New Englands line is a predictably scrappy, solid group that could be really good once right tackle Trent Brown returns from a Week 1 calf injury. His replacement, Justin Herron, has been the teams only real concern through three weeks. Mike Onwenu has been a pleasant surprise at right guard.

But will they be able to run the ball?

Patriots running back James White is likely out for the year. Might this be the week Rhamondre Stevenson climbs out of Belichicks doghouse after fumbling his first NFL carry? The Patriots might not have any other choice.

The offensive line will be tested against perhaps the best defensive front in football. Teams have basically given up on even trying to run against the Buccaneers, who rank third in efficiency and fourth in yards allowed. Vita Vea is a menace at the nose, William Gholston sets the edge, and Lavonte David cleans up the middle. One injury concern of note: Jason Pierre-Paul did not practice Wednesday.

Tom Brady rallied the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 19-17 victory over the Patriots on a rainy Sunday night in his return to New England, with Ryan Succop hitting the winning 48-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter.

Brady was 22 of 43 for 269 yards with no touchdowns, but engineered the fourth-quarter drive to beat his former team. Ronald Jones added an 8-yard scoring run for defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay .

Brady broke Drew Brees NFL career passing yardage record and became the fourth quarterback with victories against all 32 NFL teams, joining Brees, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning.

New England had a chance to win, but Nick Folks 56-yard field-goal try hit the left upright with with less than a minute to play. The Patriots are 1-3 for the first time since 2001.

Patriots rookie Mac Jones finished 31 of 40 for 275 yards and two touchdowns.

The Buccaneers were hurt by multiple mistakes on defense as well as spotty special teams play marked by poor punts, a missed early field goal and costly penalties.

But Tampa was able to come up with timely plays to stay in the game, including Antoine Winfield Jr. forcing a fumble by J.J. Taylor that was recovered by Richard Sherman to thwart a promising drive early in the third quarter.

The Patriots appeared to bench the second-year offensive lineman in the second half after having two holding penalties early.

Ted Karras came in, and the offense didnt seem to miss a beat.

Arians had been retired from coaching for a year, having spent the 2018 season in the broadcast booth. Wide receiver Antonio Brown returned to the team Thursday after a 10-day COVID-19 hiatus. He should help an offense that didnt play to its standards in a Week 3 loss to the Rams. The Buccaneers are tough to figure out because they have just so many weapons in the passing game. Brown, Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, and Rob Gronkowski all average 5 or more targets per game. Gronkowski, however, is not expected to play with a rib injury.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Were you not entertained? It took until the second half, but we finally got ourselves a game as Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded touchdowns with Mac Jones and the New England Patriots.

In the end, it all came down to a doink as the Bucs secured a 19-17 win and Brady joined Peyton Manning, Brett Favre and Drew Brees as the only starting quarterbacks to defeat all 32 current franchises. Brady also improved his career record against rookie QBs to 21-5, but now we’re just getting in the weeds.

The Patriots had a chance to win it with a 56-yard field goal, until Nick Folk’s attempt hit the left upright.

From the offensive line to the backs, New England couldnt get anything going on the ground. Tampa Bays front seven held Patriots backs to negative three yards on just six attempts.

New Englands strength was supposed to be their run game, but the Buccaneers were able to stifle their efforts.

You cant really blame the backs, however, as they are constantly being hit before the line of scrimmage. The blocking needs to be better if they want to have success.
