Patriots Recap Day 1 of Training Camp | Press Pass

What to know for fans visiting training camp. AP

For the first time since the 2019 NFL season, fans will be in attendance as the New England Patriots take the field. After fans were barred from training camp and games in 2019, the Patriots will be opening gates for fans once again at Gillette Stadium.

Open practices at Patriots 2021 training camp are set to open Wednesday, July 28, with fans welcome to attend. As with previous years, there will also be concessions, fan events and bleacher seating on a first-come, first-serve basis.

However, there will be some restrictions and COVID-19 safety protocols in place. For example, players will not be allowed to give autographs, per NFL rules.

Heres a full rundown of schedules, dates and info for fans visiting training camp this year:

Patriots training camp schedule: What days will there be practices? – So far, the only confirmed training camp practice dates are Wednesday, July 28 Thursday, July 29 Friday, July 30 and Saturday, July 31. In-stadium practices are also confirmed for Friday, Aug. 6 and Tuesday, Aug. 10 .

Why isnt the full schedule out? – Training camp schedules are tricky and subject to change. Typically, the Patriots announce practice dates a few days out. Schedule updates will be posted to the Patriots training camp page.

Can fans get autographs? – Autographs will not be allowed at training camp this year due to the NFLs COVID-19 regulations.

Latest Patriots Training Camp News

The Patriots will hold four training camp practices open to the general public next week beginning on Monday and running through Thursday. Every practice will start at 9:30 with gates opening for the public an hour before. In addition, if you are a season ticket holder, the Patriots will hold their first in-stadium training camp practice on Friday.

With only one full week of practice before their first preseason game against Washington, expect to see them in pads at some point this week with the earliest possible day coming on Tuesday. The league limits every team to 16 days in pads and is not to exceed three consecutive days. In addition, every team must abide by an acclimation period when starting camp which the Patriots will come out of starting on Tuesday.

In addition, the general public will be welcome to the stadium for practice on August 10th just two days before the first preseason game and a week before the first mandated roster cutdown.

The annual event is open to town residents as well as season ticket holders, who not only get to watch their hometown team play for nothing but also get treated to a fireworks display at the end.

Patriots Practice In Front Of Fans At Gillette Stadium

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. It was like old times sort of.

There may not have been the capacity crowd that was on hand on Jan. 4, 2020 a 20-13 loss to Tennessee in the wild-card round of the 2019 NFL playoffs but for the first time since that night more than 1 1/2 years ago, the New England Patriots took the field at Gillette Stadium with fans in the stands.

With thousands of season ticket members and Foxborough residents in attendance, the Patriots continued training camp by conducting a non-padded scrimmage inside their home stadium on Friday night. Coach Bill Belichick split his team up into blue and white squads for the session, which was basically conducted at a walkthrough pace.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NFL canceled all preseason games in 2020 and the Patriots played eight regular-season home games with no fans in the stands.

Taking the microphone at halftime of the scrimmage, Patriots owner Robert Kraft welcomed fans back, saying that a number of changes had been made to both the stadium and the team following its 7-9 finish last year before adding the most important thing is after 580 days to have you all back here.

The experience was invigorating for center David Andrews, who is entering his seventh season with the Patriots.

The Patriots Had A Chance Of Heart On Trading Sony Michel Because Of A Stacked Rb Room

Photos: Patriots Training Camp 8/23, presented by Optum

The Patriots didnt want to trade Michel. He appeared more explosive than he has ever looked and seemed to be more valuable to the team than what hed net in a trade . Alas, rookie Rhamondre Stevenson looked even more well-rounded than the Patriots could have anticipated and J.J. Taylor continued his emergence. With Damien Harris, James White and Brandon Bolden fixed into their roles, the Patriots must have felt OK moving on from Michel.

Don’t Draft Any Patriots In Fantasy Football Except Jakobi Meyers And Maybe Jonnu Smith

Draft Meyers. In every single league. Not kidding. To me, hes the best bet to be the most productive pass-catcher in this offense. And hes going deep in drafts. The running backs, quarterbacks and other receivers scare me. Smith, however, strikes me as a player who will likely get a good target share, especially after Henrys underwhelming training camp.

Players To Watch: Patriots Vs Jaguars

Patriots.com Writer

  • Copied!

After two-straight losses, the Patriots will look to get back on track this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars in New England’s regular-season home finale. With a win and an accompanying loss by either the Dolphins or Raiders, the Patriots will clinch a playoff berth for the first time since the 2019 season.

Here are the 10 players to watch!

Mac Jones, QB: The rookie quarterback is coming off his worst outing of the season in which he completed just 43.8 percent of his passes with a 31.4 QB rating. Despite dropping two-straight, the Patriots are still expected to punch their ticket to the postseason, and they’ll need Jones to get back on track with his trademark accuracy and good decision making. Against the Jags 20th-ranked defense there should be opportunities for Mac to find his stride.

Damien Harris, RB: Harris was one of the few bright spots against the Bills, rushing for over 100 yards and finding the end zone three times. After scoring just two touchdowns in his first two seasons, Harris now has 12 in 2021 and needs just 143 yards to break 1,000 for the season. A strong showing against the Jags should set him up to reach the milestone in Miami, though the tough Dolphins defense won’t make anything easy for him.

The Tight End Group Has Been Somewhat Underwhelming

Jonnu Smith has been good not great. Hunter Henry has been injured . Weve seen both of them sparingly. The offense was supposed to be built around these two players. Thats not currently how its constructed. So they will have to 1) get healthy, 2) play better and 3) become the offensive centerpieces theyre supposed to be. It feels like this offense isnt quite ready for the season, largely because the tight ends have stepped up in the ways they should.

Henry, in particular, didnt flash when he was healthy earlier in camp.
