While Maryland Delays Primary Special Election To Replace Cummings Will Stay As Mail

Super Tuesday: How ‘outsider’ Michael Bloomberg could steal the democrat nomination

WASHINGTON As Maryland delays most primary elections from late April to early June in response to the coronavirus outbreak, the state will not push back the special election aimed at replacing the late Rep. Elijah Cummings.

Instead, that election will go on as scheduled, but all voters will cast their ballot by mail.

But Hogan added that while the election board told him it couldn’t shift the entire state to vote-by-mail in time for the April primary to go on as scheduled, he felt it was “imperative that the people of the seventh congressional district have a voice in the House of Representatives and that Maryland has a full delegation representing our state in Congress.” That’s why he decided to keep that district’s primary on schedule.

The Winners And Losers Of Fridays Democratic Debate

Mind you, most Democratic office-holders know this is general-election suicide: Just two years ago, 79 House Democrats voted against the Congressional Progressive Caucus budget that aimed to hike taxes by $9 trillion over 10 years and that was before the 2018 elections, when dozens of new moderate members won by appealing to the center.

And so would-be moderate Bloomberg aims to starkly raise tax rates on corporations, investors and individual high earners, not only rolling back many of the Trump tax cuts but boosting estate and capital-gains taxes while creating a 5% surtax on incomes over $5 million a year.

And his advisers say he might come up with even more revenue-raising measures and specifically said he didnt see the current $1 trillion deficit as an issue.

Which suggests that hell also be offering spending plans that compete with the other candidates, who are calling for trillions to go for a Green New Deal, Medicare for All and so on.

Yes, Mike Bloomberg has been a liberal his whole life, only registering temporarily as a Republican so he had a path to run for mayor of New York City. Hes always been pro-gun control and long wanted to spend big to combat global warming.

But hes abandoning other principles for this run witness his complete 180 on stop-and-frisk and now his tax-hike fever. Will he come out against charter schools next?

Mayor Of New York City

While at the helm of his company, Bloomberg served on the boards of leading cultural institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Central Park Conservancy, and the Jewish Museum, and he donated $100 million to Johns Hopkins University. Yet he was known for tyrannical outbursts in the Bloomberg offices, browbeating employees and turning against anyone who left his firm. Intensely competitive, Bloomberg, a lifelong Democrat, entered the 2001 race for mayor of New York City as a Republican. Bloomberg funded much of his mayoral campaign himself, spending more than $68 million from his personal fortune .

Bloombergs campaign themes focused on issues of great concern to New Yorkers: improvements in traffic and transit, housing, and education. What helped him most, however, was the endorsement of outgoing New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, whose leadership following the was universally praised. After trailing badly in the polls just weeks before the November 6 election, Bloomberg won the mayors race. He immediately led redevelopment efforts, pushed for the passage of a controversial citywide smoking ban , revitalized tourism, and erased the citys budget deficit.

“Stop and frisk” approval

On February 5, 2015, Bloomberg made comments at the Aspen Institute and, while addressing issues of minority rights, policing policy, and gun control, Bloomberg had said that police should confiscate guns of African Americans between ages 15 and 25. “These kids think theyre going to get killed anyway because all their friends are getting killed. So they just dont have any long-term focus or anything. Its a joke to have a gun. Its a joke to pull a trigger.” He has stated that police should “throw up against the wall and frisk them.” Bloomberg’s approval of stop-and-frisk policies in New York City during his mayoralty has received widespread condemnation from the public and police alike. He eventually disavowed the controversial practice after announcing his campaign. Bloomberg stayed at one point that “One of the unintended consequences is people say, ‘Oh my God, you are arresting kids for marijuana. Theyre all minorities.’ Yes, thats true. Why? Because we put all the cops in the minority neighborhoods. Yes, thats true. Why do you do it? Because thats where all the crime is.”

The comments were criticized by many as racist, including President Trump, who tweeted “WOW, BLOOMBERG IS A TOTAL RACIST!”

How Much Is Bloomberg Spending

Editorial: The Trump message Bloomberg wants Republicans ...

Mr Bloomberg’s ad spending has so far out-paced Mr Trump’s, according to advertising data.

In the past two weeks alone, Mr Bloomberg has splurged more than $1m per day on Facebook ads, mostly targeting Super Tuesday states that will vote on 3 March.

That’s more than five times what Mr Trump has spent over the same period, according to NBC News.

According to Forbes, the co-founder of financial media company Bloomberg LP is worth $62bn. Mr Trump’s own fortune is estimated at $3.1bn.

Mr Trump disparaged his fellow New York billionaire on Thursday, tweeting: “Mini Mike Bloomberg is a LOSER who has money but can’t debate and has zero presence, you will see.”

In response, Mr Bloomberg said the people of New York City “laugh at you & call you a carnival barking clown”.

Earlier in the week, Mr Trump called Mr Bloomberg “a total racist” after an audio tape emerged of the former mayor making incendiary comments while defending the controversial “stop and frisk” policing policy.

. – we know many of the same people in NY. Behind your back they laugh at you & call you a carnival barking clown. They know you inherited a fortune & squandered it with stupid deals and incompetence. I have the record & the resources to defeat you. And I will.

Involvement In 2018 Midterms

On June 20, 2018, Bloomberg announced he would spend $80 million supporting Democratic candidates in the 2018 midterms.

He released a statement that said the following:

â

Republicans in Congress have had almost two years to prove they could govern responsibly. They failed. As we approach the 2018 midterms, it’s critical that we elect people who will lead in ways that this Congress wonât â both by seeking to legislate in a bipartisan way, and by upholding the checks and balances that the Founding Fathers set up to safeguard ethics, prevent the abuse of power, and preserve the rule of law.

And so this fall, I’m going to support Democrats in their efforts to win control of the House.

To be clear: I have plenty of disagreements with some Democrats, especially those who seek to make this election about impeachment. Nothing could be more irresponsible. But I believe that âWe the Peopleâ cannot afford to elect another Congress that lacks the courage to reach across the aisle and the independence to assert its constitutional authority. And so I will support Democratic candidates who are committed to doing both.

On October 2, 2018, Bloomberg announced he would donate $20 million to the Senate Majority PAC.

Promotion Of Conspiracy Theories

Before and throughout his presidency, Trump has promoted numerous conspiracy theories, including Obama birtherism, the Clinton Body Count theory, QAnon, and alleged Ukrainian interference in U.S. elections. In October 2020, Trump retweeted a QAnon follower who asserted that Osama bin Laden was still alive, a body double had been killed in his place, and that “Biden and Obama may have had SEAL Team Six killed.”

During and since the 2020 presidential election, Trump has promoted various conspiracy theories for his defeat including the “dead voter” conspiracy theory, and without providing any evidence he has created other conspiracy theories such as that “some states allowed voters to turn in ballots after Election Day that vote-counting machines were rigged to favor Mr Biden and even that the FBI, the Justice Department and the federal court system were complicit in an attempt to cover up election fraud.”

Last October, Michael Bloomberg, New York City’s Mayor, announced that he would seek to extend the city’s term limits law and run for a third term in 2009, since he needed more than that silly old law limiting the Mayor to two terms, especially during the Wall Street financial crises. “Handling this financial crisis while strengthening essential services…is a challenge I want to take on.” Although Bloomberg rejected former Mayor Giuliani’s grab for a third term after 9/11, saying that no one is indispensible, he suddenly discovered that someone is — himself. The public did not unanimously rejoice in his announcement, but according to Wikipedia, “many elite New Yorkers such as David Rockefeller, Henry Kissinger, and prominent businessmen including Jamie Dimon and press mogul Mortimer Zuckerman voiced support for such a proposal and published an open letter urging the City Council to extend the term limits.” It is a safe bet that anything Henry Kissinger supports warrants very close inspection by a forensic team wearing latex gloves.

Michael Bloomberg: Who is the Democrat candidate? – US Election BBC Newsnight

Americans are going to be dramatically impacted by getting money into our hands, and I think there’s a real chance that this becomes a major issue in the 2020 election itself — and it may be in the Democratic Party platform, Yang told NBC News. I believe that this is going to become the law of the land sometime in the next number of months and years because it’s going to be hard to put the genie back in the bottle honestly.

I would never be someone who would wish this terrible crisis and pandemic on our country, but I do believe that our campaign might have advanced this particular solution right at the right time.

Gop Super Pac Pledges $100000 To Support Rep Steve Kings Primary Challenger

WASHINGTON The GOP Super PAC, Defending Main Street, announced that it will spend $100,000 to support the Republican state legislator challenging Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, in the fourth district congressional primary.

The group said Monday it would invest in direct mail, phone calls, and social media advertising aimed at boosting state Senator Randy Feenstra over King, who has been thrown off all congressional committees after making racist comments in an interview.

Now more than ever, the people of Iowas 4th District need a voice in Washington, D.C., Defending Main Street Treasurer, Sarah Chamberlain, said in a statement.

The small businesses, farmers, and families of this district are being excluded from eminently crucial decision-making amid the pandemic. It is time to restore the level of comprehensive representation these Iowans deserve, she added.

King was stripped of his committee assignments by House Republicans last year after they repeatedly condemned his remarks. The final straw for those House Republicans were comments last January about white nationalism.

King had asked in a New York Times interview: White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization how did that language become offensive? Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?

Biden Sanders Campaigns Ramping Down Ad Spending Amid Coronavirus Spread

WASHINGTON With the coronavirus outbreak prompting several states to postpone their primary elections, former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders are slowing their ad spending to a virtual halt.

A Biden campaign spokesman told NBC News there is no plan right now to go up with TV or radio ads, largely because their ad strategy focuses on creating ads based on the issues voters in that upcoming primary state find to be most important. Facebook’s ad-tracker shows the campaign is still running digital ads on the platform, however.

That same tracker shows that Sanders isn’t currently running any Facebook ads. And data from Advertising Analytics shows that the Sanders campaign is dark on traditional media too .

As the Biden campaign continues to iron out the best ways to campaign in this unprecedented time for presidential politics, the spokesman caveated that their current plan for remaining silent on the airwaves could change. One area where investments could be made is in digital ads now that most people are turning to video websites like YouTube and Hulu while they work from home.

Unite the Country, the Super PAC supporting Bidens candidacy, will also not be on the airwaves or on digital in the coming weeks as they focus on expanding their group with sights set on the general election, Steve Schale, a top strategist for the group, told NBC News.

Did Trump give Bloomberg the correct nickname?

While hes been masterful in this choosing of nicknames so far, the one hes bestowed upon the former mayor of New York City may have been a little shortsighted

No pun intended.

Weve often called Joe Biden Floppy Joe simply because of his penchant for switching his stance on different issues

But maybe we should have stuck with Trumps original moniker of Sleepy Joe as he seems to make most of his speeches right after waking up from a nap.

Think about it

Over the past few weeks, Joe has said that hes running for Senator and that 150 million Americans have been shot since 2007 so sleepy is definitely more apropos.

Now, as far as Bloomberg is concerned

Mini-Mike is an awesome nickname.

Its fitting and the alliteration helps it roll of the tongue easily.

However, is there a more fitting moniker? Because while Floppy Joe has instant recognition due to its similarity to Sloppy Joe , Floppy may better describe Bloomberg. After all, hes switched parties so many times that hes practically given voters whiplash.

Mike Bloomberg Pledges $60 Million To Help House Democrats

Bloomberg signals how weak the Democrat field is: GOP Chair

Former New York mayor Mike Bloomberg plans to spend $60 million to strengthen the Democratic House majority in November, roughly matching the money he invested in flipping control of the House in 2018, according to a Bloomberg adviser familiar with the plans.

The spending will include digital and television ads to defend some of the 20 freshman Democrats he helped win in 2018, along withspending aimed at defeating additional Republican incumbents.

The effort will include new money to several groups, including a revival of Bloombergs own political vehicle, Independence USA, and donations to the House Majority PAC, a group closely associated with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi , said the Bloomberg adviser, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the internal planning.

Mikes view is that the investments he made last time are some of the best investments he has ever made, the adviser said Monday about the House races. We are going to be looking at the same kinds of places, which is to say suburban, swing districts. There will be some overlap with presidential contest states.

Pelosi issued a statement on Monday welcoming Bloombergs continued support of House Democrats.

Mike Bloomberg played a role that was pivotal to our success two years ago, Pelosi said in a statement. We are so glad that he is staying in the fight to protect and expand the Democratic majority in the House.
