Emails Show Trump Pressured Justice Dept Over 2020 Election

The U.S. Presidential Election: Can Donald Trump once again defy the polls? | Four Corners

WASHINGTON During the last weeks of his presidency, Donald Trump and his allies pressured the Justice Department to investigate unsubstantiated claims of widespread 2020 election fraud that even his former attorney general declared without evidence, newly released emails show.

The emails, released Tuesday by the House Oversight Committee, reveal in new detail how Trump, his White House chief of staff and other allies pressured members of the U.S. government to challenge the 2020 election over false claims.

Officials at Homeland Security and the Justice Department, as well as Republican election leaders across the country, repeatedly said there was no pervasive fraud. Former Attorney General William Barr, a longtime Trump loyalist, was among those who said there was no evidence of such fraud.

The emails also show the extent to which Trump worked to enlist then-acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen in his campaigns failing legal efforts to challenge the election result, including suggesting filing a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Those sent to Rosen include debunked conspiracy theories and false information about voter fraud. Trumps lies about the election helped spur on the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 in a failed effort to stop the certification of Joe Bidens victory.

It didnt happen, and on Jan. 3 another Justice official wrote that the cause of justice won.

It Would Be Too Hard To Get A Book That Was Factually Accurate Publisher Says

Donald Trump has insisted he is writing the book of all books even though major figures in US publishing said on Tuesday that no big house is likely to touch a memoir by the 45th president because it might stoke a staff uprising and it would be too hard to get a book that was factually accurate.

When Trump left the White House in January, the Washington Post said he made 30,573 false or misleading claims while in power. The comments by publishing insiders were reported by Politico.

Former presidents traditionally turn to their memoirs when they leave office after two terms, like Barack Obama, or are kicked out of it after one, like Trump. Ever since the Guardian broke news of Michael Wolffs first White House tell-all, Fire and Fury, in January 2018, books about Trump and his presidency have proved a goldmine.

In a statement last week, Trump said he turned down two book deals, from the most unlikely of publishers, which he did not name. I do not want a deal right now, he said. Im writing like crazy anyway, however, and when the time comes, youll see the book of all books.

Book deals by other rightwingers have run into problems in relation to the deadly attack on the US Capitol on January 6th, in service of Trumps lie about electoral fraud and attempt to overturn his election defeat.

Lafayette Square Protester Removal And Photo Op

The President

On June 1, 2020, federal law enforcement officials used batons, rubber bullets, pepper spray projectiles, stun grenades, and smoke to remove a largely peaceful crowd of protesters from Lafayette Square, outside the White House. Trump then walked to St. John’s Episcopal Church, where protesters had set a small fire the night before he posed for photographs holding a Bible, with senior administration officials later joining him in photos. Trump said on June 3 that the protesters were cleared because “they tried to burn down the church and almost succeeded”, describing the church as “badly hurt”.

Religious leaders condemned the treatment of protesters and the photo opportunity itself. Many retired military leaders and defense officials condemned Trump’s proposal to use the U.S. military against anti-police brutality protesters. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General , later apologized for accompanying Trump on the walk and thereby “creat the perception of the military involved in domestic politics”.

For Trump Email Is The New Twitter

By Glenn Thrush

Fridays positive jobs report might have been a day of exclamation points and all-caps self-congratulation for Donald J. Trump if he were A) still president, and B) still allowed to post on Twitter.

Instead, there was a somber tweet from the White House chief of staff, Ron Klain, who downplayed the 379,000 newly created jobs as not good enough, and Mr. Trump himself used a muted megaphone he once eschewed email to address an array of topics tailor-fit for social media.

Despite being delayed by years of litigation and politics by the Democrats, the wall is almost finished and can be quickly completed. Doing so will save thousands of lives, Mr. Trump wrote in an email on Friday, responding to recent White House moves to reverse his immigration and border wall policies.

Keep illegal immigration, crime, and the China Virus out of our country! he added in the email, sent by his post-presidential office.

It is Trumps Twitter feed, only now its my inbox, Rob Tornoe, a reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer, posted on Twitter after the email went out.

The old-is-new email format, which has no character count or content warnings, allows the former president to ramble and speak out as before, with all the same unedited idiosyncrasies of grammar and punctuation intact.

A few hours later, he targeted Karl Rove, a former adviser of President George W. Bush, for writing an op-ed piece calling Mr. Trumps speech at CPAC hollow.

Making Email Great Again

Before I start with a list, know that theres basic compliance and theres additional best practices. Some really awesome email marketing platforms do a lot in the realm of compliance and best practices because they only want customers that arent trying to spam people.

As you can probably guess, Trump isnt using one of these.

So here are the requirements for sending a CAN-SPAM compliant email:

  • Your subject line should not be misleading.
  • Your From address should not be misleading.
  • The recipients email address cannot be harvested from somewhere on the Internet .
  • A physical mailing address of the person or organization sending the email must be present.
  • An unsubscribe option must be in the footer.
  • Unsubscription requests must be honored in 10 days.
  • Thats the bulk of them. There are a few others, but theyre either a little dated, a little technical, or they fall in line with some of the other points.

Trumps Bid To Subvert The Election

A monthslong campaign.During his last days in office, President Donald J. Trump and his allies undertook an increasingly urgent effort to undermine the election results. That wide-ranging campaign included perpetuating false and thoroughly debunked claims of election fraud as well as pressing government officials for help.

Baseless claims of voter fraud.Although Mr. Trumps allegations of a stolen election have died in the courts and election officials of both parties from every state have said there is no evidence of fraud, Republicans across the country continued to spread conspiracy theories. Those include 147 House Republicans who voted against certifying the election.

Intervention at the Justice Department.Rebuffed by ranking Republicans and cabinet officials like Attorney General William P. Barr, who stepped down weeks before his tenure was to end, Mr. Trump sought other avenues to peddle his unfounded claims. In a bid to advance his personal agenda, Mr. Trump plotted to oust the acting attorney general and pressed top officials to declare that the election was corrupt. His chief of staff pushed the department to investigate an array of outlandish and unfounded conspiracy theories that held that Mr. Trump had been the victor.

I had seen what occurred in Georgia and I was like, I want no part of this madness and the only way I enter into this is I call the president back, Mr. Hickman said.

History collides, Mr. Hickman said. Its a small world.

    An Attack On The Capitol

In the weeks following the 2020 election, Trump refused to concede to Biden, declaring that he had won the election even though he and his legal team could not offer any evidence to back up his claims. On January 6, 2021, while Congress was in a joint session to count the electoral votes, a mob of violent protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol to prevent Congress from declaring victory for Biden. The mob consisted of people who believed Trumps false claims that he had won the election. Five people, including a U.S. Capitol police officer, died during the riots.

Many people believed that Trump encouraged his followers to overrun the Capitol because of remarks he had made on social media and at rallies, including one just before the attack happened. Because of that, the U.S. government moved to impeach Trump for the second time during his presidency to charge him with incitement of insurrection. He was officially impeached by the House of Representatives on January 13, 2021, this time with 10 Republicans joining Democrats to charge him. He is the only U.S. president ever to be impeached twice.

Trump Launches Official Website For Post

The White House is overwhelmed with the Russia scandal

Donald Trump is back online but not yet back on social media.

The former president launched an official website, 45office.com, for his post-presidency office on Monday. The website allows the public to submit messages, scheduling requests and press inquiries to Trump and former first lady Melania Trump.

Trump also says hell be back on social media, this time on his own platform, in the next few months.

Trump has been off Twitter since January, when the social media giant suspended his account after his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in a riot that resulted in five deaths. His Facebook and Instagram accounts were also suspended.

Also on Monday, Trump blasted two of his most prominent coronavirus advisers. He called Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx two self-promoters trying to reinvent history.

In a statement Monday night, Trump called Fauci the king of flip-flops and accused Fauci of moving the goalposts to make himself look as good as possible. Fauci is the chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden.

Birx managed the Trump administrations response to the pandemic. In the statement, he called her a proven liar with very little credibility left.

Church Service And White House Reception

On the morning of the inauguration, on January 20, after staying the night at the Blair House, the traditional house used by the incoming president-elect due to its proximity to the White House, Trump and his wife, Melania, and Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, attended a church service at St. Johns Episcopal Church. The tradition dates back to James Madison, with every president since then attending the church service the morning of their inauguration. The service was led by Robert Jeffress, a Southern Baptist minister who campaigned for Trump during the election.

After the church service, Trump and his wife went to the White House to meet with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The Obamas greeted the Trumps, and Melania presented the couple with a gift. They then posed for photos in front of the White House press corps. The presentation of a gift was a tradition started by Michelle Obama when she presented George W. Bush and Laura Bush with a gift on the day of her husbands inauguration in 2009. Afterward, they held a tea reception inside the White House, along with Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, and Mike Pence and his wife, Karen Pence. As per tradition, following the meeting between the president and the president-elect, they shared the presidential motorcade limousine, and made their way to the Capitol for the inaugural ceremony.
