Ball Joint Problem Of The 2008 Jeep Patriot

Jeep Patriot/Jeep compass lower control arm/ball joint replacement/ 2007 to 2017/W âCâ? roll

My front crossmember / sub frame is rotted out . Contacted Jeep they are aware of problem because they warranted 2007 models but not 2008 . Front engine cradle has huge holes in it . Design flaw cause the ac drips right on frame causing rust . Dealership said no setrvice bulletin issued but they lied . Finally got a good quote to have fixed gonna cost 775 to fix . I have also changed my front suspension components 3 times . Ball joints , tie rods etc and the other parts . Only saving grace is its paid for and lifetime power train warranty .

> it Matters Because If One

& gt It matters because if one issue is 5 dollars and the other issue is 1300, even if it’s only a 20% chance, you WILL do the cheapest first. Yeah…no… Why would you not diagnose it and waste $5+ labor on a $1300 issue? It makes no sense. This is the difference between & quot parts swapper& quot and & quot mechanic& quot . It’s the difference between actual diagnosis and just & quot trying stuff& quot .

Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint Problem Of The 2010 Jeep Patriot

Went to go look for new tires and was told both lower ball joints were bad. Right side was worse and not to drive before getting it fixed it was that bad. In my 45 years of driving I have never had ball joint go this early. Ball joints went out before my first set of tires. There has got to be a serious problem for this to happen. It seems I’m not the only Jeep owner with this problem.

The Problem: The Oe Ball Joint Is Non

Is your Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, or Dodge Caliber experiencing a loss of handling or early tire wear? This can be caused by your front lower ball joints failing. The OE balljoints that come factory installed on your Jeep or Dodge are non-serviceable, this leads to contaminant buildup and corrosion, eventually resulting in the ball joint’s failure. What makes this worse is that you can’t get a ball joint separately from the factory, this leaves technicians no choice but to install entire control arms. We here at DST know how important it is to get your Jeep or Dodge up and running again, without breaking your bank.

I went to my dealership for an oil change and was told my front lower ball joints are bad and if not replaced I could not have my state inspection done. I only have 16, 499 miles on my Jeep. This makes no sense to me. I have read that the oem parts are all defective. I want Chrysler to help pay the costs. I was quoted around $675 with labor.

The subframe assembly on my 2008 Jeep Patriot has begun rusting out. The outer tie rod ends and lower ball joints are also worn. Similar issues have been addressed through a parts recall on the 2007 Jeep Patriot. This degradation of steering/suspension parts on a 2008 model warrant a recall similar to that of the 2007 model.

How Urgent Is A Front Lower Ball Joint Replacement

As ball joints wear out, they cease to do their job as well. Eventually, the wear reaches a critical point, and the ball joints fail completely. Since theyre responsible for controlling the cars wheels, this means a loss of control. If your ball joints are failing, they should be repaired immediately, before you risk losing your steering while traveling at a high speed.

Jeep Compass, Patriot replace front control arm with ball joint

My 2011 Jeep Patriot was purchased new in mid November 2010. It has 42,972 miles on it. I had to replace the tires, one was worn clear down on the inside. The tire supplier said I needed an alignment. When I went in to get an alignment they were unable to do one because my ball joints needed replaced. I’ve owned this vehicle for 63 1/2 months and driven it less than 677 miles a month or less than 10 miles per day, I should not be replacing my ball joints with these low miles on my car! it is bad enough that I was told not to even drive my car until the parts come in which is going to be another 13 days! please tell me how this is normal wear & tear on a vehicle that has never been off road and has never had the 4 wheel drive engaged longer than to just pull out of slick spot? please make this right and recall the Jeeps that are having this issue!.

‘sealed For Life’ Vs ‘greasable’ Joints

Often times, grease will be added to ball joints. This will work well only if the joint is consistently and routinely greased. But even then, once a path has been created for the grease to egress, a path has also been created for the ingress of elements such as water, road salt and grit – which causes contamination leading to premature wear. ‘Sealed for Life’ ball joints protect from harmful elements and are maintenance free, promoting the proper product lifespan. We use the highest quality grease during the manufacturing process of our ‘Sealed for life’ joints, meaning we offer optimal performance for the life of the TRW branded joint.

Ball Joint Problem Of The 2007 Jeep Patriot

Purchased this vehicle in may of 2012. Vehicle makes large rattling racket when going over any type of dirt road/brick road and a clunk when going over large bumps . Have taken to mechanic several times – turns out the large clunk was the ball joints. . . They were completely worn at 48000 miles which in turn changed the alignment of my wheels – as well as after driving it a mere 10000 miles made both front tires completely bald.

At 21,237 miles, front tie rods and ball joints had to be replaced for a total of $1500. At this amount of miles, this is completely unacceptable. After some internet research, I discovered that this is on ongoing problem in Jeep Patriots that has not been addressed by Chrysler. I was actually told that my car was unsafe to drive without these repairs, and I had been driving it regularly and could have been killed in a fiery crash because of Chrysler’s neglect.

Ball Joint Problem Of The 2013 Jeep Patriot

Jeep Compass / Patroit lower control arm balljoint replacement

I have had a terrible service experience. I had to wait over a month to get my 2013 Jeep in for warranty service. After another two week wait, I was told all was good and to pick up my vehicle. The maintenance department assured me that the vehicle was good to go repeatedly, even after I asked them multiple times because of prior bad service. The maintenance shop failed to reconnect my vehicles front right ball joint causing a catastrophic loss of control on the road after leaving the dealer. I skidded off the road, with one tire flopping around in the wheel well uncontrollably narrowly avoiding two other vehicles on my way off the road. Had this happed at a faster speed, there is a good chance the family and I could have been killed. This happened over two weeks ago and the dealership still has my vehicle. They have replaced some parts but have refused to replace damaged tires. One expects the highest of maintenance standards when taking a vehicle to a dealership, this dealership is failing horribly in maintenance standards and customer service.

& gt I also noticed that the ball joints had that nipple thing for grease. Then they’ve probably already been replaced once, because the factory ones aren’t usually serviceable. You should be greasing any serviceable components on a regular basis if you want them to last. Just do them at the same time you change your oil, and you should be set.

Steering Is Slightly Off

As your ball joints begin to die, they can become loose in the socket. That will mess up the alignment, and you may notice that your car isnt steering quite the way that youve been asking it to. The result will usually be your car pulling to the left or the right. This is a bit of a disconcerting feeling, when your car is trying to go in one direction when youre not asking it to. So listen to your intuition when it tells you that something is wrong.

& gt Which one would be cheaper to replace? How does that matter? Diagnosis isn’t & quot throwing parts at things& quot . You figure out what is wrong and replace that, not the other way around. You need the vehicle off the ground and the wheel off to push/pull/use pry bars to see what is good and what is not. Then you replace what is not.

It Appears To Be The Ball

For Jeep Patriot 2007

It appears to be the ball joints. You could have someone else turn the wheel while you listen to really narrow it down. Jack up the front end, grab the wheel at the top and bottom, and tilt it up and down. As long as there is no play, they should be OK to drive in the short-term. Factory ball joints are greased for life, so once that grease runs out, you need to replace them. I wouldn’t wait too long though.

I Asked So I Could Hope It

I asked so I could hope it was the cheaper of the two issues. Not that I would just replace the cheaper one first. But, its a moo point anyways. Got it up in the air, used a pry bar and everything is sturdy – no play anywhere. I also noticed that the ball joints had that nipple thing for grease. Was able to grease up the ball joint and the squeak went completely away.
