In 2000, Donald Trump Jr. graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business with a bachelor’s degree in economics. But, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Trump Jr. had no business going off on Felicity Huffman or anyone else involved in the college admissions scandal because he, too, benefitted from his connections in order to get into the prestigious school.
The outlet reports that a “backdoor practice” got Trump Jr. in the door at Wharton and children from wealthy families benefit from it all the time. “Around the time Trump’s son Donald Jr. and daughter Ivanka began classes at Penn in 1996 and 2000, respectively, the university and its private Manhattan clubhouse benefited from more than $1.4 million in pledged donations from Trump,” The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
While this is certainly an unfair practice, it is by no means illegal. But did Donald Trump Jr. leave a positive legacy behind him when he graduated? Read on to find out.
Approval Ratings And Scholar Surveys
Trump was the only president to never reach a 50% approval rating in the Gallup poll dating to 1938. The approval ratings showed a record partisan gap: 88 percent among Republicans, 7 percent among Democrats. Until September 2020, the ratings were unusually stable, reaching a high of 49 percent and a low of 35 percent. Trump finished his term with a record-low approval rating of between 29 percent and 34 percent and a record-low average of 41 percent throughout his presidency.
In Gallup’s annual poll asking Americans to name the man they admire the most, Trump placed second to Obama in 2017 and 2018, tied with Obama for most admired man in 2019, and was named most admired in 2020. Since Gallup started conducting the poll in 1948, Trump is the first elected president not to be named most admired in his first year in office.
White Nationalists And Charlottesville Rally
On August 13, 2017, Trump condemned violence “on many sides” after a gathering of hundreds of white nationalists in Charlottesville, Virginia, the previous day turned deadly. A white supremacist drove a car into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing one woman and injuring 19 others. According to Sessions, that action met the definition of domestic terrorism. During the rally there had been other violence, as some counter-protesters charged at the white nationalists with swinging clubs and mace, throwing bottles, rocks, and paint. Trump did not expressly mention Neo-Nazis, white supremacists, or the alt-right movement in his remarks on August 13, but the following day condemned “the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups“. On August 15, he again blamed “both sides”.

What Kind Of Student Was He Was Penn
The Boston Globe reports that when Donald Trump transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, he was an outsider on the Ivy League campus in Philadelphia, with few friends. But that didnt faze Trump. The Globe reports that when a professor asked students in his small class why they had chosen to study real estate, Trump stood up and said, Im going to be the king of New York real estate. The brash personality that Americans now know well was already in full bloom during his college years, according to more than a dozen Wharton classmates.

Trump filed a “$1 million defamation counter-claim against Makaeff,” but, in June 2014, a judge dismissed the claim and ordered Trump to pay $798,000 in legal fees to Makaeff.

Allegations Of Inciting Violence
Research suggests Trumps rhetoric caused an increased incidence of hate crimes. During his 2016 campaign, he urged or praised physical attacks against protesters or reporters. Since then, some defendants prosecuted for hate crimes or violent acts cited Trumps rhetoric in arguing that they were not culpable or should receive a lighter sentence. In May 2020, a nationwide review by ABC News identified at least 54 criminal cases from August 2015 to April 2020 in which Trump was invoked in direct connection with violence or threats of violence by mostly white men against mostly members of minority groups. On January 13, 2021, the House of Representatives impeached Trump for incitement of insurrection for his actions prior to the storming of the U.S. Capitol by a violent mob of his supporters who acted in his name.

Trump frequently mentions the fact that he did very well at Wharton. He told CNN, I went to the Wharton School of Finance, I got very good marks, I was a good student, its the best business school in the world, as far as Im concerned. It has been reported for decades that Trump graduated at the top of his class, but this claim has been called into question. It was first reported in The New York Times back in 1973 and was repeated ever since, but no journalist has been able to find any evidence that confirms Trumps class standing.
In fact, the New York Times later reported that the commencement program from 1968 does not list Trump as having graduated with honors of any kind. A 1985 biography confirmed that he was not among the honor students in 1968. Rather, Jerome Tuccille reports in her book, Trump: The Saga of Americas Most Powerful Real Estate Baron, that he attended Wharton to please his father and was not especially invested in doing well.
Donald agreed to attend Wharton for his fathers sake, Tuccille writes. He showed up for classes and did what was required of him but he was clearly bored and spent a lot of time on outside business activities.
In his book The Art of the Deal, Trump himself states that, in his opinion, a degree from Wharton doesnt prove very much.

On June 1, 2020, federal law enforcement officials used batons, rubber bullets, pepper spray projectiles, stun grenades, and smoke to remove a largely peaceful crowd of protesters from Lafayette Square, outside the White House. Religious leaders condemned the treatment of protesters and the photo opportunity itself.
