Chinas state newspaper China Daily published a column on Thursday that accuses the United States of having a history of bacteriological warfare. Is it possible that the communist country is attempting to pawn off their dirty deeds onto America?
The article implies that the U.S. military brought the virus over to Wuhan, China. I guess its just a coincidence that they have labs in Wuhan that specialize in such matters.

In times of national crisis, the American people typically come together behind their president.
But not this one.
Donald Trump isnt benefiting from what political scientists refer to as a rally round the flag effect a traditional surge in popularity as the nation unites behind its leader during an emergency situation.
Even as the country confronts the greatest disruption to daily life since World War II, a series of new polls released this week show Trumps approval ratings plateauing in the mid-40s, roughly where his approval rating stood a month ago, before the coronavirus shuttered much of the nations economic and social activity.
In other words, public views of Trumps leadership in the coronavirus crisis are now breaking down along familiar lines of polarization: Americans view his performance during the pandemic about the same way they view his performance generally.

Twenty years ago, when I was a major on active duty in the US Air Force, a major concern was the possible corroding of civil-military relations in particular, a growing gap between the military and the civilians who were supposed to control them. Im a clipper of newspaper articles and I saved some from that long-gone era. Sharp divergence found in views of military and civilians, reported the New York Times in September 1999. Civilians, military seen growing apart, noted the Washington Post a month later. Such pieces were picking up on trends already noted by distinguished military commentators like Thomas Ricks and Richard Kohn. In July 1997, for instance, Ricks had written an influential Atlantic article, The Widening Gap between the Military and Society. In 1999, Kohn gave a lecture at the Air Force Academy titled The Erosion of Civilian Control of the Military in the United States Today.
How has the civil-military relationship changed in the last two decades? Despite bending on social issues , todays military is arguably neither more liberal nor less partisan than it was in the Clinton years. It certainly hasnt returned to its citizen-soldier roots via a draft. Change, if its come, has been on the civilian side of the divide as Americans have grown both more militarized and more partisan . In this century, the civil-military divide of a generation ago has been bridged by endless celebrations of that military as the best of us .

Poll: Trump Backed By Majority Of Veterans But Not Younger Ones
Older veterans are overwhelmingly backing President Donald Trump in the upcoming election while younger veterans significantly prefer former Vice President Joe Biden as the next commander in chief, according to the results of a recent Military Times poll of veterans.
Altogether, about 52 percent of veterans surveyed said they plan to back Trump in his reelection campaign this year. About 42 percent said they have voted or plan to vote for Biden instead, with the remainder split between third-party candidates and sitting out the election.
The findings which overall echo other public polls of veterans voting preferences show a stark divide among different age, race and gender groups within the veterans community, even as most share broader views on national security and dissatisfaction with the countrys political environment.
The poll was conducted in partnership with the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University between Oct. 1 and Oct. 13. More than 1,700 veterans, whose prior military service was verified through past interaction with Military Times, took part in the survey.
Like past polls of active-duty personnel, the results of the veterans poll represent a segment of the community that spent more time in the military than the average service member and generally was more focused on the military as a career than other peers.

Polls Put Trumps Approval Rating Lower
Despite the recent decline in Biden’s approval, Trump’s ratings were lower during his time in office.
“Biden’s approval rating has clearly taken a turn for the worse in the past several weeks, but he is still faring better than Trump at this point in their presidencies,” Burden said. “Trump had one of the lowest and steadiest approval ratings of any modern president.”
FiveThirtyEight put the polling average for Trump’s approval rating at 38.8% on Sept. 9, 2017, his first year in office. The lowest point of his term came on Dec. 16, 2017, with an average approval rate of 36.4%.
This claim is also wrong looking only at the YouGov poll.
YouGov reported Trumps approval rating never increased far above 40% and reached a term low of 34% in a poll conducted Nov. 10-14, 2017.
In other words, Trump’s low is well below Biden’s current level in YouGov polling.
According to Gallup, Trumps approval rating ranged between 34% and 49% over the course of his presidency. Trump hit the lower end of that range in January, following the insurrection at the Capitol.

A few months back, I wrote a note to one of my senators to complain about Americas endless wars and received a signed reply via email. Im sure you wont be surprised to learn that it was a canned response, but no less telling for that. My senator began by praising American troops as tough, smart, and courageous, and they make huge sacrifices to keep our families safe. We owe them all a true debt of gratitude for their service. OK, I got an instant warm and fuzzy feeling, but seeking applause wasnt exactly the purpose of my note.
My senator then expressed support for counterterror operations, for, that is, conducting limited, targeted operations designed to deter violent extremists that pose a credible threat to Americas national security, including al-Qaeda and its affiliates, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria , localized extremist groups, and homegrown terrorists. My senator then added a caveat, suggesting that the military should obey the law of armed conflict and that the authorization for the use of military force that Congress hastily approved in the aftermath of 9/11 should not be interpreted as an open-ended mandate for perpetual war.
I know what youre thinking: What choice does Warren have but to play it safe? She cant go on record criticizing the military. If she doesnt support a strong US military presence globally, how could she remain a viable presidential candidate in 2020?

Is This Indicative Of Trump Losing His Own Party’s Support
Many signs seem to point to the answer being yes. While Trump has enjoyed steady approval ratings among Republican voters since leaving office, the winds began to shift following the recent midterm elections. The Democrats did significantly better during the midterms than expected and much of the blame for this was placed on Trump, who saw almost all of his endorsed candidates lose by large margins.
Many in the GOP were quick to brand the former president a loser, and some, such as former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, are urging others in the party to leave Trump behind. It seems voters are feeling the same way, with a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll obtained by The Hill reporting that 20 percent of respondents said Trump was the biggest loser of the midterms.
The co-director of the poll, Mark Penn, told The Hill that the results were indicative of Trump becoming a weaker candidate after the midterms. Add to this the fact that he personally endorsed losing candidates, and Penn told the outlet there was a real possibility that Trump would have a significant battle in a GOP primary.

Trump Faces Yet Another Reckoning In Georgia
Donald Trump is 0-for-an awful lot in Georgia since 2016.
While the ex-president won the Peach State six years ago en route to the White House, its been a disastrous playing field for him ever since, rejecting his first reelection bid and his midterm revenge candidates. His former aides and allies, meanwhile, are being in the state investigating his efforts to overthrow President Joe Bidens win there in 2020.
On Tuesday, Trumps run of Georgia futility could continue unless Heisman Trophy-winning ex-Georgia running back Herschel Walker can drag the MAGA banner over the line.
The Georgia Senate runoff represents Trumps final opportunity to recast a painful midterm season in which his election-denying candidates flopped in swing states, casting a shadow over his nascent 2024 presidential bid. A Walker win would be a rare victory for one of Trumps recruits and potentially energize his lackluster campaign, while helping Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell limit Democratic power in Washington.
But a Walker loss would add to frustration in the GOP over Trumps political meddling, after his obsession with false voter fraud claims was widely blamed for costing the party control of the Senate in a pair of Georgia runoffs in 2021.
Democrats Get A Reminder: Their Base Is Not Very Liberal
The other big political story of this week happened about as far away from Washington, DC, as you can get in the contiguous United States. Progressive San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin got recalled on Tuesday night. At the same time, in the nonpartisan primary for Los Angeles mayor, progressive US Rep. Karen Bass was forced into a November runoff by businessman Rick Caruso.
Both results showed the potency of a tough-on-crime message, even in Democratic strongholds, as I discussed earlier this week.
But they also demonstrate that Democrats overall arent anywhere near as liberal as many progressives wish they were.
Take a look at a CNN/SSRS poll from earlier this year. Among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, 64% identified as moderate or conservative. Just 17% said they were very liberal, with the remainder indicating they were somewhat liberal.
Other polling isnt nearly as dramatic, though it makes the same point. Summer 2021 data from the Pew Research Center poll for instance showed that 15% of Democrats were very liberal, while 52% were either moderate , conservative or very conservative . The 2020 general election exit poll showed that just 42% of Biden voters were liberal, while 58% were moderate or conservative.
Its no wonder then that even in cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco, which Biden won by over 50 points, progressives are far from shoo-ins.

The poll also finds 27% of Americans approving and 69% disapproving of the job Congress is doing. These figures have been steady since June but are down from 36% approval in March.
More broadly, Gallup has tracked Americans satisfaction with the way the U.S. is being governed annually since 2001. The latest reading finds that 30% of U.S. adults are satisfied with the nations governance. Since 2010, satisfaction has consistently registered below 40% it was last above 50% in 2003.

In Gallup’s annual poll asking Americans to name the man they admire the most, Trump placed second to Obama in 2017 and 2018, tied with Obama for most admired man in 2019, and was named most admired in 2020. Since Gallup started conducting the poll in 1948, Trump is the first elected president not to be named most admired in his first year in office.

Nearly a year into his presidency, President Joe Bidenâs approval rating is still higher than Donald Trumpâs was at the same point in his presidency, but it remains underwater ahead of the 2022 midterms.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll from December 2017 found 35 percent of Americans approved of the job Trump was doing as president. That included 76 percent of Republicansless than the support Biden now has from his own party31 percent of independents and 10 percent of Democrats.
