Patriot Lighting Led String Lights Not Working

Led Strip Lights Buzzing Noise Issue

Outdoor Lighting Troubleshooting Tips

About a couple weeks ago, you installed two LED strips with their power supply. Everything was smooth. Indeed, they work perfectly. The connections are flawless. You turn them on, and a beautiful light shine all over the place!

Then, one morning you wake up. Immediately, you hear one of the two power supplies buzzing, hissing, making some noise. You turn on the light, and of course, it goes back silent. What is going on?

Power supplies do not last forever. Even more commonly, some products come out of the factory with several issues already. That is why choosing products with a warranty is always recommendable.

To a certain extent, most power adapters buzz. Maybe, you only need to look for a better place to position the power supply to solve the problem.

Moreover, make sure that it is not resting on something that amplifies the vibrations. As you might know, a cheap power adapter can overheat. Eventually, if that is the case, you will find out. In other words, it will work less and less until it stops working.

Also, a buzzing noise can arise when you switch color. Sometimes, it is not a loud noise, but it is annoying. That is, sharp, ears piercing sound.

The solution requires you to find the actual sound emitting source first. Next, you can use a rigid eyeglass case to somehow muffle the high-pitch sound. If there is no way to answer this problem, you should return the item.

Why Are Only Half My String Solar Lights Working

Many solar lights utilize one panel that powers a string of lights. In these setups, if one light goes out, the rest of the string will often turn out into. Try replacing any faulty bulbs to restore power to the rest of the string.

Solar garden lights are an energy-efficient way to light up your backyard, garden, or patio. However, failures are common, especially with lower-quality lights. To prevent issues from occurring in the first place, purchase well-reviewed lights. When a problem does arise, the solution is usually as simple as cleaning or replacing a component in the light.

What Is An Led Strip Light

Usually, you will find a LED strip on the shelf in the form of a long roll. At first sight, it looks like a strip on which someone welded light diodes, one after another.

On most LED strips, the number of LEDs and the distance between them are never the same. Generally, the amount varies according to the light power you want to obtain.

If you only need a short piece, you can shorten your led strip. In this case, you follow the instruction manual carefully. Alternatively, you can follow our short tutorial to troubleshoot the cutting in real-time. More on this later.

Finally, a LED strip is a lighting solution designed for specific needs. For example, it is useful to decorate or point out something. Plus, it offers the opportunity to bring light to any environment. Even where only one light point is set up.

Thanks to its structure made of a series of LED Chips in sequence, it lights up in the shape of a bright line. Indeed, this fact alone opens up numerous applications.

One of the most popular features of LED strips is their flexibility and ease of installation. With a single LED strip, you can create plays of light and luminous grooves. Or shadows for truly decorative walls or false ceilings.

How Long Do Outdoor Solar Lights Last

The lifespan of outdoor solar lights can vary wildly depending on the build quality, environment, and other factors. Drastic weather will have a negative impact on the longevity of your lights. Purchasing reputable lights should increase the lifespan and ensure that replacement parts are available if the need arises.

Overheating Problem Hot To Touch The Led Strip

When you switch it on, the LED lights shine bright. To be precise, you can hover your hand on the strip to feel it warming up. After a while, the LED strip is hot. Even too hot to touch. Indeed, it may be overheating.

No one should let their LED product overheat. In fact, overheating means that too much power is making the diodes work way too hard.

In other words, excessive power or voltage shortens the life span of your product. Most likely, you cannot puzzle the problem out without doing some testing.

Testing is recommendable to search for any problem concerning the electric system. If your LEDs overheat and you want to troubleshoot the temperature problem, here is a solution. Use a metallic profile as a heat sink. A simple aluminum profile will do.

The metal will absorb the heat and cool down the light strip.

    Troubleshooting Common Solar Light Problems

Your solar lights have one job: to illuminate your backyard and pathways at night. Unfortunately, there are a multitude of things that can go wrong with solar power systems, both large and small. Each solar garden light is its own miniature solar setup, complete with a panel, battery, light, and housing. This leaves a few points that are prone to failure. Luckily, most issues can be solved with a simple fix. Lets explore a few of the common issues found in solar garden lights.

The Lights Are Severed Because Copper Wiring Exposed

This is the most common issue and could be very noticeable or almost invisible. Check first if the wire is completely separated , and if not, inspect the wire for a small cut which could be exposing the copper wire to moisture.

If your wire is cut, the string wont be acting as it should, and even a small knick from overuse or rodents could be the culprit. When using staples on your installation, make sure that you have not stapled through your wires! This can cause your copper wiring to be exposed to outside moisture.

Test If The Sensor Is Working Or Not

Patriot Lighting Ceiling Fan Remote Not Working

Solar lights dont work during day time, in order to check them during day time you need to simulate darkness. Most solar lights have a little sensor to check darkness.

Make sure you check them during the night time and/or simulate the darkness by covering the sensor with your hand, cloth or something, after covering it if the light turn ON, then its fine. If they dont, then solar light battery needs to be changed.

    The Led Controller Needs Reprogramming

If youre using a 44 or 24 key LED strip remote, the LED might be responding to the remote control but some or all the colors are incorrect.

In that case, the remote should be okay and paired with your LED light strip. However, the LED controller itself needs reprogramming.

    How to Fix It

  • Start by unplugging and replugging the LED controller back
  • Press the RED color on the remote.
  • Press the OFF button
  • Whether youre using a 24 or a 44 key LED strip remote, you should press the button in the bottom right corner, which is usually the FADE7 button.
  • Turn the lights back on using the ON button, then press the RED color again.
  • Repeat the process until the red lights are lit when you press RED on the remote
  • Can Led Strip Lights Catch Fire

In normal circumstances, a LED strip will not start a fire. However, it is still an electrical device. In other words, a short can compromise the safety of any environment.

When you turn on the strip light, the diodes increase their temperature. Then, the heat dissipates into the air and through the contact at the base.

Over time, related problems can arise. For example, one of the wires you installed, which carried current, may lose its protection. Basically, the PVC material covering the copper or aluminum wire can melt away.

Because LED strip lights remain turned on for many hours, overheating is a real issue. For this reason, prevention is of the utmost importance.

Other than that risk, the LEDs themselves should not catch fire. At most, the current return can cause damage or shorten their life span. But the risk of an actual strip burning due to overheating is low.

In case of the installation of a new electronic control unit, make sure that it does support the connected products. In detail, the copper of the strip light may add to the overall resistance of the wires. Thus, heating them up in the entire system.

    Why You Should Trust Us

It wasnt easy to pick out these specific models from the seemingly infinite selection of Christmas lights in the world. But we reached our conclusions with the input of several people who live and breathe lights: Ben Orr, owner of Northern Seasonal Services, who has been professionally installing holiday lighting in the Chicago area since 2005 Jason Woodward, the director of sales and marketing at Christmas Designers, a retailer specializing in holiday lighting John Strainic, GEs general manager of North America consumer lighting and Anthony Krize, vice president of Nicolas Holiday, the brand-management company for GEs Christmas lights.

We also enlisted the aid of professionals in our testing process to help us assess the color quality of each string light set. In previous years, we consulted Susan Moriarty, executive creative director and founder of the Boston-based creative agency The Soapbox Studio, who has 20 years of experience as an art director, designer, and photographer. For our most recent round of testing, we relied on the eyes of Bridget Collins, the interim lighting and projections supervisor at the Tony Awardrecognized Huntington Theatre Company, a Boston theater where guide co-author Thom Dunn was a writing fellow from 2015 to 2017, as well as Ari Herzig, a professional lighting and projections designer.

    Solar Light Sensor Not Working

Outdoor LED stringlights on at night

Are your lights coming on at different times, or not turning on at all? This is often a problem with the solar light sensor that regulates the on-off cycle of your lights. To solve this, start by cleaning off any dirt and grime from the sensor. Also, make sure that your lights are located away from other artificial light sources. If you put your solar lights too close to home or street lights, they may not register the change from day to night.

If the methods above dont fix the issue, check with your manufacturer to see if they offer replacement sensors, as this will prevent you from having to purchase new lights.

First A Quick Explainer On How String Lights Work

Understanding how these lights work is the first step to figuring out whats wrong with them.

Each string is 2 parallel circuits, joined at the middle, and the ends. This means that one circuit is specifically for the lights, while the other circuit is for the power to continue on to the next string of lights, hence the 3 wires. Its designed this way so that if one of the parallel circuits were to be severed, power can still continue on to the next set of lights.

What this means is that you are never going to see one diode out, it will always be half of the string, or the whole string.
