Dallas Cowboys Versus New England Patriots

Don't Miss

Patriots’ Offense Starts Strong

Cowboys vs. Patriots Week 6 Highlights | NFL 2021

Quick starts have been hard to come by for the Patriots this season, but that wasn’t the case Sunday. New England, which had been shutout in the first quarter in four of its previous five games, scored two touchdowns in the opening 10:50 of play.

The Patriots benefitted from an extremely short field on its first series following Dallas turning it over on downs on its own 34-yard line. Four plays later, the Patriots scored out of the wildcat formation as Damien Harris took the direct snap four yards into the end zone.

The Cowboys answered with a touchdown on the ensuing possession, only for the Patriots to immediately march right down the field on a drive that featured a handful of strong plays from rookie Rhamondre Stevenson before Jones connected with Hunter Henry on a 20-yard touchdown pass.

The Patriots offense wasn’t settling for field goals once it got into the red zone, which was also a change of pace. On the Patriots initial go-ahead score in the fourth quarter, it got more determined running out of Harris and Stevenson finished the drive off with a 1-yard touchdown run.

The Cowboys Patriots contest on Sunday was an absolute thriller for Cowboys fans. The Cowboys outplayed the Patriots on offense, defense, and on special teams and therefore should have won by a comfortable margin. Unfortunately, some poor officiating and some crucial mistakes by the Cowboys kept the game close. Still, the Cowboys managed to come away with the victory at New England, something they havent done since 1987. It was also the first time the Cowboys have ever beaten Bill Belichick who now owns a 1-5 record against the Americas Team. The Cowboys have now won five straight, their longest winning streak since 2016.

Dak Prescott finished the day 35 of 51 for 445 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception. It was another strong overall performance from Dak that was overshadowed somewhat after he suffered a calf strain on the games final play. Dak attended the post game press conference wearing a walking boot and he will be evaluated further on Monday. He said he will be fine, but Cowboy fans will all be anxious to find out the results of the MRI scheduled for Monday. CeeDee Lamb led all receivers with 9 catches for 149 yards and 2 scores.

Dak Prescott Must Be In The Mvp Conversation

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is the deserved betting favorite for NFL MVP, but Prescott is giving him serious competition.

Prescott was brilliant against the Patriots. He completed 36 of 51 pass attempts for 445 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He led Dallas on a game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter to force overtime, and in the extra period he brought the Cowboys down the field for the game-winning touchdown on a 35-yard pass to Lamb.

Prescott is completing 73.1 percent of his passes for 1,813 yards with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions through six games. The Cowboys have the second-best record in the NFC at 5-1, with the only loss coming to Tom Brady’s Buccaneers in Week 1.

Every list of MVP candidates needs to have Prescott in the top three after Sunday. He did not let the Cowboys lose in a tough place to play.

The Offense Started Quickly But Stalled

The Patriots offense was cruising, scoring touchdowns on their first two drives on Sunday. In their third drive, Jones hit Agholor for a 27-yard gain and things were rolling. However, following a 25-yard pass to Jakobi Meyers that was negated due to a holding penalty, things slowed to a turtle’s pace for Jones and his group. On the next play, Jones was strip-sacked by Randy Gregory, who landed a crushing blow at 10:14 of the second.

After that, everything changed.

Prior to that fumble, Jones completed four pass plays of over 10 yards. That included a 20-yard touchdown throw to Hunter Henry at 4:50 of the first quarter, which put the Pats up, 14-7.

Following the fumble, over the next five drives, Jones completed zero passes over 10 yards and the Patriots punted four times and took a knee to end the half on the other. Following the sack, the Pats went 0-for-5 on third down. It felt like the Patriots play-calling shifted following Gregorys big hit on Jones.

“I think just you want to try and get in a rhythm. We did that sometimes during the game,” said Jones. “… I left a lot of plays on the field, but we did fight hard. When you look at the big picture, you never want to say you’re close, and it’s hard to do that, but the games that we’ve lost we’ve been two or three plays away, and I guess it’s just how the NFL works, and I’m learning that the hard way.

“But we can’t hang our heads, we just have to come back tomorrow, get up early and come back to work.”

Mac Jones’ Perfect Start Finally Ends

Mac Jones is indeed human.

The Patriots quarterback had been 10-for-10 with a little over two minutes remaining in the third quarter when he threw his first incompletion, a pass over the middle that was tipped by Jakobi Meyers before it fell to the ground.

Jones had completed his 10 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown, which was scored by tight end Hunter Henry in the first quarter.

Draft Kings: Cowboys Will Cover Against Patriots In Week 6

Cole Huff writes: “No matter the circumstance, it seems as though New England is always in a close game. They lost close ones to Tampa and Miami before winning by three over the Texans in Week 5. However, its unlikely the Patriots will be able to stay within striking distance against a high-powered Dallas offense that also has the defense to smother Mac Jones and the Patriots’ offense.”

Penalties Play A Factor On Both Sides

Cowboys Top Plays from Week 6 vs. Patriots | Dallas Cowboys

Coach Mike McCarthy’s team proved to be an undisciplined bunch. The Cowboys continuously shot themselves in the foot, racking up 12 penalties for 115 yards.

The Patriots didn’t play a clean game, either. Jakobi Meyers had a touchdown reception nullified in the second quarter due to a hold on guard James Ferentz, who was called up from the practice squad to play in the Patriots patchwork offensive line. On the very next play, Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory walloped Jones, causing a strip sack and a Patriots turnover.

Pro Football Network: Cowboys 30 Patriots 20

Ben Rolfe writes: “The Patriots escaped with a win in Houston, but the way they got there was almost a disaster mistakes upon mistakes on offense while their defense was exposed by Davis Mills. Neither of those is a good thing when you are set to face Dak Prescott and this Cowboys offense. The Patriots are rarely embarrassed at home, but this could be different.”

Patriots Defense Did Deliver Two Key Takeaways

The complexion of the contest would have looked much different if it weren’t for two game-altering turnovers forced by the Patriots defense in their own end zone.

The first one came just over two minutes into the second quarter when Prescott’s pass was slightly off-target to Cedric Wilson allowing Justin Bethel, who filled in when Jonathan Jones was momentarily sidelined with a ribs injury, to deflect it and Kyle Dugger caught the ricochet for his first career interception.

With 1:30 left before halftime, the Patriots defense proved opportunistic again. On fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line, Prescott appeared to sneak it in for the go-ahead score, but linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley, who recorded a game-high 13 tackles, made an incredible play that overturned the initial ruling of a touchdown.

When Prescott stuck the ball out to break the plane of the goal line, Bentley knocked the ball out of the grasp of Prescott before the ball crossed the goal line to cause the fumble, which Kyle Van Noy recovered in the end zone.

Dallas Cowboys Vs New England Patriots Predictions

After finishing third in the NFC East with a record of 6-10 last season, the Cowboys drew an incrediblytough opening matchup to kick things off in Week 1 â as Dallas visited Tom Brady and the defendingchamps in Dak Prescottâs first regular-season appearance since suffering a devastating ankle injury lastOctober.

Dallas dropped its season-opener to Tampa Bay in heartbreaking fashion , but since then, theCowboys have looked phenomenal â highlighted by Prescott and company entering Sunday riding afour-game winning streak, and their offense racking up 40.3 PPG across the last three.

On the other hand, New England has stumbled out to a somewhat underwhelming start with rookie QBMac Jones under center â considering the Patriots currently sit at 2-3, and their offense ranks 26 th inboth scoring and total yardage .

Iâll lay the points with Dallas here, as two of New Englandâs three losses came by three points or less tostart the year â but I doubt the Patriots will be able to match the Cowboysâ dominant offensive presencein this matchup.

New England Patriots vs. Dallas Cowboys in Foxborough at

So far this season, Dallas has done a great job of keeping the passing and running game active. It is a deadly combination to have 200 passing yards and 100 plus rushing yards in a game. Dallas has shown that they play much better when they get the run and pass game active. At 266.8 passing yards and 172.8 rushing yards per game, Dallas has high-caliber offensive power. New England does a good job against the run, so Dallas will need to work around that. However, Dallas has managed to work it out recently, so I see no issue with getting the job done.

Patriots Can’t Come Through In Overtime

The Patriots couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity at hand when they got the ball first to start the overtime. New England punted the ball away and then the Patriots defense couldn’t stop the Cowboys.

Dak Prescott, who completed 31-of-45 passes for 445 yards and three scores, tossed a 35-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb to give the Cowboys the win. It was just another example of the Patriots failing to come up with critical plays when it really needed them, which has been the case too often this season.

Patriots Lead Cowboys 14

It’s been a first half for the ages in New England as the Patriots cling on to a 14-10 lead over the Cowboys midway through the game.

The teams have combined for 363 yards and five turnovers, and an offensive penalty negated a touchdown on each side.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott went 17-for-23 for 192 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the first half. Ezekiel Elliott has 12 carries for 33 yards, and Blake Jarwin caught Prescott’s touchdown pass.

Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, meanwhile, went 7-for-7 for an even 100 yards in the first half and threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Henry, who dove into the end zone to make it. Rhamondre Stevenson has two catches for 36 yards and Damien Harris has run five times for 34 yards and a touchdown.

If you’re looking to get your heart pounding, this’ll do it.

Cowboys Looking To Regroup After Halftime

Not a great half for the Cowboys. There hasnât been much on the ground and Dak Prescott has turned it over twice.

Dallas really needed to get some points after Luke Gifford’s blocked punt.

There have been some questionable calls. One was that it looked like Prescott was in on third-and-goal from the 1. Dallas has seven penalties for 76 yards and New England has two for 22 yards.

Sportsnaut: Patriots Will Lose To Cowboys In Week 6

It writes: “What version of the Patriots defense we see will determine whether this is a blowout or a close game. If the unit that got picked apart by Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills shows up, Dallas will drop 30-plus on the Cowboys. If Bill Belichick gets his team in check, maybe the Patriots lose by three.”

  • SU: 2-3
  • ATS – Home: 1-2
  • ATS – Away: 1-1

On the surface, New Englandâs 2-3 start to the new season doesnât appear all that disappointing âconsidering Bill Belichick selected a young quarterback in the first round of the latest draft, and initialgrowing pains are always to be expected.

New Englandâs opening stretch of matchups doesnât indicate much growth from its young core though, considering the Patriotsâ only victories came against ailing Jets and Texans squads â and their offenseranks near the bottom of nearly every statistical category .

The New England Patriots have won four straight games when facing the NFC East.
