On a recent Tuesday, residents at Patriot Place Apartments gathered on the facilitys third floor for arts and crafts, accompanied by emotional support dogs.
On Clyda Byrd-Lopezs lap was a white Maltese named Jazzy in a green sweater, perched on her front paws as her owner stained wood.
On the floor, Amy, a Beagle mix, sniffed each of the residents, who had all moved into the apartment building off Pecos and Flamingo roads by the end of last year.
Their new homes are owned by Accessible Space Inc. The Las Vegas-based nonprofit organization that provides housing for adults with disabilities opened Patriot Place Apartments on July 28, after 14 months of construction.

Roughly 2,000 people remain on the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authoritys waiting list for the apartments, said Devin Vander Schaaf, marketing coordinator for Accessible Space.
Those 25 apartments are funded by vouchers provided by the Regional Housing Authority and the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program.

Project Based Voucher Program
These developments are privately owned. The Housing Authority determines initial eligibility and maintains the waiting list. The owner of these properties will make the final decision to accept or reject an applicant as a tenant.
- The Juan Garcia property is privately owned and includes units from 1 to 4 bedrooms. The subsidies are tied to the actual units.
- Coronado Drive Apartments has 30 units and includes 1 to 2 bedrooms for seniors/disabled families only.
- Patriots Place Apartments has 49 units including 1 and 2 bedrooms. Wheelchair Accessible apartments are also available for persons with qualifying disabilities. Preference will be given to qualifying U.S. Veterans. The subsidies are tied to the actual units.
- Allegiance Apartments has 49 units including 1 and 2 bedrooms. Wheelchair Accessible apartments are also available for persons with qualifying disabilities. Accessible Space, Inc. is pleased to announce that Patriot Place Apartments, an accessible, affordable supportive housing community with a priority preference for qualifying U.S. Veterans opened its doors after 14 months of construction on July 28, 2017. Located at 4245 South Pecos Road in Las Vegas, Patriot Place Apartments has 41, one-bedroom and 9, two-bedroom apartments which respectively provide 730 sq. ft. and 960 sq. ft. of living space.
Patriot Place Apartments provides rental assistance/subsidy which will ensure that resident paid rents are truly affordable, thanks to Project Based Vouchers provided by the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority . In addition, 13 apartments are fully furnished and set-aside specifically for low-income veterans with a disability and who are facing the challenges of homelessness. With special funding from the Veterans Administration Supportive Housing Program , ASI is honored to be the first affordable housing community in Nevada to provide permanent supportive housing and project-based, VASH vouchers at Patriot Place Apartments.
Twenty-five apartments are fully wheelchair accessible and include custom-designed, oversized roll-in showers, adjustable closet shelves, roll-under counters and sinks in the kitchen and bath, and front loading washers and dryers, among other amenities.
