Buying a Patriots jersey is a major purchase. But what does your choice say about you as a person? Getty Images

Buying an NFL jersey is more than just a clothing purchase. Its a personality test — and a gamble placed on the calculated chaos of Bill Belichicks roster decisions.

There was a time when you could buy a No. 12 Tom Brady jersey and not worry about whether your gear would be outdated within a couple of years. But now, its a whole new world with a lot of players going on and off the New England Patriots roster .

Looking around Gillette Stadium, youll see a lot of familiar jerseys of yesteryear along with a wide assortment of active players — perhaps more varied than its been in years past.

What does it mean when you see a certain jersey in the wild? Heres a rundown of the options for 2022:

Tom Brady Had An Interesting Reaction To The Return Of New England’s Iconic Red Throwback Uniforms

When the New England Patriotsannounced on Wednesday that the team’s iconic red uniforms would be making a return for the 2022 season, one former Patriots player definitely took notice and that player was Tom Brady.

Although Brady spent 20 years with the Patriots, he didn’t get to wear the red uniforms all that often. As a matter of fact, the Patriots have only worn red a total of 12 times since re-introducing the look back in 1994.

The last time Brady got to wear the red uniform with the Pat Patriot helmet came back in 2012 and he definitely seemed a little jealous when the team announced that the throwbacks would be returning for the 2022 season.

Here was Brady’s one-tweet reaction to the Patriots’ announcement:

Tom Brady

If you’re not familiar with that clip, it’s Jim Carry in “Liar, Liar” and it seems what Brady is trying to say here is that he would have liked to wear the red throwbacks at least one more time.

Brady likely has fond memories of the throwbacks due to the fact that one of the best games of his career came while wearing them. Back in 2009, Brady threw five touchdown passes in THE FIRST QUARTER to help lead the Patriots to a 59-0 win over the Titans. Brady finished the win with 380 passing yards and six touchdowns.

Let’s go ahead and re-live that game, just so we can see the old throwbacks in action.

Tom Brady Has Some Thoughts On The Patriots Switching To Red

According to reports on Wednesday, the New England Patriots will be making a return to the iconic red uniforms for the the 2022 NFL regular season. Now while the news in itself is worth a look, what makes it even more so is that one famous former Patriot definitely took notice and then made his feelings known.

Tom Brady

Tom Brady, the vote for GOAT in the NFL spent some 20 years with the Patriots and never got to play in the famous red. To be fair, since 1994 when the Patriots donned the iconic jersey, the team has only worn it on 12 occasions. so Brady is part of a long list. That being said, the legendary quarterback didnt shy away from making it clear that he was a little jealous when the team made its announcement. Indeed, the last time that Brady got to wear the red was back in 2012. Brady wasted no time in taking to social media where he posted a reference to his desire to have worn the jersey one more time, using a clip of actor Jim Carry in Liar Liar.

Tom Brady Had A Hilarious Reaction To The Patriots Red Throwbacks

    Tom Brady

New Englands look was received with near-universal acclaim. In Bradys case, it was good-natured jealousy as well.

Its pretty clear he would have loved to suit up in that red jersey and white helmet again before he left for Tampa Bay.

While Brady wore those uniforms at times during his Patriots career, he had to go without for the final eight seasons because the NFL instituted a rule limiting teams to just one helmet each year. The lifting of that rule has allowed teams to go all-out with throwbacks this season.

Now that the Pats have thrown down the uniform gauntlet, the only appropriate response from the Bucs is to respond with a creamsicle announcement for 2022.

The creamsicles are coming back eventually at least. The plan for the orange jerseys is for them to debut in 2023. The team cited global supply chain issues as the reason for the delay.

Maybe Brady has some more magic up his sleeves to make it happen.

Weve Got To Talk About The Patriots Inescapable Logo

The reason why we wont see the throwback in 2020 is because the teams existing helmets would clash with any attempt at a 1970s/80s tribute. This is all because of the AFCs worst logo.

In the Patriots official story about their new uniforms, they make it a point to refer to their helmet logo as the Flying Elvis. This is a nickname the team has co-opted from the media. It was not made out of love.

The fact the Patriots primary logo went from this:

    to this:

remains the teams greatest crime against football. The people are crying out for Pat Patriot, only to be denied time and time again. The colonial comet, clad in a tri-corner hat roughly the height of his own face, remains integral to New Englands identity.

I can understand some of the reasoning behind that. Pat Patriot was the look of a loser the franchise went 221-270-9 and won zero Super Bowls with him gracing its helmet. It went 291-125 and won six championships with smeared Sam Adams gracing its domes. Space comet colonial face is the decal of the Belichick era, and the Belichick era is all thats good in New England football history .

    But. It. Suuuuuucks.

The simplest fix to remove the biggest impediment between jersey perfection and completely fine would be an updated Pat Patriot in the Flying Elvis face. This is a swap New England refuses to make.

But theyre still way better than the Falcons.

Whats The Big Deal With Tom Brady And The Red Pats Jersey

To be frank, Brady played one of the best games of his entire career while wearing the red. It was back in 2009, when Brady threw five touchdown passes in just the first quarter to lead the Patriots to a monstrously brutal 59-0 win over the Titans. The QB would go on to finish the game with 380 passing yards to go with a total of six touchdowns.

    NFL Throwback

Where the Patriots themselves are concerned, it could be argued that they too have reason to want the return to red. The Patriots are 9-3 all-time when wearing the infamous jersey and one can imagine that theyll be looking to add to that record when the season kicks off. It should be said that the Patriots have indicated that they will switch to the jersey at least once during the upcoming season, but it is not clear as to when exactly that will happen. Interestingly, this isnt Bradys only kit concern. The Bucs star was hoping that his team would unveil their Creamsicle uniforms this year, however, it now appears that wont be the case with the franchise stating that said jerseys will reappear next year. Given that Brady is set to become a free agent at the end of the coming season, it may well be that he misses out on that wardrobe change as well.
