New England Patriots At Carolina Panthers: Betting Guide
The learning curve continues for promising New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, who struggled in his last game. He has still been the most productive of the rookie quarterbacks but will be facing a pretty sound Carolina Panthers pass defense on the road. Weather should not be an issue with temperatures expected to be in the low 60s with only a slight chance of rain at kickoff.
Common Opponents Of Both Teams
The Patriots and Panthers both played against the AFC South and NFC East in the regular season. The Patriots lost to the Washington Redskins 2017 in Week Four but swept the rest of the NFC East and the entire AFC South the Patriots shut out Dallas in bitter cold and edged the Giants in the rain while hammering Philly following the infamously erroneous “They hate their coach” quote from Tom Jackson the Patriots also edged the Titans, Houston in overtime, and former division rival Indianapolis in shootouts while routing Jacksonville in the regular season, and then edged the Titans and hammered the Colts in the playoffs. The Panthers had less success, going 64 against the two divisions, losing to the Titans and Houston while defeating Jacksonville and the Colts, and defeating Washington and the Giants while losing to Philadelphia and Dallas in the regular season, then routing the Cowboys and edging the Eagles in the playoffs.

Westwood One carried the game nationwide over terrestrial radio with on play-by-play and Boomer Esiason on color commentary, with Jim Gray hosting the pregame and halftime shows. Locally, Gil Santos and Gino Cappelletti called the game for the Patriots and Bill Rosinski and Eugene Robinson served that position for the Panthers.
After the postgame coverage was complete, CBS aired the season premiere for Survivor: All Stars.

Panthers Getting Healthier Ahead Of Matchup With Patriots
The Carolina Panthers are facing a number of offensive personnel questions heading into Sundays game with the Patriots. Star running back Christian McCaffrey has been on IR, while starting quarterback Sam Darnold left last weeks win over the Falcons early after taking a big hit to the head.
Thats not a guarantee McCaffrey will play on Sunday, but its the first step towards him being eligible. The team has until Saturday at 4 p.m. to activate him in order for him to play this week, with the overall window for activation three weeks long. McCaffrey hasnt played since Week 3 due to a hamstring injury, and has already suffered one setback, so the Panthers may not want to rush him. The team is 3-0 when McCaffrey has played this season, and 1-4 when he sits.
Darnold was also spotted at the early portion of practice, after reportedly spending time in concussion protocol earlier this week. However, backup quarterback P.J. Walker led team drills according to Ellis Williams of the Charlotte Observer. Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Bill Belichick said his team is preparing for both quarterbacks.
The Patriots Go For Two Out Of Three
Then, New England seemed to implode before the 2003 season ever started. Five days before their opening game against the Buffalo Bills, Pro Bowl safety Lawyer Milloy, one of the Patriots’ defensive leaders, was unexpectedly cut by the team after refusing to restructure his contract. The move devastated many of the New England players, while Milloy immediately signed with the Bills two days later. With the Patriots seemingly in emotional disarray, Buffalo defeated New England, 310, with Milloy forcing an interception and recording one sack and five tackles.
However, after a 22 start, the Patriots ended up winning their last 12 games to earn a league-best 142 record.
In the backfield, the team’s rushing game was led by running backs Antowain Smith and Kevin Faulk, who carried the ball equally. Smith was the team’s leading rusher with 642 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Faulk rushed for 638 yards and caught 48 passes for 440 yards.
Washington helped anchor New England’s defensive line, recording 32 tackles and 2 sacks. Pro Bowl defensive tackle Richard Seymour also contributed with 8 sacks. Behind them, the Patriots had 3 outstanding linebackers: Pro Bowl linebacker Willie McGinest , Mike Vrabel , and Tedy Bruschi .

Can Carolina Apply Pressure On Mac Jones
The Panthers get pressure on the quarterback as good as any team in the NFL. The club’s 33% pressure rate on opponents’ dropbacks is the fifth-highest in the league and is allowing opposing quarterbacks just 2.28 seconds before pressure, which is the best mark in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Patriots are allowing 2.41 seconds before pressure this season . According to Pro Football Focus, Jones is completing 56% of his passes when under pressure on 5.5 yards per attempt. When working in a clean pocket, he’s completing nearly 73% of his throws and has a yards per attempt of 7.7, so it’ll be imperative for New England’s O-line to give him as much time as possible before the Carolina pass rush starts to breathe down his neck.
Panthers Vs Patriots Tickets
Whenever two teams meet in the Super Bowl, it always opens the door for a potential rivalry. That has surely been the case with the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots, who met in Super Bowl XXXVIII. Obviously, teams from different conferences dont meet that frequently, but after meeting in a Super Bowl, those teams are forever linked, adding a little extra intrigue to every Panthers-Pats game with one fanbase hoping to retain bragging rights and the other looking for redemption. Plus, what fan doesnt get excited about seeing a Super Bowl rematch?

Ben Rolfe writes: “Both the Patriots and Panthers kept their seasons alive last week, but these two teams have been incredibly hard to make predictions about. Both quarterbacks have had their ups and downs, and this game has the subplot of the Patriots facing their former defensive back in Stephon Gilmore. This is also the defensive scheme that famously had Darnold seeing ghosts while with the Jets. The Patriots should have too much for Carolina, but this might be another close game for New England.”
Why Bet On Panthers
The Panthers come into this game ranked third in the NFC South Group, with a record of four wins and four losses. Carolina will try as much as possible to have a considerable winning streak, since they had two very powerful teams in their group and, to reach them and pass them on the table, they must have an almost perfect season from now on.
Carolina Panthers is coming off an excellent victory against the Falcons with a result of 19-13.

Matt Johnson writes: “Carolina settled at quarterback this past offseason and its going to cost them. Put Deshaun Watson, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford or even Justin Fields, and this is a very dangerous club. With Sam Darnold as the signal-caller, New Englands defense will get into his head with pressure and that will cost Carolina.”
What It Means: Panthers
Throughout the week, all eyes in Panthers fandom will be on the status of quarterback Sam Darnold and running back Christian McCaffrey
Earlier in the day on Wednesday, McCaffrey was designated to return from IR. He had been out since Week Three with a hamstring injury. With his return, he is able to practice, and it marks the start of a 21-day window to activate him.
Per multiple reports of reporters in attendance for Wednesdays practice, the 25-year-old was moving well in the period of practice open to the media When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Panthers head coach Matt Rhule indicated that the team will continue to monitor McCaffrey, saying: Whenever he is ready to go, he’ll go.”
As for Darnold, he was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday. However, he was “extremely limited” , as he only participated in the walkthrough portion of practice. Darnold remains under concussion evaluation, and is also dealing with an injury to his right shoulder.
Receiver Terrace Marshall, Jr. also continues to undergo evaluation for a concussion, but was a full participant in practice on Wednesday.
Last, but certainly not least, cornerback Stephon Gilmore was a full participant during Wednesdays session, listed with a quad injury, which kept him from participating in any on-field activity while with the Patriots throughout training camp, the preseason and the start of the regular season.
Can Panthers Qbs Be More Efficient Passers
It’s currently unclear whether it will be Sam Darnold or P.J. Walker under center for the Panthers. However, no matter who is starting for Carolina on Sunday, they’ll need to be much more efficient passing the football than they have been over the course of the season. The Panthers have completed a league-low 59% of their passes this season. Darnold has completed 60.8% of his passes in 2021, while Walker has completed 49.3% of his throws for his career. New England is allowing opposing quarterbacks to complete 61% of their passes this season, which is the third-lowest in the league, so it could be tough sledding for whoever is QB1 on Sunday.

Carolina Panthers’ Stephon Gilmore Says Handling Of Injury Contract Contributed To Departure From New England Patriots
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Cornerback Stephon Gilmore said Wednesday that he didn’t agree with how the New England Patriots handled his return from surgery on his torn quadriceps, which along with his contract was a primary factor in his departure.
The Patriots traded Gilmore to the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 6 in exchange for a sixth-round draft choice, and with the Patriots visiting the Panthers on Sunday , Gilmore now gets to face his former team.
“I just didn’t like how they handled my situation, my injury. A lot went on with that I didn’t agree with,” Gilmore told Patriots reporters on a conference call from Carolina.
“Now that I’m here, I’m able to do the things I have to do to get me back ready to where I need to be. I learned a lot there. I have a lot of friends there. A lot of great coaches. I just didn’t like how they handled my situation with my injury.”
New England Patriots Offensive Line Has To Control The Game
This is a key to every game. How the offensive line goes, so goes the Patriots and every other team in the NFL or anywhere else for that matter.
The O-line is the determining factor each and every Sunday. If they pass-block well, Mac Jones and his super-accurate throwing will carve up a defense, his lack of top wide receivers notwithstanding.
If the offensive line run-blocks well, they will open holes for lead-back Damien Harris and the other backs.
Hopefully, Rhamondre Stevenson who should be their short-yardage guy, if they ever decide to run again in short-yardage, will be active. Hes also about to break a big run loose but he cant if hes not playing.
The offensive line also controls the clock with a good running game. That keeps the ball out of the hands of the Panthers offense. It also keeps the Patriots defense fresh.
So there are three possible keys to the game Sunday against Carolina. What do you think are the three keys to the game?
The New England Patriots Have To Play Mistake
The key to winning not only this game against Carolina but any game really is to play as mistake-free football as possible.
In plain terms, first, that means no fumbles and no interceptions. Getting some yourself is also a big plus as we saw in the win against the Los Angeles Chargers last week. Adrian Phillips had two huge picks last Sunday against the Chargers, and his timely pick-six was crucial in picking up a victory.
Their own turnovers were the bane of the Patriots early this season. At least two games were squandered directly because of turnovers.
One game was against the Miami Dolphins and the other was against the Dallas Cowboys. Both games were essentially in the bag but were thrown away due to costly late turnovers.
The Patriots could be sitting pretty with at least a 6-2 record absent those two plays. Just two really terrible plays gone wrong ruined that nice situation. Its a shame.
Mac Jones has to have a clean, as in no interceptions, day again as he did against the Chargers last Sunday. To beat Carolina, simply avoid any turnovers. It helps immeasurably.
On Sunday, if Jones and the offense play turnover-free football they will have a solid opportunity to win this game and to have a winning record for the first time this season.
