Initial Struggles In Indianapolis
Upon the Colts’ arrival in Indianapolis over 143,000 requests for season tickets were received in just two weeks. The move to Indianapolis, however, did not change the recent fortune of the Colts, with the team appearing in the postseason only once in the first 11 seasons in Indianapolis. During the 1984 season, the first in Indianapolis, the team went 412 and accounted for the lowest offensive yardage in the league that season. The 1985 and 1986 teams combined for only eight wins, including an 013 start in 1986 which prompted the firing of head coach Rod Dowhower, who was replaced by Ron Meyer. The Colts, however, did receive eventual Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson as a result of a trade during the 1987 season, and went on to compile a 96 record, thereby winning the AFC East and advancing to the postseason for the first time in Indianapolis they lost that game to the Cleveland Browns.
Under Tobin, the Colts drafted running back with the second overall pick in the 1994 and acquired quarterback Jim Harbaugh as well. These moves along with others saw the Colts begin to turn their fortunes around with playoff appearances in 1995 and 1996. The Colts won their first postseason game as the Indianapolis Colts in 1995 and advanced to the AFC Championship Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, coming just a Hail Mary pass reception away from a trip to Super Bowl XXX.

Chiefs Atop Afc But Titans Control Their Destiny
The Patriots’ loss put the Kansas City Chiefs, whose seven-game win streak is now the NFL’s longest, in the No. 1 spot in the AFC at 10-4.
However, if the Tennessee Titans beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, they would move back into the No. 1 spot thanks to a head-to-head tiebreaker over Kansas City.

PATRIOTS OFFENSE: OVERALL , RUSH , PASS , SCORING .
PATRIOTS DEFENSE: OVERALL , RUSH , PASS , SCORING .
TURNOVER DIFFERENTIAL: Bills plus-8 Colts plus-9.
BILLS PLAYER TO WATCH: WR Gabriel Davis. Even if Emmanuel Sanders returns after missing one game with a knee injury, Davis has earned additional playing time, especially with slot receiver Cole Beasley on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Minus Sanders, Davis took advantage of an uptick in playing time in leading the Bills with five catches for 85 yards and two touchdowns against the Panthers.
PATRIOTS PLAYER TO WATCH: QB Mac Jones. He leads all rookie quarterbacks with 3,168 passing yards and 18 touchdowns. He needs two TDs to become the 15th rookie quarterback to reach 3,000 yards passing and 20 touchdowns.
FANTASY TIP: If Harris remains healthy this week, hes a good bet. He had a season-high 111 rushing yards and rushed for the Patriots lone TD in the first matchup with Buffalo.
Why The Patriots Should Learn From The Jets
Once Bill Belichick has shown the film from Saturdays game with all the mistakes, including his own I suggest he should also show the film from this Oldie But Goodie: Patriots 45, New York Jets 3, on Dec. 6, 2010 at Gillette Stadium.
The Jets were epically, couldnt-get-out-of-their-own-way horrible that night, and by the time it was over they were battered, bruised and deflated.
And yet, just a little more than a month later, they returned to Gillette Stadium and posted a stunning 28-21 divisional-round victory over a Patriots team that had gone 14-2 during the regular season and was coming off one of those lovely first-round byes. Maybe it was those lame bulletin-board foot jokes directed at Jets coach Rex Ryan by Pats receiver Wes Welker that fired up New York.
Or maybe, and heres the lesson, they werent as bad a team as they looked during that 45-3 loss to the Patriots on Monday Night Football. Are the Patriots as bad as they looked Saturday night?

Pete Carroll: Russell Wilson Will Certainly Be Great Again
The phrase must win is tossed around far too loosely in sports.
The phrase, however, applies to the Patriots-Bills clash Sunday at Gillette Stadium, with the AFC East title hanging in the balance.
A win by the Patriots would all but assure New England of its 17th division title in the past 20 seasons. A win by the Bills would draw them into a tie with the Patriots at 9-6 with two regular-season games remaining and the teams having split the season series.
Its a fascinating matchup. The Buffalo defense is ranked No. 3 in points allowed and No. 1 in fewest yards allowed. The Patriots are No. 1 in fewest points and No. 2 in fewest yards.
The Bills are trying to defend their division title while the Patriots are trying to reassert themselves after dominating the division for the past two decades. Buffalo has struggled of late, however, losing three of its past five games entering Sunday.
New England had its seven-game winning streak halted abruptly last week in a loss to the Colts who physically manhandled the Patriots, leaving head coach Bill Belichick seething afterward.
Belichick was so short with reporters after the loss to Indianapolis that he opened his Monday press conference .
Asked if the loss to the Colts might have helped his teams focus for this week and the final stretch of the regular season, Belichick said, I dont know. Well see. Well see what happens this week. We usually dont focus too much on what happened the week before, good or bad.
Patriots Vs Colts Live Updates: Highlights And Analysis As Jonathan Taylor Puts Away Patriots After Double
The New England Patriots entered Saturday’s critical meeting of AFC rivals with a league-best seven-game win streak, but it was the Indianapolis Colts who looked like bullies most of the game at Lucas Oil Stadium. Indianapolis scored the first 20 points, and Jonathan Taylor slammed the door on a frantic Patriots rally in the final minutes to seal a 27-17 victory.
After the Patriots cut the deficit to 20-17, Taylor ripped off a 67-yard run with 2:01 to play. The NFL‘s leader in rushing, scrimmage yards and touchdowns totaled 29 carries including 18 before halftime for 170 yards, helping the Colts overcome an ugly showing from Carson Wentz .
The Colts defense and special teams also played huge roles. Linebackers Darius Leonard and Bobby Okereke each intercepted Mac Jones, and Matt Adams blocked a punt that E.J. Speed recovered for a touchdown.
Things got heated later in the third quarter, as Colts wideout Michael Pittman and Patriots safety Kyle Dugger got into a fight and were both ejected. New England trailed 20-0 at the end of three, but Jones tossed two touchdowns to Hunter Henry to climb back into it.
Kravitz: Colts Turned The Tables On Their Longtime Tormentors
Eight times in 12 years, the Patriots bullied the Colts.
Took their lunch money, sent them home crying to their mommies, out-fought, out-coached and out-executed the soft, dome-dwelling, quarterback-centric Colts. Eight games, a losing average margin of 18 points, with properly inflated footballs and without, the Patriots could roll out just about anyone Jonas Gray, anybody? and punch Indy in the mouth.
Then Saturday night happened in front of the most hyped crowd weve seen in many years at Lucas Oil Stadium. The fans were frothing at the mouth at the mere sight of their long-time rivals, and the Colts gave the Patriots, a team on a seven-game win streak, a dose of their own nasty medicine.

The Peyton Manning Era
Jim Irsay began to shape the Colts one year after assuming control from his father by firing head coach Lindy Infante and hiring Bill Polian as the general manager of the organization. Polian in turn hired Jim Mora to become the next head coach of the team and drafted Tennessee Volunteer quarterback Peyton Manning, the son of New Orleans Saints legend Archie Manning, with the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft.
The team and Manning struggled during the 1998 season, winning only three games Manning threw a league high 28 interceptions. However, Manning did pass for 3,739 yards and threw 26 touchdown passes and was named to the NFL All-Rookie First Team. The Colts began to improve towards the end of the 1998 season and showed continued growth in 1999. Indianapolis drafted Edgerrin James in 1999 and continued to improve their roster heading into the upcoming season. The Colts went 133 in 1999 and finished first in the AFC East, their first division title since 1987. Indianapolis lost to the eventual AFC champion Tennessee Titans in the divisional playoffs.
At the completion of the 2009 season, the Colts had finished the first decade of the 2000s with the most regular-season wins and highest winning percentage of any team in the NFL during that span.
Bill Belichick Says Patriots Will Scout Colts On Hard Knocks Looking For Any Comments Or Information We Think Is Relevant To The Preparation
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, in Foxborough, Mass. AP
Hard Knocks is HBOs signature behind-the-scenes NFL docuseries that had been, until now, a show from and about training camp. But the current version is an in-season edition featuring the Indianapolis Colts, who the Patriots face on Saturday. The Dallas Cowboys, who were the preseason subject of Hard Knocks in 2021, were also on New Englands schedule this year.
We track most everything any team that we play does. Depending on the relevance or importance of that information, at some point, it gets relayed down the line, Belichick said. We have somebody that studies each team. Any relevant comments or information that we think is relevant to the preparation, that could be shared, sure.
There is a precedent for useful scouting information emerging from the show. In 2012, J.J. Watt, then with the Texans, said he picked up the Miami Dolphins snap count from watching Hard Knocks and then had 1.5 sacks against them in a 30-10 Houston win.
Hard Knocks debuted in 2001 but didnt become an annual event until 2007. The Patriots have never been featured, a distinction Belichick is glad about.
1. Theyve been on the show in the past 10 years.
Jonathan Taylor Leads Colts To Snap Patriots’ Win Streak
Jonathan Taylors 67-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter helped Indianapolis close out a 27-17 win over New England in the Week 15 Saturday night contest.
Taylor was the focal point of the Colts offense, as he racked up 170 yards on 29 carries. Frank Reichs offense was so run-heavy that Carson Wentz finished the game with only 57 passing yards on 12 attempts.
Indianapolis completely dominated the first half, as a trick-play pass to Nyheim Hines and a blocked punt recovery by E.J. Speed both resulted in touchdowns that vaulted the Colts to 17-0 halftime lead. Indianapolis then kicked a field goal in the third quarter to go up 20-0, but New England fought back with 17 unanswered points to make it 20-17.
The pressure was then on Indianapolis, as the Patriots still had a timeout and the two-minute warning and could thus get the ball back with time remaining for a game-tying field goal attempt. But Taylors scoring play put the game away.
Speeds recovery made him the first player since Hall of Famer Ed Reed in 2003 to post multiple blocked punt return touchdowns in a single season . Taylors touchdown was his 17th rushing score of the 2021 campaign, a mark that sets a new single-season high for the Colts.
New England hosts Buffalo in Week 16. Indianapolis travels to Arizona to face the Cardinals in the Christmas Day late game. The loss also knocks the Patriots out of the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
Let’s Take A Look At Who’s In Prime Position To Make The Afc Playoffs
The AFC continues to be one of the craziest conferences the NFL has ever seen. The conference has 13 teams that are .500 or better with three weeks remaining in the season — and 12 of them are separated by two games in the playoff race.
The AFC wild card race is even more unpredictable with nine teams separated by one game from fifth to 13th in the standings, making the margin of error slim for every team going forward. No team is gaining separation in this conference, especially since the AFC doesn’t have a single postseason qualifier heading into Christmas.
The division races are unpredictable and the wild card race is even crazier. As Week 16 kicked off Thursday night with the Titans’ 20-17 victory over the 49ers, it’s time to break down all the contenders for the three wild card spots — and which three non-division leaders have the best shot at reaching the postseason.
An Uncharacteristic Night For New England
This is not the Patriot Way.
The narrative of this game should NOT be, “Can Patriots win when Mac Jones trails by 14-20 points?”The narrative of this game SHOULD be, “You won’t win when you lose turnover battle, give 10 points on special teams, commit drive-killing penalties and give up 200 on the ground.”
The Stardom Of Jonathan Taylor
With the offensive line creating displacement and Pinter picking up the run blitz, Taylor is able to hit the hole for at least a five to six yard gain if he were a normal running back. However, it is sufficient to say that Taylor is simply different.
He hits the hole with two defenders, safety Devin McCourty and linebacker Dont’a Hightower, waiting for him. Now, these aren’t two typical starting defensive players. McCourty is a three-time All-Pro that could be on his way to the Hall of Fame one day. Hightower is a two-time Pro Bowler and former All-Pro himself that has been a dominant player for years.
The odds of making one of these players, let alone both, miss in the hole seems extremely low.
Taylor just makes it look too easy. There is something oddly satisfying about him doing this to two players that landed on the Patriots’ All-Decade List to end the Colts’ 12-year drought against the team.
This is an insane jump-cut that allows Taylor to slide right by Hightower for the long run. Simply an elite player making an elite play.
