$28 Million In Trump Reelection Donations Went To The Trump Organization: Report

Panel: Trump Tells Voters DON’T Donate To GOP, ONLY Donate To ME

An estimated $2.8 million in contributions to Donald Trumps reelection campaign ended up in the coffers of his heavily indebted Trump Organization, Forbes reported Friday.

Additionally, $4.3 million raised by his campaigns joint-fundraising committee, which collected money with the Republican Party, was spent on Trumps businesses from Jan. 20, 2017, to Dec. 31, 2020, according to Forbes examination of campaign filings to the Federal Election Commission.

The committee spent $11,000 on Trump hotels days after he lost the presidential election and an additional $294,000 a week later for lodging, catering and space rental, Forbes noted.

Forbes reported mid-year in 2020 that $2.2 million in donations from his campaign alone had already been spent on Trump properties. The Washington Post reported in early December that more than $1.06 million in campaign contributions were spent on Trump businesses in just the last weeks of his race.

Trump never contributed a cent to his reelection campaign, Forbes reported.

Trump raised $76 million after his loss ostensibly to battle the presidential election results and to help the Republican candidates in the vital Senate races in Georgia but didnt spend a dime on any of it, HuffPost has reported.

He put nothing back. He didnt care, one top Republican familiar with the fundraising operation told HuffPost. He put all this money in the bank for his own legal fights.

How Can Trump Spend His Leadership Pac Funds

Fischer said Save America funds can be used for the presidents post-White House political operation to keep former campaign staff on the payroll, to fund Trumps travel and expenses when he is campaigning for other candidates, and to help finance rallies and events .

He noted that its not entirely uncommon for politicians who are out of office, but eyeing another run for office, to use leadership PACs to sustain a political operation between elections.

Campaign finance watchdogs have referred to leadership PACs as slush funds for candidates over the years because although they were intended to enable politicians to spend the funds on other candidates races, the money is often used for more personal expenses that cannot be paid for by campaign funds. This is because, as Fischer notes, the Federal Election Commission hasnt interpreted the personal use ban to apply to leadership PAC funds.

What this means is that although Trump cannot use campaign funds to pay himself or his family members excessive salaries, or to buy enough copies of Don Jr.s book to land it on the bestseller list, he might try to use leadership PAC funds for such purposes, Fischer said. The Campaign Legal Center has also pointed out instances where politicians have drawn from their leadership PACs to pay for trips to Disney World, golf excursions, Broadway tickets and luxury hotel stays.

Trumps campaign to win the presidency required money, as did the Kremlins campaign to help him. While these two campaigns aligned in their goalTrumps victory3overt monetary contributions from Russia would have drawn regulatory scrutiny, not to mention public ire. Any financial support from abroad, therefore, would have had to be creatively obscured.

U.S. law bans foreign nationals from donating to political campaigns, but they can circumvent the restrictions by routing financial support through anonymous bank accounts, shell corporations, front companies, and other opaque transaction vehicles. Such maneuvering does not require a brilliant financial mind or a suite of high-tech instruments: In many places, including the United States, it is easy to set up a company without disclosing its purpose or the identity of its true owners. Foreign adversaries can then use these companies to execute anonymous financial transactions that facilitate attacks on free and fair democratic elections. For example, a network of shell corporations could be used to hide the origin of foreign funds pumped into a political action committee or a social media political ad campaign. The Kremlin has long had expertise in this area. During the Soviet Unions heyday, the KGB perfected the craft of anonymously moving funds to seed foreign political campaigns.4 The FSB and the GRU, the agencys heirs, are well-versed in these techniques as well.5

Republican Donations Surge Despite Corporate Boycott After Capitol Riots

By James Oliphant, Jason Lange, , Tim Reid

10 Min Read

Right after the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, dozens of U.S. companies announced they would halt political donations to the 147 Republican lawmakers who voted to overturn Donald Trumps presidential election loss. Two months later, there is little sign that the corporate revolt has done any real damage to Republican fundraising.

If anything, the biggest backers of Trumps false election-fraud narrative such as Missouri Senator Josh Hawley and Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene have been rewarded with a flood of grassroots donations, more than offsetting the loss of corporate money. And contributions from both small donors and rich individuals looking to fight the Democratic agenda have poured into the partys fundraising apparatus.

The boycotts limited impact underscores the diminishing role of corporate money in U.S. politics. Individual donations of $200 or less have made up a growing share of campaign money in recent years, while the share given by corporate America shrinks. That trend has accelerated with the rise of anti-establishment figures on both the right and left, such as Trump and progressive firebrand Bernie Sanders, a Vermont senator.

Interviews with Republican operatives, big-money donors and fundraisers revealed little apprehension that corporate outrage over the Jan. 6 Capitol riots would damage the partys fundraising for the 2022 congressional elections.

List Of Companies That Have Resumed Donations To Gop Election Objectors

Republican Party of Orange County

Prominent companies that paused political donations after some Republicans voted to object to the certification of President Joe Bidens election have started giving again.

Following the events of January 6 when rioters entered the Capitol and 147 elected Republicans voted against the certification of Electoral College votes, several major companies announced changes in their political donations. This included pauses in spending and statements that the company would not give money to those who had objected to Bidens win.

However, some of the corporate PACs of high profile companies that paused donations have begun donating to Republican objectors again, either through direct donations to the Republicans campaigns committees and leadership PACs or by donating to the National Republican Congressional Committee and National Republican Senatorial Committee , which provide support for the objectors.

Those companies, according to reports from the Washington Post, Daily Beast and Bloomberg, include: American Airlines, health insurance firm Cigna, insurance company Aflac, UPS, defense contractors Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, Boeing, General Motors, Ford, JetBlue, and Southern Co. a gas an electric company based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Potential Laundering Of Political Donations

Foreign powers can also try to influence political campaigns by directly funding candidates. Though U.S. campaign laws bar foreign funding, foreign actors could exploit existing regulatory gaps to circumvent this ban.87 For example, shell corporations, U.S.-based subsidiaries of foreign companies, and so-called dark money groups can all be used to disguise the true origin of donations.

Turning The Crowd Into The People

Populism is a complex and contested political concept. It is nevertheless identifiable by certain characteristics. First, of course, it often involves some form of demagoguery, a rhetorical device that Donald Trump masters perfectly, as rhetoric professor Jennifer Mercieca has shown. Youre stronger, youre smarter. Youve got more going than anybody, he told his audience on January 6. He also praised the crowds pride and supposed patriotism, calling out a deep and enduring love for America in our hearts an overwhelming pride in this great country. But flattery in itself does not define populism.

As political scientist has demonstrated, what characterizes populism is above all a very restrictive and exclusive definition of the people. In his inaugural speech, President Trump contrasted the forgotten people with a corrupt elite. When he addressed his supporters on January 6, he said: You are the real people which he defined as the people that built this nation, and contrary to the people that tore down our nation. Trumps American people are also the people who do not believe the corrupt fake news anymore.

As many observers have noted, Trump is obsessed with crowd size. One of the very first lies from his spokesperson regarded the size of the 2016 inauguration crowd, how it was bigger than Obamas in 2009, despite clear evidence to the contrary. This was the first of thousands of alternative facts that came to define Trumps presidency.

Now WinRed is exporting the tools it pioneered during the Trump reelection across the Republican Party, presaging a new normal for GOP campaigns.

Today, the websites of various Republican Party committees and top congressional Republicans, including Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the House minority leader, and Sen. Mitch McConnell, the Senate minority leader, include prechecked yellow boxes for multiple or recurring donations.

And after Trumps first public speech of his post-presidency at the end of February, his new political operation sent its first text message to supporters since he left the White House. Did you miss me? he asked.

The message directed supporters to a WinRed donation page with two prechecked yellow boxes. Trump raised $3 million that day, according to an adviser, with more to come from the recurring donations in the months ahead.

Trump Taking Personal Credit For Donations Made Using Foundation Money

Both The Washington Post and Fox News reported that Trump repeatedly claimed in public, beginning in 2015, to have made over $102 million in charitable donations in the past five years. The Trump Organization provided journalists with a 93-page list of the donations. None of the cash donations were confirmed to come from Trump himself many were actually grants from the Trump Foundation.

For example, Trump took personal credit and was honored for a Trump Foundation grant to the Palm Beach Police Foundation that was actually from an outside source . He had pledged the money personally, and then the Trump Foundation solicited the $150,000 earmarked for the police foundation from an unrelated philanthropic organization, the Charles Evans Foundation. The Trump Foundation then paid the Palm Beach charity. The police then honored Trump personally with its annual Palm Tree Award at Trumps hotel at its annual fundraiser. The Washington Post wrote that Trump had effectively turned the Evans Foundations gifts into his gifts, without adding any money of his own.

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has honored Trump variously as Grand Benefactor and Grand Honorary Chair at its annual fundraisers held at Trumps estate. Trump may have also earned more money on the event fees it received from the institute than the Trump Foundation paid to the institute in grants. Trump has directed at least $300,000 of grants of the Trump Foundation money to Dana-Farber since 2010.

Trump Camp Uses Online Gimmick To Fuel Donations Into December

The Trump campaign is now automatically checking a box to create recurring weekly donations from supporters until mid-December.

President Trumps campaign is raising money for a prolonged political and legal fight long after Nov. 3 and recently began automatically checking a box to withdraw additional weekly contributions from online donors through mid-December nearly six weeks after Election Day.

Predicting FRAUD like youve never seen, the language on Mr. Trumps website opts contributors into making the weekly post-election donations to ensure we have the resources to protect the results and keep fighting even after Election Day. Users must proactively click to avoid making multiple contributions.

The unusual post-election revenue stream would help Mr. Trump pay off any bills that his campaign accumulates before Tuesday a campaign spokesman said no such debts had been incurred and could help fund a lengthy legal fight if the results are contested.

This race will be very close, and it is possible that multiple states will require recounts and potential additional spending from our campaign, said Tim Murtaugh, a spokesman for Mr. Trumps campaign. The election process this year is under extraordinary circumstances, and we are also anticipating that Silicon Valley will attempt to interfere with our online fund-raising efforts post-election.

We have plenty, he said. You can only buy so many commercials.

How We Put Donations To Use

The Utah Republican Party is an organization comprised of 1,000,000 members strong. Together, the party ensures that conservative principles are the basis for decision making statewide. In order to support our members, elected representatives, and maintain our stronghold, fundraising must be a perpetual effort. Your donation can make a difference in three key areas:

  • Fund Operations: we enjoy having a state party office that helps convene the party and enable leadership to carry out their responsibilities. Operational support includes helping pay the power bill, maintain the website, and keep the phones on.
  • Sponsor an Event: each year we strive to provide an experience for all delegates and members to come together and conduct party business at our state organizing convention. This is among the most important events the party hosts. We ask for your assistance in helping pay for the signage, advertising, venue, etc.
  • Support a Candidate: help a candidate with flyers, calls or transportation. Campaigns quickly exhaust financial resources and candidates are always looking for additional help in this area.

Toyota Will Stop Donating To Republicans Who Objected To Election Certification

Infographics: Political donations to political parties and who ...

WASHINGTON Japanese automaker Toyota announced Thursday it will stop contributing to Republican members of Congress who on Jan. 6 voted against certifying the 2020 election results after a PAC said it would begin running ads criticizing companies for such donations.

Toyotas decision to donate to those lawmakers after Jan. 6 troubled some stakeholders, and for that reason we have decided to stop contributing to those Members of Congress, the company said in a statement.

The move came after an announcement by the Lincoln Project, a PAC formed by Republicans to defeat then-President Donald Trump in 2020, that it would target corporations that donated to Republicans who opposed the formalization of Joe Bidens 2020 presidential victory. An advertisement aimed at Toyota ran on Thursday.

Toyota made the right choice today, the Lincoln Project posted on Twitter after Toyotas reversal.

The Lincoln Project also criticized the cable company Comcast for refusing to air their advertisement and opting instead to shield corporate advertisers, the group said in a tweet. Comcast owns NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC News. A representative for Comcast did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump and his supporters spent months trying to cast doubt on and overturn the results of the election, culminating in an effort to derail the official counting of Electoral College votes on Jan. 6 when a mob of his supporters attacked the Capitol.
