  • Should Donald Trump Be Prosecuted

After eight congressional hearings investigating the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol, one thing is clear: there is enough evidence to prosecute Donald Trump on a variety of charges. The committee has the option to refer cases to the Justice Department for prosecution, but such a step is not necessary. The Justice Department could decide to prosecute at any time, on whichever charges for which they find sufficient evidence. Already more than 800 people have been charged in connection with the January 6 eventsalthough most have been charged with lesser crimes. So far only 50 have pleaded guilty to felony charges.

But all along, the issue has been not what the 10,000 people who came to Washington D.C. for the rally knew or even what the 2,000 people who made it inside the Capitol building knew. All along the issue has been what did the president know and what did he intend? Was this a rally that simply got out of control? Or was it the first attempt ever by an American president to stage a coup detat?

If it was an attempted coup, it was a pretty pathetic and incompetent one.

For Trump Email Is The New Twitter

    By Glenn Thrush

Fridays positive jobs report might have been a day of exclamation points and all-caps self-congratulation for Donald J. Trump if he were A) still president, and B) still allowed to post on Twitter.

Instead, there was a somber tweet from the White House chief of staff, Ron Klain, who downplayed the 379,000 newly created jobs as not good enough, and Mr. Trump himself used a muted megaphone he once eschewed email to address an array of topics tailor-fit for social media.

Despite being delayed by years of litigation and politics by the Democrats, the wall is almost finished and can be quickly completed. Doing so will save thousands of lives, Mr. Trump wrote in an email on Friday, responding to recent White House moves to reverse his immigration and border wall policies.

Keep illegal immigration, crime, and the China Virus out of our country! he added in the email, sent by his post-presidential office.

It is Trumps Twitter feed, only now its my inbox, Rob Tornoe, a reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer, posted on Twitter after the email went out.

The old-is-new email format, which has no character count or content warnings, allows the former president to ramble and speak out as before, with all the same unedited idiosyncrasies of grammar and punctuation intact.

A few hours later, he targeted Karl Rove, a former adviser of President George W. Bush, for writing an op-ed piece calling Mr. Trumps speech at CPAC hollow.

    Crime Immigration And The Economy

President Trump’s lawyers make closing argument in impeachment trial

While Trumps election denial loomed large, he spent most of the speech focusing on themes that defined his successful 2016 campaign: crime and immigration.

The former president said the US is now a cesspool of crime, repeating a Republican talking point that a spike in violent crime in 2020, and a smaller increase in 2021, are the result of liberal policies in US cities. The rates for both years remain far below the all-time high crime rates recorded in the US in the 1990s.

We have blood, death and suffering on a scale once unthinkable, he said.

Trump, who launched his 2016 campaign by pledging to build a wall to stop undocumented migrants from crossing the southern border with Mexico, while accusing migrants of being rapists and bringing drugs and crime with them, called on the next Republican president to restore his hardline border policies.

The next Republican president must immediately implement every aspect of the Trump agenda that achieved the most secure border in history, he said.

He blamed Biden for the 40-year high inflation and energy prices in the US, which the current president has blamed on the fallout from Russias invasion of Ukraine.

We are a nation in decline, he said. We are a failing nation.

Disclosed Emails: Team Trump Conceded Fake Electors Were Fake

    BySteve Benen

A year and a half after Donald Trump and his allies hatched the fake electors scheme, were still learning details that arent just amazing theyre also likely to be of interest to officials investigating the scandal.

The Jan. 6 committee, for example, has helped document the fact that the former president was directly involved in the plot. We also learned that Team Trump knew the scheme was illegal because the White House counsels office told them so. It also came as a surprise when Ronna McDaniel acknowledged that the Republican National Committee helped put the slates of fake electors together. We even learned that some Trump campaign lawyers distanced themselves from the scheme because it was so obviously dubious.

It reached the point last month that some local Republicans said they felt as if theyd been duped. We were kind of useful idiots or rubes, one former Trump campaign staffer in Michigan said. Asked if he wouldve volunteered to be a fake elector, knowing what he knows now, the staffer added, I absolutely would not have.

Its a safe bet that feeling was even more intense yesterday after The New York Times published this report.

According to the communications, which have not been independently verified by MSNBC or NBC News, those involved in the scheme were quite candid in messages they did not expect the public to see freely using the word fake and leaving little doubt that their plot was unlikely to withstand legal scrutiny.

Donald Trump Claims He Hasn’t Sent Texts Or Emails For Over A Decade

Former President Donald Trump‘s communication has been at the center of several court cases and investigations, but he is arguing that there’s little else he can provide, in part because he doesn’t use text messaging.

“Doesn’t email, doesn’t text,” Jason Miller, Gettr CEO and Trump’s former campaign spokesperson, told Newsweek.

A longtime aide to the former president, Miller served on both of Trump’s presidential campaigns and on his transition team. He officially left his role as Trump’s spokesperson in June, and in the time that he’s known and worked with Trump, Miller said he’s “never texted with him.”

Although it may be possible that Trump has sent or received a text message, he swore in an affidavit that if he’s used texting, it’s been the rare exception for more than 10 years.

“Since at least January 1, 2010, it has been my customary practice to not communicate via e-mail, text message, or other digital methods of communication,” Trump wrote in a recent affidavit.

This isn’t the first time Trump’s use of his cellphone has made its way into the legal battle. During a hearing in late April, Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, told Judge Arthur Engoron that her client doesn’t have the written communication that New York Attorney General Letitia James was seeking.

“President Trump does not email. He does not text message. And he has no work computer at home or anywhere else,” Habba said, according to CNN.

Newsweek reached out to Trump for comment.

How Trump Can Win 2024 Election According To Former Clinton Adviser

Former Bill Clinton advisor Dick Morris recently insisted that Donald Trump will run for president in 2024 and beyond that, he is going to win.

While speaking to Newsmax on Sunday’s Wake up America show, Morris promoted his latest book The Return: Trump’s Big 2024 Comeback, and he explained why he was so confident in the former president’s chances of returning to the White House.

So far, Trump has only hinted that he would be making a presidential run in 2024 and has not made an official announcement.

“The phrase is not ‘likely’, the phrase is dead pipe certain: He’s certain to run, and he is, I believe, certain to get the Republican nomination, Morris said. “I think he’ll actually get it by acclamation. I don’t think there’ll be a primary fight.”

Morris also addressed the suggestion that Republicans will back Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over Trump for the presidential nomination.

According to recent polls, DeSantis is currently seeing increasingly optimistic signs of support for a presidential run in 2024.

A poll conducted last month by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center found that Republican primary voters were more likely to back DeSantis than Trump in a head-to-head against Biden.

“It’s likely to continue that way,” Andrew Smith, director of the UNH Survey Center, told Newsweek. “We’re seeing that more Republicans are willing to vote for DeSantis than they are for Trump.”

Report: Trump Thinks A 2024 Presidential Run Will Keep Him Out Of Prison

Donald Trump famously hated the actual job of being president of the United States, given its emphasis on reading documents, listening to experts, and giving a crap about other people. On the other hand, he did enjoy the power, and one aspect of the power he really seemed to like was the fact that, according to his lawyers, he couldnt be held accountable for any crimes while in office.

Now, at the moment, Donald Trump is not president, and his legal situation isnt looking so hot. For one thing, the January 6 committee has given the Justice Department a whole bunch of reasons to indict the guy, and on Sunday, vice-chair Liz Cheneysaid the panel may make its own criminal referral. For another, the Fulton County criminal investigation into Trumps attempt to overturn the 2020 election is heating up and actually appears to have legs. Anyway, can you see where this is going?

Meanwhile, during an interview with ABCs This Week on Sunday, Cheney confirmed that the January 6 committee could refer Trump for criminal charges to the DOJ, while also noting that the Justice Department does not need to wait on the panel to make its own indictment. Which Trumpidiot as he may beis apparently aware of.
