Running Backs Must Carry The Load On Offense
The Patriots key strength on offense is the offensive line and deep group of running backs, all of whom are capable of making significant contributions in this game. In order to keep the Dolphins defense from teeing off on Jones, they need to stay on schedule for down and distance. So that means Damien Harris, J.J. Taylor, James White and Rhamondre Stevenson need to stay productive on the ground while Taylor and White make contributions in the passing game.
If the Patriots are able to establish the run, that opens up the play-action passing game, something Jones has excelled in college and preseason. The defense hell face in Week 1 will be more complex than hes ever seen before, so it will be interesting to see how he handles it. The best thing the Patriots can do is simplify the game for him and not put the game on his shoulders.

The Patriots will need to utilize their play-calling to slow down the Dolphins interior D-line, with zone calls and misdirection plays potentially being successful.

The Patriots actually kicked off the 2020 regular season with a win over the Dolphins at home, and we actually love their chances to repeat doing so.
Jones is seemingly composed beyond his experience would suggest. The running game was unstoppable in the preseason, and the defense, though down Stephon Gilmore, finally has elite talent at all three levels again with a number of opt outs returning and new additions in free agency/the draft.
Thats all Bill Belichick needs. While Miami is not a team to overlook, something tells us Belichick will has something special planned for Tagovailoa, who has yet to show he can truly move the ball down field at the next level.

Dolphins Player To Take Away: Te Mike Gesicki
Wide receiver DeVante Parker may be a popular pick due to the fact the Patriots havent fared well against him the past couple years, but Gesicki might be more dangerous to the Patriots defense as a middle-of-the-field target and red-zone weapon. The Patriots will need to make sure he doesnt get free releases off the line of scrimmage and have a safety ready to help on him. While not a great blocker, his size, speed, athleticism and catch radius makes him a very difficult cover for any linebacker or defensive back in a one-on-on situation. If the Patriots can limit his production, that will force Tua to look outside and give the pass rush a bit more time to get home.

Alas, Shula has been impossible to replace since retiring after the 1995 season. The great Jimmy Johnson followed Shula, but even with Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino, Johnson never led the Dolphins past the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Over half a dozen coaches have tried their hand since the turn of the century but few have found success. The Dolphins have made just two playoff appearances, both losses, since 2002, struggling to live up to the legacy of the undefeated 1972 Dolphins.
Pats Defense Stepped Up Despite Loss
The Patriots defense only gave up 17 points. If that’s a preview of what’s to come over the next few months, New England is going to win a lot of games.
After giving up a touchdown on the Dolphins’ first drive, the Patriots defense settled in and made life difficult for Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins’ quarterback didn’t play too well, completing 16 of 27 passes for just 202 yards with one touchdown and a fourth-quarter interception that could’ve cost Miami the lead.

The Patriots allowed only six points in the second half. Overall, the defense surrendered just 259 total yards, tallied two sacks and held Miami to 3.2 yards per rush.

Penalties Fumbles Were Huge Problem
Penalties made the Patriots’ job so much harder than it needed to be Sunday. They committed eight penalties for 84 yards, three of which were totally avoidable personal foul calls.
The Patriots’ offensive line was flagged three times for 35 yards. Those penalties wiped out gains of 14, 33 and 17 yards.
Penalties were a problem in the preseason and it’s carried over into the regular season.
New England was the least penalized team in 2020, finishing with just 62 in 16 games. That was 12 fewer than the next least-penalized team .
The Patriots also fumbled the ball three times , including one by running back Damien Harris late in the fourth quarter that essentially sealed the win for the Dolphins.
