Talk to any Democrat and two things are certain to be heard: I hate Donald Trump and were banking on Robert Mueller to take him down. While special prosecutor Muellers RussiaGate investigation may ultimately prove collusion and/or obstruction of justice, the very likelihood is that this Republican-controlled Congress is simply gonna say, Hey thanks Bob, well take it all under advisement…and then walk away and throw the file in the trash. So my advice to Democrats is simple: dont bank on Mueller, Congress or anyone but yourselves. Just vote. Voters have all the power.
The blue tsunami thats been crashing against special-election shorelines should give Democrats more than just hope. Its a very strong indicator of massive voter anger, enthusiasm and engagement, all of which could result in a landslide next November. Stunning victories in Washington, New Jersey, Virginia and Alabama have created sheer panic in the GOP. And even where Democrats lost, i.e. Kansas, Georgia and South Carolina, the margins have been shockingly small compared to prior elections, giving the left momentum in states where they normally wouldnt have a shot in hell. Even by conservative estimates, its already looking pretty bleak for the GOP and we still have another ten months of Crazytown.

The investigation into Donald Trumps handling of classified national security records is forcing Republicans into a strained defense during a pre-midterm sprint in which theyd much rather be talking about Joe Biden.
After having decried the FBIs search of the ex-presidents home, many Trump defenders went silent uponthe release on Friday of the probable-cause affidavit that revealed the extent of Trumps efforts to hold onto the top-secret documents. GOP worries about the developments of the case and Trump announcing a 2024 run before November are giving way to a subtle, broader warning about putting the former president too much on the ballot this fall.
Republicans should focus on defeating Democrats, and every Democrat should have the word Biden in front of their name, said Trump ally and former Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich. The Republican focus should be to win the election in November. Trump will do a fine job defending himself. Hell be fine.

The anti-Donald Trump wing of the Republican Party is taking stock of its power — such as it is — and gauging what success looks like as it comes into perhaps its most defined form yet in the wake of some major defeats.
Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney’s primary loss this month, followed by her formation of a group targeting election deniers and her repeated openness to a 2024 presidential run, anointed her the de facto leader of the sliver of the GOP opposing the former president.
Joining Cheney in pushing for an alternative party leader are figures like outgoing Govs. Larry Hogan of Maryland and Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas — also floating 2024 presidential bids of their own — and retiring Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who launched his own anti-Trump PAC.
While the members of this wing have become more prominent, they do not all share the same approach.
As Cheney and her allies stare down long, if not impossible, odds in toppling Trump from his perch as GOP kingmaker and likely 2024 nominee, some of them say they’ll settle for trying to make Trump unpalatable to a general electorate in two years instead of a fatalistic bid to wrench the party from his grasp.
“Why couldn’t she shift some fundamental dynamic? Not to win a Republican primary, but to peel off voters or to help motivate soft Democrats,” Sarah Longwell, the executive director of Republican Accountability Project, told ABC News.

How To Block Donald Trump From Your Internet
If you’re suffering from overexposure to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, the Internet has a cure for that.
“Trump Filter,” a new Google Chrome extension created by self-described “punk rock technolologist” Rob Spectre, removes mentions of the GOP front-runner from any web page viewed on the browser, promising that “Donald simply disappears from your view.”
Available in Google’s Chrome Web Store, the feature allows the the user to “adjust your level of Trump filtration based on your mood or the website you are visiting.” It has three filter sensitivity levels — “mild,” “aggressive,” and “vindictive” — that a viewer can choose depending on just “how much you want to avoid the Donald.”
With the filter on, any news article — including anything from the CBS News website — with a mention of Trump simply appears as a blank web page.
The Brooklyn-based Spectre writes on his website that he is not affiliated with either the Republican or Democratic parties. Rather, Spectre created the open-source filter “out of a profound sense of annoyance and patriotic duty.”
Trump’s controversial presidential campaign has spawned a whole host of Internet memes and jokes, including some that similarly target the web-browsing experience in relation to the real estate mogul.
Developed by Fusion news site, one Chrome extension adds actual Donald Trump quotes to any mention of the billionaire’s name. The “Trumpweb” extension changes the web page text to look something like this:

Eliminate The Education Department
Since last year, Republican candidates have tried to capitalize on some parents objections to instruction about racism, sexual orientation and gender identity. Much of the activism has focused on local school boards, where many policy decisions affecting public schools are made. But Trump recently floated an additional leverage point at the federal level.
Across the country, we need to implement strict prohibitions on teaching inappropriate racial, sexual and political material to Americas schoolchildren in any form whatsoever, Trump said at CPAC, and if federal bureaucrats are going to push this radicalism, we should abolish the Department of Education.
The Education Department, created in 1980, has about 4,400 employees and a discretionary budget of more than $78 billion. Most of the money goes to grants for local agencies to serve disadvantaged or disabled students and to financial aid or loan subsidies for college students. Trump did not specify whether some or all of those functions would be reassigned to other agencies or eliminated.
While federal law prohibits the department from setting curriculums, its Office for Civil Rights has become a culture war target for its role in enforcing protections for women and LGBTQ students. And Republicans criticized the department last year for proposing a grant program on history and civics that referenced the New York Times Magazines 1619 Project and the anti-racism author Ibram X. Kendi.
Strip Job Protections For Federal Workers
In October 2020, Trump signed an executive order reclassifying tens of thousands of federal workers to remove their employment protections and make them easier to fire. The National Treasury Employees Union sued to stop the change, and before a court could rule on the challenge, Biden took office and revoked the order.
Lately, Trump has declared his intent to restore the change and put it to greater use. Hes gone further by calling on Congress to overhaul the civil service through a statute, which could be more sweeping and harder to reverse than an executive order.
Congress should pass historic reforms, empowering the president to ensure that any bureaucrat who is corrupt, incompetent or unnecessary for the job can be told did you ever hear this? Youre fired, Trump said at the July speech in Washington. Get out. Youre fired. Have to do it.
Though overhauling the civil service by reclassifying employees under a new category called Schedule F may sound geeky, its become a consistent applause line in Trumps speeches and even the basis for fundraising appeals.

Were just a month into the Trump presidency, and already so many are wondering: How can we end it?
One poll from Public Policy Polling found that as many Americans 46 percent favor impeachment of President Trump as oppose it. Ladbrokes, the betting website, offers even odds that Trump will resign or leave office through impeachment before his term ends.
Sky Bet, another site, is taking wagers on whether Trump will be out of office by July.
There have been more than 1,000 references to Watergate in the news media in the last week, according to the Nexis archival site, with even some conservatives calling for Trumps resignation or warning that he could be pushed out. Dan Rather, the former CBS News anchor who covered Watergate, says that Trumps Russia scandal isnt now at the level of Watergate but could become at least as big.
Maybe things will settle down. But what is striking about Trump is not just the dysfunction of his administration but also the vigorously denied allegations that Trumps team may have cooperated with Vladimir Putin to steal the election. Whats also different is the broad concern that Trump is both: A) unfit for office, and B) dangerously unstable. One pro-American leader in a foreign country called me up the other day and skipped the preliminaries, starting with: What the is wrong with your country?
Trumps Survival After Scandals
More than a year and a half since Trump left office, 58 percent of Americans hold an unfavorable view of him, according to this latest poll. That includes 89 percent of Democrats and 63 percent of independents. But 83 percent of Republicans say they still favor Trump, along with roughly a third of all Americans.
Trumps favorability among the GOP outpaces that of a handful of other Republicans who are considered potential rivals for a White House bid in 2024:
According to GOP strategist and conservative pollster Whit Ayres, most Republicans are also open to having a new candidate who carries less baggage than they believe Trump carries as their nominee in 2024.
It all depends on who the alternatives are, Ayres said. Most alternatives arent nationally known here.
Trumps political resilience is unlike anything else in U.S. presidential history, said Jeffrey Engel, who directs the Center for Presidential History at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
As with everything with Donald Trump, history gives us no guide, Engel said.
One comparison is tough to ignore, though todays political dynamics are nearly opposite. In 1974, after an investigation uncovered that President Richard Nixons reelection campaign had bugged the phones at the Democratic National Committee headquarters, Nixon resigned in disgrace before he could be impeached. He retreated from public life and partially rebuilt his reputation in foreign policy during the decades that followed, Engel said.

Democrats generally understand they will need federal employees to implement their policies, though they may believe that those employees need to be liberated from rules, Light added. Republicans have the same hierarchy, but are motivated by a different goal. Both parties in the past have come in saying, Weve got an agenda weve got four years, maybe eight, so we cant wait for action.
In the Trump administration, Light noted, many may agree with Bannons concept of a deep state, but are uncomfortable with that language.

Others are skeptical that many in Trumps circles actually buy into the notion of a deep state. If they had this theory of the deep state and were worried, the first thing they would do is appoint a lot of political appointees, said Donald Devine, who headed the Office of Personnel Management in the Reagan administration.
Norm Ornstein, a longtime observer of Washington at the American Enterprise Institute, is appalled at what he sees as Bannons promotion of a conspiracy theory of lawless people trying to undermine American values for their own warped sense and defying laws and property.

Conviction of a crime, with prosecution by Robert Mueller, is still the best bet. Of course, Trump has a few ways out of that. One is getting rid of Mueller. The other is the power of pardon.
The question of whether Trump could pardon himself is contentious. Some say its possible, others say no.
However, theres one maneuver which would permit Trump to be pardoned and still remain as president. He could be pushed aside under the 25th Amendment, which would give Mike Pence all the presidential powers. Pence could pardon Trump and then Trump could be readmitted to office.
Nothing in the 25th Amendment says that a President removed under that law loses his right to office permanently. Section 3 of the amendment says: Whenever the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President. In other words, Trump can remove himself through his own declaration and restore himself to office through a later declaration. In the meantime, Pence can pardon him.
This strategy might also work if Trump decides to pardon Flynn and Manafort to undercut Muellers use of either or both as witnesses against Trump. Trump is already threatening to use the pardon power in this way.
