Mossberg Patriot Revere

Available in Walnut or Synthetic, the classic styled Patriot looks right on the gun rack and feels great when shouldered.

The Patriots button-rifled fluted barrels are free-floated and have a recessed crown for maximum accuracy. At 22 in length, the barrels are long enough to achieve full-velocity from every caliber, yet short enough for quick handling in the densest woods. The Patriots attractive spiral fluted bolts feature an ergonomic bolt angle and knurled bolt handle offering plenty of grip providing for quick follow-up shots and enhanced shooter comfort. Its box-magazine-fed action makes loading and unloading a snap.

The classically styled Mossberg Patriot bolt-action rifle lineup impressively spans dozens of models that vary in caliber, barrel length, stock type, scope and more providing an affordable, accurate choice for practically anyone.

The calibers can be grouped into 3+1, 4+1 and 5+1 capacity guns.

In 3+1, examples are .300 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, .338 Win Mag. The 4+1 list includes .350 Legend. Finally, in 5+1, examples are .243 Win, .308 Win, .270 Win, .30-06 SPRG, 6.5 Creedmore, 22-250 Rem, 7mm-08 Rem and .25-06 Rem.

Most models have 22 long barrels, but others are up to 24 or down to 20 for youth models or even 16.25 for at least a couple of .450 Bushmasters. Regardless of model, Patriots feature free-floating fluted and button-rifled barrels capped with recessed crowns. And, by the way, these barrels are either matte blued or finished in Marinecote.

The bolts are a beautiful spiral-fluted work of art with grippy knurled bolt conical bolt handles.

The guns come with box magazines, which makes reloading super easy.

The Mossberg LBA trigger is user-adjustable via a flat-head screw above the trigger for an expansive 2 to 7 pounds of pull!

The Mossberg Patriot Vortex models have a high-end Vortex Crossfire II 3-9×40 scope or, as in the case of the Mossberg Patriot Night Train lineup, a more consequential 6-24x50mm scope and for three of the four models, a threaded barrel with a SilencerCo Saker Trifecta three-chamber muzzle brake.

Performance When It Counts

All things considered, the Revere is a great-looking rifle that you can buy at a great price. But would its beauty prove to be more than skin-deep? To find out, I mounted atop the rifle an old favorite, a Weaver Super Slam 2-10x42mm rifle scope, which Ive long favored for testing rifles with great confidence that the scope will hold up to sustained shooting sessions.

Since the rifle is purely designed for hunters, I tested it with five different 6.5 Creedmoor factory hunting loads, measuring velocities over a Competitive Edge Dynamics M2 chronograph. Velocities were quite close to factory advertised velocities with one exception: The Federal Big Game Trophy Copper 120-grain load stepped out 103 fps faster than the factory number. This was the only load tested with an all-copper bullet, and the Revere didnt seem overly fond of it, turning in average five-shot groups of 1.70 inch.

The rifle did better with the other four tested loads, producing average groups of under an inch and a half, with best groups running just slightly over an inch. The best performance was with the hottest round tested, Hornadys Superformance load with a 129-grain SST bullet, which clocked in at 2,953 fps. Average groups with this load were 1.23 inch, with a best group of 1.13 inch. Two other tested loads matched that best-group size exactly.

With a competent shooter behind the trigger, the Patriot Revere will perform when it counts, and look great doing so.

A 270 Winchester With An Updated Stock

feature By: John Haviland | March, 18

Not too long ago the clerk at the checkout counter asked if I needed help carrying out my groceries. That question left me somewhat chagrined was my appearance so decrepit? Later I took it as a compliment, however, because it meant I had been around long enough to witness bolt-action hunting rifles evolve into a combination of ease of use and attractive looks, heading away from stocks ornamented with humps and pinched edges that hindered shooting and appearance. For many admirers of bolt-action hunting rifles, that means deep-blued steel in a stock of pleasingly figured walnut with graceful lines and restrained decoration.

Mossberg is taking hunters back to that time and look with its Patriot Revere, an affordable bolt-action hunting rifle with a nicely figured walnut stock reminiscent of those on old Model 70 Winchesters.

Over the years Mossberg has built serviceable and sturdy firearms. However, Mossberg rifles have never featured what could be called classic stocks. Mossberg has gone elegant with the Revere, using a stock made of what it calls 2.0 Grade European walnut sealed with an oil finish. The stock has a trace of decoration with a rosewood forend tip and grip cap connected with pale maple spacers. The bordered, point-pattern checkering panel wraps completely around the forearm and fully on both sides of the grip. Under a magnifying glass, the diamonds are not as sharp as they could be.

Chambered In 65 Creedmoor Mossbergs Patriot Revere Rifle Combines Old

Hunting With The Mossberg Patriot Revere Rifle In South Africa

What makes the Mossbert Patriot Revere Stand Out Among Bolt-Actions:

  • European walnut stock.
  • Rosewood grip cap and forend tip.
  • Flutted bolt.
  • Lightning Bolt-Action trigger.
  • MSRP of $823

Theres something special about hunting rifles made of polished, blued steel and high-grade walnut stocks executed in the classic fashion. That combination goes together like a warm campfire and a fine, single-malt whisky, and its increasingly difficult to find in factory production rifles.

In a market dominated by ubiquitous black synthetic stocks and a rush to embrace all things tacticool, such rifles evoke a more genteel time when custom stock makers were much in demand and their products were viewed not just as functional tools, but as works of art.

Today, regrettably, such rifles often come with hefty price tags. Mossberg has challenged that status quo with the Patriot Revere, one of the newest and nicest versions of the companys affordable Patriot line of rifles. The Revere has been around for a couple of years now, but it was newly chambered for the 6.5 Creedmoor for 2018, creating what may be a nearly perfect blend of old and new. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about the eye-catching Revere is the fact that Mossberg brought it to market at a price thats well below the cost of most similarly appointed guns and below the price of wood-stocked flagship models from the likes of Remington, Ruger and Winchester.
