Are There Other Reasons For The Plans

Analysts say companies have reasons outside of the tax bill to be re-thinking worker benefits.

The US unemployment rate is now hovering around 4.1% a level last seen in 2000 putting pressure on firms to keep workers happy.

But it is also clear that self-promotion and political calculus are driving some of the announcements.

Why didnt they just tell their workers privately? says Laurence Kotlikoff, an economics professor at Boston University, who described some of the announcements as implicit back-scratching for the White House.

Theyre making a big deal of this to serve some other purpose, maybe getting the country to like their product or getting the government to lay off a bit.

Banks represent more than a third of the companies with announcements on the Americans for Tax Reform list. That sector is among the biggest beneficiaries of the tax changes, and also expects lighter regulations.

Many companies, however, were already paying below the 35% headline rate.

Professor Kotlikoff says that suggests firms are making their decisions due to sentiment not policy changes. Those moods can shift quickly, he warns.

Are Inmates Still Eligible For The $600 Stimulus Check

The bill text doesnt specify stimulus payment restrictions for people who are incarcerated so they likely are. When the CARES Act was passed, the IRS moved to block people in prison from receiving stimulus checks, but a judge ordered the Treasury and IRS to distribute payments to them.

Incarcerated people who filed a tax return in 2019 will likely receive a payment by mail or direct deposit. People who didnt may need to work with their facility to complete a 2019 return and submit it to the IRS.

Understand The Cases Against Allen Weisselberg And The Trump Organization

Who is Allen H. Weisselberg?Mr. Weisselberg was the Trump Organizations longtime chief financial officer and for decades, one of former President Donald J. Trumps most trusted executives. He entered the Trump orbit as a junior bookkeeper for Mr. Trumps father and climbed the ranks in the decades that followed.

What is he accused of?Mr. Weisselberg and the Trump Organization were both charged with participating in a 15-year tax-evasion scheme starting in 2005 to help executives avoid taxes by compensating them with perks and bonuses that were kept off the books. The charges were the result of an ongoing investigation of Mr. Trump and his company by the Manhattan district attorney.

Was Mr. Trump also charged? No. Although the former president is entwined with the Trump Organization, the indictment, which was unsealed last summer, did not accuse him of wrongdoing. No employee other than Mr. Weisselberg was charged.

What are the implications for Mr. Weisselberg?Mr. Weisselberg has agreed to a plea deal with Manhattan prosecutors, and he is expected to receive a five-month jail term and could spend as little as 100 days behind bars. The deal, which required him to plead guilty to 15 felonies, could put the Trump Organization at a disadvantage at its own trial, which kicked off on Oct. 31. The executive is expected to be a central witness.

Letitia James, the New York attorney general, said in a statement that the investigation will continue.

GETTING WIDER Justice Dept. issues 40 subpoenas in a week, expanding its Jan. 6 inquiry, by The New York Times Glenn Thrush, Maggie Haberman, Adam Goldman and Alan Feuer: Justice Department officials have seized the phones of two top advisers to former President Donald J. Trump and blanketed his aides with about 40 subpoenas in a substantial escalation of the investigation into his efforts to subvert the 2020 election, people familiar with the inquiry said on Monday. The seizure of the phones, coupled with a widening effort to obtain information from those around Mr. Trump after the 2020 election, represent some of the most aggressive steps the department has taken thus far in its criminal investigation into the actions that led to the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob.”

What To Watch For

The other elements of the GOP proposal, which Mnuchin said would be unveiled Monday. In addition to the checks, Kudlow said the federal government would extend the eviction moratorium implemented in March, which means more renters wont lose their housing because they couldnt pay rent. Kudlow also said there would be a reemployment bonus and retention tax credit bonus for Americans going back to work.

The End Of Tax Cut Populism

Its easy to forget this now, but the Reagan tax cut project of the 1980s was largely a populist endeavor. Business interests, sociologist Monica Prasad has found, were not particularly enamored of Reagans and other supply-siders plans to slash the top individual tax rate from 70 percent to 50 percent.

Business interests were understandably more focused on pushing through substantial corporate tax rate cuts and saw individual rate cuts as a distraction. But the Republican coalition embraced across-the-board individual rate cuts, at least in part, because the idea was genuinely popular, Prasad argues.

Tax rates were much higher across the board in 1981 than they are now, and even more importantly, inflation was high and rising, and tax brackets were not indexed for inflation. This meant that with each passing year, more people were getting pushed into higher tax brackets, which angered middle-class taxpayers, not just the rich.

The key to victory for conservatives, supply-siders like Jude Wanniski argued, was not to become Scrooges decrying government spending, but to become like a second Santa Claus. The first Santa Claus was the Democrats, who offered benefits through more spending programs. The second Santa Claus would be the Republicans, offering benefits through tax cuts. It was an explicitly populist strategy, and it made sense politically, if not economically.

Mixed-status households, or those where a family member doesnt have a Social Security number, will be eligible for stimulus payments, a key change from the CARES Act.

Those without Social Security numbers, typically unauthorized immigrants, still arent eligible. But it would allow U.S. citizens who are married to foreign nationals without Social Security numbers to receive the aid.

Are Unemployment Benefits Extended

The bill would extend all pandemic unemployment programs set to expire at the end of December by 11 weeks through mid-March, less than the 16 weeks that a bipartisan plan had called for earlier this month.

The deal came as two unemployment programs were set to end on Dec. 26: the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, which provides aid to self-employed, temporary workers and gig workers and the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation program, which provides an additional 13 weeks of benefits beyond the typical 26 weeks that states provide to jobless workers.

Did People Earn Any Money At All

Probably the biggest takeaway from this review is the fact that people may or may not have earned money at all from Trump Bonus Checks.

I dont have any proof of either, so its quite difficult to assume if people did or did not earn anything.

But I would be wary of the testimonials that are spread out over the sales page because these may not be as authentic or sincere as one might hope to be.

What Are Trump Bonus Checks Really

Okay… So by now you probably are wondering what the heck these bonus checks really are. Is there any truth to them?Well, I guess there is some truth but they are probably not what you would expect after listening to what Mike Burnick tells you.

All these checks are that he keeps talking about our dividend payments. Yes You heard me correct Dividend payments, which are a portion of the company profits that are sent out to shareholders, which you probably are well aware of.

There is no secret This is not something that is “inside information” It’s just dividends.

But why the heck is he calling these “Trump” bonus checks? Well This is because of the new tax laws that have been put in place by the Trump administration. For a long time now companies have been stuck with “hoards” of cash overseas American companies that don’t want to bring it back to the US because of how high the taxes have been. The Trump administration has decreased these taxes and because of this American companies are able to bring more money back to the US.

It it is expected that dividends from many of these companies will increase and you should also be able to expect to see them buying back stock in the companies Which is all good and dandy, just not really what you might expect after listening to the sales pitch.

Why do you have to get in before Oct 16th?

Are President Trumps Tax Cuts Helping Workers

Will Trumps phase two of tax cuts help Americans retire?

Business reporters, New York

It is bonus season in America and this year, companies are cutting some workers special cheques.

At Disney, 125,000 workers will receive a $1,000 one-time bonus. Alaska Airlines said 23,000 of its staff would get $1,000 awards, on top of their usual incentive system. And about 60,000 employees at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles are due to take home $2,000 extra.

Those companies are just three of the roughly 250 firms that have announced bonuses, pay increases, more generous benefits or US investments, citing tax cuts the US passed in December, according to Americans for Tax Reform, an organisation that lobbies for lower taxes.

All told, the group counts at least 3 million Americans due for some kind of boost from employers as a result of the overhaul, which slashed the corporate rate from 35% to 21%.

The announcements have reignited debate over whether the controversial law estimated to cost a total of $1.5tn from 2018 through 2027 is good for the average American.

Can The Government Reduce Or Garnish My Economic Impact Payment

Your Economic Impact Payment will not be subject to most types of federal offset or federal garnishment as a result of defaulted student loans or tax debt. However, the payments are still subject to garnishment if youre behind on child support.

The payments may also still be subject to State or local government garnishment and also to court-ordered garnishments.

Donald Trump Says Tax Bill Led To Bonuses For 3 Million Workers

President Donald Trump said the tax bill passed in December has already led to millions of workers getting bonuses.

“Since we passed tax cuts, over 3 million workers have gotten tax cut bonuses many of them thousands and thousands of dollars,” Trump said during the State of the Union Jan. 30.

In December, Trump signed a bill into law that lowered the corporate tax rate from 35 to 21 percent.

Trumps numbers echo the finding of a conservative group that had compiled company announcements about bonuses, but the majority of companies bonuses appeared to be $1,000 or less, not the “thousands and thousands” Trump said.

Trumps numbers match a compilation by Americans for Tax Reform, a group started by anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist. Americans for Tax Reform advocates against tax increases and supported the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that Trump signed into law in December.

Americans for Tax Reform used company press releases and media reports to compile a list of announced bonuses or other financial benefits. The group found that as of the day of Trumps State of the Union speech, at least 3 million Americans are receiving special tax reform bonuses.

American Airlines, FedEx, Home Depot, Nationwide Insurance, Walmart and Walt Disney Company were among the companies that announced bonuses.

In total, at least 286 companies have announced wage and salary increases, bonuses, or 401 match increases, or in the case of public utility companies, lower rates.

Child Or Dependent Qualification For The $500 Payment

TRUMP Bonus Checks

Several readers have asked questions around the $500 child dependent additional stimulus payment. To get this payment you must have filed a 2018 or 2019 tax return and claimed the child as dependent ANDthe child must be younger than 17-years-old at the end of 2020. They must also be related to you by blood, marriage, or adoption . There is no limit to the number of dependents who can qualify for the additional $500 in one household.

This age limit is much younger than what is used by the IRS in the qualifying child test where a child must be younger than 19 years old or be a student younger than 24 years old as of the end of the calendar year. Hence the confusion being caused by this. So just remember if your child or eligible dependent is 17 or over you cannot claim the stimulus payment for them.

College Kids and High School Seniors

The younger than 17 yr old requirement has ruled out several thousand college students and high school kids who are older than 17, but still being claimed as a dependent by their parents on their federal tax return.

However if you are a college student AND filed a recent tax return you can qualify for a standard/adult stimulus check per the above eligibility rules. But note as soon as you file a return you cannot be claimed as a dependent by others, which means they lose certain other tax benefits and credits.
