Jeep Patriot Air Conditioning Fuse

Don't Miss

Bad Evaporator Temperature Sensor

VATAWC 0055 Installing Freon/Refrigerant in my 2010 Jeep Patriot. Car’s Recharging Air Conditioner.

The evaporator temperature sensor detects and monitors the temperature of the evaporator coil in the AC system of Patriot. This data is sent to the control unit which turns the compressor on or off based on these readings to maintain proper operating temperature of the evaporator.

If the evaporator temperature sensor develops a defect, the compressor may not turn on, causing the AC to only blow hot air in your Patriot. Or, it may cause the compressor to run continuously and freeze up the evaporator coil resulting in poor cooling and reduced airflow.

Inspect Your Patriots Ac/serpentine Belt

As stated above, your Patriots AC compressor may be turned by the serpentine belt that turns all of the engine accessories. Or, it may be turned by an independent belt. If there are two belts, theyll both be attached at the crank pulley.

Inspect the belt to see if it is cracked or shiny. It may just be that the belt cant turn the compressor anymore. It could even be missing entirely without you noticing if it is an independent belt.

After inspecting the belt, there can only be two things left that could be happening:

1. The clutch is not getting a signal to turn on. This indicates some form of wiring problem.

-or-

2. The AC compressor is getting a command to turn on but is no longer able to, which would indicate that it needs replacing.

What If I Dont Have A Voltmeter

If you dont have a voltmeter to test your air conditioners fuses, you can always replace the fuses by going to a local hardware store and picking up the size you need. As aforementioned, this is typically the TR-type of fuse.

Replacing your fuses is a fairly simple process however, if you dont feel comfortable doing this, its highly recommended that you contact an air conditioning repair specialist for assistance.

To replace your AC units fuses, complete the following steps:

  • Some fuses are fully exposed and in the same area as the wiring, while other disconnects contain their fuses in the handle itself. If your disconnects are housed in the T handle, youll need to pull this out first to locate the fuses before proceeding to the next step.
  • In either instance, pull out the handle to stop the flow of power to the fuses while replacing them. Its important to note that this doesnt stop the flow of power to the disconnector fuses on the line side, so its best to shut down your breaker to your AC unit to ensure optimal safety.
  • Finally, remove the fuses by popping them out with your hands if theyre located in the handle or by grabbing them with a pair of pliers with insulated handles. Never use bare metal handles when working with electricity.

Questions About 2015 Jeep Patriot A/c Systems

    • How do I make my Patriot air conditioning colder? Here are a few quick ideas. Shut the passenger air vents and point the other vents directly toward you. Park your car in the shade and use a window sun blocker. Then visit Firestone Complete Auto Care for an A/C performance check and recharge.
    • Why is my Patriot A/C blowing hot air? If your carâs air conditioning isnât blowing cold air at all , you could have a clogged expansion valve, a faulty compressor clutch, a leak, or a malfunctioning fuse in the system.
    • What can cause an A/C system leak? To put it simply, age and moisture are some of the main causes of leaks in your A/C. Over time, rubber gaskets and seals can wear out, which pushes much-needed refrigerant out of your Patriotâs A/C system â and lets outside moisture get in, which can take a toll on internal A/C components.

2014 Jeep Patriot Ac Relay Location Gadisyuccavalley

Having a functional AC compressor relay is essential to air conditioner operation. While the blower motor will still circulate air in the cabin, that air will not be cold because the compressor isnt pressurizing refrigerant. This isnt critical for vehicle operation, but it does affect driver and passenger comfort and the ability to clear foggy windows. If the AC compressor relay has been diagnosed as faulty, have it replaced as soon as you can.

Jeep Patriot: Ac Compressor Not Turning On Diagnosis

No matter where you live if your Jeep Patriots AC compressor is not turning on, it can turn a pleasant commute into a nightmare .

The AC compressor pulley is always being turned by either the serpentine belt or a dedicated belt . It uses a clutch to grab the pulley and cycle coolant through your Patriots AC system.

If this clutch doesnt grab, the AC compressor will not turn on.

Before opening the hood to see if there is anything wrong with the AC compressor, start the Patriot and turn the AC off and back on a few times. Do it somewhere quiet.

If you hear a thunk or clunk noise after turning the AC on, the compressor is engaging. Something else is the problem. Theres most likely a leak, bad evaporator, or a bad compressor . If thats the case, jump to this article: Jeep Patriot AC Not Blowing Cold.

Heres how to about diagnosing why your AC is not turning on in your Jeep Patriot:

    Causes Of Compressor Failure

Insufficient lubricant: The compressor in Patriot needs lubrication to function properly and minimize mechanical wear by reducing friction. If there isnt enough oil added with the refrigerant or to the compressor itself if it was replaced, the internal components of the compressor will wear out and cease to function.

Too much oil: If there is excessive amount of oil added with the refrigerant, it can cause compressor performance issues which reduces cooling efficiency, and can also cause premature compressor failure.

Keep in mind, an AC compressor can fail without any apparent cause, especially in older vehicles or in vehicles that have racked up too many miles. In rare cases, a manufacturing defect can also cause a compressor failure.

How To Recharge Ac Refrigerant In Jeep Patriot

There are two ports in the air conditioning system of Patriot. One is labelled H for high-pressure and the other one is labelled L for low-pressure. You can recharge your AC through the low-pressure port with a do it yourself AC recharge kit.

  • Open the hood of your Patriot.
  • Check which type of refrigerant your vehicle uses. This information is typically located under the hood and/or in the owners manual.
  • Start the engine.
  • Turn on the AC and set it to the coldest setting, and the fan speed to maximum.
  • Remove the cap from the low pressure service port labelled L, and connect the AC recharge kit.Note: If the ports are not labelled, try connecting the recharge kit to both unlabeled ports on the AC hoses. The recharge kit will only properly connect to the low pressure port, and will not fit the high pressure port.
  • Shake the canister briefly and release the refrigerant into the system until the recommended pressure has been achieved.Note: See next section for recommended pressure values.
  • Clogged Cabin Air Filter

jeep patriot ac not working ac compressor not turning on

The pollen filter, also known as the cabin air filter or microfilter, is responsible for filtering the air that the passengers breathe in Jeep Patriot. A dirty filter causes the overall ventilation of the interior to deteriorate resulting in reduced cooling and air flow. It also puts unnecessary strain on the entire AC system which negatively impacts the fuel consumption.

There is no prescribed time for changing cabin air filter, but most manufacturers recommend a change after 10,000-20,000 miles. If you drive your vehicle in dusty or polluted environment, the filter can get dirty much sooner than manufacturers recommendation.

How To Tell If The Air Conditioning Fuse Is Blown On Your Ac Unit

When the summer heat is at its worst and you need your air conditioner the most, thats when youre most likely to experience a system breakdown. This is because AC systems rely on fuses to operate, which are more susceptible to blowing out when temperatures are particularly high.

Knowing when an air conditioner has a blown fuse is part of proper HVAC equipment ownership. By understanding why your AC system is malfunctioning, you can better prepare for your cooling service needs and avoid costly repairs in the future.

    Turn The Compressor By Hand

Your Patriots AC compressor should freely turn by hand when it is not engaged. Obviously, youd want to do this with the vehicle off. Itll often be located by electric fans. Even with the key off, treat them like they can still come on.

You dont want to turn the pulley where it is attached to the belt. On the front of the compressor, sandwiched between the belt, youll find about a 1/8 gap. That is the part that should be turning freely if the compressor is not engaged .

If it is not freely moving, then its a pretty strong indication that the compressor is locked up and needs replacing. On the other hand, if it is turning freely, we need to determine why its not activating.

Why Change The Air Conditioning Fuse On Jeep Patriot

.So lets begin our content on the location of the air conditioning fuse of your Jeep Patriot by the benefit of changing it. You may possibly feel like your fuse is blown but you are not sure. In actual fact, if your air conditioning does not work on Jeep Patriot anymore, if you have already had it recharged, examined for possible leaks in the system and if you have examined that the air conditioning compressor is functional, it is highly possible that the fuse is the cause. You should know that a fuse works as a safety device to prevent overvoltage on your Jeep Patriot . It will be a resistor, of a filament, more or less thick, which will let pass a particular tension and which will break if the tension is too strong. Hence the fact that they are transparent, you can check them and confirm that the filament is still intact with a very easy visual check. In general, you will want to change the air conditioning fuse of a Jeep Patriot when it doesnt work anymore for no apparent explanation .

    Bad Resistor Or Control Module

2007 Jeep Patriot Cooling Fan Fuses & Relays

The function of the blower motor resistor is to control the speed of the blower motor. When you increase or decrease the AC fan speed in your Patriot, the climate control unit signals the resistor module to increase or decrease the flow of electric current to the blower motor. If the resistor module develops a fault, it can cause the blower motor to stop working.

The resistor is typically located under the passenger side dashboard, near the blower motor.

Replacement Of The Internal Air Conditioning Fuses Of Your Jeep Patriot

.We will first concentrate on the internal fuses of your Jeep Patriots air-conditioning system. To do this you will have to go to the fuse box of your motor vehicle . If you cant locate it, take note that it is close to your steering wheel, you will find its exact location thanks to the manual of your Jeep Patriot.

    • Read the instruction manual on the cover of the fuse box to locate the air conditioning fuse of your Jeep Patriot , check all the fuses with the word air conditioning in their names.
    • Take out the air-conditioning fuse carefully with pliers and check the condition of the filament.
    • If one of them fails, change it with a new fuse . As a last solution, you can take your car to your auto technician so that he can take a closer check out the cause of your problem.
    • After you change the air conditioning fuse in your motor vehicle, reassemble and test your air conditioning.

    Bad Ac Pressure Switch

The AC pressure switch in Patriot detects and monitors the pressure of the refrigerant in the AC system. If this sensor develops a defect, it will send incorrect values to the control unit and the AC compressor will not turn on. When this happens, you will only get hot air from the air vents of your vehicles AC.

Bad AC pressure switch can be diagnosed with OBDII scanner. If you see any error code from P0530 to P0533 after connecting the diagnostic device to your Patriot, it indicates a problem with the AC pressure switch. Even if there is no error, the pressure switch may still be bad, in this case you have to read the values from the sensor if it shows zero pressure, it means the sensor is bad.

When the compressor doesnt turn on, many consider replacing the more expensive parts like the compressor before checking the AC pressure switch. So if youre facing a problem of compressor not turning on in your Patriot, you should first check if this little, inexpensive sensor is working properly.

Check Your Patriots Ac Wiring Harness

Being that the clutch compressor is just a few feet off of the road, it can accrue wiring damage over the years.

Inspect the harness to make sure that it doesnt have any opens or shorts. If it looks good, its time to move on to testing the relay and seeing if you can manually get the compressor to turn on.

The power going to the AC compressor relay is going to be fused, so check that fuse while youre at it as well. You can do this in under 2 minutes with a test light.
