Why Are Patriots Tickets So Expensive

Don't Miss

How Much Does It Cost To Attend A New England Patriots Game

Why are Super Bowl Tickets so expensive?!? #nfl #superbowl #tickets

If youve decided to leave the couch behind this season and attend a live New England Patriots game, you can do it without breaking the bank. Theres little more satisfying than getting to see your favorite team play in person and enjoying the experience of the stadium, the fans, the players and the wonderful and tantalizing aroma of the stadium food. You can catch the Pats play at home at Gillette Stadium and have the time of your life. Its important to have an idea of the cost involved if youre working with a budget. Weve put together an information package that gives you the average cost to attend a game, along with the highs and lows of parking, tickets, and concessions in one tidy package to help you plan.

Hockey And Basketball Games

The National Hockey League has an average ticket price in 2022 is on average $94, which means a family of four will pay approximately $376. According to data for SeatGeek, you’ll pay the same average price for NBA games. If you want to watch a high-profile team like the Lakers play, that price goes up significantly to $159 on average.

The range between each sport’s lowest and highest priced tickets is extensive. In football, the highest average price is more than twice the cheapest ticket price. The reason is that sports tickets are viewed as commodities. Just as the price of gold is based on a complex set of economic factors, the cost of game tickets includes a host of variables.

Some sports teams offer lower prices for family packages that include tickets, hot dogs, and drinks, but even those prices can be hefty for those on a budget.

Consumer Price Index And Inflation Raise Ticket Costs

People have adjusted their spending habits as the consumer price index rises at unprecedented rates.

With inflation rates at an all-time high, many consumers are limiting spending on day-to-day items, but not on experiences.

This new focus on experiences means that live sports are in high demand.

With inflation as high as it is, along with the high demand for in-person sporting events, NFL owners can charge pretty much what they want and the fans will come.

As weve seen, consumer behavior doesnt change when it comes to sports expenditures and good times.

‘it’s Insane’: Tom Brady’s Return To Gillette Stadium Has Ticket Prices Soaring

FOXBORO – Sunday’s showdown between Tom Brady and the New England Patriots is the most-anticipated matchup of the season. And the proof is in the ticket prices.

Resale ticket agencies such as Ace Ticket show the cost of admission to see New England take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ranges from $337 to just over $4,500 a seat.

StubHub said Sunday’s tilt is the No. 1 in-demand NFL game of the season, outselling the next highest-selling matchup between the Cowboys and Bucs by 20% in ticket sales.

The get-in price for tickets bought through StubHub is $275, with an average ticket price of $1,222.

“Not quite . Obviously the upper echelon sort of seats are going to be in that range,” Martin said. “But it’s definitely the highest price. I’ve been with Ace for 20 years. I’ve never seen a regular season football game sell for as high as this one.”

So when did demand for tickets start to skyrocket?

“Day 1. We knew the Bucs were coming here, we just didn’t know the date. As soon as the date was set it’s been full speed ahead ever since,” Martin said.

Hearing what it would cost to see Tom Brady’s return to Foxboro in person, some fans expressed sticker shock.

“It’s insane,” one fan said. “I’ve heard up to $4,000. It’s crazy. I’d rather stay at home and watch the game with my wife.”

Others expected nothing less.

“That’s just the way everything is, right? Nothing’s going down in life. Everything’s going up. So it’s not surprising,” one fan said.

The Good Bad And Ugly From The Green Bay Packers Win Over The San Francisco 49ers

Along with the New York Jets and Denver Broncos, young teams that may improve next season, Cincinnati and Tampa Bay are two teams with some serious buzz heading into the fall. The Bengals ride a wave of optimism after drafting Ohio native quarterback Joe Burrow first overall in last months draft, while the Buccaneers have never been more popular after signing Tom Brady and trading for Rob Gronkowski.

With Brady no longer a member of the Patriots, ticket prices for New England home games has decreased by 39%, the highest drop in the league. Thats followed by a 22% decrease in Chicago Bears tickets, an 8% drop in Los Angeles Chargers prices and a 2% dip for the Detroit Lions.

Despite the Chargers expected move to new SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, which theyll share with the L.A. Rams which saw a 46% increase in average secondary price the drop in prices could have to do with the dramatic increase in capacity SoFi will have compared to Dignity Health Sports Park. Though the Bolts managed to average 31,750 fans into a stadium with a listed capacity of 27,000, it was the lowest average number in the league by more than 15,000 per game. Cincinnati finished 31st.

The Giants, the Jets MetLife Stadium neighbors in East Rutherford, N.J., have seen its secondary ticket quantity decrease by 60% since last year. Green Bay, Washington and Pittsburgh round out the top five.

New Stadiums Mean Higher Ticket Costs

When an NFL team moves into a new facility, ticket costs rise an average of 35%.

In the short term, a new building is lovely, but it exacerbates the problems in the long run by reducing the number of people who can afford to attend games regularly.

SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, are the two newest full-time NFL stadiums.

Both stadiums opened up for the 2020 NFL season.

SoFi Stadium, which houses both the Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers, debuted in September 2020 after reportedly costing somewhere between $5 billion and $6 billion to construct.

SoFi Stadium is regarded as the first indoor-outdoor arena of its sort, having open sides and a translucent ceiling.

The Los Angeles Chargers, with their new stadium, have the third most expensive NFL ticket in 2022, averaging $361 per ticket.

A new $1.9 billion domed stadium for the Las Vegas Raiders was built utilizing a combination of private and public financing after the NFL formally approved the Raiders move from Oakland to Las Vegas in 2017.

With the new stadium, the Las Vegas Raiders ticket prices are one of the highest in the league in 2022.

On the secondary market, a Las Vegas Raiders home game ticket at Allegiant Stadium in 2022 costs $595.

In addition to Allegiant Stadium and SoFi Stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium and U.S. Bank Stadium opened up within the last six NFL seasons.

The Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United play in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

What Does Dynamic Pricing Mean About Ticket Prices

Dynamic ticket pricing allows teams to earn more money by selling tickets at a wide variety of prices and seating. This means a ticket in the “nosebleed” seats of a stadium is considerably less than mid-center seats. In addition, home games versus away games and popular opponents are also factored into dynamic pricing as well.

How Dynamic Pricing In Sports Began

Dynamic ticket pricing means profits for franchises, and it gained traction about 12 years ago. In 2010, when the San Francisco Giants tried dynamic ticket pricing with only 2,000 seats in the furthest corners of the stadium, they reported selling 25,000 extra tickets and earning an additional $500,000 throughout one season. This was in 2010, so imagine what it would cost in 2022.

Studies show that franchisees make more money using dynamic ticket pricing. Because of that, nearly all professional sporting events now use this method over a decade after teams began to use dynamic pricing to sell seats.

Higher Demand Means Higher Cost

Buyers will treat NFL tickets as a high commodity item as long as more individuals want to buy them than actual tickets are available.

Therefore, as a result of the sports popularity and the high demand, NFL tickets are notoriously expensive.

While it might be tempting to place the blame for the high ticket costs on the owners of the NFL teams, its best to blame the fans who are willing to purchase tickets at high prices.

If the fans werent supporting the demand, then the prices wouldnt remain high.

Conversely, the demand is lower during preseason games because most starting players dont play in the preseason.

Because of this, season ticket holders tend to avoid attending preseason games as well as games against teams with little star power.

As those games approach, youll likely be able to find plenty of unsold seats at reasonable prices in the secondary marketplace.

Why Are Chicago Bears Tickets So Expensive

Nowadays, its not easy or cheap to get tickets to an NFL game. Even before the pandemic of 2020 threw a wrench into the whole operation, cheap NFL tickets were in short supply. The Chicago Bears, in particular, were near the top of the list of the most expensive tickets. In 2019, Chicago Bears single-game tickets were more expensive than every other team except the New England Patriots. But why is that the case and are Chicago Bears tickets in 2021 going to be any cheaper? Its a topic worth exploring if youre planning to buy Bears tickets or NFL tickets in general in the near future. Lets dive a little deeper into why are Chicago Bears tickets so expensive.

Why NFL and NHL Tickets Cost Way More Than NBA and MLB Tickets

Will Super Bowl tickets get cheaper? Even if they do, were still talking over 4 grand. As crazy as that is, there are also other reasons why the average NFL fan will never, ever get to attend a Super Bowl:

Peripheral costs

Lets say that someway, somehow, you managed to get Super Bowl tickets at face value. Unless you live within driving distance, youre going to have to pay ridiculously inflated prices for everything from airfare to hotel rooms to parking. That giddy feeling you got from paying only $1000 a ticket will quickly disappear when you realize its going to cost you $4000 for your 2-day stay.

Take-it-or-leave-it ticket packages

You found a great deal for a room at AirBnB. And you dont need no stinkin tailgate party. All you want is a ticket to the big game at the best possible price

But if you want in at On Location Experiences , the Official Hospitality of the NFL, then youre getting a hotel room and access to a tailgate party whether you like it or not. And all for the low price of $6000. $6299, to be exact, was the cheapest package for Super Bowl LII.

Ticket speculation

What is ticket speculation? Its the practice of selling tickets when you dont actually have the tickets or even the rights to them. According to this ESPN article, this is common among online ticket brokers.

Season Tickets And The Rise Of The Secondary Market

According to NFL insiders, a teams season-ticket holder base is about 80%.

However, in many situations, the bulk of a teams season-ticket buyers are ticket brokers.

The secondary ticket market consists of tickets that ticket brokers first purchase from a teams box office, also known as the primary ticket market.

Then the ticket brokers sell the tickets on the secondary market.

For example, SeatGeek is a ticket marketplace where customers may sell their tickets on the secondary market, but it is also the primary ticketing tool for some leagues and venues.

Ticket prices on the secondary market fluctuate significantly more than those on the primary market.

Secondary market tickets cost more than face value if primary market tickets are underpriced or if tickets are challenging to find.

Teams are aware that fans buy on the secondary market.

To get around the exclusivity clauses, teams sell season tickets to brokers, who then sell individual game tickets to fans on secondary market sites.

The ticketing corporation and the venue can only generate money this way.

Season tickets, on the other hand, do not have service fees.

The advantage of the secondary market, however, is that you can almost always use it to get tickets to an event after they have sold out at the box office.

The disadvantage is that theyre likely to be a lot more expensive.

The laws of supply and demand govern this secondary market.

  • Las Vegas Raiders $739
  • Pittsburgh Steelers $580
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers $516

What Is Nfl Refund Policy For 2020 Tickets

While each team is selling tickets differently by team, the league has a global refund policy as stated in the memo to all 32 teams recently. Under the policy, if a game is cancelled, or is played under conditions that prohibit fans from attending, anyone purchasing a ticket directly from the club will have the option of either receiving a full refund or applying the amount paid toward a future ticket purchase directly from the club.”

In addition to primary market availability, there are also tickets available on the secondary market for the majority of teams. On the secondary market, TicketIQ has Fee-Free tickets with a Refund Guarantee, which states that if an event is cancelled or deem unfit for fans to attend, TicketIQ will refund ticket buyers within as early as 15 days. That means that you can buy from TicketIQ without worrying about cancellation.

Also, if you find the same ticket for less on another secondary market ticket for less on a site like StubHub or Vivid Seats, well give you 200% of the difference in ticket credit.

That $777 number is 43.8 percent increase from the Patriots’ 2018 average ticket price, according to TicketIQ, as the defending Super Bowl champions saw a higher price hike than every team but the reloaded Cleveland Browns, who added Odell Beckham Jr., Olivier Vernon and Sheldon Richardson during a busy offseason.

Always A Price On Premium Seats

Whether its the Bears or any other pro sports franchise, there will always be fans who are willing to pay whatever it costs for premium seating. While the experience of watching games on TV is betting than ever, theres nothing that can replicate being a few yards from the field during an NFL game and being on top of the action. For most people, those kinds of experiences dont come around too often, and so they will always accept the high price attached to those tickets. At the end of the day, as long as people are willing to pay the high prices to see the Bears or any other NFL team and get an experience that cant be replicated on TV, the cost of tickets will remain high.

Why The Prices Of Sports Tickets Vary So Much
