How Many Miles Can A Jeep Patriot Last Are They Reliable

2007 Jeep Patriot

I was recently in the market for a new car, and I had my eye on a slick-looking Jeep Patriot. While I was excited to jump right into a new car, I just had to be sure that I was making a well thought out decision. So, after hours of research, what did I find out?

So, how many miles can a Jeep Patriot last? On average, owners report their Jeep Patriot living until about 150,000 miles with no issues. There is quite a bit of variation when comparing year to year models, though.

For example, it seems unanimous that the 2011 Jeep Patriot is the most unreliable car of the bunch. This is due predominately to engine problems. Owners have reported reoccurring problems such as trouble starting, engine seizing, and not shifting correctly. Its best to avoid this model if you are in the market for a Patriot.

  • The 2009 Jeep Patriot Receives High Marks On Safety From Federal And Private Agencies

Standard safety features abound on the 2009 Jeep Patriot, and crash-test scores are good.

The 2009 Jeep Patriot received four of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on front impact protection for the driver and passenger, as well as rollover resistance . The Jeep Patriot received five stars for side impact protection for both driver and rear passengers. From the insurance-affiliated IIHS, the Patriot received top Good ratings for frontal and side impact protection, but it achieved an Acceptable score in the seat-based rear-impact test.

According to Kelley Blue Book, standard safety features on every 2009 Jeep Patriot includes front disc and rear drum brakes with ABS, front and side-curtain airbags, and electronic stability and traction controls with rollover mitigation. Side airbags are optional.

How Capable Is The Jeep Patriot Off

Jeeps have a reputation for being an excellent off-road vehicle. The question is, though, where is the line drawn? Do all of Jeeps models perform well off-road? While the Jeep Patriot did get discontinued at the end of 2017, we still see many of them on the roads. Why? Well, for the 2017 model, in particular, it is a relatively reliable car that is very good in less-than-optimal conditions. The 2.5 Litre, 175 horsepower engine provides plenty of power to plow through snow, mud, or organic debris thats in its way.

There is an 8-inch clearance under the vehicle to make sure that its oversized tires can climb over any obstacle in its way, as long as you arent trying to move over giant rocks and boulders. On top of that, the Patriot has a high air intake, which gives this Jeep the ability to crawl through streams or shallow water bodies without flooding and causing damage. While the Patriots 2017 model doesnt feature all the earlier models bells and whistles, it is undoubtedly the most capable of off-roading and back-country situations.

If you often find yourself heading into the mountains or the woods for your weekend trips, the 2017 Jeep Patriot is a great option. If you find yourself needing an extremely long-lasting vehicle and dont need to take it off-road or through bad weather conditions, there might be a better option out there for you.

How To Check The Trans Fluid In A Jeep Patriot

Checking and changing the transmission fluid are among the many things that should be done when performing regular maintenance on your Jeep Patriot. Transmission fluid helps lubricate the transmission when idling and shifting gears. These shifts cause a tremendous amount of friction and pressure, so an adequate amount of clean lubricant is needed. Although the Jeep Patriots transmission system is sophisticated, checking the fluid level is a simple task and should be done periodically to ensure that the system remains protected.

    Step 1

Start the engine and allow the Jeep Patriot to idle for about five minutes. Make sure the transmission is in Park.

    Step 2

Pull the hood release handle to unlatch the hood. This is usually located near the steering column under the dashboard.

    Step 3

Open the Jeep Patriots hood. If it is not equipped with a pneumatic system that holds the hood up, prop it open with the hood stand.

    Step 4

Locate the transmission fluid dipstick near the back of the engine around the transmission. The dipstick is stamped or printed with Transmission Fluid or similar wording.

The 2009 Jeep Patriot Offers A Rugged Style With A Purposeful Interior

The 2009 Jeep Patriot is the Chrysler brand’s small crossover vehicle, mechanically similar to both the more softly styled Jeep Compass and the more carlike Dodge Caliber.

Comparing the Patriot to some of its competitors in the segment, Automobile Magazine states that the Jeep Patriot “looks far more like a tough-guy off-roader than its curvaceous urbanite rivals.” Kelley Blue Book refers to the 2009 Jeep Patriot’s styling with its square lines and boxy stance as one that “evoke the purpose-built style of the now-defunct Cherokee and, to a lesser degree, its Grand Cherokee successor.” While the Compass has rounded corners and a more carlike presence, the Jeep Patriot wears a boxier, utilitarian look. Motor Trend describes it as “more palatable Jeep styling” that is more rugged-looking and truer to the no-nonsense, trailblazing silhouette of the older Jeep models.

What Is The Value Of A 2007 Jeep Patriot

The value of a 2007 Jeep Patriot, or any vehicle, is determined by its age, mileage, condition, trim level and installed options. As a rough estimate, the trade-in value of a 2007 Jeep Patriot with no options and driven roughly 12,000 miles per year would be worth about $1,109 for one in “Clean” condition and about $1,813 if you’re selling it as a private party. What Is High Mileage For A Jeep Patriot

Some owners will report that their Patriot has lasted upward of 250,000 miles, while others will have damage beyond repair below the 100,000-mile mark. Some last longer than others, and it will of course, depend on how well you take care of the car.

With that said, though, both the 2016 and the 2017 Jeep Patriot models are ranked in the top 20 for reliability in their respective years. It seems as though Jeep took all of the previous years issues and tried their best to resolve them before discontinuing the Patriot line after 2017.

The Patriot is a compact crossover SUV, offering five doors to ensure you can get the most out of your car. The Patriot is the second cheapest model in Jeeps lineup, and as of 2017, you can be in the drivers seat for under $18,000. Not only is this model affordable off the lot, but it is also one of the cheapest cars to insure year after year. This vehicles efficiency is also quite impressive, giving you over 30 miles per gallon on the highway. That means you can drive over 400 highway miles before stopping for fuel.

We all know Jeeps reputation for being a versatile and rugged brand of vehicles, and the Patriot is no different. Whether you are heading across the country on long stretches of highway or through the backwood roads to get to your favorite hiking spots, you can be sure that the Patriot can do the job.

Another big selling point is for those who live in areas where it snows over the winter months. With the Jeep Patriots ability to switch between front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, we can maximize the ease and efficiency of driving. Fuel efficiency is undoubtedly better when driving in front-wheel drive, but for the days with a thick sheet of snow or ice on the ground, the Patriot can conquer it with ease.

The catalytic converter for your Patriots cost will vary by model year and engine size. But, as a rule catalytic converters are not cheap. Since it often requires welding to replace the catalytic converter, itll often mean a trip to the exhaust shop. Later model vehicles can cost over $1000, when its all said and done.

How Often Do I Need To Change Transmission Fluid On My Jeep

Most people understand how important it is to change the engine oil and filters on their jeep, but transmission fluid doesnt always come to mind. The question of how often to get a transmission flush depends on a variety of factors.

For a manual transmission, most manufacturers say you need to change the fluid every 30,000 60,000 miles.

    • Most people these days have an automatic transmission, and thats trickier to understand. Some vehicles may never have their transmission fluid changed, unless theres a leak or another problem. Other engines have a regular maintenance interval, just like engine oil or filters.

It is important to follow jeep guidelines on transmission maintenance. If you need to have the transmission rebuilt, that can run you up to $6,000 or more.

Low Transmission Fluid Signs: Jeep Patriot

  • Higher RPM at any given speed If your Patriots engine seems to be revving higher than it should be at any particular speed than it may very well be a symptom of low transmission fluid. It could also indicate that the torque converter is not locking up either. But if its the torque converter, itll only jump up a few hundred RPM s.
  • Engine sounds different uphill If you are going up a steep grade, youll find that the fluid may not be able to be picked up from the pan. The motor will then rev higher as the transmission starves for fluid.
  • High transmission temperature An automatic transmission needs its fluid not just for converting mechanical energy to hydraulic in the torque converter. It also needs it for cooling purposes. So, if you happen to have a transmission temperature gauge than you can take this as a warning. Your transmission fluid is probably low.
  • Put car into gear, but its not going anywhere Often, if you let a vehicle sit for a while, itll cough up transmission fluid. So, it may have been full the last time you drove your Patriot, but low next time you go to use it. Youll go to drive it somewhere and itll either not move at all or itll move only a little. This can often be caused by a loose torque converter. Did you happen to notice a vibration at highway speed? Thats a telltale sign of a loose converter.

    Jeep Patriot Transmission Flush

A transmission flush is commonly twice the price of a fluid change due to the deposit of time the service takes and the fact that the flush not only replaces the fluid in the pan but also removes fluid from the cooler lines and other parts of your transmission. A Jeep Patriot transmission flush also uses about 10 quarts of fluid to entirely clean and flush out the system.
