Unsettled Outing From Undrafted Patriots Kicker

New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles | Preseason Week 2 2021 NFL Game Highlights

With 36-year-old kicker Nick Folk sidelined, another audition was in the cards for Patriots rookie Quinn Nordin.

The undrafted free agent out of Ann Arbor made his first extra point against the Eagles before slicing a 36-yard field goal wide right. Two missed extra points followed and the Patriots elected to go for two on one occasion. Nordin battled through the struggles to finish 1-of-2 on field goals and 2-of-4 on extra points.

Nordin had previously converted each of his three field goals at Gillette Stadium against Washington, including a 50-yarder, while going 1-of-2 on extra points.

First Half Scoring Highlights

Linebacker Matthew Judon continued to show why he may be one of the best free agent signings in the NFL this season. Judon drew a bead on an errant snap to Eagles quarterback Joe Flacco, knocking the ball to defensive back Jalen Mills, who receivers the ball at the Philadelphia 9-yard line. Running back Damien Harris took a five-yard rush into the endzone, as the Pats capitalized on the turnover.

New England would once again light the scoreboard toward the end of the first quarter. Cam Newton looked comfortable and in-rhythm throwing the football connecting with Sony Michel in the backfield on a few receptions. The Pats incumbent quarterback would find Jakobi Meyers on a well-placed 28-yard pass through zone coverage. Meyers maintained great body control along the side for the touchdown.

When the ball was given to Mac Jones, the rookie did not disappoint. His first series was a 17-play, 91-yard drive, lasting just over nine minutes. Jones nearly connected on a beautiful would-be touchdown to receiver NKeal Harry. Harry was unable to corral the pass as he landed awkwardly on his left shoulder. Rookie running back Rhamondre Stevenson would cap the drive with a one-yard rush for the touchdown.

New England Patriots Vs Philadelphia Eagles Prediction Team News And Preview August 19

Week 2 of the 2021 NFL preseason kicks off Thursday night with a replay of Super Bowl LII between the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles will look to score a victory in front of their home fans while the Patriots will want to keep the momentum going after beating the Washington Football Team last week.

Philadelphia head coach Nic Sirianni will be happy to have gotten his first NFL game in charge out of the way, so he can now focus on the teams regular season preparation.

After the Steelers game, Sirianni told reporters:

It felt like business as usual. Ive just added a few titles.

New England head coach Bill Belichick was his usual stoic self when describing the Pats’ performance against Washington.

Fundamentally I thought we made some progress, but weve still got a long way to go, Belichick said.

So how will the two teams line up for Thursday night’s game in Philadelphia?

Patriots’ Rb Room Is A Serious Strength

Speaking of the Patriots’ running back room, Michel’s fellow Patriots RBs stole the show in the blowout win. Damien Harris wasted no time making an impact as he scored a five-yard TD early in the first quarter to put New England on the board.

Why The Eagles Lost

Well, for one, they started Flacco at QB, thanks to Jalen Hurts coming down with a last-minute illness. The vet started his night by chasing down an errant snap and ended it with just 86 yards on 17 throws. Nick Mullens, the No. 3, was even worse, dancing around in the pocket while trailing by 30-plus. Aside from DeVonta Smith, who got consistent separation in his anticipated debut, no one really popped on the Eagles offense. The “D” wasn’t much better, with rookie Milton Williams maybe the lone standout on a night when other young backups like Zech McPhearson struggled to keep up in pass defense.

Defense With The Shutout

Despite seeing minimal time throughout the first two preseason contests, Judon has been a difference maker. His ability to get after the quarterback, set the edge to facilitate the run defense, and occasionally drop into coverage make him a perfect fit as an outside linebacker in New England.

Harvey Langi may be facing an uphill battle to make the 2021 Patriots roster. However, the 28-year-old linebacker made a strong case to earn his second tour of duty in New England. Langi would finish the evening with 5 total tackles, one sack and a tackle for loss. He also notched an interception, making an aggressive move to snag a pass-breakup from defensive back Justin Bethel.

Nfl Playoffs: Patriots’ Isaiah Wynn Out Vs Bills Eagles’ Miles Sanders To Play

Eagles vs. Patriots | Super Bowl LII Game Highlights

Jan. 14 —New England Patriots starting left tackle Isaiah Wynn will miss Saturday’s AFC wild-card game against the Buffalo Bills because of ankle and hip injuries, the team announced Friday.

Wynn, who protects rookie quarterback Mac Jones’ blindside, failed to practice all week after exiting the Patriots’ regular-season finale against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. He played just nine snaps in that 33-24 loss to the Dolphins.

The 26-year-old Wynn has battled multiple injuries over his NFL career, but the 2018 first-round draft pick proved to be more durable this season. He started 15 games and played 82% of the Patriots’ offensive snaps in the regular season.

Wynn, who was initially listed as questionable before being downgraded to out on Friday’s final injury report, was one of 13 Patriots players listed as questionable for the wild-card matchup against the Bills.

Starting safety Kyle Dugger , defensive tackle Christian Barmore , defensive lineman Lawrence Guy and linebacker Dont’a Hightower were among those listed as questionable on the injury report.

The Bills, meanwhile, didn’t list any players on their final injury report.

Elsewhere around the league, the Philadelphia Eagles will have running back Miles Sanders for Sunday’s NFC wild-card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“No limitations for Miles,” Sirianni told reporters Friday. “He’ll be our guy.”

Kenneth Gainwell Can Be Special

Philadelphia Eagles Kenneth Gainwell, right, runs with the ball during the second half of a preseason NFL football game against the New England Patriots on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, in Philadelphia.

The dual-threat running back was a bright spot during an ugly Thursday night of football.

The cousin of Fletcher Cox, Gainwell carried the ball five times for 21-yards, while also logging 3 catches for 23-yards. Gainwell ran hard and showed his versatility.

New England Vs Philadelphia Team Total

OVER 38 , UNDER 38

The Eagles fell to the Steelers 24-16 in their first preseason game for a total of 40 points, which went OVER the 36. But Philadelphia only scored 16 points and all of those came in the first half. The Patriots’ preseason opener narrowly survived the under with their 22-13 win over Washington.

New England only added a 91-yard touchdown in the final two minutes after Ron Rivera inexplicably used his timeouts to stop the clock when Bill Belichick was content with letting Brian Hoyer take a knee and run out the clock.

The total opened at 38.5 so the market has already favored the under. But it feels like neither team will be fighting tooth and nail in the fourth quarter. Considering that the Patriots defense is expected to be the team’s strength and that the offense is dealing with injuries at the tight end position , I like the under.

Note: While we’re dealing with a bunch of rain in Boston, the forecast in Philadelphia calls for temperatures in the mid-80’s with partly cloudy skies and a slight breeze. So, no, weather shouldn’t be a factor.

Mac Jones Vs Jalen Hurts

While Cam Newton is still the projected starter for New England, Mac Jones will be running the show in this game. Well see a lot of Jones and Jalen Hurts in this game, with both quarterbacks needing the preseason snaps and coaching staffs happy to let them learn through their mistakes.

  • Unleash the Hurts Philadelphia isnt naming Hurts its official starting quarterback, but the decision is made. The second-year pro is the leader of this team and there have been some positive reports out of training camp. Expect Bill Belichick to make him beat the Patriots from the pocket.
  • Mac Attack: After generating rave reviews in minicamp and building upon that momentum in training camp, Jones looked sharp in his NFL debut. A 68% completion rate is great, but we do want to see that 4.6 ypa rise dramatically in Week 2.

With Philly Resting Most Of Its Starters This Was A Lopsided Affair

Less than four calendar years ago, the Eagles and Patriots met in the Super Bowl, producing one of the biggest offensive showcases in the history of the NFL’s championship game. On Thursday night, they clashed again, but this time amid entirely different circumstances. Kicking off Week 2 of the 2021 preseason, Philadelphia rested most of its starters ahead of its anticipated regular-season kickoff of Nick Sirianni’s youth movement. That included quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was a surprise absentee due to a last-minute illness. The Patriots, meanwhile, got sharp performances from Cam Newton and Mac Jones in their bid to get one step closer to crowning a true Tom Brady successor going into the new year, claiming an easy 35-0 victory in the process.

Here are our instant takeaways from Thursday night’s Eagles-Patriots showdown:

Why The Patriots Won

This will sound like a copout, but the biggest reason New England started strong and built an early lead is because the Eagles rested almost all of their top defensive starters. All week, reports out of camp indicated Philly had its way with Newton and Co., but against second- and third-team D-lines, Newton had little trouble finding open passing lanes. Big plays from Jakobi Meyers and Kendrick Bourne helped. Jones was even more impressive later, carving up the Eagles’ backup secondary with a lively arm and getting assists from a deep running backfield headlined by J.J. Taylor and Rhamondre Stevenson. And then the Patriots defense, headlined by a busy front that included Chase Winovich and Christian Barmore, made Eagles quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Nick Mullens uncomfortable to further bury the home team.

Detroit Lions Over Philadelphia Eagles

If the Lions go 0-17, theyll be the best winless teams in history. They should have beaten the Ravens and threw a major scare into the Rams last week as 16.5-point underdogs. So, I definitely see them hanging with the Eagles and maybe getting an elusive win. Im very surprised by the love from bookmakers and bettors that has been shown to this inconsistent Eagles team with only wins over the Falcons and the reeling Panthers. Yet, they were bet down from +3 to pickem vs. the Raiders last week and have now gone from -3 to -3.5 in this game. But Ill gladly take as many points as they give us.

Last week: 1-1, Bengals , Bears .Season: 10-4.

Patriots Vs Eagles Matchup Preview

Patriots vs. Eagles Week 11 Highlights | NFL 2019

Things are drastically different for both the Patriots and Eagles from when they met in Super Bowl LII in 2017. The Patriots no longer have the GOAT Tom Brady and the Eagles have seen the departure of both their Super Bowl-winning quarterback Nick Foles and head coach Doug Pederson, as well as the oft-injured potential franchise quarterback Carson Wentz. After down years in 2020 that saw each team miss the playoffs , they are hoping to bounce back in 2021.

While the Patriots have said goodbye to Brady, they still have arguably the greatest coach in NFL history, Bill Belichick, so you can never count them out. Still, the biggest storyline for the Patriots is the quarterback battle between incumbent starter and former MVP Cam Newton and the rookie Mac Jones. In the Patriots first preseason game, both Newton and Jones had respectable, if not overly flashy, outings. Either way, the Patriots are no longer the proverbial favorites in the AFC East, as the Buffalo Bills are the defending division champs and will be most pundits pick to do so again.

Like all preseason games, it will be more about evaluation than actual results, but both the Patriots and Eagles have plenty to keep an eye on in this one.

The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles face off on Thursday in an NFL preseason showdown at Lincoln Financial Field. Both of these teams have been involved in joint practices.

The New England Patriots opened up their preseason facing off against the Washington Football Team, and the Patriots were able to come away with the victory. The Patriots used 13 points in the 4th quarter to pace them to a 22-13 victory. Mac Jones got the most playing time in the first game completing 13 of his 19 passes for 87 yards. Jones is still in a quarterback battle with Cam Newton for the starting quarterback job, and all eyes will be on both of those players in this game. It might be more about what Newton does if he can hold off Jones who is making a strong push to win the job.

On the other side of this matchup is the Philadelphia Eagles who faced off with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first game and they were defeated 24-16. Jalen Hurts didnt play a whole lot in the first game, rather it was Joe Flacco who played most of the game. Flacco completed 10 of his 17 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. The running game didnt have a whole lot of production, and that is going to need to be better in this game. The defense did have some issues in the first game stopping the pass, and in this game, they are going to need the defense to step up.
