When Republicans Attack ‘cancel Culture’ What Does It Mean
Motivator for the midterms?
The fight over Republicans’ rebranding of critical race theory will likely continue to be a heated issue ahead of next year’s midterm elections. AlthoughNovember 2022 seems a long way away,Christine Matthews, president of Bellwether Research and a public opinion pollster, says pushback to anti-racism teaching is exactly the kind of issue that could maintain traction among certain voters.
“I think it’s just one more addition to the culture war that the Republicans really want to fight and it’s what they want to make the 2022 midterms about,” she said.
Matthews noted that Biden’s approval ratings, in the mid-50s, are significantly higher than Trump’s were throughout his term in office, “so Republicans are wanting to make this about othering the Democrats and making them seem as extreme and threatening to white culture as possible.”
“If Republicans can make feel threatened and their place in society threatened in terms of white culture and political correctness and cancel culture, that’s a visceral and emotional issue, and I do think it could impact turnout.”
These issues could be used to galvanize conservative voters and increase their numbers at the polls.
“We have seen evidence that the Republican base is responding much more to threats on cultural issues, even to some degree more than economic issues,” Matthews said.
But Rep. Donalds said the Republican Party doesn’t need to rally the base to get it to show up to vote.

However, Republicans could also be very wrong. Many of the 40 Republican congressional seats Democrats flipped nationally to gain control of the House of Representatives were just as dishonestly gerrymandered to ensure the election of Republicans. Strong Democratic candidates and outrage over Republican corruption still wiped out double digit Republican advantages. Now, Wisconsin Republicans are openly increasing that outrage in advance of what, for decent Americans, could be the most publicly infuriating presidential reelection campaign in the nations history.
Particularly appalling were the changes Republicans were hellbent on preventing Evers and Kaul from making to improve lives in Wisconsin. The number one issue that got Evers and Kaulas well as many Democrats across the countryelected was promising to stop the relentless Republican attempts to destroy affordable health care, including government subsidies to lower cost and guaranteed coverage of pre-existing conditions. Republicans proved theyre still completely out of touch with voters on the issue by preventing Evers and Kaul from ending state participation in yet another Republican lawsuit to destroy health care for millions of Americans.

They go further than merely believing the 2020 election was stolen, a nearly unanimous view among the bunch. Over 90 percent oppose making it easier for people to vote; roughly 70 percent would support a hypothetical third term for Trump .
The MAGA movement, Blum and Parker write, is a clear and present danger to American democracy.
2) Republicans are embracing violence
The ultimate expression of anti-democratic politics is resorting to violence. More than twice as many Republicans as Democrats nearly two in five Republicans said in a January poll that force could be justified against their opponents.
It would be easy to dismiss this kind of finding as meaningless were it not for the January 6 attack on Capitol Hill and the survey was conducted about three weeks after the attack. Republicans recently saw what political violence in the United States looked like, and a large fraction of the party faithful seemed comfortable with more of it.
These attitudes are linked to the party elites rhetoric: The more party leaders like Trump attack the democratic political system as rigged against them, the more Republicans will believe it and conclude that extreme measures are justifiable. A separate study found that Republicans who believe Democrats cheated in the election were far likelier to endorse post-election violence.

Men Older Partisans Most Likely To View The Other Party Very Coldly
In both parties, there are gender, age and educational differences in very cold ratings of members of the opposing party.
Men in both parties are more likely than women to give colder ratings to the members of the other party. About two-thirds of Republican and Democratic men give the other party a very cold rating.
Similarly, in both parties, younger adults are less likely than older people to give highly negative ratings to the members of the opposing party.
Yet the education differences in these attitudes differ among Republicans and Democrats. Nearly two-thirds of Democrats with at least a four-year college degree give Republicans a very cold rating. That compares with 51% of Democrats who have not attended college. The pattern is reversed among Republicans: 52% of Republicans with a college degree give Democrats a very cold rating, compared with 65% of those with no college experience.
Leaners Are Much Less Warm To Their Own Party Than Are Partisans
Compared with those who identify with one of the political parties, those who lean toward a party are considerably less likely to view members of their own party warmly. However, they are only modestly less likely to give a cold rating to the opposing party.
While about eight-in-ten of those who identify with a party say they have warm feelings toward the members of their own party, only about half of partisan leaners say the same.
Among Republicans leaners, 46% rate Republicans warmly, while about as many Democratic leaners rate Democrats warmly.
However, majorities of partisan leaners and those who identify with a party have negative opinions of members of the opposing party. About eight-in-ten partisan identifiers have a cold view of the other party compared with about seven-in-ten leaners .

No Matter What Democrats Will Never Be Happy
Thats a massive disparity.
You may think that this has something to do with Trump, and youre right because it definitely doesbut hes not the only factor. This same question was asked in 2016 when Obama was still president, and the results speak for themselves.
Among Democrats in 2016, the number of people proud to be an American was only 14% HIGHER then than it is now.
What does that tell us?
What does that say about the Liberal ideology?
It doesnt take a professional statistician to figure out that these people just dont like this country, regardless of whos running it.
Gallup chalked up their numbers to Trump though, saying, Politics appears to be a factor. Left-leaning groups antipathy toward Donald Trump and their belief that other countries look unfavorably on the president are likely factors in their decline in patriotism, particularly the sharp drops in the past year.
Well, we can tell you this without a shadow of a doubt: if your mental fortitude is so weak that youd let one person in the White House affect your pride in your country, then your priorities are severely screwed up.

We’re Less Far Apart Politically Than We Think Why Can’t We All Get Along
Partisans on both sides of the aisle significantly overestimate the extent of extremism in the opposing party. The more partisan the thinker, the more distorted the other side appears. And when we see the opposition as extremists, we fear them. Our tribal thinking prepares us for battle.
What’s the solution? More information? More political engagement? More education?
Surely more information leads to better judgment. But social scientists at the international initiative More in Common find that having more information from the news media is associated with a less accurate understanding of political opponents. Part of the problem appears to be the political biases of media sources themselves. Of all the various news media examined, only the traditional TV networks, ABC, NBC, and CBS, are associated with a better understanding of political views.
This discrepancy may be a result of the lack of political diversity among professors and administrators on campus. As political scientist Sam Abrams found, the average left to right ratio of professors nationwide is 6 to 1 and the ratio of student-facing administrators is 12 to 1. Democrats who have few or no Republican friends see the other side as more extreme than do those with more politically diverse friends. And the more educated Democrats are, the less likely they are to have friends who don’t share their political beliefs.

How Much Damage Have Republicans Done In The States
Turns out making cuts to public services to fit an ideology of small government and traditionalism is just not very popular.

The 2018 election marked at least a temporary end to Republicans rise to power in many states. Before their losses in that election, Republicans had full control of 26 states, giving them a sustained opportunity to transform American subnational government.
Liberals certainly feared the worst from this Republican grip on the states. Dark portraits of the Koch brothers network and the American Legislative Exchange Council suggested that Republicans were in a position to fundamentally reorient states to scale back public services, serve corporations and the rich, and impose a conservative social agenda. Democrats, from this perspective, would need years, if not decades, to reverse the trend.
The Republican Party still controls many more state governments and legislative chambers than Democrats nationwide. But the fact is, the Republican results at the state level have not been very impressive. Republican-controlled state governments largely failed to enact policies that advance conservative goals. They have been effective at staying in power but have not altered the reach of government or its socio-economic impact.

Cuomos controversies regarding sexual harassment and nursing homes deaths were far from his first abuses of power. In fact, his administration has a long history of it, ranging from interfering with ethics commissions, to financial corruption.
In July 2013, Cuomo formed the Moreland Commission to investigate corruption in New Yorks government. At first it was a success, giving Cuomo good PR. Yet as it went on there were rumors that, contrary to his claim that Anything they want to look at they can look at, Cuomo was interfering with the Commissions investigations. There was friction within the Commission, itself with two factions forming: Team Independence and Team We-Have-a-Boss.

Last month, Republican lawmakers decried critical race theory, an academic approach that examines how race and racism function in American institutions.
“Folks, we’re in a cultural warfare today,” Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., said at a news conference alongside six other members of the all-Republican House Freedom Caucus. “Critical race theory asserts that people with white skin are inherently racist, not because of their actions, words or what they actually believe in their heart but by virtue of the color of their skin.”
Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., added: “Democrats want to teach our children to hate each other.”
Many Republican lawmakers, who are fighting what they label as the teaching of critical race theory in schools, contend it divides Americans. Democrats and their allies maintain progress is unlikely without examining the root causes of disparity in the country, although they push back on the idea that critical race theory itself a scholarly undertaking is being taught on the K-12 level. The issue is shaping up to be a major cultural battle ahead of next year’s midterm elections.
States With Republican Governors Had Highest Covid Incidence And Death Rates Study Finds
States with Democratic governors had the highest incidence and death rates from Covid-19 in the first months of the coronavirus pandemic, but states with Republican governors surpassed those rates as the crisis dragged on, a study released Tuesday found.
From March to early June, Republican-led states had lower Covid-19 incidence rates compared with Democratic-led states. On June 3, the association reversed, and Republican-led states had higher incidence,the study by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Medical University of South Carolina showed.
For death rates, Republican-led states had lower rates early in the pandemic, but higher rates from July 4 through mid-December, the study found.

Opinionthe Fantasy Of A New Republican Party
Republicans now control the redistricting process in 20 states, or 187 congressional districts, compared to only 11 states or 84 congressional districts for Democrats. Whats worse, Republicans only need to nudge the congressional boundaries in a handful of those states to wipe out Democrats hopes of retaining the House of Representatives in 2022.
In a worst-case scenario that sees the GOP split up congressional districts in major cities, Democrats could stand to lose over a dozen House seats previously considered safe. And even under a more conservative approach advocated by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and others, the GOP is still considering gutting almost half a dozen now-safe Democratic districts in states such as Indiana, Kansas, Missouri and Tennessee.
A Time For Pity And Contempt
The most urgent resolution we need for 2021 is simple: Americans need to learn to hate each other less. It will sound paradoxical, but that means we need to cultivate pity and contempt.
We increasingly regard each other as malign fiends. Over 80 percent of Republicans say that the Democratic Party has been taken over by socialists, and almost 80 percent of Democrats say that the Republican Party has been taken over by racists. In todays America, one study finds, as many as;half;of the members of each party despise the other party.
A healthy democracy requires that citizens regard one another with certain emotions. In her important book Political Emotions, the philosopher Martha Nussbaum argues: If distant people and abstract principles are to get a grip on our emotions . . . these emotions must somehow position them within our circle of concern, creating a sense of our life in which these people . . . matter as parts of our us. We need to cultivate respect for our fellow citizens, empathy and, when we disagree, the capacity to understand how they could have come to their views. Other emotions, such as disgust, fear, envy and shame, corrode democracy.
The presence of such delusions creates a moral challenge. How are those of us who are not deluded to think and feel about those people?

How Partisans See Themselves: Republicans Say They Are More Patriotic Than Others Democrats Say They Are More Open
Many Republicans and Democrats also associate their fellow partisans with positive traits. And with some exceptions, these are broadly the inverse of how they see the other partys members.
A clear majority of Democrats say that Democrats are more open-minded compared with other Americans. Republicans are considerably less likely to ascribe this trait to members of their party: 42% say members of the GOP are more open-minded than other Americans, while about as many say they are on par with other Americans .
However, Republicans are much more likely than Democrats to describe members of their own party as more patriotic . By comparison, just 29% of Democrats say Democrats are more patriotic than other Americans .
While majorities of those in both parties say their co-partisans are about as intelligent as other Americans, Democrats are slightly more likely to view members of their party as more intelligent than Republicans are .
Increased Media Consumption And The Perception Gap
But not every media outlet is the same. We identified how specific news sources are associated with varying levels of distorted understanding in their audiences. Some news sources are associated with larger Perception Gaps, in particular Breitbart, Drudge Report and popular talk radio programs such as Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. But large Perception Gaps are also associated with liberal sources such as Huffington Post and the Daily Kos. Only one media source is associated with better understanding other Americans views: the traditional television networks of ABC, NBC and CBS. Overall, these findings suggest that media is adding to a polarization ecosystem that is driving Americans apart.
