Ogbah was limited in practice earlier in the week with a quad injury but practiced fully on Thursday, so all signs point to him being able to suit up in the season finale.

Heading to Miami for the final week of the regular season, a defensive showing that resembles the six road wins more closely than the Week 15 loss at Indianapolis would be a strong positive boost entering the postseason.

Though the Patriots had more success than the Dolphins last season, this is hardly the best team that New England has put forth. While they averaged 26.6 points per game last year , the offense took a serious dip away from Gillette Stadium .

The Miami Dolphins took down the New England Patriots 33-24 in Week 18 to secure their ninth win of the season and third place in the AFC East.
Despite losing seven straight games from Week 2 to Week 8, the Dolphins improved to 9-8 Sunday to secure their second straight winning season under head coach Brian Flores. New England finished 10-7 on the year and will now face either the Buffalo Bills or Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the playoffs.
Why The Patriots Lost
Bill Belichick highlighted this week that the Patriots have come into games flat this season and this game was no exception. They were shutout in the first quarter and allowed the Dolphins to jump out to a 17-0 leading before they were able to get on the board. At one point, the Dolphins had 10 first downs already under their belt with the Patriots only registering eight plays on offense. Even as the defense started to force a pair of three and outs in the first half following that initial scoring blitz, complimentary football was nonexistent as the offense also punted the ball away following those stops.
Defensively, the Patriots had no answer for the Dolphins rushing attack as they put up 195 yards on 4.5 yards per carry as a team. 12 of Miami’s 23 first downs came via the ground game.
There was also uncharacteristic play by New England terms of penalties. On the day, they were flagged eight times for 78 yards. While some of those calls were questionable, an illegal formation penalty called on Lawrence Guy on a fourth-and-1 punt attempt by the Dolphins extended the Miami drive and ultimately led to the team adding a field goal to its lead.

Poor Starts Are A Huge Issue
The Patriots were outscored 38-7 in the first quarter over their last four games. They trailed 14-0 at the end of the first quarter in two of those matchups — Week 15 vs. Colts and Week 18 vs. Dolphins.
The only game during that span in which New England had a lead after the first quarter was in Week 17 versus the Jaguars. The Patriots led 7-3 en route to a 50-10 victory. Aside from the Jaguars game, the early deficit was too much for the Patriots to overcome each time.
The Pats fell behind by two scores just nine minutes into Sunday’s game when Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard intercepted Patriots quarterback Mac Jonesand ran it back for a touchdown.

Bad starts are a huge concern for the Patriots entering the playoffs, whether they play the Bills or Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Wild Card Round. Each team has a star quarterback and an elite wide receiver as part of an explosive offense.

Injury Concerns Entering Playoffs
Starting left tackle Isaiah Wynn and rookie running back Rhamondre Stevenson both left the game in the first half due to injuries. Wynn never returned to the game. Stevenson did return.

Christian Barmore was shaken up in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter Sunday. He’s been on the injury report numerous times this season. The rookie defensive tackle has been a critical component of the team’s defense.

New England has done a pretty good job plugging holes caused by injuries to key players, but these are five key players. If any of them are less-than-100 percent or can’t play next weekend, it would make the Patriots’ already tough challenge of winning their Wild Card playoff game even more difficult.

Tua’s Td Pass Turnover By Howard Lift Dolphins Over Pats
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Xavien Howard was one of the NFL’s best players at causing turnovers in 2020. He was back at it Sunday to help the Dolphins preserve a victory to open this season.
”Every game I feel like I have to make something happen for the team and give the ball to the offense. My mindset was get the ball out,” said Howard, who led the league in interceptions in 2020. ”We needed it and it was crucial. So I made it happen.”
Tua Tagovailoa threw a go-ahead touchdown pass to Jaylen Waddle in the third quarter and Howard recovered the Damien Harris fumble with New England driving in the fourth to help the Miami Dolphins hold on for a 17-16 win over the Patriots on Sunday.
It was Miami’s second straight win over the Patriots. Tagovailoa also led the Dolphins to a victory in the second meeting between the teams last season.
Tagovailoa finished 16 of 27 for 202 yards, a touchdown and one interception, and also had a 3-yard TD run to lead a revamped offense that kept the Patriots’ rebuilt defense guessing, mixing in no-huddle and empty backfield formations. DeVante Parker caught four passes for 81 yards.
While the offense had its moments, including going 2 for 2 in the red zone, Tagovailoa said it must be better than 4 of 11 on third downs.
”I think the defense gave us a lot of opportunities and we just gotta make use of those,” Tagovailoa said.
”Definitely wasn’t good enough, starting with me,” Jones said. ”We lost, so it’s not good enough.”

We have two teams that are on polar opposite sides of playoff contention and I dont think the Dolphins have much left in the tank. Has Mac Jones Hit The Rookie Wall
Mac Jones had a solid rookie campaign overall, but he finished the regular season with several lackluster performances in December/January.
Perhaps the Alabama product has hit a rookie wall. He’s played 17 games with the Patriots, four more than he did for the Crimson Tide last season.
Jones threw six touchdowns with five interceptions over the final four games of the regular season. He also wasn’t as accurate as he showed through the first 13 games.
