New England Patriots Vs Dolphins

Don't Miss

Patriots Back In The Postseason

Dolphins vs. Patriots Week 1 Highlights | NFL 2021

After a rocky 1-3 start to the year, the New England Patriots found their form. They now sit at 10-6 and the No. 5 seed in the AFC. Theyve won eight of their last 10 games, and rookie quarterback Mac Jones has settled into his role effectively.

Not only that, but New England is seeing the benefits of a strong offseason. Free agent additions such as linebacker Matt Judon have helped bring the franchise back to where everybody expects them to be playing football in January. With both the Bills and the Patriots at 10-6, the division title is still up for grabs. Also up for grabs? The AFC crown and the No. 1 seed.

There is just one game between the No. 1 and No. 5 seed in the AFC, with Tennessee currently holding the top spot. However, for the Patriots to finish the No. 1 seed, they need to win, have the Texans beat the Titans, the Jets beat the Bills, the Broncos beat the Chiefs, and the Browns beat the Bengals. All of that seemsunlikely.

Unless the Bills lose to the Jets, the Patriots will remain the No. 5 seed, even if they beat the Dolphins. Either way, they will need to be ready for a tough postseason route to the Super Bowl in a conference that is totally up for grabs.

Get Into Space In The Running Game

New England Patriots vs Miami Dolphins

The Titans game was an off-day for the Dolphins after seven straight wins, but it also can be seen as a blueprint of sorts on how to attack their defense. Tennessee, for example, found tremendous success on the ground: the team of another ex-Patriot, linebacker-turned-head-coach Mike Vrabel, gained 198 yards on 40 carries for an average of 5.0 yards per rushing attempt it also scored two touchdowns.

One big reason for the Titans success was the blocking up front. Their offensive line dominated Miamis linemen and linebackers, repeatedly allowing backs to get into the second or third levels of the defense.

The Patriots will likely not copy Tennessees game plan one-for-one, though. The Titans are an outside zone team, while New England relies primarily on man blocking concepts up front. Nonetheless, they can adapt to find success by stressing one area in particular: getting into space.

Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, for example, could call toss plays to get his running backs into space:

This particular concept is called Toss 39, and sees the running back attack to the strong side of the formation. The Patriots employ man-to-man blocks up front, but use the right guard on a pull to get to the second level and take on the off-the-ball linebacker .

The Patriots also could use sprint concepts behind a seven-man line:

The Dolphins End Their Season With A 9

The Miami Dolphins have ended their 2021 season on a high note, moving above .500 to 9-8 after taking down the New England Patriots on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, 33-24.

Miami began the day jumping out to a 17-0 lead — which included a pick-six by cornerback Xavien Howard — and were able to stay in front of New England for the entire game. That initial scoring run proved to be enough of a cushion for the Dolphins even as the Patriots began to claw back into the game. In the second half, New England did cut the lead to a field goal, but Miami was able to run down enough clock in the fourth quarter to make a comeback unattainable.

Tagovailoa finished his day completing 15 of his 22 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, the Dolphins ground game led by Duke Johnson was what truly moved the offense throughout the day. They totaled 195 yards as a team with Johnson accounting for 117 of those yards on a 4.7 yards per carry clip. On the Patriots side, Jones completed 20 of 30 passes for 261 yards, a touchdown and a pick. Brandon Bolden led the team in rushing and had two total touchdown on the day.

This loss did prove to be moot point in the Patriots, who had already clinched a playoff spot entering Week 18, hopes of winning the AFC East as the Buffalo Bills were able to beat the New York Jets at home. Miami Dolphins

For Dolphins coach Brian Flores, there’s a bit of history waiting too, as there are 120 coaches who have faced Belichick in his 22 seasons with the Patriots. And of them, four, Dave Wannstedt, Mike Shanahan, Tom Coughlin and Tony Dungy, are the only ones in that span to have beaten Belichick three times in a row. Flores, a former Patriots assistant who spent 15 years on the team with three Super Bowl wins with Belichick, can join that group this afternoon.

Patriots Vs Dolphins Betting Odds: Week 18 Moneyline Spread

The New England Patriots are officially postseason bound.

The Patriots clinched a spot in the playoffs with their 50-10 wallopping of the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The win bumped Bill Belichicks squad to 10-6 on the season as they sit in the No. 5 seed in the AFC.

Mac Jones got back on track, finishing 22-of-30 for 227 yards and three touchdowns. Jakobi Meyers had eight catches for 73 yards and a touchdown, while Kristian Wilkerson, freshly promoted from the practice squad, grabbed four catches for 42 yards and two touchdowns in his first NFL contest.

In the ground game, Damien Harris rushed for 35 yards and two touchdowns early before the Patriots let Rhamondre Stevenson roll, who tallied 107 yards and two scores of his own. Defensively, the Pats picked off Trevor Lawrence three times, including another interception for J.C. Jackson.

New England wraps up the regular season the same way they started with a matchup against the Miami Dolphins. After ripping off seven consecutive wins, the Dolphins fell to the Tennessee Titans 34-3 in Week 17, eliminating them from the playoffs.

While the Patriots already have a playoff spot, their seeding is on the line in Week 18 and there is still a chance for the Pats to get the AFC East. However, they need a win and the Buffalo Bills to lose to the New York Jets in order to grab the division title.

Here is the betting info for Sundays game:

Tua Scores Two Rushing Tds As Dolphins Pound Patriots In 22

MIAMI GARDENS So, how do the Miami Dolphins win a game without their four leading receivers?

that has not existed during the first two seasons of the Brian Flores era until Sunday.

Dolphins rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa scored two rushing touchdowns, rookie running back Salvon Ahmed scored one of his own with 114 of Miamis 250 rushing yards on the day, and Miami beat the New England Patriots 22-12 at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.

Dolphins running back Matt Breida added 86 yards, cornerback Xavien Howard forced a fumble to extend Miamis turnover forced streak to 20 consecutive games.

More importantly, the Dolphins clinched a winning season for the first time since 2016, under Flores, the second-year coach tasked with reshaping the team into a winner.

Dave Hyde: On a measuring-stick day, Tagovailoa and Dolphins come up embarrassingly short in loss to Titans »

Since Day 1, there wasnt a doubt in my mind after I met coach Flores and joined the organization that we could do some good things, said Christian Wilkins, Miamis first draft pick when its rebuild under Flores and general manager Chris Grier began in 2019.

Hopefully good things can continue. Im excited to be part of it.

The Dolphins playoff chances this season also increased to nearly 40%, according to analytics site FiveThirtyEight, with Miami needing wins against the Las Vegas Raiders this Saturday night and AFC East champion Buffalo Bills on Jan. 3 to reach the postseason.

Week 18 Nfl Picks For Dolphins Vs Patriots

New England Patriots vs Miami Dolphins live stream: Watch ...

Before you tune in to Sunday’s Patriots vs. Dolphins game, you need to see the NFL picks from SportsLine’s advanced computer model. The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up over $7,200 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception six-plus years ago. The model enters Week 18 of the 2021 season on an incredible 135-96 run on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season.

The model also ranked in the top 10 on NFLPickWatch four of the past five years on straight-up NFL picks and beat more than 94 percent of CBS Sports Football Pick’em players four times during that span. Anyone who has followed it is way up.

For Dolphins vs. Patriots, the model is backing the Patriots to cover the spread on the road. After going 7-9 a season ago and generally struggling in their first season without Tom Brady, it looked like the Patriots might be in for more of the same when they opened the season with a 17-16 loss to the Dolphins.

However, rookie quarterback Mac Jones learned the ropes relatively quickly and has delivered reliably steady performances while Bill Belichick’s defense has been dominant. New England ranks first in the NFL in scoring defense , third in total defense and third in takeaways , which could be a big problem for a Miami offense that has turned the ball over 26 times.

Three Things To Watch

Dolphins vs. Patriots Week 1 Highlights | NFL 2020

1. Can Miami’s defense rebound against an explosive New England offense?Heading into the Week 14 bye, New England had won seven in a row and had scored at least 24 points in all but two games since the start of October with one of the two exceptions a 14-10 Week 13 win on a Monday night in windy, snowy conditions. In other words, the Patriots’ offense had been clicking on all cylinders before the bye but followed the break with just 38 total points across losses to Indianapolis and Buffalo.

Last week, though, the Patriots welcomed in the new year with their second 50-point output of the season in the romp over the Jaguars. Four first-half touchdowns including two rushing scores by Damien Harris paved the way for a 28-3 lead before Rhamondre Stevenson notched two of his own and Kristian Wilkerson brought in his second touchdown pass of the game from Mac Jones.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, allowed 24 points just once during their seven-game winning streak after six of their seven previous losses came to teams eclipsing that mark. But their 34-3 loss at Tennessee last week brought many of the defense’s struggles to light once again, as quarterback Ryan Tannehill in his first game against his former team threw for two touchdowns while D’Onta Foreman and Dontrell Hilliard each found the end zone on the ground. If Miami is unable to bounce back from its struggles in Nashville, look for New England to have its way offensively on Sunday.
