Donald Trump came into Tuesdays primaries on the heels of a dismal May 24 performance, when his endorsements in Georgia largely proved to be a flop.

This time around, he didnt have as much at stake: Trump didnt endorse in any heavily contested primaries, nor did he support any challengers to Republican incumbents. For the most part, the former president backed incumbents who were expected to easily dispatch little-known opponents and a few open-seat House candidates in California.

Among his endorsements this week: GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California.

Notably, Trump refrained from backing a primary challenger to California Rep. David Valadao, who was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach him last year.

Made the general election by finishing in first place.

He voted to overturn 2020 election results.

A Republican who resisted pressure from Donald Trump to help overturn the 2020 election has lost a vote to a candidate endorsed by the former president.

Rusty Bowers was hoping to fight for election to the Arizona state senate, but lost the party’s primary vote to David Farnsworth.

The staunch conservative also testified against Mr Trump to the committee investigating last year’s Capitol riot.

Republican voters elsewhere in the US also backed Trump-endorsed candidates.

Candidates were chosen in a number of states on Tuesday following primary elections that decide who will stand for the party in November’s mid-terms.

Those who have publicly supported Donald Trump and repeated his false claims about fraud and malpractice in the 2020 presidential election performed well.

It was a clear indication of Mr Trump’s continuing influence on the Republican Party and the enduring support for his claims about the election he lost to President Joe Biden.

Mr Trump, who has hinted publicly at potentially running for president again, has endorsed dozens of Republican candidates.

Mr Bowers, 69, gave emotional testimony to the committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol in which he said Mr Trump and his adviser Rudy Giuliani tried to push him to help overturn the election results.

Two Wins And A Loss In North Carolina

Representative Ted Budd won the Republican nomination for Senate, and Bo Hines, a 26-year-old political novice who enthralled Mr. Trump, was catapulted to victory in his primary for a House seat outside Raleigh.

But Representative Madison Cawthorn crumbled under the weight of repeated scandals and blunders. He was ousted in his primary, a stinging rejection of a Trump-endorsed candidate. Voters chose Chuck Edwards, a state senator.

Victories In Illinois With Outside Help

State Senator Darren Bailey, who got a last-minute endorsement from Mr. Trump, won the Republican primary for governor. Democratic spending, including by Gov. J.B. Pritzker, may have helped Mr. Bailey, whom Democrats saw as easier to beat in the general election.

In Maine, voters finalized a matchup between the states two most recent governors: incumbent Democratic Gov. Janet Mills and former Republican Gov. Paul LePage.

And while GOP Sen. Tim Scott and GOP Gov. Henry McMaster are both heavy favorites to win their respective elections in South Carolina in November, the primary to face McMaster was a bitter one between former Democratic Rep. Joe Cunningham, the nominee, and state Sen. Mia McLeod.

Donald J. Trumps endorsement of Leora Levy effectively transformed Connecticuts three-way Republican primary for U.S. Senate into a one-on-one contest between his chosen acolyte, Levy, and a non-believer, Themis Klarides.

On the ballot Tuesday are Klarides, a socially moderate former state House Republican leader who did not vote for Trumps reelection, and two Trump loyalists competing for the same conservative base, Levy and Peter Lumaj.

Donald Trumps pick to be the next governor of Wisconsin won his primary last night but the former president struck out, narrowly, in an attempt to take down the most powerful Republican legislator in the state.

While Adam Steen failed to defeat Wisconsin state Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, who won by a few percentage points, Trump picked candidates in a handful of other major races Tuesday as he continues stretching the power of his endorsement around the country.

He also avoided endorsing any candidates in Vermont and Minnesota, two states Biden won handily in 2020. Here are the Trump picks who won Tuesday night.

Trump-backed candidates win big in primary elections

Tuesday is primary day in Idaho, Kentucky, Oregon, North Carolina and Pennsylvania as Republican voters head to the polls to choose their nominees for key US House and Senate races in yet another test of former President Donald Trumps power and influence over the GOP.

More: Gop Rep Tom Rice Says Impeaching Trump Was ‘the Conservative Vote’

But finally, on Tuesday, Trump was able to handedly bump off one of the most vocal of that list, GOP Rep. Tom Rice of South Carolina, rendering him out of a job come November. Rice was one of 10 Republicans who voted for Trump’s impeachment, a “conservative vote” he told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl that he would make again in a heartbeat, even if it cost him his job. And lost his job he did, to MAGA-world challenger Russell Fry, who was quick to paint Rice as a traitor to his party. The demographic makeup of Rice’s district, toward the northern border of the state where voters trend far more conservative, may have also contributed to the massive backlash against him, pushing folks toward Fry’s direction.

Now, with newly-won swagger, Trump will undoubtedly charge on to try to defeat another Republican who supported impeachment, and maybe his biggest enemy yet, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney. The question remains: Can Trump’s lightning — and political luck — strike twice?

Nancy Mace’s tightrope walk pays off in Trump proxy war

Trump seems to be trying to save face somewhat, saying on Truth Social Tuesday night that Arrington was a “long shot” and Mace will “easily” be able to defeat a Democratic opponent come November.

Texas Special Election Shows Gops Latino Gains

A special election in South Texas to replace former Democratic Rep. Filemón Vela, who retired earlier this year to join a lobbying firm, wont have long-term impact by itself on the partisan split in the House, since the seat is disappearing soon due to redistricting. But the trends at play as Flores carried the district are a datapoint on the GOPs rapid improvement with Latino voters.

Biden carried the district by 4 points in 2020 down from double-digit margins for previous Democratic candidates. And Flores pushed the gains even farther in defeating Democrat Daniel Sanchez.

The seat was transformed during the redistricting process to be much bluer, with Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez jumping over from a neighboring district and running here for a full term in November.

But Tuesdays election will be under the old lines, in what could amount to an early warning sign for Democrats about the party losing support among Latino voters in the region. Both national Republicans and Democrats are spending money for a special election for a member that will ultimately only be seated for a handful of months.

Loser: Jaime Herrera Beutler

The Washington state Republican, one of 10 GOP House members who voted to impeach Trump after the January 6 Capitol attack, didnt have her primary on Tuesday. But she did concede defeat Tuesday night after a Trump-backed challenger solidified a narrow lead in last weeks primary.

Herrera Beutler was starting a sixth term as a member of Congress when she voted to impeach Trump, inciting the former presidents fury and a primary challenge from Joe Kent, a Trump-endorsed former Army Green Beret. He will now be the GOPs candidate in the states Third Congressional District, just north of Portland, Oregon.

With her primary loss, only one Republican who voted to impeach Trump appears likely to return to Congress, Rep. Dan Newhouse, of Washingtons Fourth Congressional District. Four decided not to run for reelection four others, including Michigan Rep. Peter Meijer last Tuesday, lost their primaries. Christian Paz

Donald Trump on Tuesday once again showcased his control over the GOP’s open primaries, as the former President’s chosen candidate won Wisconsin‘s Republican primary for governor over a rival backed by former Vice President Mike Pence and much of the party’s establishment in the battleground state.

In Minnesota, meanwhile, Rep. Ilhan Omar, a member of the progressive “squad,” survived a surprisingly close contest for her Minneapolis-based House seat.

In Vermont, state Senate President Pro Tempore Becca Balint is on a path to become the first woman to represent the state in Congress.

And in Connecticut, Gov. Ned Lamont and Sen. Richard Blumenthal got their GOP challengers in reelection races they’re expected to win in November.

Here are some of the big takeaways from Tuesday’s primaries:

Trump triumphs as Wisconsin’s GOP establishment falls

Former President Donald Trump again demonstrated his influence over the Republican Party on Tuesday, as the Trump-backed construction company owner Tim Michels defeated former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch in Wisconsin’s gubernatorial primary.

Michels’ win is the end of an era in Wisconsin: Kleefisch was backed by former Gov. Scott Walker, who built the political machine that won three governor’s races, including a recall election.

She was also endorsed by former Vice President Mike Pence, who has attempted in recent months to steer the GOP away from Trump’s election denialism.

With Trump On Sidelines Virginia Gop Set To Pick Midterm Nominees In Swing Districts

The U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Virginia voters will select GOP candidates Tuesday to run against incumbent Democrats as Republicans try to recapture seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Virginia electing a Republican governor in 2021 for the first time in more than a decade was one of the first major signs of how bad the political vibes were getting for Democrats.

This year, the Virginia GOP is trying to build on Gov. Glenn Youngkins upset victory by flipping a handful of Democratic-controlled congressional districts that could be some of the most hotly contested in the country.

On Tuesday, Republican primary voters will pick their nominees in the two districts expected to be the most competitive in November: the Virginia Beach-anchored, military-heavy 2nd District and the new-look 7th District, which shifted north from the Richmond suburbs and is now based mostly in Prince William, Stafford and Spotsylvania counties.

With inflation high and President Joe Bidens approval numbers low, Republicans see a chance to win back some or all of the three congressional seats they lost in the anti-Trump wave of 2018.

Without a major Trump angle, Tuesdays results will mostly be a test of whether Republican voters agree with GOP leaders and pundits about whos most electable in November or deliver a surprise by picking a lesser-known figure.

You cant read a lot into it, Fredericks said.

Former President Donald Trumps focus on two congressional races in South Carolina shows just how far hell go to get back at Republicans who he feels have spurned him.

GOP Reps. Nancy Mace and Tom Rice both blamed Trump for his role in perpetuating the events of Jan. 6. After the riots, Mace called out the then-president, saying he needed to get off Twitter to communicate peace, while Rice voted with nine other House Republicans to impeach Trump . Then, Trump endorsed challengers against both of them in primaries this year.

Mace survived, defeating Trump-backed Katie Arrington. But Rice cratered notching just a quarter of the vote on his way to primary defeat.

Rices loss was yet another example of Trumps taste for revenge against those who crossed him.

    Trumps Future: Nine Possibilities

As former President Donald Trumps second impeachment trial begins, it shines a light on a new reality: although its been nearly 100 days since Trump lost his re-election he is not going away, at least in the short term. What will become of Trump? Here are nine possible outcomes for Trumps futurethe first four possibilities keep him in the middle of national politics in the latter five, he would more likely fade away.

    1. Leading the Trumpublican faction of the GOP

Over the course of four years as president, Trump masterfully consolidated Republican voters into a cult of personality. His hardcore supporters were willing to believe anything that left his lips, regardless of evidence to the contrary. They were willing to put their own lives at risk as he huddled them together at rallies and mocked those taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They were willing to commit insurrection against their own government, all in his name and to support his lies about election malfeasance.

That non-trivial group of Republican and Republican-leaning voters is not going away, and they remain loyal not to the party but to Donald Trump. It remains to be seen exactly how large this group is, how much power they will wield in Republican primaries and whether a non-Trumpublican candidate can consolidate the remainder of the party.

    2. Uniting MAGA to form a third party
