Jeep Patriot Oil Capacity
I remember back when I first bought my Jeep Patriot. It was the best feeling in the world to buy it and I couldnt believe that I had finally made it happen. The best part of owning a Jeep Patriot is, of course, taking it off-road!
However, this also means that your vehicle needs some special care in order to stay running well for as long as possible. One way you can do this is by making sure you use the best motor oil for Jeep Patriot so that your engine lasts longer with less maintenance required.
The Patriot is an affordable off-roader that comes with either a 158-hp 2.0-liter or a 172-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Choose among a five-speed manual, a six-speed automatic, and a CVT for transmission choices. Standard front-wheel drive all-wheel drive is available as an option. The Patriot isnt exactly fun to drive, but its boxy appearance is endearingly reminiscent of classic Jeeps.
How Often Should I Change The Oil In My Jeep
For some, an oil change is like heading to the dentist: inconvenient but necessary.
Todays newer-tech engines using synthetic oil are engineered to go anywhere from 7,500 to 15,000 miles between oil changes. Thanks to more exacting standards in engine-building technology, the quality of the synthetic oils has improved. And theres another factor: more than half of todays new cars have monitoring systems that give you a heads-up when its time to change the oil.
Your driving style and needs can also affect how often you need to change your oil. If you just drive around town and put 6,000 miles or so on the odometer every six months, you might change the oil twice a year. If you do a lot of highway or long-distance running or operate your vehicle in sandy or dusty surroundings like the deserts of Nevada or Arizona, you might be a candidate for more frequent changes.
Once upon a time, local service stations and Quick-Lube franchisees recommended changing traditional oil and oil filters every 3,000 miles. That was mostly a marketing ploy. Lately, with the use of synthetic blends and full synthetic oils, owners are now able to push out or extend the vehicles oil life further to 10,000 miles or even as much as 15,000 miles.
Regular maintenance wont just keep your car running well, itll help protect your cars value over time. For more ways to do this, see How to Maintain the Value of Your Car.

Do I Need Synthetic Oil In My Jeep
To decide what type of lubricant is suitable for your vehicles engine, its always a good idea to consult your owners manual. Inside you will find the type, grade, and frequency of change for your engines oil.
There are several types of motor oils offered today. Widely available, either at your dealership or the local auto parts and big-box stores, they are tailor-made for the type of driving you do.
- Traditional motor oil has always been a safe choice, but it requires replacement more frequently. The same applies to the filters that trap many impurities from the oil flow as possible during its lifetime. Traditional motor oils should be changed after approximately 5,000 miles of service.
- Semi-Synthetic motor oil combines traditional and synthetic blends and are a good choice for vehicles that operate under heavier loads and extended driving sessions. Semi-Synthetics last longer than traditional oils and could safely provide proper lubrication to around 8,000 miles.
- Synthetic motor oil is the perfect choice for todays high-tech engines, whether high-performance or high-efficiency. They offer better performance from a viscosity standpoint and increased protection from foreign deposits. Good all the way out to 10,000 or even 15,000 miles in some usages, it is the perfect choice to protect your investment whether its a Grand Tourer, a Ranch Edition pickup truck or a Plug-in Hybrid.

The video above shows you how to add oil to your 2008 Jeep Patriot. Before adding oil to your Patriot, make sure that your engine was cold and that your car was parked on a level surface when you checked the oil level otherwise you won’t be able to tell if your Patriot has a low oil level. For most Jeeps, if your oil level is at the minimum mark on your dipstick, you should add about a quart of oil. If you are unsure how much oil to add to your Patriot, add a little bit at a time and check your dipstick frequently. This video shows you where the oil fill cap is located on your Patriot and how to add oil. Adding too much oil to your Patriot can be harmful, so it is easiest to add a little at a time.If you add too much oil to your Patriot, you will need to remove some by loosening the drain plug underneath your engine – check out our video on how to change your oil & oil filter to see how to remove the excess oil.

What’s Involved In An Oil Change
Nobody knows your Jeep better than your local dealership service department. Theyve undergone factory training to properly maintain and repair your vehicle. While traditional oils are still in widespread use and were most likely what your vehicle was using when it came from the factory, your dealership service department stocks a wide variety of brands and types of oil that will suit the needs of your specific vehicle and its type of usage.
Consult your owners manual for oil type, oil amount, oil pan location, drain plug and oil filter sizes and locations.

Engine Oil Change Indicator System
Oil Change Required:
The engine oil change indicator system in your car tells you when its time to change the oil. After a single chime, the Oil Change Required notice will flash on the EVIC display for approximately 10 seconds to indicate that your next scheduled oil change is approaching. The engine oil change indication system is duty cycle-dependent, which means your driving habits may affect how often you have to change the engine oil.
This message will continue to show up every time you turn the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position, even if it has not been reset. To temporarily turn off the alert, press and release the Trip Odometer button on the instrument cluster. The oil change indicator system may be reset by following these steps:
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
- Fully depress the accelerator pedal, slowly, three times within 10 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position
*** What Type Of Oil To Use***
This is the letter I sent to find out the facts regarding the type of oil to use.
- Chrysler along with other large car manufacturers recommend 5w-20 to help them hit their EPA CAFE targets . A thinner oil in one vehicle will do little to improve fuel economy, the savings are only seen across thousands of cars/trucks sold in North America.
- There is evidence 5w-20 will slightly reduce fuel consumption at the expense of slightly more engine wear all other things being equal.
- Chrysler cannot and will not void your warranty for using 5w-30. It is an API approved motor oil. Since 5w-20 is only legislated for use in North America 5w-30 is recommended for the Jeep Patriot everywhere else in the world.
- Why is 5w-20 not recommended for use outside of North America on any vehicle?
- There are thousands of North American cars exported to other countries why can’t you buy 5w-20 outside North America?
- Environmental laws in Europe are more strict, why is their equivalent to the EPA not insisting 5w-20 be used?

Why Is Changing The Oil In My Jeep Important
Engines have made quantum leaps in technology, but the one thing that has remained constant is the way we lubricate them and the need to keep that oil clean to ensure long engine life. This entails draining the oil, replacing the filter and refilling the engine with new lubricant.
Use of high-compression engines, auto start/stop technology, turbocharging and more has put increasing demands on oil and lubricant technology. Conventional oils are derived directly from crude oil. Newer synthetic oils are a blend of traditional oil with lubricants and other additives that enhance its performance, but comes at a higher price, on average, than regular oils.

Religion has convinced people that theres an invisible manliving in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesnt want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer and burn and scream until the end of time. Benefits Of Using Synthetic Motor Oils
Conventional mineral engine oils are made from a mineral base oil that is and usually has more contaminants as the main component.
Engine oils that are synthesized have several advantages for automobiles. Lower viscosity, which translates to better cold-temperature performance .
In general, synthetic engine oils outperform traditional mineral engine oils in a variety of ways. Synthetic oils are made with higher-quality base stocks that improve the overall performance package of engine oil.
