When Is The Patriots Last Preseason Game

Don't Miss

Patriot Train From Boston To Gillette Stadium

Patriots Training Camp Recap: Final Practice Before First Preseason Game

The Patriot Train departs from North Station and takes you directly to Gillette Stadium. This is by far the easiest way to get to the game because you avoid the hassle of being stuck in traffic when leaving the stadium.

In case you’re wondering, the Patriot Train is a special version of Boston’s Commuter Rail. It takes you right to the stadium on a section of tracks only used on game days.

Getting to Gillette Stadium from Boston on the Patriot Train takes slightly more than an hour.

Football And Fans Return To Foxborough

For the first time in over a year and a half, the fans returned to Gillette. The Patriots faithful were without question excited to return to the stands, but they were probably just as excited to get a first glimpse of their rookie quarterback Mac Jones.

New England and Washington starting quarterbacks, Cam Newton and Ryan Fitzpatrick both began the game under center, but only played a few series before the the second string QBs took over.

The Patriots Pass Rush Is Going To Be Fun To Watch

Weve seen it all summer. The Patriots have the potential to have an elite and versatile pass rusher. We saw that for a few series on Sunday night.

Josh Uche was a problem last week in joint practices and then again was a problem for the Giants on Sunday. The second-year linebacker sacked Daniel Jones on the third play of the game – 13:33 of the first quarter. Rookie Christian Barmore also helped disrupt that play. The defensive tackle notched a quarterback hit on Jones in the first quarter and looks like hell help the pass rush this season.

Josh Uche:Doing his best to emulate Matt Judon

Jones was also sacked by JaWhaun Bentley and Deatrich Wise at 4:10 of the first quarter. The Pats had five quarterback hits and two sacks on Jones through two Giants drives. Here’s another name to watch – Bill Murray. The undrafted defensive lineman had 1.5 sacks on Sunday.

The starters didnt play a lot on Sunday, but the Patriots defense had Jones running for his life to start this game. It was very similar last week during joint practices. Uche looked especially dominant during these sessions. After his sack, he also had a quarterback hit on Jones at 13:12 of the second quarter.

Add in Matt Judon, Kyle Van Noy, Donta Hightower and Chase Winovich and this group could be special.

Patriots Injury Report Vs Giants For Preseason Week 3

The Patriots are mostly healthy, though theyll be without NKeal Harry, who sustained a shoulder injury in Week 2 against the Eagles. The third-year WR will be out a minimum of four weeks, so dont expect to see him on Sunday.

Stephon Gilmore, meanwhile, is continuing to rehab from quad surgery. Belichick recently called the star cornerback day-to-day, so well update his status later in the week if he returns to practice.

Neither offense got going early on, and but the Patriots moved the ball down the field through the first few possessions. While neither Newton nor Jones could punch the ball through the end zone in the first half, the Pats led late in the first half 6-0. Quinn Nordin, who as of a few weeks ago was looking for a job on LinkedIn, two field goals in the opening two quarters for New England.

Washington finally got going on the offensive end in the final possession of the first half. Heinicke drove the visitors down 64 yards in the final three minutes to put Washington on the board when Peyton Barber barreled his way into the end zone with eight seconds to go in the second quarter.

Captain Matthew Slater: “It’s frustrating. There’s no excuse for it, to play like that. Come out flat. Uncharacteristic penalties. Basic stuff we were getting beat on fundamentally, not being sound. … I hope that’s not us. I don’t believe that’s us. I think we’ve shown we can be much better. I think this is a good wake-up call for us.”

On a running play designed for Indianapolis’ Jonathan Taylor Saturday, Colts receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and New England cornerback Kyle Dugger engaged in a scuffle that carried over after the whistle and ended up in an ejection for both players.

New England Patriots Loser No : Isaiah Wynn

Things certainly didnt get off to a great start for Isaiah Wynn. On the Pats third offensive play of the game, Wynn allowed Chase Young to blow by him and get a clean shot on Cam Newton. Newton was lucky to get the football out in time to prevent a fumble from occurring.

Defense Wins Championships And Preseason Games

The home team got another field goal from Nordin early in the third quarter, but the turning point of the game came when Joejuan Williams intercepted Steven Montez and brought the Patriots in the redzone on the return. Rhamondre Stevenson got five straight touches and capped off the drive with a one yard touchdown run to take a 15-7 lead after Nordin missed the PAT.

Washington drove 92 yards down the field and had a chance to tie the game up with under 100 seconds left after Montez found Lamar Miller on a four yard pass. The two point conversion was originally ruled good as Antonio Gandy-Golden snagged the ball, landed on his knee with possession, but the refs went to review and overruled the call on the field.

Mac Jones Has A Bright Future

This part should be emphasized the Pats are in a good spot with their quarterback position.

Even if Jones sits to start this season, hell almost certainly start the 2022 NFL season as the Patriots starting quarterback. On Sunday night, Jones showed everyone why. He also showed why many think he could handle being a starting NFL quarterback right now.

Jones was 3-of-5 for 48 yards at halftime. He finished 10/14 for 156 yards with a touchdown and a 131.8 passer rating.

The first-round pick looked the part in the third quarter. He had multiple highlight-reel passes. He started the third quarterback with a 27-yard pass to Kristian Wilkerson. ), Jones then hit Isaiah Zuber for a 17-yard touchdown at 12:11 of the third quarter. It was a really nice pass play from Jones. He looked off the safety before delivering a strike to Zuber in a tight window.

On the next drive, Jones helped the offense travel 50 yards in 1:37. He started this series off with a beautiful back-shoulder throw to Devin Asiasi for 30 yards before Rhamondre Steven capped it off with a touchdown run.

Sure, there were some rookie moments Jones held the ball too long and was sacked four times. You want to see him make quicker decisions. However, the rookie was great this summer. The Patriots have to be thrilled with their investment.

Robert Kraft Explains Why The Patriots’ Last Preseason Game Was Their ‘hardest’ Moment Of The Season

The toughest part of the New England Patriots’ season was not trailing the Atlanta Falcons by 25 points in Super Bowl LI, at least not according to Robert Kraft.

The toughest moment didn’t even come during the playoffs or during Tom Brady’s four-game suspension for Deflategate.

As Kraft told Peter King of MMQB, the toughest moment of the season in fact came after the last preseason game in September, because it meant the team knew they would not see Brady for a month.

Kraft told King:

“It was after our last preseason game . We knew we couldnt have any communication with Tom for four weeks, because of his suspension. Without question, that was our hardest moment of the year. Tom lives in the same neighborhood as me. So were naturally going to see each other in the neighborhood. But we couldnt have any contact whatsoever, and we were going to do this absolutely by the book. We werent going to do anything that would allow anyone to think we were violating the leagues order. No meetings, no calls, no texts. Nothing. Our bond goes beyond football, and to go a month during the season without communication with Tom That was really hard for me.”

Of course, Kraft did not make his feelings about the suspension a secret. When the sanctions first came down in 2015, Kraft ripped Roger Goodell for the punishment.

Luckily for Kraft, Brady and the Patriots capped off a 17-game revenge tour in about the best way possible.

New England Patriots: 3 Losers From First Preseason Game

New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles | Preseason Week 2 2021 NFL Game Highlights

Isaiah Wynn #76 of the New England Patriots

The New England Patriots first preseason game of the season is officially in the books, with the team picking up a solid 22-13 victory over the Washington Football Team. It was great to see the team back in action in a game setting, and making it even better was the return of fans to Gillette Stadium to watch the action unfold.

For the most part, there was a lot of good that came from the preseason opener. The offense was able to move the ball pretty consistently for the most part, regardless of who was under center, and the defense did a good job of shutting down Washingtons offense.

Even in victory however, there are always plays that could have been run better or players that could have run them better. Even in a relatively low stakes contest such as Thursday nights, that was certainly still the case.

While preseason games are ultimately unimportant to the outcome of the season, they are vital for players attempting to make the final cut. We already took a look at two players who were the stars of the game, but now its time to take a look on the other side of the fence. Here are three players who came out of the first preseason contest as losers.
