Why Latino Voters Political Shifts Could Decide 2022s Key Races | WSJ

Being a polar opposite of CNN, Fox always showed clear support towards Republican ideologies. Their channel seemed to be more towards the conservative side. They also attempted to showcase the actions of Donald Trump in a more positive light.

This news outlet too mentioned the other party more frequently on their channel, mostly to discredit or disqualify their actions. But one stark difference between the two networks was noticed in terms of the guests they invited to their shows.

While CNN, as mentioned above, pursued guests of both political affiliations, Fox News was skewed towards Republican Speakers and mostly invited those whose voice mirrored the ideologies of this party.

Wsj: Republicans Have A Plan To Fight Biden

President Bidens has no plan to address inflation, and his current proposals will make inflation even worse. If fighting inflation is Democrats top priority, they should stop offering partisan gimmicks and work with Republicans to get the economy back on track. As the Wall Street Journal reported:

Key Excerpts:

  • The Biden Administration has offered no real solutionsjust more Washington spending and higher taxes on Main Street businesses that will fuel higher prices in the future, said Rep. Kevin Brady , the top Republican on the Ways and Means Committee.
  • Republicans have focused on inflation, which hit 8.6 percent in May for its highest level since 1981, as Democrats greatest vulnerability this fall. They have argued that the Biden Administrations policies, including its push to enact a $1.9 trillion pandemic aid package in early 2021, have helped fuel price increases.

Note: This claim is supported by a San Francisco Federal Reserve analysis showing that the U.S. is leading the world on inflation due in part to President Bidens stimulus.

  • The House outline includes policies that Republicans have advocated before, including rescinding unused federal spending, extending expiring tax cuts, increasing energy production and removing some regulations..

Does where you get your news determine what news you get and how its spun? The mainstream media would like you to believe otherwise. But as a close reader of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, Ive wondered a lot lately whether the owners political sentiments are increasingly spilling from their editorial pages onto their supposedly objective news pages.

The most glaring example of this appeared yesterday in the top stories of the nations two most respected newspapers. Each purported to be informing readers of a troubling trend in big-money politics.

Declared the New York Times across the top of Page One:

Campaigns Big Spender. Public-Employees Union Now Leads in Independent Election Outlays

Perhaps its pure coincidence that a little over a week before readers go to the polls to decide the fate of Congress, the liberal Times and conservative Journal led with stories that just happen to paint their owners political foes as buying the election.

More disconcerting to those who look to the papers for supposedly unbiased news: The “fact” at the core of each story is at odds with the “fact” at the core of the other.

A page-one graphic in the Times indicates that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the nations top non-party spender, having burned through $21.1 million in the latest two-year election cycle. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce ranks fourth overall, outspent only by three political party committees, states the Times.

Democrats Or Republicans: Who’s Better For Wall Street

Contrary to popular belief and applied assumptions, Democrats are the historical victors to the claim ‘better for the stock market’.

Since 1929, both parties have held the presidency for approximately 40 years each. According to The New York Times and data from Bloomberg, during this period the consolidated returns for the S& P under Republican rule give a gain of only 0.4%. If you exclude the 30s crash under Hoover, Republican reign produces a gain of 4.7%, still far below the compounded rate of 8.9% produced by their Democratic counterparts. Over that time, a theoretical $10,000 investment in the S& P over Democratic rule would have grown to over $300,000. Under Republican rule, the same $10,000 investment would be just over $51,000 today…and putting Hoover back in the mix dwindles your return leaving you with only $11,733.

Some will point out that there are countless factors in the production of market returns and the validity of such data are nominal at best. While this is understood, no one should discount 40 years of consistent historical data.

The research takes new light when running the same test against GDP. A similar pattern emerges as Democratic presidents produced a 5.4% GDP growth, contrasted by the Republicans’ 1.6%.

The irony in all of this is that it may be the myth that Republicans are better for the market that causes Democratic linked market gains to be so much greater.

Is The Journal A Conservative Paper

The WSJ, a newspaper owned by News Corp, is considered the most reputable news organization globally.

It is consistently ranked as the top newspaper in the US and was once the most influential paper on global markets.

Its no secret that the Wall Street Journal is conservative-leaning. That said, they do provide excellent news coverage.

The opinions and views of the writers, who happen to be political hacks, have a solid rightward slant.

That can be seen in their news and opinion articles almost always attack Democratic politicians and legislation.

Whats Wrong With Wills Analysis

How Presidential Debates Transformed Over Time | WSJ

The WSJ then goes on to cite WILLs deeply flawed estimate of CTCLs effects on Wisconsins election results in an earlier, self-published study. The editors note: A nonprofit tied to Mark Zuckerberg gave $10 million to help Wisconsin elections, mostly in five cities, a skewed distribution that WILL finds troubling. A statistical analysis suggests it lifted Mr. Bidens turnout by 8,000.

The fundamental problem with WILLs quantitative analysis is that it is entirely based on the assumption that any anomalies in Wisconsin were randomly distributed. They therefore derive their estimates by treating all counties in Wisconsin as if they were all equally affected by CTCL spending, when we know a priori that any such anomalies were limited to a very small set of Wisconsins counties, and were the result of deliberate selection of election offices to be heavily funded by the data analysts who determined where big CTCL money would go.

WILLs estimate of the impact of CTCL activity on Wisconsins vote total is therefore based on an inappropriate methodology. It gives rise to the astonishing claim that In those cities , President Biden received approximately 41 more votes on average.

These two counties alone were responsible for more than 15 times Bidens margin of victory in Wisconsin, which means Trump won the vote in non-CTCL funded counties by well more than 300,000 votes.

About Wall Street Journal

The Journal is a news source well-known for having excellent business-oriented content. It has a reputation for being the newspaper of record and has been around since 1889.

The Wall Street Journal started as a weekly publication focusing on New York financial news.

It was founded in 1889 by Dow Jones and Charles Bergstresser, two former reporters at the New York Tribune, who were concerned about a few business tycoons power over Wall Street.

The two men were the first to use a printing press instead of handwriting articles, quickly producing high-quality newspapers. This innovation led to its success and allowed it to expand rapidly.

The Wall Street Journal is one of the first and oldest newspapers in the United States. As a leading publication, its digital presence is top-notch, and it ranks as one of the most popular news sites on the web.

They have a daily print audience of 4.3 million readers, which is more than any other US newspaper by far. Their online presence is just as impressive, and their website receives over 50 million unique visitors per month.

The WSJ website includes a variety of resources for digital marketers, including their video channel, which offers up news-related videos from all over the globe 24/7.

The Journals video channel comprises different categories that feature videos about business, economics, lifestyle, technology, and other topics.

Wall Street Journal Warns Republicans: Trump Wont Win Another Election

Half of Republicans want Trump to remain as head of their party while half of American voters want him banished from politics

In the aftermath of Donald Trumps second acquittal in an impeachment trial, his supporters celebrated confirmed dominance of the Republican party. But as they did so an influential voice warned: Mr Trump may run again, but he wont win another national election.

The Wall Street Journal also said moves by Trump other than a run for the presidential nomination in 2024, including a revenge campaign tour or third-party run, would only divide the centre-right and elect Democrats.

No one so much as Democrats wishes for that analysis to be true: that if Trump insists on remaining a loud voice in US politics, he will succeed only in electing more Democrats.

But the fantasy of Trumps summary departure from the national political stage is to be guarded against, many warn and the notion that he cannot win the White House again in 2024 has been rejected on both the left and the right.

Trump could win again because it is always a choice between two candidates, tweeted the conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, in reply to the Journal editorial.

Many Republicans, most notably minority leader Mitch McConnell, excoriated Trumps behaviour but said they voted to acquit because the trial was unconstitutional. Scholars dispute that, and the Senate voted twice to proceed.

Results Of The Survey: The Republicans

According to the results of this survey, it was seen that 57% of the adults who were loyal supporters of the Republican Party blindly trusted Fox News when it came to consuming political news. Some, approximately 37% of these supporters, also showed their reliability on other sources such as the Wall Street Journal.

Another surprising observation from the survey was that the Republican supporters hugely followed whatever was recommended by President Donald Trump. This was proven when he suggested the One America News Network as a trustworthy alternative to Fox News, and 24% of the Republican supporters started tuning into this channel.

Although the One America News Network is infamous for circulating misinformation frequently, a considerable portion of Republican supporters trusted this channel over other sources of News like The New York Times.

On the other hand, they seem to have a massive animosity towards CNN, with a staggering 70% of the viewers supporting the Republican Party terming their content as Fake News.

This dislike and distrust towards CNN were also displayed by the partys then-leader Donald Trump, who tweeted several times against the channel stating how they have continuously tried to tarnish his administration.

A 2014 Pew Research Center survey, Where Audiences Fit on the Political Spectrum, found the Wall Street Journal’s audience is “roughly evenly distributed across the ideological spectrum,” with 21% of consumers being mostly liberal, 24% being of mixed political persuasion, and 22% being mostly conservative.

Is The Journal Biased Towards Republicans

The Journal has long been a conservative paper, even though they endorse Republican and Democratic candidates. Their conservative bias is often attributed to the editorial page, separate from the news pages.

The majority of the articles are reported with no apparent bias, and readers are left to interpret the facts for themselves.

In February 2016, The Journal endorsed Donald Trump for president, but not without controversy due to his statements on immigration and women.

Conservatives felt betrayed by the endorsement, while liberals were ecstatic that their views were finally being heard in such a widely read publication.

Editorial Page And Political Stance

The Journal won its first two Pulitzer Prizes for editorial writing in 1947 and 1953. Subsequent Pulitzer Prizes have been awarded for editorial writing to Robert L. Bartley in 1980 and Joseph Rago in 2011 for criticism to Manuela Hoelterhoff in 1983 and Joe Morgenstern in 2005 and for commentary to Vermont Royster in 1984, Paul Gigot in 2000, Dorothy Rabinowitz in 2001, Bret Stephens in 2013, and Peggy Noonan in 2017.

The Journal describes the history of its editorials:

We speak for free markets and free people, the principles, if you will, marked in the watershed year of 1776 by Thomas Jefferson‘s and Adam Smith‘s “Wealth of Nations.” So over the past century and into the next, the Journal stands for free trade and sound money against confiscatory taxation and the ukases of kings and other collectivists and for individual autonomy against dictators, bullies and even the tempers of momentary majorities. If these principles sound unexceptionable in theory, applying them to current issues is often unfashionable and controversial.

WSJ Editorial Board

Its historical position was much the same. As former editor William H. Grimes wrote in 1951:

Two summaries published in 1995 by the progressive blog Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, and in 1996 by the Columbia Journalism Review criticized the Journal‘s editorial page for inaccuracy during the 1980s and 1990s.

What News Sources Are Left

There is no completely clear answer to this question because there is no one exact methodology to measure and rate the partisan bias of news sources.

Here are a couple of resources that can help:

  • AllSidesAll Sides is a news website that presents multiple sources side by side in order to provide the full scope of news reporting.

The Allsides Bias Ratings page allows you to filter a list of news sources by bias .

AllSides uses a patented bias rating system to classify news sources as left, center, or right leaning. Components of the rating system include crowd-sourcing, surveys, internal research, and use of third party sources such as Wikipedia and research conducted by Groseclose and Milyo at UCLA. Note that while the Groseclose & Milyo results are popular, the methodology it is not without critique.

Note that AllSides does periodically revisit classifications for particular sources and their ratings may change over time. In some instances, the News and Opinion sections of a specific news outlet may be rated separately .

A report based on a 2014 survey shows which news sources are used and considered trustworthy based on individual’s political values . Note that this report measures the political leanings of the audience rather than the source itself.
