Used 2014 Jeep Patriot Pricing

2017 Jeep Patriot – Features Review

Jeep claims you wont find a lower-priced 2014 SUV than the 2WD Sport Patriot, at just under $17,000, nor a lower-priced 4×4 than the 4WD Sport, at just over $19,000. At the top end, the 4WD Limited starts at just under $27,000. Given the cars econobox roots, you may feel hard-pressed to justify any of those prices. For a little more money , legions of more modern choices open up, albeit without some of the Jeeps special equipment. But if your budget says no to that stretch, then the Patriot may be in play. Plus, a car at the end of its production cycle will likely carry generous incentives. And be ready for rapid depreciation the Patriots retained value will be well below those of Asian nameplates.

Jeep Patriot Price And Verdict

Pricing for the 2017 Jeep Patriot is very attractive. A brand-new Jeep Patriot can cost anywhere between $18,000 and $27,000, depending on the form, powertrain configuration, and packages one chooses. But is the Jeep Patriot, as a purposed SUV, worth even that much? We wouldn’t say so, with competing utility vehicles and regular cars offering the same or a lot more at a similar price to the Patriot. The NHTSA’s review of the Jeep Patriot returned a rating of four stars out of five overall, with particularly weak scores for rollover tests.

The 2017 Jeep Patriot is, simply put, an outdated design that struggles to compete with more modern alternatives. Its chunky aesthetic, affordability, and the all-terrain prowess presented by certain trim levels may still sway some shoppers. However, there are rivals, even within the Jeep Patriot’s ranks and price range, that can better it in just about every department. If you’re a fan of the brand, we’d suggest going for the up-to-date Jeep Compass.

Used 2016 Jeep Patriot Pricing

The 2016 Jeep Patriot has an alluring Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price just over $18,000, making it the least expensive new SUV, but youll have to forgo such comforts as power windows and air conditioning. Better-equipped versions run in the $20,000 range, and a Latitude model with the High Altitude package can bump $30,000. At these prices, most Patriot models still undercut the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape and Subaru Forester, but those rivals are newer and generally more appealing. Still, theres no denying that the Patriot is an inexpensive SUV to buy and own, and its just coming off a win for the Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own Award in the Compact SUV/Crossover category. Be sure to check the KBB.com Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for their new Jeep Patriot. Long-term residual value is another aspect in which the Patriot lags competitors.

Simply put, the Patriot isn’t for those shoppers who want a modern interior, class-leading fuel economy, a relaxed ride or the latest in-car tech. But it does have a few benefits. As mentioned above, the Patriot will handle off-road obstacles better than competitors when equipped with Freedom Drive II. It’s also inexpensive, potentially undercutting other small crossover SUVs by thousands of dollars when purchased new. Tempering that, however, is that fact that the base Sport does without some features most people have come to take for granted, such as power accessories and air-conditioning, and will likely need to be added as options.

We recommend many competitors if you’re in the market for a small SUV. Jeep’s own Renegade is a more stylish and modern alternative, and you can still go off the beaten path effectively in the Trailhawk version. If keeping your crossover on the road is more your scene, check out the 2017 Honda HR-V, which boasts a large cargo area and excellent fuel economy. We also like the 2017 Mazda CX-3 for its blend of sporty handling and impressive cabin materials. These vehicles might end up costing you a little more up front than the Patriot. But as the old saw goes, you get what you pay for.

In Edmunds brake testing, the Patriot came to a stop from 60 mph in 121 feet, an average distance for this class.

Wd Vs Awd: Whats The Difference

2017 Jeep Patriot Sport

Traditional 4WD

In two-wheel-drive mode, the system delivers all the engine torque to the rear differential, so each rear wheel receives 50 percent of the available engine torque. In 4WD mode, each wheel receives 25 percent of the available engine torque. Older 4WD systems must be manually shifted between 2WD and 4WD and from 4HI to 4LO while the vehicle is stopped. Newer s 4 wheel drive systems have electronic push button on the fly features that let you shift while driving.

Traditional AWD

An AWD car can deliver all engine torque to all four wheels all the time. But some AWD systems deliver all engine torque to the front differential until the system detects wheel slip. Then it transfers a varying degree of engine torque to the rear wheels. So its a 2WD system most of the time. Other AWD systems work differently they split the engine torque 50/50 between the front and the rear differentials at all times unless they detect wheel slip. Then they reapportion the torque between the front and the back differentials based on need.

Jeep Patriot Review: A Fine But Acquired Taste

The Jeep Patriot has been around for a long time, ten years to be exact, and it is definitely looking its age as yet another year goes by with no changes made. As an overhauled version is on the horizon, it struggles, more than ever, to make a strong case for itself against far more refined and capable opponents. Its dotage is worsened by substandard safety ratings and uninspiring reliability reviews. A mediocre powertrain selection, ranging from 158 horsepower to 172 hp, is supplemented with a choice of three transmissions, but it lacks the practicality of an SUV, with below-average towing capacity and meager cargo space. Jeep has used rather transparent methods to counter the competition by offering very low prices and a modicum of off-road capability, which may still appeal to some shoppers. But, in reality, its stagnation has simply kept it from progressing in the constantly evolving automotive arena.

Driving The Used 2017 Jeep Patriot

You either buy a Jeep for its off-road prowess or powerful on-road performance. Unfortunately, the 2017 Jeep Patriot excels in neither category. While the top-line models do carry a Trail Rated badge worthy of tackling mud, snow and up to 19 inches of water, the Patriot is no Wrangler. Even the little Renegade Trailhawk offers a better off-road setup. On the highway, the Patriot is slow and loud and lacks any will to pass with urgency. We experienced fuel economy lower than the EPA estimates, and that was with the CVT automatic. The 6-speed automatic is preferable for both its performance and better reliability record, but is not available with Freedom Drive II. Ride comfort is rather car-like, a nice change from the firm suspensions of the Mazda CX-3 and Subaru Crosstrek. However, just about every other competitor is more fun to drive, offers superior ergonomics and will hold better resale value.

Jeep Patriot Suv Models And Options

The newest iteration of the Patriot is presented in either Sport, Sport SE, Latitude, or High Altitude trim levels. All are available with a choice of either FWD or AWD, depending on powertrain. Transmission choices are either a five-speed manual, six-speed automatic or CVT, once again dependent on form and engine configurations.

The base-spec has 16-inch wheels, manually-operated windows and door locks, cloth fabric, and a four-speaker audio setup. Bluetooth functions, cruise control, and USB connectivity make up the more upmarket features included.

The SE-spec receives heated front seats, 17-inch alloys, lifted ride heights on FWD variants, upgraded upholstery, and gray exterior accents.

Individual add-ons for both Sport models include air-conditioning and the Power Value Group, which adds electric mirrors, windows and door locks, as well as keyless entry. A 6.5-inch infotainment system is also selectable and features navigation on the Latitude. There are also various wheels offered, in varying styles and colors. The 16-inch Black Steel items look the best, especially with the Bright White paint scheme.

The Latitude gets all of the above and adds air-conditioning, reclining rear seatbacks, and a 115-volt outlet. There’s an upgraded sound system with speakers integrated into the flip-down tailgate up for grabs, too, along with an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a cargo cover.

Feeling Like A Modern But Not As Rugged Incarnation Of The Classic ’80s And ’90s Jeep Cherokee The Jeep Patriot Is A Simple Crossover That Makes A Decent Budget Choice

2017 Jeep Patriot 75th Anniversary Edition | Crosstown Auto Centre

It may look like the boxy, truck-like Cherokee of yore, but the Jeep Patriot is a very different animal. It’s dated up against rivalsincluding the latest Cherokee and the pint-sized Renegade parked across the Jeep showroombut the Patriot may be worth a look if value is one of your main priorities.

We consider the Jeep Patriot below average in most categories, rating it a 4.7 out of 10, but its low price and cheeky personality make it worth consideration if simple transportation is what you’re after.

For 2017, the Patriot’s lineup is largely unchanged as the small crossover awaits a full redesign next year. The 2017 Jeep Patriot is available in Sport, Sport SE, 75th Anniversary , Latitude, and High Altitude trim levels.

The Patriot lands in an intriguing middle ground for crossovers between mainstream models like the Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, or Toyota RAV4, and some of the smaller models such as the Subaru Crosstrek, Nissan Juke, and Mazda CX-5. The Patriot is also essentially identical to the Jeep Compass, aside from its exterior styling. Jeep positions the Compass as a slightly more premium model, but there the differences are purely cosmetic.

2017 Jeep Patriot styling and performance

The base engine on the Patriot is a 158-horsepower, 2.0-liter inline-4 mated to either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission . The 2.0-liter engine is only offered with front-wheel drive and isn’t highly recommended.

How To Use Traction/stability

Most new cars and trucks have a traction/stability control feature. The system automatically turns on every time you start your vehicle. When the traction/stability control system detects wheel slip or vehicle instability, it immediately tries to compensate by cutting engine power, braking the slipping wheel or braking other wheels to force the vehicle back into its intended path. It works great when youre traveling along the road and hit a slick spot. But when youre stuck, traction/stability control can work against you, making it harder to get out of a rut in snow, mud or ice.

So when you get stuck, turn off your vehicles traction/stability control. The procedure is different for each vehicle, so refer to your owners manual. Depending on the vehicle, the traction/stability control may turn itself on again after a set period or after an engine restart. You may have to turn it off repeatedly if youre stuck for an extended period.

Know How To Engage And Disengage Your 4wd

Some older and more basic 4WD systems must by engaged manually with the vehicle at a complete stop and the transmission in either Park or Neutral. Dont try to engage these 4 wheel drive systems when the vehicle is moving or you can damage expensive components. However, most 4WD systems can now be shifted into or out of 4WD on the fly at the push of a button. The most sophisticated 4WD systems are fully automatic. They shift into and out of 4WD automatically as the system detects the need for more traction.

Knowing when to use 4HI or 4LO is what causes the most confusion for 4WD vehicle owners, so here are some rules.

Family Handyman

Its Boxy Chunky Shape Has Aged Wellsort Of Like A Three

Certified Pre

Thick in Jeep design heritage by borrowing some design cues from the Wrangler up front and the slab-sided profile of the old Cherokee, the Jeep Patriot has aged remarkably well.

We liken its chunky dimensions to a three-day beard, which works well enough to score it 6 out of 10.

The Patriot debuted all the way back in late 2006 as a 2007 model and, aside from some very modest updates, it remains largely unchanged. There’s a light macho look to it that is softened by some gentle curves and plucky standard fog lamps. Its boxy exterior pays off some dividends inside, where its cargo area offers decent utility.

Inside, the Patriot’s interior is functional, but not luxurious. Clean gauges are easy to read at a glance and most switches are located about where you’d expect them, but the overall look is let down by niggling cheapness in its details.

The big elephant in the room remains the Jeep Renegade, which is priced near the Patriot but offers a more modern look and feel inside and out without too many size compromises.

The Patriot Lacks Fancy Features But Its Price Is Low Enough To Compensate

With the introduction of the Jeep Renegade last year, the Jeep Patriot saw its lineup barely pared to a still hefty five trim levels.

Base models are just that, but there are enough options available to help shoppers personalize a Patriot that we give it a 5 out of 10 for features and equipment.

At the Sport level, the Patriot includes cruise control, roof rails, fog lamps, illuminated cupholders, rear-seat heater ducts, tilt steering, cruise control, tinted glass, and an auxiliary input for audio. But air conditioning and power windows and locks are optional, which helps explain the roughly $18,000 base price.

All models now come standard with SiriusXM Satellite Radio and Bluetooth streaming audio.

The Sport SE adds alloy wheels, heated seats, and a few cosmetic items, but still requires buyers to pay extra for air conditioning and power accessories.

From there, the 75th Anniversary package offered to celebrate Jeep’s big birthday last year is carried over. It’s also largely cosmetic, but it does include useful tow hooks, remote start, and a sunroof. Curiously, despite having seat heaters and a power sunroof, the 75th Anniversary also requires buyers to pay up for air conditioning and power windows. Notice a theme here?

Finally, the range-topping High Altitude builds on the Latitude with a number of styling add-ons plus leather seating surfaces.

All four-wheel-drive Patriots include the 2.4-liter inline-4except those with the Freedom Drive II package.

A Poor Rating In The Iihs’ Small Overlap Test Is Cause For Concern

If you needed a reminder that the Jeep Patriot is more than a decade old, its safety scores should do that. Crash standards have changed, as have consumer expectations, which is why the Patriot scores a 2 out of 10.

In the government’s test, the Patriot scores four out of five stars, including especially worrisome three-star scores for frontal crash and rollover likelihood. It does, however, earn five stars for side impact per the NHTSA.

The IIHS, meanwhile, gives the Patriot top “Good” results in most categoriesexcept for an especially bad “Poor” rating in the agency’s tougher new small-overlap frontal crash test.

Outward vision is decent in the Patriot, but its roof pillars are much thicker than many newer rivals that make use of more advanced steel. A rearview camera is optional across the lineup.

No crash prevention system is available and the Patriot includes what is essentially the bare minimum of airbagssix total.

At these prices, most models of the Patriot still undercut the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Ford Escape and Subaru Forester, but all of those rivals are newer and generally more appealing. Driving The Used 2016 Jeep Patriot

Jeep Patriot Review | 2007-2017

Jeeps have a long history of favoring off-road capability over on-road comfort. Most models of the Patriot, though, dont stand out in either setting. Yes, you can get a Patriot that is Trail-Rated to slog through mud, snow and up to 19 inches of water, but to do so you must option up to the Freedom Drive II package. On the asphalt where most Patriots will roam, Jeeps least expensive SUV is simply outclassed by newer rivals that offer better performance, handling, ride quality and fuel economy. Neither of the Patriots available 4-cylinder engines feels very strong, and the CVT transmission does more for fuel economy than it does for performance, although the optional 6-speed automatic improves the latter. Highway ride and handling are okay, as long as you dont compare the Patriot to a more refined small SUV of which there are plenty.
