Super Pac Ad Leaves Out Context About Mccrory And Drivers Licenses

An ad from a Super PAC called Conservative Outsider PAC depicts McCrory as soft on illegal immigration, calling McCrory just too liberal. One of the ads claims is that McCrorys administration even gave drivers licenses to illegals.

Facts First: This claim about McCrory and drivers licenses omits important context. McCrorys gubernatorial administration only gave drivers licenses to a certain group of undocumented immigrants Dreamers who were enrolled in the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and only did so after the office of the states Democratic attorney general Roy Cooper, who is now the governor, issued an opinion saying that state law requires the state to grant licenses to DACA enrollees. McCrorys administration did not give drivers licenses to the broader group of undocumented immigrants in North Carolina.

The Dreamers are people who came to the US illegally as children. DACA, a program for Dreamers who meet specific criteria, does not grant enrollees official legal status in the US, but it does temporarily shield them from deportation and authorize them to work.

CNN was unable to reach Conservative Outsider PAC for comment on Monday.

United States House Of Representatives

Elections

Scott entered the election for lieutenant governor but switched to run for South Carolina’s 1st congressional district after Republican incumbent Henry Brown announced his retirement. The 1st district is based in Charleston, and includes approximately the northern 3/4 of the state’s coastline .

Scott finished first in the nine-candidate June 8 Republican primary, receiving a plurality of 32% of the vote. Fellow Charleston County Councilman Paul Thurmond was second with 16%. Carroll A. Campbell III, the son of former GovernorCarroll A. Campbell Jr., was third with 14%. Charleston County School Board member Larry Kobrovsky ranked fourth with 11%. Five other candidates had single-digit percentages.

A runoff was held on June 22 between Scott and Thurmond. Scott was endorsed by the Club for Growth, various Tea Party movement groups, former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, Republican House WhipEric Cantor, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, and South Carolina ssenator and Minuteman Project founder Jim DeMint. He defeated Thurmond 68%32% and won every county in the district.

2012

Scott was unopposed in the primary and won the general election against Democratic nominee Bobbie Rose, 62%36%.

Tenure

Scott declined to join the Congressional Black Caucus.

Us House Of Representatives

In 1992, Burr ran against incumbent Representative Stephen L. Neal for the seat in the Winston-Salem-based 5th District and lost. He ran again in 1994 after Neal chose not to seek reelection, and was elected in a landslide year for Republicans.

In the House, Burr authored the FDA Modernization Act of 1997. He also helped create the National Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering. In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, he successfully sponsored amendments to improve defenses against bioterrorism.

As a representative, Burr co-sponsored, with Senator Kit Bond, an amendment to the Energy Policy Act of 2003 relaxing restrictions on the export of specific types of enriched uranium that were first enacted in the Schumer Amendment to the Energy Policy Act of 1992. The original Schumer amendment placed increased controls on U.S. civilian exports of weapons-grade highly enriched uranium to encourage foreign users to switch to reactor-grade low-enriched uranium for isotope production. HEU is attractive to terrorists because it can be used to create a simple nuclear weapon, while LEU cannot be used directly to make nuclear weapons. Burr’s amendment allowed exports of HEU to five countries for creating medical isotopes.

Burr was reelected four times with no substantial opposition. He never received less than 62% of the vote, and ran unopposed in 2002.

South Carolina House Of Representatives

Elections

In 2008, incumbent Republican State Representative Tom Dantzler decided to retire. With support from advisors such as Nicolas Muzin, Scott ran for his seat in District 117 of the South Carolina House of Representatives and won the Republican primary with 53% of the vote, defeating Bill Crosby and Wheeler Tillman. He won the general election unopposed, becoming the first Republican African American State Representative in South Carolina in more than 100 years.

Tenure

Scott supported South Carolina’s right-to-work laws and argued that Boeing chose South Carolina as a site for manufacturing for that reason.

In South Carolina Club for Growth‘s 200910 scorecard, Scott earned a B and a score of 80 out of 100. The South Carolina Association of Taxpayers praised his “diligent, principled and courageous stands against higher taxes.”

Early Life Education And Business Career

Burr was born on November 30, 1955, in Charlottesville, Virginia, the son of Martha and Rev. David Horace White Burr. He graduated from Richard J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1974 and earned a B.A. in communications from Wake Forest University in 1978. In college, Burr played defensive back for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons football team. He is a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Before running for Congress, Burr worked for 17 years as a sales manager for Carswell Distributing Company, a distributor of lawn equipment. He is a member of the board of Brenner Children’s Hospital and the West Point Board of Visitors.

United States Senate Election In North Carolina 2022

Voters in North Carolinawill elect one member to the U.S. Senate in the general election on November 8, 2022. The primary was scheduled for May 17, 2022. A primary runoff is scheduled to be held on July 5, 2022. The filing deadline was March 4, 2022.

The election will fill the Class III Senate seat held by Richard Burr , who first took office in 2005.

Incumbent Sen. Richard Burr is not seeking re-election, making this an open seat race. In 2020, incumbent Sen. Thom Tillis defeated Cal Cunningham by 1.8 percentage points. In 2016, Burr won re-election by 5.7 percentage points.

The two most recent presidential elections in North Carolina were both decided by less than 4 percentage points. In the 2020 election, incumbent President Donald Trump defeated Joe Biden by 1.3 percentage points in North Carolina. In 2016, Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in North Carolina by a margin of 3.6 percentage points.

Trump Endorses Ted Budd In North Carolina Senate Gop Primary

Greenville, North Carolina Former President Donald Trump on Saturday endorsed Rep. Ted Budd’s campaign for Senate in North Carolina, making the surprise announcement just minutes after his daughter-in-law Lara Trump confirmed she would not be entering the Republican primary for the open seat in 2022.

The National Rifle Associations position on gun laws has become more conservative due to pressure from grassroots gun rights organizations, Republican former North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory said Sunday.

Asked by host Chuck Todd of NBCs Meet the Press to respond to a 1999 clip of NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre arguing in favor of mandatory background checks for purchases at gun shows, McCrory argued that the NRA was a more moderate organization under pressure to go further to the right of its executives positions.

Theyre being pushed, politically, more to the right on this political issue, as President Trump was during his term, where he was going to institute some policies. And then, he was pushed to reverse that decision, McCrory said.

The NRAs national convention began in Houston only days after a mass shooting at a Texas school, creating an uncomfortable juxtaposition that led some speakers to withdraw. Others, including former President Donald Trump, went ahead with their plans to speak.

McCrory blamed institutional breakdown from the federal to local level for not preventing horrific events such as the Tuesday shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, and said gun violence was a cultural problem.

North Carolina Senate Republicans To Push For Medicaid Expansion

After years of refusingto expand Medicaid in North Carolina, state Senate Republicans are expected to propose a measure to do so as early as this week, Axios has learned.

The legislation would also include a handful of measures that broaden health care access in North Carolina, numerous sources with knowledge of the bill said.

Why it matters: The proposal would expand health care coverage to hundreds of thousands of the state’s poorest residents.

• Plus: Proposing such legislation would be a remarkable pivot, as North Carolina’s most powerful Republican, Senate leader Phil Berger, has long opposed expanding Medicaid.
• Berger shifted his stance last year, when he signaled he was open to negotiating Medicaid expansion with Gov. Roy Cooper as part of the state’s budget package. But he still maintained it was a bad policy.
• Senate Republicans’ proposal is also surprising given that House Republicans who proposed legislation expanding Medicaid in 2019 said last year they don’t believe they have the votes to pass it.

Details: The federal poverty level is $23,030 for a family of three. People who make less than 40% of that, about $10,000 a year, are eligible for Medicaid in North Carolina. The Affordable Care Act allows states to expand that to 138% of the FPL.
