Republicans Who Voted For Impeachment Face Trump
Voters on Tuesday will decide the political fates of three House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump last year for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
Reps. Peter Meijer, R-Mich., Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wash., and Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., are all competing against Trump-backed primary challengers as the contests mark the latest test of the former president’s influence in GOP elections.
After Tuesday, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., will be the last House Republican who supported impeachment still facing a primary. Cheney, vice chair of the committee investigating the deadly riot and Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, has encountered particularly stiff headwinds back home in Wyoming. That primary is on Aug. 16.

The colloquially-named Electoral College arises from Article II, Section 1, Clauses 2 and 3, which state that:
“Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress but no Senator or Representative, or person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States shall be appointed an Elector.
The Congress may determine the Time of chusing the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes which Day shall be the same throughout the United States.”
The most glaring early bugs in the systemthe real possibility of ties, the fact that the president and vice-president could represent different political parties as had happened when Adams and Jefferson served together in 1796were ironed out by the Twelfth Amendment in 1804. But our unique Electoral College system has continued to shape the countrys politics in fundamental ways that both supporters and critics would agree depart from democratic norms.
Most Republican States 2022
Across the nation, U.S. citizens have different political beliefs. Some citizens lean more to the right or Republican with conservative values. In contrast, others lean more to the left and support the more liberal Democratic party.
While some states are pretty closely divided, there are others where most residents support one party. One way this is measured is through the Cook Partisan Voting Index, also known as the CPVI. This measures how strongly a state leans Republican or Democratic compared to the entire nation. Following each election, this index is updated to provide the most accurate results.
CPVIs is calculated by taking a look at the average Democratic or Republican share of the last two presidential elections compared to the national average. Results of the CPVI are broken down by congressional district and by state. By using this data, you can quickly determine which states are more Republican or more Democratic.
Based on the latest CPVI data, Wyoming is the most Republican state in the nation. Following behind is Oklahoma, then Utah taking third place.

Utah is the second-most Republican state with a voting index of +20. Utah is known for being home to its highest Mormon population, resulting in many of its residents being very socially conservative. In the 2016 presidential election, 45.5% of voters voted for Trump, while 27.5% voted for Clinton.

What Voters Thought About The Key Issues
Nationally, more than a third of voters said the economy was the most important issue in deciding who to choose as president, with a further 20% naming racial inequality and 17% saying the coronavirus pandemic.
However the issues were split along partisan lines with more than four times as many Trump voters saying the economy was the deciding factor, and Biden voters answering racial inequality and the virus.
Voters were evenly split on how the US economy was faring, with 48% saying it was in “excellent or good” condition and 50% saying it was “not so good or poor”.
Similarly, 50% said that the US was doing “somewhat or very badly” at containing the pandemic and 48% thought the country was doing “somewhat or very well”.
The possibility of voter fraud has been raised repeatedly by the Trump campaign but a large majority of voters told the researchers they were confident that votes in their state would be counted accurately.
What Happens If No Candidate Gets 270 Electoral Votes
If no presidential candidate gets 270 electoral votes, the decision moves to the House of Representatives, which would hold what’s called a contingent election in which each state gets a single vote. This means California and Wyoming get equal power, despite CA having 50 times the population of WY. Each state’s delegation votes in favor of the party that has more House seats in that state. If this were to happen in 2020, the Republican party would get a majority and elect Trump.

Obama Commands The Northeast And West
After edging out Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary and John McCain in the general election, Barack Obama became the first African-American POTUS in US history.
His victory was decisive: He not only took 365 of 538 electoral votes but also won 52.7 percent of the popular vote the largest since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.
In contrast with low voter turnout in previous years, Obama drew a record 69.5 million votes, leading to a 43 percent overall turnout for the general election.
American Turns Blue For Johnson
Following the assassination of President Kennedy, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson took over as president.
In the 1964 election, he rode the wave of Kennedys popularity to earn 61.1 percent of the popular vote the highest since 1820. He handily beat Barry Goldwater in electoral votes, 486 to 52, and carried 44 of 50 states .

Bush Reverts Some Of Middle America Back To Red
In one of the closest presidential races in US history, George W. Bush narrowly edged out incumbent Vice President Al Gore in Electoral College votes, 271 to 266.
For the first time in 112 years, the candidate who won did not earn the popular vote: Gores 48.4 percent was higher than his 47.9 percent.
The closeness of the election resulted in a proposed recount of Florida votes. In a resulting, controversial Supreme Court case , the states votes were awarded to Bush, and he won the election.
Rep Herrera Beutler Who Voted To Impeach Trump Concedes

OLYMPIA, Wash. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, one of two Republican members of Washington states congressional delegation who voted to impeach Donald Trump, has conceded her reelection bid after being overtaken in late vote tallies by a GOP challenger endorsed by the former president.
Trump had targeted the six-term incumbent and endorsed Joe Kent, a former Green Beret, in the 3rd Congressional District contest. The district is in southwest Washington, across the border from Portland, Oregon.
Herrera Beutler, who was first elected to the U.S. House in 2010, led Kent by about 4,700 votes on election night but her lead shrunk throughout last week, and updated returns put Kent ahead and into the No. 2 spot on Monday night.
Once Clark County, the districts largest, and Thurston Counties updated their tallies Tuesday, Kent was leading Herrera Beutler by 928 votes. The Associated Press has said the race for the second candidate to advance in the primary is still too early to call as it estimates about 10,000 votes are left to be counted.
Herrera Beutler conceded in an email shortly after the latest update, saying that since I was first elected to this seat I have done my very best to serve my home region and our country.
Under Washingtons primary system, the top two vote getters in each race Aug. 2 advance to the November election, regardless of party. Washington is a vote by mail state, and voters dont have to declare a party affiliation.

Presidential State Wins By Trifecta Type In 2020 And 2016
Biden won three states Donald Trump won in 2016 that have divided governments. Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania all went to Trump in 2016 and Biden in 2020. All three states have Democratic governors and Republican majorities in both chambers of the state legislature. All three states previously had Republican trifectas Michigan’s and Wisconsin’s were broken in the 2018 elections, while Pennsylvania’s was broken in the 2014 election.
Joe Biden won four states with divided government that Hillary Clinton also won in 2016: Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Vermont. In Minnesota, Democrats control the governorship and a majority in the state House while Republicans have a majority in the state Senate. The other three states have Republican governors and Democratic state legislatures.
Trump won five divided government states that he also won in 2016: Alaska, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, and North Carolina. Except for Alaska, these states all gained divided trifecta status after electing Democratic governors. Louisiana elected a Democratic governor in 2015, followed by North Carolina in 2016, Kansas in 2018, and Kentucky in 2019.

Obama Wins In Slightly Less Commanding Fashion
In a nearly identical result to 2012, Obama won reelection with 332 electoral votes to Mitt Romneys 212.
On the map above, youll see that only two states Indiana and North Carolina differed from 2012s results. Both pivoted from blue to red.
Leading up to election night, most polls placed Hillary Clintons chances of winning ahead of Donald Trumps by 2-to-1 margins. The results told a dramatically different story.
This years map, which is still awaiting a final call in several states, is somewhat similar to the 2008 and 2012 maps, with several key differences. Like Romney, Trump commanded middle America and the South but he also took Florida and a larger portion of Midwest states, including Iowa , and Ohio . Another key difference: Trump took Pennsylvania, and Michigan both states that have been blue since 1988.
Perhaps most astonishingly, Trump is likely to amass fewer total votes than Clinton, making him just the fourth president in US history to win the Electoral College without the popular vote.

Education Level Major Reason For Popular Vote/electoral College Split
The discrepancy between the popular vote and Electoral College was caused mainly by solid swings to Clinton in the two most populous states, California and Texas, but big swings to Trump in the midwest. Clintons gains in California and Texas resulted in zero additional EVs, while Trumps big gains in the midwest hugely benefited him in the Electoral College, as he won five midwestern states that had previously been won by Obama, and thus gained all those states EVs.
Education level was the biggest factor in explaining the swings, with higher educated voters likely to swing to Clinton, and lower educated voters to Trump. The states Trump gained had a greater proportion of non-University educated whites than nationally. US analyst Nate Silver shows that education level, not income, explained the swings. Even in counties with more black or Hispanic voters than whites, the relationship between education level and swing to Trump applied.
In the midwest, the proportion of non-University educated whites is higher than nationally, and there are few Hispanics. Blacks vote heavily for Democrats, but their turnout was down as Obama was not the candidate. Hispanic turnout was higher than in 2012, and this improved Clintons position in Texas, Arizona and California, which also have many university-educated whites. However, none of these states flipped.

New Trifectas After The 2020 Elections
Republicans gained trifectas in Montana and New Hampshire, which both had divided government heading into the election. Biden won New Hampshire, which gained a Republican trifecta when Republicans won majorities in the state legislature. Trump won Montana, which gained a Republican trifecta when Greg Gianforte won the governorship.
Besides New Hampshire, Biden also carried the Republican trifecta states of Arizona and Georgia. Republicans have had a trifecta in Arizona since 2009 and in Georgia since 2005. Both Maine and Nebraska also allocated some of their electoral votes to candidates not matching their trifecta’s party. Trump won Maine’s 2nd Congressional District and Biden won Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.
Robson Says Opponent Kari Lake ‘won’t Concede’
Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Karrin Taylor Robson slammed her opponent Kari Lake over claims of voter fraud in the primary election.
During an interview with ABC News, Robson said Lake was “already claiming fraud.”
“She’s already said she won’t concede,” Robson told ABC News. “She’s already claiming fraud, of course, with no evidence of that. But she knows that this is slipping away from her.”
Robson has been backed by former Vice President Mike Pence. Kari Lake, her opponent and a former TV anchor, has been backed by former President Donald Trump. Lake has supported Trump’s claims that the 2020 presidental election was rigged.
“She’s already seting up a narrative that if I win, it will only because of fraud,” Robson said to ABC News. “And that is wrong. I think that in and of itself should disqualify her from being the governor of this great state. She is already attempting to undermine the vote, before the votes are even counted.”

Joe Biden has been elected president of the United States, after his projected victory in Pennsylvania took him over the winning line.
With all states now projected, President-elect Biden has 306 electoral college votes and Donald Trump has 232. A candidate needs 270 or more to win.
Mr Biden will become the 46th president in January, pending the outcome of any legal challenges.
There is still a recount to come in Georgia, but Mr Biden has a lead of almost 15,000 votes and the 16 electoral college votes are not enough to overturn his overall victory.
Mr Biden’s running mate, Kamala Harris, will make history as the first woman vice-president, as well as the first black and the first Asian American vice-president.

Lastly, Biden won the 2nd congressional district of Nebraska, anchored by Omaha, the state’s largest city. Since the state allocates its electoral votes by Congressional districts, the president-elect earned one electoral vote, while Trump won the remaining four electoral votes.
