Hoyer Says House Will Send Article Of Impeachment To Senate Immediately

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., told NBC News that he would send over the article of impeachment to the Senate immediately once it is passed.
He did not specify if immediately meant later Wednesday or another day. The House is set to vote on the article later Wednesday and it is expected to pass with support from both Democrats and a handful of Republicans.
There had been some debate among Democratic leadership, led by Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, who suggested that they could wait until after Biden’s first 100 days in office. Hoyer said that is no longer being discussed.

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washingtons 3rd Congressional District criticized both the presidents rhetoric, which she said incited the mob that attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6, as well as his actions during the violence.
Hours went by before the president did anything meaningful to stop the attack. Instead, he and his lawyer were busy making calls to senators who were still in lockdown, seeking their support to further delay the Electoral College certification, she claimed.
Herrera Beutler also cited Trumps speech in response to the attack, during which he told his supporters you are very special and we love you, while also asking them for peace.
Houston Officer Relieved Of Duty After Taking Part It In Riot
A member of the Houston Police Department traveled was in the Capitol during the violent riot, according to Chief Art Acevedo.
The HPD says the officer has been relieved of duty and has been given a 48-hour notice of a disciplinary hearing.
Acevedo said, I can tell you there is a high probability this individual will be charged with federal charges, and rightfully so.
So far we believe the individual traveled alone, Acevedo said and identifies him as an 18 year veteran of the HPD with no history of disciplinary issues with the department.

Republicans Voted To Impeach Trump Will Any Be Left In Congress After November
Theres no doubt former President Donald Trump remains the most potent force in the Republican Party, both from a fundraising perspective and as an influencer for GOP voters. He has successfully lined up opposition to Republican politicians who either voted to impeach him or opposed him publicly in some way.
The next test of this will be in Wyoming, where political analysts expect Rep. Liz Cheney to lose her primary against a Trump-backed opponent on Aug. 16. President Donald Trump is set to be impeached, again, on Wednesday, but this time, he will lack the megaphone of Twitter to respond and be without a robust and aggressive defense from his White House and allies.
Stripped of the ability to fire off real-time responses, Trump must rely on a White House staff that has largely been replaced with moving boxes as aides head for the exits and allies fail to offer a defense of him in public.
But the silence from the president shouldn’t be interpreted as submission, those close to him say. Instead, Trump continues to cling to his false assertion that he won the election and is refusing pleas that he leave office days before his term expires because of his role in the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol.

US President Donald Trump became the first president to be impeached twice. The US House of Representatives charged him with incitement of insurrection over the attack on the US Capitol last week. The House voted 232-197 to impeach Trump.
This came after Republicans spent the last four years defending Trumps actions. When impeachment proceedings were carried out against Trump in 2019, only Mitt Romney had voted against Trump, but the siege earlier this month became the last straw.

US Congresswoman Liz Cheney was the most senior member of her party to vote against Trump. USA Today quoted her as saying, There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution I will vote to impeach the President.
This insurrection caused injury, death and destruction in the most sacred space in our republic, Cheney said according to AFP.

A Republican senator from Rocky River, Gonzalez was one of the 10 Republicans who voted against Trump. He said in a statement on social media, When I consider the full scope of events leading up to January 6th including the Presidents lack of response as the United States Capitol was under attack, I am compelled to support impeachment.

What Happened To The 10 House Republicans Who Voted To Impeach Trump
Following the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, 10 House Republicans broke ranks and joined Democrats in voting to impeach then-President Donald Trump.
At least eight of those members wont get reelected.
- 4: Republicans who opted not to seek reelection
- 4: Republicans who lost renomination
- 2: Republicans who won renomination and will be up for reelection in the fall
Only two of the members, Reps. Dan Newhouse of Washington and David Valado of California, won their respective midterm primaries this year.
On Tuesday, Rep. Liz Cheney, the most prominent of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump, soundly lost renomination in the Wyoming House race. Prior to her vote, she was the third-most powerful member of the GOP caucus.
Now, she is the vice-chair of the Democrat-led Jan. 6 Committee. Her term expires at the start of 2023.
Cheney and others recognized the political risk involved with opposing Trump.
Two years ago, I won this primary with 73% of the vote. I could easily have done the same again, Cheney said after conceding Tuesday night. The path was clear, but it would have required that I go along with President Trump’s lie about the 2020 election.
She is not alone in not making it to the general election. Reps. Pete Meijer, Tom Rice and Jaime Herrera Beutler all lost renomination bids.
Reps. Adam Kinzinger, Fred Upton, John Katko and Anthony Gonzalez opted not to seek reelection knowing they would likely face tough renomination battles.

Jim Jordan Says He Wants Vote To Expel Liz Cheney From Gop House Leadership
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, one of President Trumps fiercest defenders, suggested Wednesday he was open to trying to expel Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., from GOP House leadership over her support for impeachment.
“The conference ought to vote on that, Jordan told reporters Wednesday.
Cheney, who as the House Republican Conference Chair is the No. 3 Republican in the House, said Tuesday that she supported Trumps impeachment or removal from office, saying that when it came to his incitement of the mob that violently stormed the Capitol, “there has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.”
‘we Told You So’ Democratic Rep Richmond Says
In what is likely his final floor speech as a congressman, Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., urged his colleagues to impeach Trump.
Stand up, man up, woman up, and defend this Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic, including Donald J. Trump, Richmond said, criticizing Republicans who said Congress should unify the country and not impeach the president.
In the first impeachment, Republicans said we didnt need to impeach him because he learned his lesson,” he said as he was reminded he was out of time. “Well, we said, if we didnt remove him, he would do it again. Simply put, we told you so. Richmond out.
Richmond, who has served in Democratic leadership as assistant majority whip, is retiring from Congress to join President-elect Joe Bidens administration as a senior adviser.

Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming, one of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach President Donald J. Trump over the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, lost the Republican primary on Tuesday and will not be on the ballot in November. Mr. Trump made it his vengeful mission to force the 10 Republicans who defied him out of Congress, and he has largely been successful: Eight of them, including Ms. Cheney, have either been defeated in primary races or chose not to run again at all.
Here are the details about how each of those lawmakers has fared.
When it came time to vote on impeachment, Ms. Cheney explained her decision by saying Mr. Trumps role in the insurrection caused death and destruction in the most sacred space in our Republic. She forcefully leaned into that position for the next 18 months.
Mr. Trump endorsed Joe Kent, an Army Special Forces veteran, in the primary against Ms. Herrera Beutler, and she conceded defeat.
Mr. Meijer was narrowly ousted in a Republican primary this month by John Gibbs, a former Trump administration official whom the former president endorsed.
Mr. Rice campaigned twice for Mr. Trump. He voted twice for Mr. Trump. When he decided that the Capitol riot was inexcusable, his opponent was endorsed by Mr. Trump. That challenger, Russell Fry, a state lawmaker, defeated him.

WASHINGTON – The decision of 10 members of the House of Representatives to vote to impeach former President Donald Trump has cost some of them their seats, including the most vocal critic, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., who lost the state’s primary Tuesday to Trump-backed candidate Harriet Hageman.
Trump has spent most of his post-presidency backing candidates who are running against the lawmakers he considers disloyal to him.

Rep. Liz Cheneys primary loss on Tuesday caps off a tumultuous year for the small band of House Republicans who broke from their party to impeach Donald Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection and almost all of them will be gone when the next Congress begins in January.
The 10 Republicans faced the wrath of GOP voters back home and Trumps scorched-earth revenge tour, in which he endorsed Republican challengers loyal to him in nearly every district.
The final scorecard after Cheneys race: Four of the Republican impeachment voters retired instead of running for reelection. Another four lost in primaries to Trump-backed opponents. And just two advanced to the general election, though one of them faces a tough race against a Democratic opponent.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., says she feared for her life as a violent mob stormed the Capitol building last week.

Capitol Police Official Tells Congress He Saw No Fbi Intelligence Before Jan 6 Siege

The acting assistant chief of the Capitol Police told Congress Tuesday that he was not aware of any intelligence from the FBI in advance of Jan. 6, raising questions about an assertion by a top FBI official that threat information was shared with local police in advance of the Capitol riot.
Steven DAntuono, the head of the FBIs Washington DC field office, said Tuesday that the FBI had shared some information about threats of violence with local police before the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol, including a report by the FBIs Norfolk field office that extremists were threatening a war.
The report mentioned people sharing a map of tunnels at the Capitol complex and coordinating travel to Washington, according to The Washington Post, which first reported on the F.B.I. document.
But a readout of a closed-door briefing of Republican House members Tuesday, obtained by NBC News, quotes acting U.S. Capitol Police Assistant Chief Sean Gallagher as saying he never saw any such information.

How House Republicans Who Voted To Impeach Trump Fared In Tuesday Primaries
Donald Trump has claimed another scalp in his revenge plot towards House Republicans who voted to impeach him over the January 6 attack in Tuesday’s primaries, but two more could advance to November’s midterms.
Rep. Peter Meijer, one of 10 GOP congressmen who voted to impeach the former president last January, lost the primary in Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District to the Trump-endorsed and 2020-election denier John Gibbs.
Meijer conceded the neck and neck race at around 1:30 a.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday. With 55 percent of the votes reported, Gibbs leads Meijer by 51.8 percentage points to 48.2.
Meijer is the second House Republican who voted to impeach Trump to have gone on to lose their primary. In June, Rep. Tom Rice suffered a rare incumbent defeat after losing to state Representative Russell Fry in South Carolina’s 7th District.
Four others will be leaving office at the end of their current term, with Wyoming rep. Liz Cheney, vice chair of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack, facing a battle to keep her seat as she faces the Trump-endorsed candidate Harriet Hageman in the August 16 GOP primary. California’s David Valadao advanced from his primary on June 7.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared it a “fantastic night in Michigan” in which Tudor Dixon, whom he had endorsed, also won the race to be the GOP’s nomination for governor in the state.

Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., said Wednesday that she has no plans to heed calls for her to step down as the third-ranking Republican in the House after backing Trump’s impeachment.
“I’m not going anywhere. This is a vote of conscience,” Cheney told a member of the press pool on Capitol Hill. “It’s one where there are different views in our conference. But our nation is facing an unprecedented, since the Civil War, constitutional crisis. That’s what we need to be focused on. That’s where our efforts and attention need to be.”

Not long after security forces cleared the last of the pro-Trump mob from the Capitol, a police officer stationed nearby spotted a suspicious male in a white passenger van with red spray paint on the side. The Ford Econoline 150 had Georgia plates and a red MAGA hat on the dashboard.
Im one of these, the man said to the officer as he pointed to the hat, according to a police report.
The man, Grant Moore of Buford, Ga., went on to say that he was supporting the Chinese who were currently protesting around the city, the report says. Whatever that meant, Moore, 65, was soon placed under arrest on weapons charges.
Inside his vehicle was a book bag containing a semi-automatic handgun with a fully-loaded 6-round magazine, the police report says. The officer also found three other magazines inside the bag and 12 loose rounds in one of the vans front compartments.
The guns and ammunition were among an unusual collection of weapons the police seized from protesters who flooded into D.C. to support President Trumps effort to overturn the 2020 election.
