New England Patriots Giants Game

Notes On The Quarterback Position Battle

New England Patriots vs. New York Giants | Preseason Week 3 2021 NFL Game Highlights

Newton had a less-than-ideal performance, finishing the day throwing 2 of 5 for 10 yards and an interception during two drives. The 32-year-olds interception wasnt entirely on him Giants linebacker Blake Martinez made the play of the game.

HOW DID HE GET THIS BALL!? take over!

As Patriots Wires Henry McKenna stated, the team giving Newton limited snaps was likely an indicator that he will be the starter during Week 1.

It looks like Cam Newton’s preseason snap count will be 39. That is a very small sample size if they’re evaluating him against Mac Jones. Perhaps it indicates the Patriots have made up their mind on Newton.

QB1 for Week 1?

Jones went through more adversity than he did in the first two games, but he pulled away with a solid outing. The No. 15 pick finished the game throwing 10 of 14 for 156 yards and one touchdown. Similar to the first couple games, he looked extremely comfortable and made adjustments in the pocket that were veteran-like.

Jones was sacked four times and lost 20 yards, but he continued to get back up with confidence and show his resiliency. Although he may not get the starting role for Week 1 Jones will be ready for his moment to shine when the opportunity comes.

Daniel Jones Makes His First Appearance Of The Preseason

The Patriots and Giants put a bow on the preseason on Sunday night with New England getting the better of New York at MetLife Stadium, 22-20. If the pecking order in this game was any indication, Cam Newton will likely be the team’s starter to begin the regular season. He started and played the entire first quarter behind the starting offensive line and completed two of his five throws for 10 yards and an interception. While those numbers aren’t anything to write home about, this interception was more of a credit to Giants linebacker Blake Martinez, who was able to muscle the ball away from Jakobi Meyers.

Meanwhile, Mac Jones came in behind Newton, to start the second quarter. The start to his night was also a bit choppy but settled down to begin the second half, leading the Patriots offense on a six-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that culminated in a 17-yard strike to receiver Isaiah Zuber. He finished his night completing 10 of 14 for 156 yards and a touchdown.

From here, the Giants will prepare for their regular-season opener against Teddy Bridgewater and the Denver Broncos. Meanwhile, the Patriots will head back to Foxborough and await the Miami Dolphins in Week 1.

New York Giants Vs New England Patriots

The Patriots have been the most dominant NFL team of the 21st century. Since 2000, the Pats have won the AFC Championship seven times and have won the Super Bowl five times. Tom Brady, who has been the Patriots quarterback since 2000, has made his way into the record books through a number of impressive feats: Brady has more career wins than any quarterback, he has the most playoff touchdown passes, and he has more Super Bowl wins than any other QB.

If the Patriots are the NFLs super team, then the New York Giants are their Kryptonite. Tom Brady has only lost in two of his seven Super Bowl appearances, and both of his losses were to the Giants. New York has been quarterbacked by Eli Manning since 2004. The former first overall pick was the MVP in both of the Giants Super Bowl victories over New England. Manning and the Giants are usually contenders in the NFC East, but they seem to play on another level when they face the Patriots.

After a long offseason following the Patriots 7-9 year in 2020, the Miami Dolphins are next up in a home matchup. New Englands roster has vastly improved and the Henry-Smith tight end duo will finally be on the field. While itll likely be Newton in Week 1 the Patriots have two weeks to figure out which quarterback theyd like to hit the field.

The New England Patriots 2021 preseason is now a thing of the past. Following two days of joint practices with their opponent earlier in the week, the Pats concluded the three-game exhibition slate with a 22-20 victory over the New York Giants at MetLIfe Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Here are some of the highlights from the Patriots third preseason matchup with New York:

Why The Patriots Won

Tom Brady had an off night with the exception of a few downfield throws and the short stuff , but he’s looked off at times throughout the year. The Patriots defense and special teams are so good it doesn’t even matter. New England intercepted Giants quarterback Daniel Jones three times and forced a fumble that was returned for a score. The Patriots only scored seven points off those turnovers, but two of those interceptions were in Giants territory. The special teams got New England on the board when Brandon Bolden pushed the Giants’ Nate Stupar back into a Riley Dixon punt and Chase Winovich returned it for a six-yard touchdown late in the first quarter in a game they never trailed.

7 35

On December 29, 2007, during the final week of the 2007 season, the New England Patriots defeated the New York Giants, 3835, at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In what became a preview of Super Bowl XLII, the game was a close comeback win for the Patriots, giving them the first undefeated regular season since the 1972 Miami Dolphins and the only undefeated regular season since the league expanded to 16 games.

While the game was originally notable for its television coverage, the teams would later meet in Super Bowl XLII, in which the Giants won 1714, ending the Patriots’ hopes of a perfect season.

Why The Giants Lost

Daniel Jones didn’t have starting running back Saquon Barkley, starting tight end Evan Engram, starting wide receiver Sterling Shepard and No. 2 running back Wayne Gallman going into this one. The lack of productive skill players was too much for the Giants’ rookie quarterback to overcome, as he made plenty of mistakes with three interceptions. Jones threw one pass off his back foot where he was moving to his left in an attempt to throw the ball away that led to a Duron Harmon interception with New York trailing 7-0 in the second quarter. He also had a bad read that led to an easy Stephon Gilmore interception as the Giants trailed 21-14 early in the third quarter. The Giants’ defense did their best to keep the team in the game, but Jones’s poor decisions and lack of offensive playmakers just wasn’t enough to pull off the upset.

Patriots vs. Giants Highlights | NFL 2018 Preseason Week 4

This is the final game for Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to assess quarterbacks Cam Newton and Mac Jones.

Both QBs have impressed during the preseason, and should get one more chance to prove they deserve the starting role in 2021. Belichick has not announced who will start the matchup, and it’s not guaranteed the veteran Newton will play at all.

Effect Of Yankeesred Sox Rivalry

Because the teams were from New York City and Boston, which are approximately four and a half hours apart by car, the Super Bowl echoed the fierce rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball, games of which are often televised by Fox. Both teams’ fans wore Yankees and Red Sox hats and showed off Fenway Park and Mickey Mantle T-shirts. Patriots fans said that they had no natural hatred for the Giants. Many old-time New Englanders, in fact, grew up rooting for the Giants before Boston got its AFL franchise in 1960, and are more accustomed to rooting against the Jets. Giants fans, however, discussed their great hatred for the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. Many Giants fans also wore hats and shirts of the New York Mets and the New York Rangers as part of discussing their hatred for the Eagles, and due to their hatred of the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Flyers.

Before the game, Patriots fans said they wanted to continue the trademark “Yankees Suck!” chant, which began after they won Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002 , while Giants fans wanted revenge for 2004, when the Red Sox came back from a 30 deficit to beat the Yankees in the ALCS en route to winning the World Series.

New York Giants Preview

The New York Giants are set to finally unleash their starters who sat out the preseason, on Sunday afternoon. Giants head coach Joe Judge told the media this week that his starters will play a ‘minimum’ of one half against the Patriots.

Star running back Saquon Barkley, who is still recovering from a serious knee injury, will not play, nor will veteran tight end Kyle Rudolph, though.

The New England Patriots will travel to the Meadowlands this weekend, looking to complete a three-game sweep of the NFC East, in their preseason finale with the New York Giants.

The last few games have been kind to the Patriots, who were able to pull away from the Washington Football Team in week one by a score of 22-13, before absolutely trouncing the Philadelphia Eagles by way of a 35-0 rout last Thursday. Now they head to Bill Belichicks old stomping grounds, accompanied by old friend Joe Judge and his team who spent the last week in New England practicing with the Patriots. Close quarters can breed resentment, much like it did with Cam Newton and KVon Wallace last week, making this tilt a touch more intriguing.

Super Bowl XLII: ‘Helmet Catch’ game Patriots vs. Giants highlights

Though Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would be non-committal on the subject after the game, the teams actions certainly seem to point toward Newton taking the first snap under center against Miami on September 12. Though he saw limited action on Sunday, Newton started his third straight preseason game of 2021. In his two drives, Newton completed 2-of-5 passes for 10 yards with an interception. However, his statistics would not tell the entire story. In fact, the pass on which Newton was picked was arguably his best throw of the night. The Pats incumbent quarterback threw a back-shoulder dart, intended for receiver Jakobi Meyers. Unfortunately, Giants linebacker Blake Martinez made a great play on the ball, ripping it directly from Meyers hands.

Case Keenum and KhaDarel Hodge spend a lot of time practicing together and have developed chemistry.

They put it to use Sunday.

Keenum showed why Cleveland invested in him to back up Baker Mayfield, throwing a 7-yard touchdown pass to Hodge while leading the Browns to a 17-13 win over the New York Giants in an exhibition game.

Keenum connected with Hodge to end Clevelands opening possession. The veteran QB finished 9 of 12 for 74 yards with an interception while playing most of the first half.

Case makes things a lot easier, said Hodge, a special teams standout who is trying to earn a roster spot among Clevelands talented receivers. He can talk about coverages. He can talk about how to set up a route or what you do in certain coverage or how to run a certain route in certain coverages and hes a great guy.

He just brings a lot to the game.

The Browns rested Mayfield, running back Nick Chubb, All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett and most of their starters for the second straight week.
