Is Trump The Worst President

Attacked A Republican For Having A Brother That Doesn’t Exist

Kinzinger: Trump was the ‘worst president America has ever had’

As his options for overturning the election started to run dry, Trump began lashing out at Republicans, specifically targeting Brad Raffensperger the secretary of state for Georgia. In a strange moment, Trump tweeted a conspiracy theory that Raffensperger’s brother “works for China” and that they “definitely don’t want ‘Trump.'” The only problem is that Raffensperger doesn’t have a brother at all.

Column: Is Biden The Next Fdr That Depends On What You Think About The New Deal

Biden is being compared to Franklin D. Roosevelt, but the resemblance is complicated.

As for the three bottom-dwellers, their rankings testify to the enduring impact of the slavery era. Pierce, who served in 1853-1857, signed the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which launched a round of bloody conflict between pro-slavery and abolitionist forces, and oversaw enforcement of the Fugitive Slave Act, perhaps the most detested law in American history.

Pierce was followed by Buchanan, whose maladroit administration set the stage for the Civil War. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded the assassinated Lincoln, launched Reconstruction, one of the most profoundly mismanaged government projects ever.

Another pocket of consistency is the span of 35 years from FDR through Lyndon B. Johnson. The five presidents in that time frame have all landed within the top 11 in every survey.

That tells me thats seen by historians as a kind of golden age for the presidency, says Richard Norton Smith, a biographer of Hoover, Washington and Gerald Ford who is one of the four advisors to the C-SPAN project, along with Douglas Brinkley of Rice University, Edna Greene Medford of Howard University and Amity Shlaes, a biographer of Calvin Coolidge and author of conservative histories of the Great Depression and Lyndon B. Johnsons Great Society program.

When He Cut Corporate Tax To Its Lowest Rate Since 1939

If you are interested in things like corporate tax then you might not be surprised to learn that Trump has opted to favour the biggest companies in the world rather than the everyday blue-collar worker that he pretends to appeal to.

On December 22 2017 he signed in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which reduced taxes to somewhere between 35 and 21 per cent, reportedly the lowest the rate had been since 1939.

Trump even falsely bragged about this being the biggest tax cut in history, saying in We have the biggest tax cut in history, bigger than the Reagan tax cut. Bigger than any tax cut. It was actually only the eighth biggest in US history.

Regardless, under Trump, the rich get richer and the poor stay the same.

When He Appointed An Anti

Who is the best person to head up family planning funding allocations for low-income communities, aka ensuring people with wombs have a right to choose whether they give birth or not?

According to Donald Trump, its Teresa Manning, a loud anti-abortion advocate and birth control sceptic.

Manning was appointed deputy assistant secretary for population affairs in 2017, where she oversaw Title X funding — money for contraceptive and sexual health services.

Her previous experience in the field came from stints at two large anti-abortion groups.

Eventually, Manning resigned in 2018, with her successor Valerie Huber being a a staunch advocate of abstinence-only programs.

Just the person for the job then.

When He Appointed Ben Carson A Neurosurgeon Secretary Of Housing And Development

Survey of Experts Says Trump Is the Worst President Ever

During the 2015 race to become the Republican nominee, Ben Carson stood out.

Sadly it wasnt for his incisive political nous but instead because he kept saying really, really strange things.

It got to the point where people were surprised to discover the man had actually qualified and practised as a world-renowned neurosurgeon.

So when Trump was elected, it came as an unwelcome surprise to discover Carson was being put in charge of a vital department, as secretary of housing development, with absolutely zero experience in the area.

Since then, Carsons been accused of trying to destroy affordable housing during his four years in government.

When The Trump Hotel Organisation Received $600000 For Hosting An Event For Kuwait

Trump apparently never divested from his business interests which means when an event held by Kuwait to celebrate their national day was held at Washingtons Trump International, there were questions raised.

Like whether the sitting president would see any of the reported $60,000 fee paid by Kuwait to host the event there.

And whether Trumps solution which is donating all profits from foreign government payments made to his hotels to the United States Treasury would really prevent any conflict of interest.

Hmm…

Former President Donald Trump has ended up among the bottom four in a ranking of Americas commanders in chief.

A number of historians were consulted for the C-SPAN list ranking everyone who has served in the top spot for the last 232 years since George Washington took office in 1789. The list left out current President Joe Biden who is only six months into his term.

Mr Trump was ranked the lowest of all presidents who were in office during the last 150 years and the fourth worst overall. The list is the fourth iteration of the rankings by C-SPAN and is based on judgements by 142 historians and professional observers.

Mr Trump is considered the worst president since just after the Civil War, according to the group. But he still continues to hold a vice-like grip on the Republican Party and would be the overwhelming favourite if he chooses to enter the race for the 2024 GOP nomination.

At the other end of the list, Barack Obama jumped two spots in the rankings, going from 12th best to 10th. Ronald Reagan snagged the number nine spot, Bill Clinton came in at 19, George HW Bush at 21, and George W Bush at 29.

Don’t Miss: What Happens If The Republicans Win

Experts Rank The Best Us Presidents Of All Time

Since George Washington was sworn in as the countrys first president in 1789, his presidential successors have made many integral and difficult decisions to help shape this country. Civil and international wars, economic crises, and deep-rooted bigotry are just a few major installments our presidents have had to tackle. Its common to debate the efficacy, personalities, and politics of these office-holders during their terms, and opinions run far and wide many years later when analyzing past performance.

The expectations of the president have evolved over time. Jeremi Suri of the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs asserts in his book, The Impossible Presidency, that the White House has progressively taken on such infeasible demandsparticularly in the most recent 24-hour news cyclethat the president cannot possibly please everyone. Drawing upon recent disenchantment with presidents, Suri discusses the limitations inherent in the day-to-day details and duties of the office we often dont recognize the near-impossible task of leaders meeting the big-picture goals theyd set out to conquer on the campaign trail.

Despite these increasingly impossible expectations, some presidents have certainly made more of a mark than others. To show you how they line up, Stacker drew on C-SPANs most recent June 2021 ranking of 44 U.S. presidents.

Lincoln Steady At The Top Buchanan Ranked Lowest

Trump Ranks Among The Worst Presidents In History, According To Survey

Abraham Lincoln has been ranked at the top of the list in each of the four surveys. George Washington, Franklin Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt have also been steadily among the top five. Dwight Eisenhower was ranked fifth this year and in 2017.

The lowest ranking president is James Buchanan, Lincoln’s predecessor, whose divisive tenure helped precipitate the Civil War.

Presidential historian Richard Norton Smith, an adviser to the survey, called the stability at the top and bottom of the list notable.

“By contrast, the living presidents seem much more likely to fluctuate,” he said. “It’s almost as if there was a boomerang effect where historians go overboard a bit when presidents leave office and they are at the nadir of their partisan reputation, and then they graduate to a less political status.”

The category that has seen the greatest change in assessments over the past two decades is the one focused on the pursuit of equal justice, a subject of increasing scrutiny by historians and others. On that measure, the standings of Ulysses S. Grant and Calvin Coolidge have most improved, while those of Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe and Nixon have most declined.

When He Removed Protection Status From 59000 Haitians Forcing Them To Return To Disaster

In November 2017, Trump ended a humanitarian programme that had allowed 59,000 Haitians to reside and work in the U.S, as the country still tries to recover from 2010s devastating earthquake, which ripped through its social fabric.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere money sent back home from ex-pats is a lifeline.

Worse still, in 2020, the forced deportations of Haitians continued during the pandemic, despite human rights activists warning that Trump was essentially exporting coronavirus to a nation that would not be able to cope with an outbreak.

When He Attacked Former Prisoner Of War John Mccain As A Loser

There was no love lost between late Republican Senator John McCain and Donald Trump.

But Trump certainly got in some low blows against his rival.

Upon McCains death in 2018, from a brain tumour, it was reported by witnesses that Trump was angered by his funeral being officially commemorated.

“Were not going to support that losers funeral, witnesses claimed the president said.

However, Trump then denied hed ever called McCain a loser.

The only problem was that footage from Trumps 2015 campaign run shows him clearly slamming McCain as just that.

When He Tried To Stop Transgender Students From Using School Bathrooms In Line With Their Gender

5 of President Trumps Worst Gaffes

In February 2017, Trump decided to go after one of the most marginalised groups possible by removing protections for trans students which allowed them to use bathrooms corroborating with their gender identity.

The harm the policy could cause was so evident that even education secretary Betsy DeVos opposed the move because of the effect it would have on trans students.

Trump went ahead with it anyway.

Tried To Take Credit For The Covid Vaccine

Just days after he lost the election, news of a successful coronavirus vaccine was announced. The Trump administration was quick to claim a victory over the pandemic and falsely attributed Operation Warp Speed with being instrumental in the vaccination. In a similar move, on 11th November Trump did a tone-deaf tweet about how well the stock market was doing and that the ‘vaccine coming soon.’ In comparison to the more reserved statement from the incoming Biden administration, Trump’s tweet looked insincere at best.

Column: Trump Is Gone But California Is Still Fighting The Anti

As laws allowing anti-transgender bias spread, a California response comes under attack.

But the reputations of many other presidents have experienced major shifts during the two decades of the survey. The biggest gain belongs to Ulysses S. Grant, whose ranking has risen from No. 33 to No. 20 over the course of four surveys the biggest decline to Andrew Jackson, who has fallen from No. 13 to No. 22.

You can explain all that through the prism of race, Smith says. The trend has been developing for years, but it has lately reached its maturity. Grants image, formerly that of an individual in over his head among a platoon of corrupt relatives and camp followers, is now that of the last president until the late 20th century to send federal troops into the South to protect the interests of Black Americans.

A similar reconsideration has driven Wilsons ranking down from No. 6 to No. 13. The drag on his reputation is visible in the category of equal justice for all, in which he has plummeted from No. 20 to No. 37.

Wilson used to be thought of as a beacon of Democratic Party progressivism a model for the young FDR, who served him as an assistant secretary of the Navy thanks to such achievements as the establishment of the eight-hour workday, the appointment of Louis Brandeis to the Supreme Court, and the passage of the 19th Amendment legalizing womens suffrage.

Delayed Signing The Covid Relief Bill

Towards the end of December, Trump belated signed a $900bn Covid relief bill into law, after millions of Americans had already lost their unemployment benefits. Although the bill had been delayed for months thanks to disagreements between Democrats and Republicans, Trump had initially refused to sign the bill calling it “wasteful spending” and actually wanted the stimulus checks to be increased from $600 to $2000, which we can probably all agree is a good thing. However, the delay put many unemployed Americans in desperate situations as was exemplified by the replies to this tweet by journalist Dan Rather.

I am thinking of all those desperate for extended unemployment benefits tonight. Heartbreaking. The abject cruelty, https://t.co/yHV3Yq1twj Dan Rather 1609038547

When He Separated Migrant Children From Their Parents

Biden To Trump: ‘You’re The Worst President America Has Ever Had’ | NBC News

Of the many scandalous things that Trump has done in his presidency, the separation of children from their parents at his controversial detention facilities at the US/Mexico border was probably the worst.

Evidence had emerged of migrant children literally being placed in cages at the facility, something which Trump tried to blame Barack Obama for. In June 2019, Trump official Marsha Brown even tried to argue that said children didnt need to be safe and sanitary.

On Cnn Rep Adam Kinzinger Says Trump Was The Worst President The United States Of America Ever Had

WASHINGTON, DC – MAY 12: Rep. Adam Kinzinger talks to reporters follow a House Republican … conference meeting in the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center on May 12, 2021 in Washington, DC. GOP members decided to remove Conference Chair Liz Cheney from her leadership position after she become a target for former President Donald Trump and his followers in the House as she has continually expressed the need for the Republican Party to separate themselves from Trump over his role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

In an interview Monday morning on CNNs New Day, Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger was asked by co-host John Berman what he will tell his newborn son about Donald Trump. I will tell him was the worst president the United States of America ever had, Kinzinger answered. He was a liar and a charlatan. And he was a man with a more fragile ego than anybody Ive ever met.

Rep. Kinzinger, who along with Rep. Liz Cheney are the only Republicans on the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, went on to say that Trump walks around like the tough guy, but hes the one who gets more wounded and sad than anybody I know.

Kinzinger told CNN that when his son is older and learning history in school, he wanted to be able to tell him the story of January 6and his role in investigating that day. Thats going to be something in five or ten years thats going to be hard to explain if youre not on the side of truth.

Trump Will Be Remembered As One Of The Worst Us Presidents Nearly Half Of Americans Say

As President Donald Trump prepares to leave the White House, 47 percent of Americans say he will be remembered as one of the worst presidents in American history, according to the latest PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll.

Chart by Megan McGrew/PBS NewsHour

Sixteen percent of Americans overall, including a third of Republicans, think Trump has been one of the countrys best presidents, and roughly a third of Americans 38 percent approve of his performance over his tenure.

At Trumps inauguration in January 2017, he described a United States that he said was besieged with crime and gangs and drugs and littered with rusted-out factories, while vowing to put an end to American carnage and put the nation first. Now, as the country prepares to usher in President-elect Joe Bidens presidency, the Capitol is being guarded by more than 20,000 National Guard troops after a deadly attack by Trumps supporters, the U.S. has lost roughly 400,000 lives to the coronavirus, due in part to a haphazard pandemic response, and the countrys economy has been battered in the fallout. Presidential historian Jeffrey Engel said history will remember Trump as a person who focused primarily on himself and left carnage in his wake.
