Patriots Vs Eagles Preseason Preview

New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles | Preseason Week 2 2021 NFL Game Highlights

The Patriots won their first preseason game against the Washington Football Team, 22-13. Quarterbacks Cam Newton and Mac Jones both saw action, with the rookie Jones getting more snaps. Newton went 4-7 for 49 yards , while Jones went 13-19 for 87 yards . Running back Rhamondre Stevenson provided the bulk of the teams offense, rushing 10 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

When asked how Newton has progressed in Year 2 under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had generally positive things to say after the game.

Well, definitely way ahead of where we were at this time last year, but again, as I said, its I think the same for everybody,Belichick said.Just practice and fundamentals and then taking that to the execution that we need to have at game speed. Again, for all of us players, coaches, everybody. Last night was the step, but we have a long way to go, and we all need to improve in those areas.

On the other side, the Eagles are coming off a 24-16 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in their first preseason game. Quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Joe Flacco both played in the game. Hurts went 3-7 for 54 yards, and Flacco finished his day completing 10 of 17 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. Philadelphia had 236 yards through the air and just 52 yards on the ground, though, so the offense will have to find the running game at some point.

The ‘take That Eagles’ Award : The Patriots

The Pats generally looked bad in joint practices with the Eagles this week, but their starters were finally able to put some points on the board against guys like Matt Leo. Congrats, fellas.

Pats reporters took note that Cam Newton completed a short pass in the general vicinity of K’Von Wallace, who had called Newton a “checkdown king” during practice.

Newton and Meyers beat 42 Wallace. lolCheck this down.

The New England Patriots are hitting the road to face the Philadelphia Eagles for Week 2 of preseason games.

New England pulled off an entertaining 22-13 victory against the Washington Football Team last week and they look to build off that momentum. Cam Newton and Mac Jones had their first in-game opportunities this season in a fight for the starting role it was difficult to put one above the other. The main focus of this matchup will still be on Newtons abilities compared to Jones.

The Patriots and Eagles had joint practices this week and already built up some energy ahead of the game. Jalen Mills and Nelson Agholor made a return to the city that drafted them, making for an exciting showdown against their former teammates.

Preseason week 2 Patriots vs Eagles: Live updates and game ...

Week 1 was highly anticipated for Patriots fans as quarterback Mac Jones was bound to showcase his skills against the Washington Football Team. However, it was someone else who stole the spotlight. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson recorded 127 rush yards and two touchdowns in just 10 carries. This goes to show how effective Bill Belichicks team is when it comes to recruitment.

Nonetheless, Jones put on a good show, going 13 of 19 for 87 passing yards. This puts him back in the quarterback talks over Cam Newton, and he could play a pivotal role against the Eagles defense that allowed 410 total yards in their opening game.

Its easy to overlook the Patriots defense given that they have one of the most impressive offensive lines in the league. However, what they did last game will have everyone think otherwise. After holding back the Washington Football Team to 13 points while maintaining consistency is a huge plus for the Pats coming into this Thursdays contest.

It’s game day for those of us degenerates who love betting on the randomness of preseason football.

And while we can’t predict how either side will approach their second dress rehearsal, we can at least come up with a few reasons to justify some action on New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles.

Score Prediction: New England 20 Philadelphia 14

Itâs Week 2 of the preseason! That means itâs time to see our favorites players suit up more along with watching the key plays that will affect pivotal roster decisions. The Patriots are coming into this game 1-0 with a strong 22-13 victory against The Washington Football Team while the Eagles are coming in 0-1 after a 24-16 loss to the Steelers.

In game number one, the Patriots had a couple of impressive standouts including fourth-round rookie Running Back Rhamondre Stevenson who ran 10 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles most impressive player was surprisingly Joe Flacco, who led the second team to a 79-yard touchdown pass, completing 10 of 17 passes for 178 yards on the night. While Jalen Hurts still has his starting job secured, that was probably the best performance weâve seen from Flacco in a while.

With Philly Resting Most Of Its Starters This Was A Lopsided Affair

Less than four calendar years ago, the Eagles and Patriots met in the Super Bowl, producing one of the biggest offensive showcases in the history of the NFL’s championship game. On Thursday night, they clashed again, but this time amid entirely different circumstances. Kicking off Week 2 of the 2021 preseason, Philadelphia rested most of its starters ahead of its anticipated regular-season kickoff of Nick Sirianni’s youth movement. That included quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was a surprise absentee due to a last-minute illness. The Patriots, meanwhile, got sharp performances from Cam Newton and Mac Jones in their bid to get one step closer to crowning a true Tom Brady successor going into the new year, claiming an easy 35-0 victory in the process.

Here are our instant takeaways from Thursday night’s Eagles-Patriots showdown:

Loser: Te Devin Asiasi

Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith, and Matt LaCosse were all inactive entering the game against Philadelphia with various injuries. This left Asiasi as the only tight end on the roster.

Despite getting reps at multiple points in the game, Asiasi only saw one target that resulted in an incompletion.

Asiasi was a third-round pick last season and lost his job to the two newcomers this offseason and may even find himself behind LaCosse. This was not the type of performance that inspires confidence in the young tight end.

The ‘oh And A Lot Of Other Guys Didn’t Play’ Award : A Bunch Of Starters

The entire first-team defensive line didn’t play. Neither did the first-team offensive line. Neither did Darius Slay.

Hell, the third-team defensive line that got pushed around throughout the entire second half of the first preseason game was playing in the first quarter. How did that go? Well…

Poor DE at the top of the screen. Gets obliterates by the RB then finally picks himself up, only to get shoved back by the RT. Also, smart by the RT. I think theres rules against how aggressive you can be when hes on the ground but once he gets back up, fair game.

Don’t Miss: Donald Trump Quote From People Magazine 1998

Why Bet On The Philadelphia Eagles

Its been a disappointing 2020 season for the Eagles after failing to make the playoffs for the first time in four years. They faced internal problems that held back the team. The tension between Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz affected the entire team, and general manager Howie Roseman faced difficulties containing the conflict. Eventually, the team survived 2020, but it came at a price.

Although weve yet to see rookie DeVonta Smith in the preseason due to injury, the Eagles saw Quez Watkins step up in their opening preseason game. The second-year wideout led the team with 79 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Seasoned signal-caller Joe Flacco displayed his prowess as well after going 10 of 17 for 178 passing yards and a touchdown, while Jalen Hurts hit 3 of 7 for 54 passing yards. Theres a good chance that we see Flacco in the next game together with Nick Mullens.

The ‘none Of This Matters Buuuuuut’ Award : The Eagles’ Grossness

How to Watch Patriots vs Eagles Preseason Game Online ...

Yeah, it’s a preseason game, and yeah, the Eagles’ players that matter played a hell of a lot better during joint practices between these two teams this week, but they still got their asses handed to them, which isn’t ideal.

  • The lost 35-0, as you saw.
  • They got outgained, 486-163.
  • The Pats had 31 first downs to the Eagles’ 14.
  • Eh, I could keep going, but whatever.

    Mac Jones Vs Jalen Hurts

While Cam Newton is still the projected starter for New England, Mac Jones will be running the show in this game. Well see a lot of Jones and Jalen Hurts in this game, with both quarterbacks needing the preseason snaps and coaching staffs happy to let them learn through their mistakes.

    • Unleash the Hurts Philadelphia isnt naming Hurts its official starting quarterback, but the decision is made. The second-year pro is the leader of this team and there have been some positive reports out of training camp. Expect Bill Belichick to make him beat the Patriots from the pocket.
    • Mac Attack: After generating rave reviews in minicamp and building upon that momentum in training camp, Jones looked sharp in his NFL debut. A 68% completion rate is great, but we do want to see that 4.6 ypa rise dramatically in Week 2.

    Advantage: Philadelphia Eagles

Cam Newton And Mac Jones Both Play Well

Cam Newton and Mac Jones have both been impressive so far this offseason. Newton seems comfortable under center and determined to have a bounce-back year. Meanwhile, Jones has played above expectations as he prepares to become the starting quarterback one day. This has been a tight race throughout and the second preseason game might make the decision even more difficult for the coaching staff.

    • Copied!

The Patriots put together a solid showing in their second preseason game of 2021 against the Eagles, winning the game 35-0, but more importantly making good strides as the regular season rapidly approaches.

Defensively, the team got off to a great start, capitalizing on a botched snap which the offense then turned into an early lead. From there, the Pats would keep rolling with both Cam Newton and Mac Jones under center, while the defense forced multiple turnovers, gave up just 163 yards of offense and allowed no points on the board.

After two joint practices and a satisfying win, it was a productive week in Philadelphia for the Pats, who now return home for the final preseason push.

Here are the five key takeaways from the win!

    Eagles Being Cautious With Injuries

Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni appear to be on the same page in regards to dialing things back and ensuring that the Eagles personnel enters the regular season healthy and prepared.

The Eagles rested the bulk of their defensive starters and a good chunk of their starting offense Thursday night, along with Jalen Hurts illness. Philadelphia saw what they needed to from the regulars during joint practices.

    New England Vs Philadelphia Moneyline

    New England -120, Philadelphia +100

New England opened as a -2.5 favorite with a moneyline at -135. But the market has shifted towards Philadelphia.

Normally with a 1-point line, it’s tempting to just jump on the moneyline and buy that extra point with the notion that the game almost certainly won’t end in a tie. However, this is preseason football, and there’s no overtime in preseason football anymore which allows for a better chance at a tie — especially when neither team cares that much about winning.

As for picking a side, the common sentiment out of joint practices gave the edge to the Eagles. Jalen Hurts was said to be the most impressive quarterback on the field, but to be fair, the Patriots also were without their starting tight ends.

Still, it feels like the Eagles are healthier and playing better than a team that has a regular season win total of 6.5. But there have been rumblings that Philly’s starters won’t see much time in this game.

On the other hand, you have a legitimate quarterback competition unfolding for New England with Cam Newton and Mac Jones both jockeying for the Week 1 starting spot. One would imagine that they’ll combine for a heavy majority of the reps. However, they’re still lacking weapons: The only tight end to practice Tuesday was Devin Asiasi.
