Republicans Who Questioned The 2020 Results Are Bringing Back An Old Norm: Admitting Defeat
WASHINGTON The losers of this years midterm elections are winning praise for doing something that would be entirely unremarkable in another era admitting defeat.
From Maine to Michigan, Senate to state legislature, Republican to Democrat, most high-profile candidates who fell short in the 2022 midterm elections are offering quick concessions and gracious congratulations to their opponents. They include candidates who earned endorsements from former President Donald Trump by embracing his false claims that elections are rigged against Republicans.
I know its a low bar, I really do, but: I am heartened by the number of defeated Republicans who are conceding and congratulating their opponents, tweeted Josh Chafetz, a constitutional law professor at Georgetown University.
Of course, dozens of Republican candidates who questioned the legitimacy of President Joe Bidens election won Tuesday and will end up in Congress, including J.D. Vance of Ohio, who won a Senate seat. And some, like Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, haven’t seen their races called yet and have hinted at invoking baseless claims of fraud.
But most of those who lost ended up not following Trumps playbook.

Democracy watchers are breathing a sigh of relief, especially because many feared Trump had set a precedent that Republicans might use to deny ever losing another election.
Democracy depends on losers acknowledging the legitimacy of their defeat, said Brendan Nyhan, a Dartmouth political scientist who co-founded Bright Line Watch, a watchdog group that monitors the status of American democracy. Donald Trump and the denialism that has spread through the GOP have shredded that norm. Thats why its heartening to see candidates conceding we need to celebrate these acts of grace.
Celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz, who won Trumps endorsement and his GOP primary with it by saying things like we cannot move on from the 2020 election, extended an olive branch in conceding the Pennsylvania Senate race to Democrat John Fetterman.
We are facing big problems as a country, and we need everyone to put down their partisan swords and focus on getting the job done, Oz said Wednesday. I wish him and his family all the best, both personally and as our next United States senator.
Last year, Dan Cox helped arrange tour buses to take Trump supporters to Washington on Jan. 6 and attended the rally that preceded the deadly insurrection at the Capitol. While he said he never entered the Capitol, he did tweet Pence is a traitor after former Vice President Mike Pence certified the 2020 result.
Most losing Republican candidates followed scripts more like Coxs than Trumps.

Former New York City Mayor and founder of Bloomberg LP Michael Bloomberg formally entered the 2020 presidential race in November 2019. He is the second billionaire Democrat to seek the presidency during this election cycle.
Out of the running: By Super Tuesday, it was clear that Bloomberg’s efforts to target the 15 contests in play in lieu of traditional campaigning methods of hitting the early voting states did not pay off in terms of netting the bulk of pledged delegates or the popular vote. Oregon Democrat Kotek Wins Tough Three
– Democrat Tina Kotek won a tough three-way race to become the next governor of Oregon, the Associated Press projected on Thursday, enabling Democrats to extend nearly four decades of control over the Oregon governorship.
With 91% of the expected vote counted, Edison Research had yet to call the race. Official returns from Tuesday’s election showed Kotek winning 47.1% of the vote to 43.5% for Republican Christine Drazan.
Betsy Johnson, a strong independent candidate and former Democrat, polled at 8.6%.
The last time a Republican was elected governor was in 1982, and Kotek was always favored to succeed Democratic governor Kate Brown, who could not run again due to term limits. With the polls tightening late in the race, President Joe Biden visited Oregon in mid-October to campaign with Kotek, a former state legislator.
The result would give Democrats a 17-16 edge in the 36 governor races from Tuesday’s U.S. midterm elections, with Alaska, Arizona and Nevada yet to be determined.
Democrats have flipped two Republican governorships to their column, in Maryland and Massachusetts, with a chance to take Arizona away from the Republicans as well. Nevada, however, could slip from Democratic to Republican control.
Election officials in Maricopa County, Arizona’s most populous county, said it could take until at least Friday to tally all votes from Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Bloomberg Gives $18 Million To Dnc In Lieu Of Starting His Own Group To Beat Trump
WASHINGTON Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is transferring $18 million left in the accounts of his now-defunct presidential campaign to the Democratic National Committee and forgoing, for now, creating his own independent political group to help Democrats in November.
While we considered creating our own independent entity to support the nominee and hold the President accountable, this race is too important to have many competing groups with good intentions but that are not coordinated and united in strategy and execution, Bloombergs campaign said in a memo to the DNC. The dynamics of the race have also fundamentally changed, and it is critically important that we all do everything we can to support our eventual nominee and scale the Democratic Partys general election efforts.
The funds will be put towards the DNCs battleground buildup program, to hire data and operations staffers, among other efforts, in a dozen states that will be important in the general election.
Bloomberg will also offer to transfer campaign field offices the billionaires campaign set up and paid for to local state Democratic Parties as in-kind contributions. His staff, some of which were planning to transfer to work for Bloombergs independent entity in six battleground states, are all being laid off. They will be paid through the first week of April and have full benefits through the end of April.

How Much Is Bloomberg Spending
Mr Bloombergs ad spending has so far out-paced Mr Trumps, according to advertising data.
In the past two weeks alone, Mr Bloomberg has splurged more than $1m per day on Facebook ads, mostly targeting Super Tuesday states that will vote on 3 March.
Thats more than five times what Mr Trump has spent over the same period, according to NBC News.
According to Forbes, the co-founder of financial media company Bloomberg LP is worth $62bn. Mr Trumps own fortune is estimated at $3.1bn.
Mr Trump disparaged his fellow New York billionaire on Thursday, tweeting: Mini Mike Bloomberg is a LOSER who has money but cant debate and has zero presence, you will see.
In response, Mr Bloomberg said the people of New York City laugh at you & call you a carnival barking clown.
Earlier in the week, Mr Trump called Mr Bloomberg a total racist after an audio tape emerged of the former mayor making incendiary comments while defending the controversial stop and frisk policing policy.

Does Michael Bloomberg Stand A Chance Running As A Democrat
Many people have criticized Bloomberg for running as a Democrat. They claim that instead of him running as a Democrat, he shouldve ran as a Republican.
These people claim that by Bloomberg running as a Democrat, it will taint the party. After all, they are a party of socialists, rather than a party where the rich will reside.
I personally believe that the presidential election itself will come down to a four way race. Michael Bloomberg, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Donald Trump.
Sadly for Bloomberg however, I do believe that President Trump will win re-election based off the statistic that eleven out of the last thirteen presidents have been re-elected.
However, I do believe that it will come down to Michael Bloomberg gaining the Democratic nomination. However, he will lose to Trump in the election itself.
I believe that Bloomberg running as a Democrat will either make or break the party. As, by him running as a Democrat, it may set a precedent that future billionaires will follow. But I doubt that will truly happen.

As mayor, constituents described him as “cold” and “business-like”, but effective. When he left office in 2013, his 12 years at city hall were seen as a success by New Yorkers, and his subsequent philanthropic activities – including his biggest project, backing gun control legislation across the US – put him solidly in the Democratic camp once again.
In 2018, he spent $41m backing Democratic candidates running for the US House of Representatives. Twenty-one out of the 24 he supported won, 15 of whom were women. In 2019, he donated $3.9 billion to charities supporting top issues on the left, from green energy to abortion access.
But Mr Bloomberg’s bid to become the man to take on Mr Trump in 2020 struck a discordant tone with a party that made demands for race, gender and income equality a large part of its diagnosis for America’s ills.

His record, particularly on race, faced fierce scrutiny. A hard-line policing tactic, stop and frisk, that was expanded by Mr Bloomberg over the course of his mayoral terms was criticised as racist and ineffective.

From 2010 to 2012, Bloomberg LP spent $2.5 million lobbying on financial issues, a fact not disclosed in his Fix the Debt biography. Most of Bloomberg LPs lobbyists previously held federal government jobs. His long-term partner is Diana L. Taylor, who is the state banking superintendent for the State of New York as well as a board member of Citigroup with an annual compensation of $316,250 in 2011, and of Brookfield Properties. Citigroup lobbies on corporate tax reform. Bloomberg has long been sympathetic to the deficit reduction crowd. In a March 2012 op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg complained about the President asking millionaires and billionaires to do more to fix the debt calling it class warfare, and backed the $4 trillion Simpson-Bowles deficit reduction plan. He also expressed support for the expiration of Bush tax cuts for all income levels, which would have been a large hike on the poor and middle class. Bloomberg pushed the No Budget, No Pay bill stunt backed by Fix the Debt partner organization Comeback America Initiative, which passed the U.S. House in January 2013, but was promptly denounced as unconstitutional. With polls closed across most of the US, some of the bellwether races that Republicans had hoped to snatch were held by Democrats. In one of their biggest wins of the night, John Fetterman narrowly defeated Republican television celebrity Mehmet Oz to claim a Senate seat in Pennsylvania.

Trumps economic policies have meant that they are becoming wealthier by the day. Trump has also served as the bulwark against socialism that long precedes other billionaires!
Yet, Michael Bloomberg is an exception. He has criticized Trump on many occasions, saying that his way of governing is bringing the country to ruin. He has also criticized Trumps economic plans such as the Muslim ban and the Mexican border wall.
But why on Earth is he not following in the footsteps of other billionaires before him?
Michael Bloomberg is running as a Democrat because he wants to appear like the man of the people. He wants you to discard the fact that there is a multi-billion dollar company bearing his name. He wants to be your president.
It has actually been quite common for billionaires to back Democrats for a while now. Many billionaires themselves are/were Democrats at one point too!
