Sending Trump To A Swing District
Political experts this week pointed out that Nueces County, where Trump is appearing, is an odd choice and why many Republicans in close races may not want to be anywhere near him at tonights rally.
Nueces County is as purple as you get in Texas politics of late. In 2016 the county narrowly went for Trump, but in 2018 Democrat Beto ORourke won there. Then in 2020 it swung back to Trump, narrowly.
And talk about competition for the crowds attention. When Trump takes the stage at 7 p.m., the Astros-Yankees game could be in 8th or 9th inning, the San Antonio Spurs will be late in their game and the Texas A& M football game will have just kicked off.
How Did Trump Do In Texas Nueces County Last Time
11:24 a.m. Trump is broadly popular in Texas. He comfortably won the state with a 9-point lead in 2016 and carried the state again in 2020 though with a smaller margin of about 5.8 percentage points.
The races were closer in Nueces County. Trump beat Hilary Clinton by about 1.5 percentage points in 2016, making Nueces the southernmost county he carried in Texas. In 2020, he beat Joe Biden by a wider margin of 2.9 percentage points.

Trump Ally Graham To Testify In Georgia Case
Meanwhile, Georgia’s Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is probing whether Trump’s call to Secretary of State Brad Raffenspergerin which he allegedly asked him to find enough votes to tilt the election in his favorviolated state law.
Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican and Trump ally, is seeking to avoid giving testimony in the case. Prosecutors are hoping to question him about a phone call to Raffensperger in which he allegedly asked about rejecting some state ballots to help Trump win.
A grand jury has subpoenaed him, though he has mounted a legal challenge. A Circuit Court of Appeals panel rejected the senator’s claim that he is immune from testifying this week. On Friday, Graham filed an emergency request to the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case.
Newsweek reached out to Trump’s office for comment.
Gov Greg Abbott Not Attending Rally
3:37 p.m. – Gov. Greg Abbott, whom Trump endorsed in the March primary, will not attend the Robstown event due to a out-of-state fundraising trip. The incumbent Republican governor, who is running for reelection against Democrat Beto O’Rourke, was in Corpus Christi on Thursday for an immigration-focused campaign event with a bipartisan group of county sheriffs.
Caller-Times reporter John C. Moritz covered the event.
Abbott is scheduled for an Oct. 27 rally at Brewster Street Icehouse in Corpus Christi.

Trump Wishes Ken Paxton Was His Ag
Trump said he wished Paxton had worked with him in the White House, saying Paxton would have figured out that voter fraud in about two minutes.I wish I had him as attorney general, Trump said.
Paxton’s staff spent 20,000 hours looking for voter fraud last year, focusing on the 2020 elections, and didn’t uncover anything beyond isolated incidents affecting a handful of votes in an election in which more than 11 million Texans cast ballots.
Nueces County Democratic Party Plans Counter Protest
12:34 p.m. – Nueces County Dem. Party Chair Rene Saenz said a counter protest will gather at a place yet to be determined on the fairgrounds. Their presence is key, he said, to get both sides of the story out. Saenz said Trumps visit has convinced him the former president will run in 2024.

Former President Donald Trump is holding a rally in Texas two days before early voting starts for the November election.
The rally will be Saturday in Robstown, outside Corpus Christi on the Gulf Coast. Republicans are targeting districts in the area as they try to take over South Texas congressional seats.
The rally will start at 7 p.m. at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds, according to a media advisory. Trump’s team announced Tuesday that additional speakers would include Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Attorney General Ken Paxton. Gov. Greg Abbott said he would not be able to attend due to an out-of-state fundraising trip.
The advisory said Trump would speak in support of his unprecedented effort to advance the MAGA agenda by energizing voters and highlighting the slate of 33-0 Trump Endorsed America First candidates in the Great State of Texas. The 33-0 figure refers to his endorsement record in the Texas primaries and runoff earlier this year, which included some incumbents who faced nominal or no opposition.
Among Trumps endorsees is Abbott who is fighting against Democrat Beto ORourke for a third term.
Trump Faces Ongoing Probe Into Classified Documents
Trump continues to face an ongoing Department of Justice investigation into whether he improperly stored classified documents at his Florida Mar-a-Lago residence. FBI agents raided the property in early August, taking more than 100 documents the DOJ says were improperly stored.
This week, Trump claimed clemency requests and some other documents related to his immigration policies should be sent back to him in a letter to special master Raymond Dearie, NBC News reported Friday. His lawyers said that they are personal records that belong to himnot the government.
Trump has dismissed the DOJ investigation as a “witch hunt” and has not been formally charged with a crime. Critics have accused him of leaving vulnerable documents potentially related to national security.

Trumps Next Stop On The 2022 Revenge Tour: Arizona
QUEEN CREEK, ArizonaWhen it came time for Karrin Taylor Robson to take questions at a campaign stop last Thursday, the crowd didnt waste a moment to confront her with the most uncomfortable issue in her bid to be Arizonas next governor.
What will you do, asked one woman in the front row, to secure our elections?
Nods and affirming noises rippled through the crowd of roughly 150 people, who had come to see Robson speak in this far-flung suburb about 40 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix.
So the one thing I think we can all agree on is, the wrong guy is in the White House. Do we all agree? Robson asked.
After the predictable response from this audience of Republican loyalists, Robson put forward a conspiratorial explanation of why the 2020 election was stacked against Donald Trumpthe media, big tech, COVID, the Democratsand explained what changes to election rules shed make if elected.
But what Robson omitted entirely in her 2020 postmortem were the most outlandish theories and falsehoods about the electionthe ideas that now dominate that grassroots of Trumps GOP and are animating the campaign of her Trump-endorsed rival for the GOP nomination, Kari Lake.
Asked by The Daily Beast what she made of Robsons answer, Peg Ward, a former corporate executive in the audience, had a succinct answer. She pivoted, she said.
You dont ever put red meat in front of the bull, Coughlin said. You don’t do that.

Trump To Hold Next Rally In Bunker
- Save this story for later.
- Save this story for later.
TULSA Stung by the paltry turnout at his Saturday-night rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Donald J. Trumps campaign has announced plans to hold his next rally in the bunker beneath the White House.
In announcing the rally, Brad Parscale, the chairman of Trumps reëlection campaign, denied that the choice of venue reflected a tepid level of enthusiasm to see the candidate speak.
The bunker holds forty people, Parscale said. That is a much larger seating capacity than Joe Bidens basement.
Despite the choice of such an intimate venue, however, Trump campaign sources are privately worried that they may have difficulty filling the bunker.
According to one source, Jared Kushner spent all of Sunday morning on the phone begging people to attend the bunker rally.
All of Jareds friends said theyre coming, so thats five seats right there, the source said.
Trump Rally Confirmed For Adams County
QUINCY – Former President Donald Trump will speak at a Save America rally at the Adams County fairgrounds on June 25 at 7 p.m., according to Quincy Mayor Mike Troup.
Trump will be at the event in support of Republican Congresswoman Mary Miller.
Miller is in a tight race for the Illinois 15th Congressional District against Rep. Rodney Davis . The downstate Republicans were drawn into the same district by Democratic state lawmakers during the redistricting process in Springfield.
In a release Thursday afternoon Congresswoman Mary Miller said she is excited to welcome President Trump to the 15th District, stating, Im honored President Trump is coming to the Quincy area to hold a rally after endorsing me over RINO Rodney Davis, who stabbed President Trump in the back by voting for the sham January 6th Commission, MIller said. Downstate Illinois misses President Trumps strong America First leadership, which delivered secure borders, a booming economy, and energy independence. I am Illinois conservative, America First voice in Congress, unlike RINO Rodney Davis who supports red flag gun confiscation and amnesty for illegal immigrants.
Trumps visit will come just three days before the June 28th Illinois primary election.
Organizers said tickets will be required to attend the event. Ticket holders will be allowed on the fairgrounds starting at 2 p.m., five hours before Trump is scheduled to speak.
Troup said there could be between 25,000 and 30,000 people at the rally.

- Midterm Data: Could the 2020 polling miss repeat itself? Will this election cycle really be different? Nate Cohn, The Timess chief political analyst, looks at the data in his new newsletter.
- Democrats Dilemma: The partys candidates have been trying to signal their independence from the White House, while not distancing themselves from President Bidens base or agenda.
In Wisconsin, Tim Michels, the Republican nominee for governor, erased from his campaign home page the fact that Mr. Trump had endorsed him but then restored it after the change was reported, saying it had been a mistake.
The optimal scenario for Republicans is for Trump to remain at arms length supportive, but not in ways that overshadow the candidate or the contrast, said Liam Donovan, a Republican strategist and a former top aide at the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Mr. Donovan, as well as consultants and staff members working for Trump-backed Senate candidates, said the former president could be most helpful, if he chose, by providing support from his powerful fund-raising machine.
A big part of the problem is that these nominees emerged from messy fields where the party has been slow to unify, Mr. Donovan said. But to fix what ails, what these G.O.P. candidates need isnt a Trump rally, its a MAGA money bomb.
Mr. Budowich added, His rallies, which serve as the most powerful political weapon in American politics, bring out new voters and invaluable media attention.
Former President Donald Trump Isnt Expected To Return To Some Key Battlegrounds As Other Surrogates Abound And His Rallies Dont Draw The Crowds He Used To Do
A report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last month stirred excitement among Donald Trumps fans in Georgia that the former president would return to the state for a rally to help his friend Herschel Walkers Senate bid.
It also set off alarm among Republican leadership in a state that Trump lost in 2020. Many were wary of reopening the old feud between Trump and Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, who is also on the ballot. Others were concerned that Trumps continued talk of rigged elections could depress turnout.
A subsequent phone call between Trumps team and the Walker campaign focused on the best time and place for a third Trump visit to Georgia this election cycle, according to three people familiar with the discussion who spoke on the condition of anonymity to reveal confidential discussions. While no final decision has been made, the proposed date came and went last month with no Trump event.
We arent going anywhere we are told they dont want us, a Trump adviser said. If youre trying to drive out independents and suburban moderate women, hes probably not your best option. But he can drive out the MAGA crowd, and if hes not involved, some of those people wont vote.
Trump spokesman Taylor Budowich said the former president is the partys foremost asset this cycle.
The party is deeply concerned and the consultants around the party are concerned about suppression, the person said.
Dylan Wells and Hannah Knowles contributed to this report.
