep for a 56-yard touchdown. After another Steelers three-and-out, the Patriots second possession of the half also went for a touchdown, as a 2-yard Welker reception capped a 10-play drive that included one run, a 4-yard Brady scramble. In the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, the Steelers moved the ball to the Patriots 1-yard line, but failed to score on 3rd and goal and 4th and goal. The Patriots took the ball at their own 1-yard line and then began a 6-minute, 12 play drive, passing on every down. Using a no-huddle offense, Welker caught five straight passes to bring the Patriots to the Steelers 36-yard line. Brady completed four more passes to set up first-and-goal from the Steelers 10-yard line, but his next three passes were all incomplete, leading to a 28-yard Gostkowski field goal. After a Patriots punt, the Steelers ran the ball three times to give the Patriots their 13th win of the season with the win, the Patriots improved to 130 and also clinched a first-round playoff bye.

For their third night game in as many weeks, the Patriots flew to M& T Bank Stadium to face the 47 Ravens. On the first drive of the game, a 42-yard Stallworth reception and three Ravens penalties helped set up a 1st and goal from the Ravens 3-yard line. The Patriots next four plays gained a net of zero yards, and Gostkowksi kicked a 21-yard field goal to give the Patriots a 30 lead. After an exchange of punts, the Ravens took the lead with Kyle Boller completing a 4-yard touchdown pass to Derrick Mason after a 70-yard drive. In the second quarter, Baltimore increased its lead when kicker Matt Stover converted a 29-yard field goal to cap a 12-play, 55-yard drive. On the ensuing drive, the Patriots responded with a 9-play, 60-yard drive that included two more Stallworth receptions and two more Ravens penalties and ended in a 1-yard Evans touchdown run. Two possessions later, with 56 seconds remaining the first half, Brady threw his fifth interception of the season, this one to safety Ed Reed, who proceeded to fumble on the return. Watson recovered the fumble and the Patriots went into halftime in a 1010 tie.

The Patriots became the sixth team in NFL history to begin a season 120.

Daniel Jones Vs Patriots Defense

The Giants are treating Jones like a veteran, holding him out of preseason action. Its a bold move, considering some of the issues we saw last season, but this coaching staff is clearly confident in the third-year quarterback. Fortunately, well get to see Jones take the field in Sundays Patriots vs Giants clash.

Discover where the Patriots and Giants land in our NFL defense rankings

  • Find Consistency: If fans were hoping Jones would dominate training camp, that hasnt been the case. There have been phenomenal days and stretches where he just misses throws. This is his lone opportunity to display some of his growth and it will be a challenge against a loaded Patriots defense.
  • Patriots Pressure: New England wont need to show off its unique defensive looks or show its hand on unique blitz packages. The Patriots added a lot of depth to the front seven this offseason, which will make it a lot easier to pressure the quarterback. Keep that in mind against the passer who ranked 17th in quarterback rating and completion rate last season.
