Why Is The Check Engine Light On In My Jeep
There are many reasons why the check engine light might come on in your Jeep, but not all of them are serious. For example, one of the more common reasons for the light to come on is a faulty gas cap. It might need replacing or it could simply be loose.
Sometimes a check engine light will come on when nothing is really wrong with your car. A change in humidity or other temporary changes in the environment could trigger the light. If thats the case, the light will go off by itself after a relatively short period of driving time.
However, an illuminated check engine light could also be a huge red flag being waved right in front of your face warning you of a more serious problem. Are you releasing excess pollutants? Are you consuming too much fuel? You just never know.
In short, if your check engine light comes on, you have two options:

Nightflight said:Anyone can go ahead and correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think it’s covered. The bumper to bumper warranty would cover it , but that lifetime powertrain warranty only covers what’s directly tied to the running of the car. So, if it’s not your transmission that’s shot or something like that, then it won’t be covered, just like an A/C compressor wouldn’t be covered.

I purchased the Jeep on 8/16/14. Check engine light on 9/8/14. Jeep was bucking and would not accelerate, felt like it was in a lower gear. Had not even made the first car payment. This is how the dealer corrected:
1. Found multiple codes incorrect in gear ratio in TCM2. Trans fluid was empty3. Vehicle inspected on lift showed fluid leaking from bell housing area4. Transmission, air box, battery, upper trans mount, front wheels, torque converter, etc. had to be REMOVED5. Trans pump had to be replaced and torque converter
I was given a rental car for 9 days while this issue was being corrected. Most of the wait time was due to the fact that the dealer had to order the part. I was very disappointed since I didn’t even have my new vehicle for a month.

The light should go off in turn though. If they cant clear it with the scanner, i would try a “hard clear” by disconnecting power for a while. Good luck.

Check Engine Light On Problem Of The 2008 Jeep Patriot
My 2008 Jeep Patriot hesitates, sputters, and stalls a few minute after I fill it up. If I don’t fill it all the way, it does not stall . I have started the practice of only filling 3/4 or pulling over in the gas station to let the car stall at idle before proceeding. When I first noticed the issue a few months ago, it stalled on me in traffic after leaving the fueling station. This was very dangerous. My mechanic at the dealer told me today he believes there is a bad liquid/vapor valve on the gas tank causing gas to enter an exhaust line leading to the carbon canister, and that a full gas tank replacement is needed to replace this bad valve. He also offered, that I could just continue to only fill the tank 3/4 and should be fine. At $2,000 to replaced the tank, I may need to consider having this work done by a non-Chrysler shop? I found this discussion online today, and everyone is having the exact same problem as me . Please take five minutes to review. . Read more…
