Where Will Libertarian Voters Go Now
The 2020 elections showed then that the bloc from 2016 is still there and is still important, but that its potential to determine elections comes from swinging from one party to another instead of settling on and leveraging its own.
Unfortunately for libertarian-minded voters, this leaves them with only relatively poor options in future elections. There is a possibility that many of them will turn back to the Republican Party once it puts forth a less offensive candidate. But the GOP will likely remain in thrall of the bloc that Trump forged, a bitter reality for libertarians who just a decade ago seemed to take the reins with the success of the Tea Party movement. The Democratic Party will surely keep some of the votes it won from this bloc as well. But the pressure to placate its far-left wing will likely outweigh its desire to permanently win over the moderate libertarians. And for the Libertarian Party to be anything more than a last resort, it would have to prove itself capable of exactly that which it failed to do this election: rally this bloc under a common banner with a shared strategy, in so doing convincing mainstream parties that it cannot be ignored.
In the next Presidential election, the blocs votes will likely be divided between these three options, weakening the efficacy of each and likely stoking a fourth option: abstention.
What Do Party Preferences Mean When Listed With Candidates’ Names On The Ballot What Are The Qualified Political Parties And Abbreviations Of Those Party Names
The term “party preference” is now used in place of the term “party affiliation.” A candidate must indicate his or her preference or lack of preference for a qualified political party. If the candidate has a qualified political party preference that qualified political party will be indicated by the candidate’s name on the ballot. If a candidate does not have a qualified political party preference, “Party Preference: None” will be indicated by the candidate’s name on the ballot.
Similarly, voters who were previously known as “decline-to-state” voters are now known as having “no party preference” or known as “NPP” voters.

The vital differences between libertarians and republicans are on the topics of national security and foreign interference. Libertarians are constantly misunderstood as off-brand Republicans in a political environment governed by a two-party structure.
Both the Republican and Libertarian Parties advocate restricting the federal governments influence in the United States. Compared with the Republican Party, however, the Libertarian Party supports more stringent limitations on government control.
Although the two groups often agree on topics, there are clear ideological divisions between them. But lets chat about some of the differences between Libertarians and Republicans briefly.

There were 21 candidates on the ballot each in Vermont and Colorado, more than in any other state. Arkansas and Louisiana came in second, with 13 candidates each. Twelve states featured only three candidates on the ballot.

The Texas House elections in 2018 got attention because of the 12 seats Democrats took away from Republicans, but there were a number of close finishes in which a third candidate might have changed the outcome, making those races targets this year. For instance, state Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford, won reelection by 1,428 votes the Libertarian in his race got 1,644 votes. Stickland decided not to run for reelection this year.
Perhaps more interesting, especially in light of the weekends Texas Supreme Court decision, were the close House races where only two candidates were in competition in 2018. Adding a third candidate to the mix could mix things up in 2020. Some were Republicans, like Collin Countys Matt Shaheen and Jeff Leach, who won with 50.3% and 51.2%, respectively. Morgan Meyer, R-Dallas, got back to Austin with 50.1% if 111 people had decided to vote for his opponent instead of him, Joanna Cattanach would have gone to Austin.

It is apparent now more than ever that our government has grown out of controland under Democratic leadership, it will only continue to infringe upon our civil liberties. Currently, this Democratic leadership is telling you how to run your businesses, telling you which doctor to see, telling you what you can and cannot eat, and monitoring your phone calls and data without a warrant.
Our Founding Fathers wrote the Bill of Rights to protect us, and our current Democratic leadership is trampling all over these protections. President Obama and the Democrats who support him think that violating American citizen’s right to privacy is essential for national security and that proves just how out-of-touch and out of control our government has become.
Under Democratic leadership, the Internal Revenue Service has targeted political dissidents, the Department of Justice has seized reporters’ phone records, and the NSA has seized an unlimited amount of cell phone data. This is an all-out assault on the Constitution.
In his farewell speech in 1989, Ronald Reagan said: “As government expands, liberty contracts.”
He was right. Government cannot give us our liberty, and as government grows, liberty becomes marginalized. The collective takes precedent over the individual and freedom shrinks.

A Libertarian and a Republican both support the liberty or the individual freedom. Thus, superficially they share similar ideological views. The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act, which took effect January 1, 2011, created “voter-nominated” offices. The Top Two Candidates Open Primary Act does not apply to candidates running for U.S. President, county central committees, or local offices.
Most of the offices that were previously known as “partisan” are now known as “voter-nominated” offices. Voter-nominated offices are state constitutional offices, state legislative offices, and U.S. congressional offices. The only “partisan offices” now are the offices of U.S. President and county central committee.

The 2020 Libertarian Party presidential primaries and caucuses were a series of electoral contests to indicate non-binding preferences for the Libertarian Party‘s presidential candidate in the 2020 United States presidential election. These differ from the Republican or Democratic presidential primaries and caucuses in that they do not appoint delegates to represent a candidate at the party’s convention to select the party’s presidential nominee.
The party’s nominee was subsequently chosen directly by registered delegates at the 2020 Libertarian National Convention, held through an online convention from May 22 to May 24.Jo Jorgensen was chosen as the party’s presidential nominee, becoming the first woman to receive the Libertarian nomination, after four rounds of voting.Spike Cohen was nominated for vice president.

How The Libertarian Party Won Sort Of
More people voted for Joe Biden than for any presidential candidate in American history. This gain happened not simply by generating votes from Democrats , but from independents and the estimated 5 million voters who favored a third-party candidate in 2016.
Though votes are still being tabulated, so far, the number of third-party votes has dropped precipitously from 2016 to 2020, from more than 5 percent to perhaps less than 2 percent. Many of those third-party voters ultimately voted for Joe Biden: As Reason Magazines Matt Welch explained, while Trumps voting percentage in states like Michigan and Arizona mirrored his 2016 performance, votes that went to third-party candidates like Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson in 2016 appear to have gone to Biden instead.
To be clear, we dont know if 2016 voters and 2020 voters are the same people third-party voters in 2016 may have stayed home in 2020, meaning that Joe Biden received a critical number of votes from first-time voters.
But in Wisconsin, where the gap between Biden and Trump stands currently at 20,557 votes, Jo Jorgensen received 38,393 votes. And in Arizona, where the gap between Biden and Trump is an even tighter 12,813 votes, Jorgensen received 50,636 votes nearly four times the margin between Biden and Trump.
Both of those states, which Trump won in 2016, went to Biden in 2020.

How Are Presidential Primary Elections Conducted In California
Qualified political parties in California may hold presidential primaries in one of two ways:
- Closed presidential primary – only voters indicating a preference for a party may vote for that party’s presidential nominee.
- Modified-closed presidential primary – the party also allows voters who did not state a party preference to vote for that party’s presidential nominee.
If a qualified political party chooses to hold a modified-closed presidential primary, the party must notify the California Secretary of State no later than the 135th day before Election Day.

Are Libertarians Liberal Or Conservative
Libertarians are neither. Unlike liberals or conservatives, Libertarians advocate a high degree of both personal and economic liberty.
Libertarians advocate freedom in economic matters, so were in favor of lowering and eliminating taxes, slashing bureaucratic regulation of business, and charitable rather than government welfare.
Libertarians are also socially inclusive. We think each person should be free to make their own choices so long as they do not infringe on others rights. We oppose laws that seek to control peoples personal choices.

How Do I Change My Party Affiliation
You may change your party affiliation with the clerk of the town or city where you are domiciled or at any scheduled meeting of the supervisors of the checklist except for during the period of time between the first day of the filing period for the primary election and/or the presidential primary election and the date of the primary election itself. You will be required to choose either a Republican or Democratic ballot when you go to vote. The last day a registered voter can change their party affiliation before he 2022 state primary is May 31, 2022. Supervisors of the checklist are required to meet on that day at least between 7:00-7:30 p.m. to accept party changes.

Several prominent Republicans, like former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, expressed irritation at the success of the Libertarian Party this election cycle.

And the founder of Libertarians for Trump, Loyola University economist and anarcho-capitalist Walter E. Block, wrote in the Wall Street Journal on November 8 that libertarians had spoiled the election, arguing that on the Libertarian-O-Meter, Mr. Trump scores much higher than Mr. Biden because of his judicial nominations and deregulatory policies. He concluded, Pardon me while I beat my head against the wall. How could libertarians in purple states be so stupid?
But libertarianism is not synonymous with Trumpism , and Jorgensens campaign aimed to separate herself from both the Democratic and Republican party nominees, arguing for the federal decriminalization of all drugs and the defunding of the Drug Enforcement Administration, for instance, and saying that the United States should pull out of NATO and the United Nations and become one giant Switzerland.
So while some votes for Jorgensen may have come from conservatives, its also possible that Libertarian Party voters are just that: libertarians, a voting cohort that may not have voted for Trump had there been no libertarians on the ballot.

Because, like it or not, our political system is currently based on political parties. Many Libertarians would like to do away with the party system and open up elections so that voters have more options and more freedom.
But, as it stands now, working through the Libertarian Party is the best step for meaningful change.
Independents are now the largest voting block in America. By pulling the lever for the older parties, you only embolden the status-quo. You strengthen the political extremes. When you support Libertarians, you chip away at the two-party duopoly and help create a new system, where Americans have more options at the ballot box.

As the results of the 2020 presidential election remain unknown, partisans on both sides have begun casting about desperately for folks to blame. Latino voters for Trump have been getting a special amount of guff from Democrats. And both liberals and conservatives agree that third-party voters are a problem, which each side somehow convinced that those who cast their ballots for Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen are traitors who owed votes to either former Vice President Joe Biden or President Donald Trump.
As of yesterday morning, Jorgensen was pulling nearly 1.6 million votes, with her vote total beating the spread between Biden and Trump in several vital states.
In Georgia, Jorgensen has received nearly 60,400 votes, or 1.2 percent of the state’s total. Currently, Trump is beating Biden in Georgia by fewer than 19,000 votes.
In Nevadawhere Biden is currently beating Trump by less than one percentJorgensen has drawn about 1.4 percent of the vote.
In Wisconsin, Jorgensen has received more than 38,400 votes, or 1.2 percent. That’s also more than the margin of votes by which Trump is losing Wisconsin to Biden.
And Jorgensen hovers around 1 percent in Michigan, where Biden is beating Trump by just about one percent.
“Jorgensen has already easily bested Bob Barr’s 523,713 votes in 2008 and Ron Paul’s 431,750 in 1988,” points out the Washington Examiner.
