Fox News Defends Calling Arizona For Biden After Pushback From Trump Team

Despite a successful decade as politics editor at the Fox News Channel, I got canned after very vocal and very online viewers including the then-president of the United States became furious when our Decision Desk was the first to project that Joe Biden would win the former GOP stronghold of Arizona in 2020.

The call was the handwriting on the wall for Trumps chances, and it delighted Democrats almost as much as it infuriated MAGA land. Regardless of who won, we were proud to have beaten the competition yet again and defended the title network promos had given us as the best-in-class Decision Desk.

But even in the four years since the previous presidential election, Fox viewers had become even more accustomed to flattery and less willing to hear news that challenged their expectations. Me serving up green beans to viewers who had been spoon-fed ice cream sundaes for years came as a terrible shock to their systems.

When I went on-air in 2020 to defend the Decision Desks call that Joe Biden would win Arizona, I was supremely confident. The Decision Desk team that director Arnon Mishkin had built was the best in the business. And we had better survey data than the competition, thanks to our partnership with the Associated Press and the National Opinion Research Center.

Were all losers in this one.

Donald Trump Reported As *BACK* On Two Major Social Media Platforms ...

Tonight, President Donald Trump will be taking over the airwaves to deliver a presidential address about the ongoing government shutdown, now in its third week, as well as what he described as the Humanitarian and National Security crisis on our Southern border. After some back and forth on Monday, most networks chose to air Trumps speech, but their decision prompted sharp criticism from the left. The Democratic response to Trumps speech announcement was anything but positive, with Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer demanding that their partybe given equal airtime to respond to Trumps statements of malice and misinformation. According to Variety, NBC, Fox, CBS, and ABC will be broadcasting the Democratic response after Trump concludes.

If you were hoping to spend your Tuesday evening watching black-ish, Ellens Game of Games, The Gifted, or anything on a broadcast network, youll be sorely disappointed. NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, and more will be preempting their regularly scheduled programming in order to air Trumps speech tonight, so you could say that Trump is causing a TV shutdown in addition to a government shutdown. But what if youre not near a TV? Heres how to find a live stream of Trumps primetime address online.

Roy Moore Sexual Misconduct Report Controversy

After The Washington Post reported in November 2017 allegations that Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore had made unwanted sexual advances toward teenagers when he was in his thirties, OANN “became a source of both positive coverage and stories that could cast doubt on his accusers.” In November 2017, OANN aired a segment citing a false rumor by an anonymous Twitter account that The Washington Post had offered $1,000 to Roy Moore’s accusers. OANN described the tweet as a “report” and described the tweeter as a “former Secret Service agent and Navy veteran”. The Twitter source had a history of tweeting falsehoods and conspiracy theories the Twitter account had also made repeated and inconsistent lies about its identity, including appropriating the identity of a Navy serviceman who died in 2007. After it was revealed that the story was a hoax, OANN did not retract its report.

During his Senate campaign, Roy Moore cited OANN when he defended himself against the accusations, including an OANN story that alleged his “Accusers Have Ties to Drug Dealers & Washington Post“.

Trumps Save America Rally In Nebraska Draws Thousands

GREENWOOD, Neb. Former President Donald Trump spoke at his Save America rally Sunday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood.

Trumps rally was in support of Nebraska gubernatorial candidate Charles Herbster.

Hope to see you at the I-80 Speedway today for the Save America Rally! Doors open at 12:00PM

Charles W. Herbster May 1, 2022

The I-80 Speedway in Greenwood is about 36 miles southwest of Omaha.

The rally was originally scheduled for Friday, April 29, but was delayed due to severe weather. Supporters started lining up at 10 a.m. Friday, some of them opting to camp out at the site overnight Thursday.

I hope its not fake news that we had to make this decision, Herbster told the crowd already gathered for the event.

Thousands came out for the rescheduled rally on Sunday, and chanted USA as the former President took the stage.

An hour into making remarks, Trump mentioned why he was there to support Charles Herbster. He invited Herbster on stage with him.

I think Charles is going to do very well, and if he does, youll be very happy and youre gonna have an even more prosperous state, weve made it very prosperous, and I really think hes going to do just a fantastic job and if I didnt feel that, I wouldnt be here, Trump said.

The rally comes shortly after Herbstere was accused of sexual misconduct toward eight women, including Republican state senator Julie Slama.

Trump said Herbster has been put through the grinder unfairly.

One America News Was Established As A Separate Herring Entity In 2013 To Be A Conservative Voice In Broadcasting

CBS anchor ripped for ‘dishonest’ tweet on Trump raid

The channel was formally launched at the 2013 Conservative Political Action Conference, which is an annual gathering of conservative voters and figures. Charles Herring told the Daily Beast just before the announcement that he believed “it is getting really hard to find just the reliable, credible, fact-based news with substance.”

Herring added that the cable channel would include “the second component is to provide a platform where more voices can be heard, voices that are ignored, libertarian and conservative voices.”

The tagline “Your Nation, Your News,” preceded the network, which Herring described as an answer to their view that Fox News, which was founded in 1996, was not conservative enough.

From the beginning, the network heralded opinion hosts like Tea-Party-tangent figure Rick Amato and Graham Ledger, who was formerly an anchor at Wealth TV, according to the Daily Beast.

Trump Sues Cnn For Defamation

ATLANTA, Ga. Former President Donald Trump is suing CNN for defamation and asking for compensatory damages in excess of $75,000 and punitive damages of $475 million, according to a lawsuit filed Monday.

He is claiming that the cable news giant has harmed his reputation with “false, defamatory, and inflammatory mischaracterizations of him” and that CNN’s conduct “is intended to interfere with political career.”

In particular, Trump argues that he’s entitled to hundreds of millions of dollars in punitive damages because of CNN’s use of the term the “Big Lie” to describe Trump’s “stated concerns about the integrity of the election process for the 2020 presidential election.” Trump’s lawyers say that the “Big Lie” “is a direct reference to a tactic employed by Adolf Hitler and appearing in Hitler’s “Mein Kampf.”

“‘If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it,'” Trump’s lawyers stated, noting it was used by Hitler to generate hatred against Jews and to justify their genocide.

The lawsuit says, “CNN’s campaign of dissuasion in the form of libel and slander against the has only escalated in recent months as CNN fears will run for president in 2024.”

CNN had no comment.

The case has been assigned to Trump-appointed Judge Raaj Singhal, in the Southern District of Florida.

Alongside Local And National News Stories The Network’s Signature Structure Lies In Its Fiery Opinion Shows

The opinion anchor formula is most similar to that of its right-leaning predecessor Fox News, but can be compared to big names who enjoy their own time slots on networks like CNN and MSNBC, but leadership has been careful to draw a line between these shows and the network’s coverage as a whole.

Herring told the San Diego Union-Tribune in 2019 that “the political talk shows lean to the right, no doubt about it,” meaning The Daily Ledger and Tipping Point with Liz Wheeler. However, he told the outlet that the rest of the 20 hours of the network’s broadcasting are straightforward news.

“We’re a no-fluff, very fast-paced live news service meant to inform,” Charles Herring told the Washington Post in 2017. “News anchors are not allowed to express opinions. They simply deliver the news and we leave it up to the viewers to decide.”

America’s biggest satellite television provider has said it will cut the pro-Trump news channel One America News Network from its service, dealing a severe blow to one of the former president’s most stalwart cheerleaders.

DirecTV, a distributor with about 15 million subscribers that is 70 per cent owned by the US telecoms giant AT& T, announced on Friday that it would not renew its contract with OANN when the current one expires. following a routine internal review.

The decision could spell financial ruin for OANN, which gets about 90 per cent of its revenue from DirecTV according to court papers. One lawyer for OANN said in 2020 that Herring Networks “would go out of business tomorrow” if dropped by DirecTV.

It is a victory for campaign groups such as the NAACP and the left-leaning Media Matters for America, which have been demanding AT& T cut OANN off due to its role in spreading Mr Trump’s “Big Lie” that the 2020 election result was fraudulent.

NAACP president Derrick Johnson hailed DirecTV’s decision as a win for “the future of democracy”, saying that OANN only seeks to create further division.

Before One America News Network host Dan Ball finished an interview with guest Jim Jordan this past week, he asked the Ohio Republican congressman for a favor.

Please put some pressure on AT& T and DirecTV for us, said Ball, whose Real America airs nightly on the right-wing cable channel. OAN would love to continue broadcasting on that platform and we know for a fact it is all political behind the scenes on why theyre doing that to us.

Earlier in the week, Ball solicited viewers to send him dirt on William E. Kennard, chairman of of the board at DirecTV parent AT& T, including any evidence of marital infidelity. OANs 80-year-old founder, tech entrepreneur Robert Herring, also went on camera to plead with viewers to ask other cable and satellite providers in their areas to add the channel to their lineups.

The desperate calls for help which would be considered unseemly on a traditional cable news outlet follow DirecTVs Jan. 15 announcement that it will drop San Diego-based OAN from its service in April. DirecTV, which AT& T spun off last summer, accounts for nearly half of the 35 million homes that can receive OAN on cable or satellite TV. The channel is not broadly distributed enough to be measured by Nielsen.

Progressive groups, which have lobbied companies to drop OAN, lauded DirecTVs decision.

Trump Has In Turn Touted The Network By Tweeting Out Quotes From Reports He Likes As He Does With Fox News Thereby Boosting The Networks Name Recognition As A Conservative Power Player

Herring told the Post in 2017 that Its not our familys mission to determine the news.

However, the network appeared to broadcast exaggerated and false stories throughout its reporting, which became more noticeable as Trump ramped up his public support while in office.

Part of his parroting the network has resulted in him flatly tweeting conspiracy theories that had been reported as fact by OAN. One such example came in April 2019, when Trump tweeted an OAN headline repeating a claim by Larry Johnson, a former CIA officer featured on the network who Vox reported has been known to traffic in baseless conspiracy theories about Democrats.

Donald Trump Sues Cnn For Defamation

Former president uses lawsuit to try and get more money from supporters

Former President Donald Trump, who has a reputation for being litigious, is litigating again. He said he has filed suit against CNN for defaming and slandering my name.

Trump does not like the characterization of his unsubstantiated election-fraud claims as the big lie, although that term has become one in fairly common parlance, used by numerous news outlets to describe his ongoing attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

But Trump has long had a particular axe to grind with CNN which used to be helmed by Trumps former NBC boss, Jeff Zucker and continues to wield this weapon to try and raise money.

Announcing the BREAKING news of his lawsuit in an email solicitation for money, Trump said, Theyve called me a LIAR, and so far, Ive been proven RIGHT about EVERYTHING, the latter statement likely safe as puffery, which is something that no reasonable person would conclude is a serious claim.

Trump asked his supporters to rush money to show they stand with him and his lawsuit.

That email followed one sent Monday in which Trump asked for a donation in exchange for becoming one of his Speech Defenders, defending the former president, he said, from Big Tech and its media puppets for mercilessly censoring him. The email showed an official Trump Free Speech Defenders badge , but it was not clear if a real version was a premium for handing over the money.

What The Ratings Show

This is a ‘huge victory’ for Donald Trump: Attorney

While Newsmax is still relatively small, this is the most robust right-wing TV challenge to Fox that I have ever seen. Over the summer, when I started to keep an eye on Newsmaxs Nielsen ratings, the channel was averaging about 25,000 viewers at any given time a tiny number by any TV news standard. As the election was approaching, the audience ticked up, but it was still just a fly on the Fox elephants back. In the final week of October, Newsmax was averaging just 65,000 viewers at any given time.

Then came the election. Newsmax averaged 182,000 viewers during the election week that ended on Sunday. And it is growing even more this week. On Monday the channel averaged 347,000 viewers. On Tuesday, 437,000 viewers. Evening shows like Spicer & Co and Greg Kelly Reports are reaching 700,000 and 800,000 viewers. These shows struggled to hit 100,000 before the election! Something has clearly changed.

There are two theories: First, that Foxs early projection about Biden winning Arizona enraged Trump loyalists, causing some to flip over to Newsmax, at least temporarily. Second, that Foxs portrayal of Biden as president-elect caused even more angst, and sending even more viewers in Newsmaxs direction.

Over the weekend Newsmax pointedly said it had not called the race which was a meaningless claim since the channel doesnt have a decision desk. But the channels hosts keep repeating this claim anyway, and it is sticking.
