Former President Donald Trump is defending his handling of sensitive government records, telling Fox News host Sean Hannity that the president can declassify materials with just a thought.
Trump made the remarks Wednesday evening in response to litigation thats increasingly centering on whether Trump properly declassified thousands of documents seized by FBI agents from his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida. Speaking to Hannity at Mar-a-Lago, Trump reiterated his claim that he declassified the documents in addition to declaring a sweeping new ability for the president to do so.
You can declassify just by saying its declassified, even by thinking about it. Because youre sending it to Mar-a-Lago or to wherever youre sending, said Trump. And it doesnt have to be a process. Doing so will save thousands of lives, Mr. Trump wrote in an email on Friday, responding to recent White House moves to reverse his immigration and border wall policies.

House January 6 Committee Obtains Email Outlining Early Plan To Try To Overturn Trumps 2020 Loss
The House select committee investigating the 2021 US Capitol insurrection has obtained a December 2020 proposal from a lawyer to Rudy Giuliani and others that sketched out an early, rough plan to halt Joe Biden becoming president by throwing the certification of the election into the hands of the Senate pro tempore at the time, Republican Chuck Grassley of Iowa.
The December 13 email, written by a New York lawyer named Kenneth Chesebro, is significant because its the only document so far that the House has obtained solely because of a judges finding that it could become evidence of a crime. The email came to light as part of a court fight over right-wing attorney John Eastmans email account.
The House has obtained, through other arguments, hundreds of additional Eastman emails relevant to his work for then-President Donald Trump before January 6, 2021, and is still arguing for access to more. Eastman advised Trump on ways to try to block his electoral loss.
The email from Chesebro, in its subject line, called the proposal the President of the Senate strategy. The committee obtained the email several weeks ago, and it became public in the court filing recently.

New Emails Detail Trumps Efforts To Have Justice Department Take Up His False Election
President Donald Trumps staff began sending emails to Jeffrey Rosen, the No. 2 official at the Justice Department, asking him to embrace Trumps claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election at least 10 days before Rosen assumed the role of acting attorney general, according to new emails disclosed Tuesday by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.
On the same day the electoral college met to certify the election results which was also the day Trump announced that William P. Barr would be stepping down as attorney general the presidents assistant sent Rosen an email with a list of complaints concerning the way the election had been carried out in Antrim County, Mich.
The file included a forensic analysis of the Dominion Voting Systems machines the county employed, alleging they were intentionally and purposefully calibrated to create fraudulent results. It also included talking points that could be used to counter any arguments against us.
Its indicative of what the machines can and did do to move votes, the document Trump sent to Rosen reads. We believe it has happened everywhere.
The claims were false, based on a report compiled by Allied Security Operations Group, a company led by a Republican businessman who pushed baseless allegations that the 2020 election was stolen.
Rosen did not respond to messages seeking comment. A spokesman for Trump did not respond to requests for comment.
