Steelers Vs Eagles Prediction

Bill Belichick on Patriots Struggles vs Colts, Upcoming Schedule, & MORE | CBS Sports HQ

The Steelers are just a week removed from beating the Cowboys in the Hall of Fame Game. Now, theyll get a look at the Eagles, coming off a disappointing fourth-place finish in the NFC East last season.

Leading the Steelers this season at QB is long-time starter Ben Roethlisberger. As expected, the veteran will continue to sit out of preseason action. Thus, attention turns to Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins, the latter of which performed better overall last week against Dallas. Eyes will also be on rookie running back Najee Harris and whether or not hell get more than his 7 carries from last Thursday night.

Expectations arent high for Pittsburgh this season. Even lower expectations exist for the Jalen Hurts-led Philadelphia team in 2021. And thats the biggest question mark is Hurts ready to lead an NFL team? Unfortunately, we wont see his rapport with rookie wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who is currently nursing a knee injury.

The Eagles are currently 1-point home favorites, and the moneyline is set at -120 for them to win. However, the Steelers may have the ultimate edge in tonights preseason contest with a game already under their belt.

Patriots Injury Report Vs Giants For Preseason Week 3

The Patriots are mostly healthy, though theyll be without NKeal Harry, who sustained a shoulder injury in Week 2 against the Eagles. The third-year WR will be out a minimum of four weeks, so dont expect to see him on Sunday.

Stephon Gilmore, meanwhile, is continuing to rehab from quad surgery. Belichick recently called the star cornerback day-to-day, so well update his status later in the week if he returns to practice.

The COVID-19 pandemic put the kibosh on the entire NFL preseason in 2020, but exhibition games are back this August. There are just fewer of them.

Starting with the 2021 regular season, the NFL gives fans an 18th week and each team a 17th game. With that addition comes the subtraction of one preseason game, meaning there will be fewer opportunities for star players to get injured in games that dont matter.

Preseason actions starts with the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Dallas Cowboys in the Hall of Fame Game on Fox Thursday, August 5, at 8/7c in Canton, Ohio. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott returns after suffering a devastating ankle injury last October, however, a shoulder injury will keep him sidelined for Thursdays game.

Compare that with Nick Sirianni, the former Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator who started his tenure as Philadelphias head coach with a preseason loss to the Steelers last week. Past performances dont guarantee future results, however, and the Eagles could turn things around with a home win this evening.

Patriots Vs Eagles Matchup Preview

Things are drastically different for both the Patriots and Eagles from when they met in Super Bowl LII in 2017. The Patriots no longer have the GOAT Tom Brady and the Eagles have seen the departure of both their Super Bowl-winning quarterback Nick Foles and head coach Doug Pederson, as well as the oft-injured potential franchise quarterback Carson Wentz. After down years in 2020 that saw each team miss the playoffs , they are hoping to bounce back in 2021.

While the Patriots have said goodbye to Brady, they still have arguably the greatest coach in NFL history, Bill Belichick, so you can never count them out. Still, the biggest storyline for the Patriots is the quarterback battle between incumbent starter and former MVP Cam Newton and the rookie Mac Jones. In the Patriots first preseason game, both Newton and Jones had respectable, if not overly flashy, outings. Either way, the Patriots are no longer the proverbial favorites in the AFC East, as the Buffalo Bills are the defending division champs and will be most pundits pick to do so again.

Like all preseason games, it will be more about evaluation than actual results, but both the Patriots and Eagles have plenty to keep an eye on in this one.

Preseason week 4 Patriots vs Giants: Game time, TV schedule, channels ...

The NFL is entering its third and final preseason week. There will be fewer storylines to watch in Week 3 than the previous two weeks of preseason action more teams will be resting their starters but there are still some intriguing ones out there.

Above all else, the quarterback battles still bear watching. The Patriots, 49ers and Saints still have yet to announce their starting quarterbacks for Week 1, though it seems like Cam Newton, Jimmy Garoppolo and Jameis Winston hold the lead in the latter three battles.

Still, each coach is going to continue his team’s quarterback competition through Week 3 of the preseason. That means Mac Jones, Trey Lance and Taysom Hill all still have a chance to emerge as the starters it just might take a lot to unseat the favorites.

Outside of those competitions, this week will be a good chance to look at some of the NFL’s other backup quarterbacks. Notably, Dwayne Haskins is getting to start for the Steelers as he competes with Mason Rudolph for the backup job. If Haskins does well, he could be tapped as the eventual successor to Ben Roethlisberger.

And, of course, countless players will be fighting for final roster spots. NFL teams have to cut their 80-man rosters down to 53 by 4 p.m. ET on Aug. 31. As such, this will be the last chance for many players to make a case for a place on a roster or practice squad.

Was There Preseason Thursday Night Football Games Thursday

Yes, there were one game of NFL preseason football today to fill our Thursday evening. With more games pushed back into Sunday and Monday this week, we had to settle for just one as opposed to the two we had last week but at least there was finally more football on our televisions.

Once again this week, we got to see the Patriots QB battle play out in front of our eyes. Could Mac Jones or Cam Newton strike a potentially crucial blow in the fight to be the Week 1 starter?

Patriots Vs Eagles Prediction For Thursdays Game

There were a number of questions surrounding both of these teams heading into Thursdays NFL game. We had an early glimpse of them going head-to-head in joint practices, but we got to see it on the field in front of a stadium full of fans.

The Patriots were actually slight favorites with many sportsbooks. That was somewhat surprising the news we had heard early in the week suggested the Eagles were dominating the Patriots in those joint practices.

Where this game was tricky to judge is when it comes to motivation. Usually, a team with an active QB battle would be the one to look at with more to play for. However, while Joe Flacco might not actively be in a QB battle, in his mind, he likely still wants to prove he can be a starter.

That could have made for an intriguing NFL game today, as Flacco would be facing off against Newton or Jones when he is on the field. You would expect nothing less from a former Super Bowl-winning QB.

That could also mean this is one of the higher-scoring games of the week, and the total at 38.5 reflects that. Both teams had players capable of producing long touchdowns. That meant the over was in play in this type of game situation.

The New England Patriots will look to keep their undefeated preseason campaign alive when they face the New York Giants on Sunday.

It remains to be see how long Bill Belichick will play his starters, but you have to think both Cam Newton and Mac Jones will get a lot of reps if Newton ends up cleared for takeoff.

After all, the two quarterbacks might be on level ground in their competition in light of the report that claims the Patriots are frustrated with Newton for being forced to miss three days of practice due to a misunderstanding of COVID-19 tests that he underwent away from the team facility.
