What Does Trump Want To Do In 2020

Economy: Lower Individual And Corporate Taxes Cut Regulations End Trade Deficits

Donald Trump role in 2020 US election challenge investigated by prosecutors – BBC News

Strengthening the economy by driving economic growth was a key part of Trumps Make America Great Again message in 2016. Trump pledged to eliminate Obama-era regulations on businesses, cut taxes, revive the manufacturing sector, boost domestic energy production, renegotiate trade agreements and take other steps to create new jobs.

As president, Trump has followed through on many of those pledges. His administration has slashed regulations on the financial, agricultural and energy sectors, among others, arguing that deregulation spurs economic growth. Manufacturing jobs went up initially under Trump, though the boom slowed after his first year in office. The coal industry stopped r shedding jobs after years of decline under President Barack Obama, though it hasnt shown gains as more energy companies shift away from coal. In late 2017, Trump signed into law a Republican tax reform bill that slashed taxes for corporations, high-income earners and many middle-class families.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, as businesses have reopened the unemployment rate has declined, and last month stood at 8.4 percent, still considerably higher than the rate Trump inherited in 2017. More than 800,000 people are filing jobless claims weekly, a sign the economy remains in flux heading into the final weeks of campaigning ahead of the election.

How Trump Damaged Science And Why It Could Take Decades To Recover

People packed in by the thousands, many dressed in red, white and blue and carrying signs reading Four more years and Make America Great Again. They came out during a global pandemic to make a statement, and thats precisely why they assembled shoulder-to-shoulder without masks in a windowless warehouse, creating an ideal environment for the coronavirus to spread.

US President Donald Trumps rally in Henderson, Nevada, on 13 September contravened state health rules, which limit public gatherings to 50 people and require proper social distancing. Trump knew it, and later flaunted the fact that the state authorities failed to stop him. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the president has behaved the same way and refused to follow basic health guidelines at the White House, which is now at the centre of an ongoing outbreak. The president spent 3 days in a hospital after testing positive for COVID-19, and was released on 5 October.

This is not just ineptitude, its sabotage, says Jeffrey Shaman, an epidemiologist at Columbia University in New York City, who has modelled the evolution of the pandemic and how earlier interventions might have saved lives in the United States. He has sabotaged efforts to keep people safe.

Ive never seen such an orchestrated war on the environment or science, says Christine Todd Whitman, who headed the EPA under former Republican president George W. Bush.

A Dearth Of Shared Facts And Information

One of the few things that Republicans and Democrats could agree on during Trumps tenure is that they didnt share the same set of facts. In a 2019 survey, around three-quarters of Americans said most Republican and Democratic voters disagreed not just over political plans and policies, but over basic facts.

Much of the disconnect between the parties involved the news media, which Trump routinely disparaged as fake news and the enemy of the people. Republicans, in particular, expressed widespread and growing distrust of the press. In a 2019 survey, Republicans voiced more distrust than trust in 2o of the 30 specific news outlets they were asked about, even as Democrats expressed more trust than distrust in 22 of those same outlets. Republicans overwhelmingly turned to and trusted one outlet included in the study Fox News even as Democrats used and expressed trust in a wider range of sources. The study concluded that the two sides placed their trust in two nearly inverse media environments.

Some of the media organizations Trump criticized most vocally saw the biggest increases in GOP distrust over time. The share of Republicans who said they distrusted CNN rose from 33% in a 2014 survey to 58% by 2019. The proportion of Republicans who said they distrusted The Washington Post and The New York Times rose 17 and 12 percentage points, respectively, during that span.3

War On The Environment

Trump hasnt just gone after regulations. At the EPA, his administration has sought to undermine the way the government uses science to make public-health decisions.

The scale of the threat came into focus on 31 October 2017 Halloween when then EPA administrator Scott Pruitt signed an order barring scientists with active EPA research grants from serving on the agencys science-advisory panels, making it harder for people with the most expertise to help the agency assess science and craft regulations. The order made it easier for industry scientists to replace the academic researchers, who would be forced to either give up their grants or resign.

That was when I said, Oh my god, the fix is in, says John Bachmann, who spent more than three decades in the EPAs air-quality programme and is now active in a group of retired EPA employees that formed to advocate for scientists and scientific integrity at the agency, after Trump officials began their assault. Its not just that they have their own views, its that they are going to make sure that their views carry more weight in the process.

Pruitt resigned in July 2018, but the trend at the EPA continues. Under its new administrator, Andrew Wheeler, the agency has accelerated efforts to weaken regulations targeting chemicals in water and air pollution.

Donald Trump Presidential Campaign 2020

Trump
2024 2020 2016
This is the most important election in the history of our country. There has never been such a difference between two parties, or two individuals, in ideology, philosophy, or vision than there is right now. Our opponents believe that America is a depraved nation. We want our sons and daughters to know the truth: America is the greatest and most exceptional nation in the history of the world! Our country wasnt built by cancel culture, speech codes, and soul-crushing conformity. We are not a nation of timid spirits. We are a nation of fierce, proud, and independent American Patriots.

Early Life And Business Career

Trump was the fourth of five children of Frederick Christ Trump, a successful real estate developer, and Mary MacLeod. Donalds eldest sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, eventually served as a U.S. district court judge and later as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit until her retirement in 2011. His elder brother, Frederick, Jr. , worked briefly for his fathers business before becoming an airline pilot in the 1960s. Freddys alcoholism led to his early death in 1981, at the age of 43.

Donald Trump attended New York Military Academy , a private boarding school Fordham University in the Bronx and the University of Pennsylvanias Wharton School of Finance and Commerce , where he graduated with a bachelors degree in economics. In 1968, during the Vietnam War, he secured a diagnosis of bone spurs, which qualified him for a medical exemption from the military draft . Upon his graduation Trump began working full-time for his fathers business, helping to manage its holdings of rental housing, then estimated at between 10,000 and 22,000 units. In 1974 he became president of a conglomeration of Trump-owned corporations and partnerships, which he later named the Trump Organization.

Ending The ‘reliance’ On China And Protecting Us Manufacturing

Mr Trump first campaigned on the promise the US should put focus on its own economic interests though he has said “America First” does “not mean “America alone”.

On trade, Mr Trump has taken a hard-line stance on China, coupled with a policy to protect local manufacturers from foreign competition – and those remain the key aspects of his trade policy.

Throughout his first term, the president emphasised his work renegotiating past trade deals he says were unfair to the US – like Nafta, between the US, Canada, and Mexico – or leaving them outright – like the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

On the 2016 campaign trail, he also promised to fix the US trade deficit , which, for the first time in six years did decline in 2019, though economists disagree on whether this suggests an improvement in the economy.

President Trump’s ongoing trade war with China has raised border taxes on close to $500bn of annual trade, and this year’s “phase one” deal between the two nations saw most of the tariffs remain in place.

In August, he said he wants to offer tax credits to entice US firms to move factories out of China , saying “we will end our reliance on China”.

Mr Trump has also imposed tariffs on goods from the European Union – from steel to French wine – has threatened tariffs on steel and aluminium from Brazil and Argentina, and recently re-imposed tariffs on some Canadian aluminium products.

What He Says Now

Last Saturday, speaking at his first major campaign rally since the coronavirus pandemic emerged, Trump actually outlined a second-term agenda in broad terms. But as he did so, he couldn’t help but interject with asides and defenses and attacks.

A vote for Republicans is a vote for better schools, better jobs, safer families and stronger communities for all Americans, he said, introducing the section of his prepared speech that was meant to make the case for another four years. There is no limit to what we can together achieve with four more years.”

With your help, we will lift millions of our citizens from welfare to work, dependence to independence, and poverty to prosperity, he continued.

Ill interject here to note that transcripts of Trumps speeches dont convey the way in which he obviously reads the room and reacts to it. Most politicians understand that speeches are given in part to establish a record to which they can refer. Trump, though, cant stand to see the audience bored and cant introduce a thought without ensuring that its framed the way he wants. So after talking about lifting Americans to prosperity, he had to add that it was Chinas fault that things werent currently great.

Then on to other issues.

How Much Is Donald Trump Worth

What QAnon followers believe now – BBC News

Mr. Trump, famous for telling falsehoods and making inflated claims about himself, has long claimed to be a billionaire. The question of how much Mr. Trump is really worth has been a moving target, and one he refuses to answer. He has continued to refuse to release his tax returns, and its now a battle being fought in the courts.

He has tried to shield his tax returns from Manhattan state prosecutors, an effort that was rejected by a federal judge. The Justice Department has helped his attempt to block a subpoena demanding the release of eight years of his personal and corporate tax returns.

Nato Allies Increased Their Defense Spending Because Of His Pressure Campaign

True. Although NATO countries were already modestly increasing their military spending before Mr. Trump took office, there is evidence that his public complaints led to a deal that allowed the United States to decrease its own spending, while some other countries increased their share each year that he has been in office.

Transition Period Inauguration And First 100 Days

Trump was inaugurated on January 20, 2017. He was sworn in by Chief JusticeJohn Roberts. In his seventeen-minute inaugural address, Trump painted a dark picture of contemporary America, pledging to end “American carnage” caused by urban crime and saying America’s “wealth, strength, and confidence has dissipated” by jobs lost overseas. He declared his strategy would be “America First.” The largest single-day protest in U.S. history, the Women’s March, took place the day after his inauguration and was driven by opposition to Trump and his policies and views.

One of Trump’s major first year accomplishments, made as part of a “100day pledge,” was the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch as an associate justice of the Supreme Court. Despite the Republican Party holding a majority in both houses of Congress, however, he was unable to fulfill another hundred-day promise, repealing the Affordable Care Act .

A Reckoning Over Racial Inequality

Racial tensions were a constant undercurrent during Trumps presidency, often intensified by the public statements he made in response to high-profile incidents.

The death of George Floyd, in particular, brought race to the surface in a way that few other recent events have. The videotaped killing of the unarmed, 46-year-old Black man by a White police officer in Minneapolis was among several police killings that sparked national and international protests in 2020 and led to an outpouring of public support for the Black Lives Matter movement, including from corporations, universities and other institutions. In a survey shortly after Floyds death in May, two-thirds of U.S. adults including majorities across all major racial and ethnic groups voiced support for the movement, and use of the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag surged to a .

Attitudes began to change as the protests wore on and sometimes turned violent, drawing sharp condemnation from Trump. By September, support for the Black Lives Matter movement had slipped to 55% largely due to decreases among White adults and many Americans questioned whether the nations renewed focus on race would lead to changes to address racial inequality or improve the lives of Black people.

Top 5 Character Attributes of President Donald Trump

It was true, but since the pandemic, the Trump administration has seen a net loss of about 200,000 manufacturing jobs, wiping out the past six years of growth, according to the Alliance for American Manufacturing. More than 900,000 manufacturing jobs were added between 2010 and 2016 during the Obama administration.

Potential Supreme Court Nominees

On September 9, 2020, Trump released a new list of 20 potential nominees to the Supreme Court.

Trump campaign legal adviser Jenna Ellis said in a press release, “President Trumps list of Supreme Court nominees shows once again his firm commitment to protecting our fundamental rights, including religious freedom and the right to life for every precious unborn child. Originalist judges are necessary to protect and preserve our constitutional republic, built on the truthful recognition that our rights are God-given, not government-given.”

Why China Wants Trump To Win

Four more years might present tantalizing opportunities for Beijing to expand its influence around East Asia and the world.

Like everyone else across the country and the world, Chinas leaders are likely watching the contentious presidential campaign unfolding in the United States and anxiously wondering what it means for them. After their four-year rumble with Donald Trump, the Chinese should be counting the months, weeks, days, and minutes to the November election, hoping a Democrat takes over the White House, right? Thats certainly what Trump believes. The Chinese, he tweeted, are desperate to have Sleepy Joe Biden win the presidential race so they can continue to rip-off the United States, as they have done for decades, until I came along!

Thats not necessarily true. From Beijings perspective, while a Democratic presidency may restore a more predictable form of American diplomacy, that may not best serve Chinese interests. In fact, four more years of Trumpthough likely packed with annoyances and disputesmight present tantalizing opportunities for China to expand its influence around East Asia and the world.

He has some gut feelings that China doesnt like, but he has gut feelings China does not really mind, Minxin Pei, a specialist in Chinese politics at Claremont McKenna College, told me. He does not really see China as an ideological adversary. Trump can be persuaded if the price is right.

Is Donald Trump Under Investigation

For almost the first time in his presidency, the answer appears to be no. The first two years of his administration were defined by the looming investigation of the special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, who in March 2019 wrapped up his report on Russian interference in the 2016 election. Mr. Mueller did not reach a conclusion on whether Mr. Trump illegally obstructed justice, but found no evidence of a criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Mr. Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives months after the Russia investigation concluded, for seeking to pressure Ukraine to smear his political rivals. In February, after five months of hearings, Mr. Trump was acquitted in the Senate, along party lines, of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
