Kentucky Congressional Delegation Contacts President In Support Of Governors Request Of 100% Cost Sharing Extension For Tornado Disaster Cleanup

‘Democrats Get One Shot’: McConnell Says GOP Will Help Raise Debt Ceiling

WASHINGTON, D.C. Kentucky’s federal delegation, including U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, Senator Rand Paul, and Representatives Hal Rogers , John Yarmuth , Brett Guthrie , Andy Barr , Thomas Massie , and James Comer sent a joint letter today to President Joe Biden expressing their support for Governor Andy Beshear’s request for a 60-day extension for the ongoing 100% reimbursement to Kentucky for costs associated with storm debris removal and emergency protective measures for Kentucky communities hardest-hit by tornadoes and severe weather on December 10, 2021.

State and local officials have expressed concern to us that the current 30-day period may not be sufficient in length for the scope of debris removal As you know, Kentucky has also experienced several storms since those in early December, including a severe storm that swept across the state on January 1, 2022, impacting at least 31 counties and further complicating debris removal, the delegation stated in their letter to the President. Some of the same counties impacted by the December 10, 2021, tornadoes now face new debris and power outages after being struck by tornadoes, torrential rain and wind, and flash flooding. These state and local officials continue to be concerned that debris removal crews may not be available to remove the vast amount of debris within the 30-day window.

Us House Of Representatives

After Ford returned to Grand Rapids in 1946, he became active in local Republican politics, and supporters urged him to challenge , the incumbent Republican congressman. Military service had changed his view of the world. “I came back a converted “, Ford wrote, “and of course our congressman at that time was an avowed, dedicated . And I thought he ought to be replaced. Nobody thought I could win. I ended up winning two to one.”

During his first campaign in 1948, Ford visited voters at their doorsteps and as they left the factories where they worked. Ford also visited local farms where, in one instance, a wager resulted in Ford spending two weeks milking cows following his election victory.

Ford was a member of the House of Representatives for 25 years, holding seat from 1949 to 1973. It was a tenure largely notable for its modesty. As an editorial in The New York Times described him, Ford “saw himself as a negotiator and a reconciler, and the record shows it: he did not write a single piece of major legislation in his entire career.” Appointed to the two years after being elected, he was a prominent member of the . Ford described his philosophy as “a moderate in domestic affairs, an internationalist in foreign affairs, and a conservative in fiscal policy.” He voted in favor of the ,,, and , as well as the and the . Ford was known to his colleagues in the House as a “Congressman’s Congressman”.

What Mitch Mcconnell Sees As The Democrats”big Lie’

As Republican officials at the state level got to work last year making it harder for voters to cast ballots, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell responded with a specific strategy: The Kentucky Republican pretended the efforts didn’t exist. “States are not engaging in trying to suppress voters whatsoever,” the…

The voting rights Demorats want is the right for illegals to vote! That’s why our border has been left wide open and illegals flown secretly to different states, illegal votes are the only votes Dems will get in 2022!

The writer of this article needs to do a little research on voting laws. Non-citizens, non-residents of the precinct where they cast their ballot or dead people, have NO RIGHT to vote. Motor-voter was designed to let non-citizens get on the registration lists, and stoping the States from purging their lists, was intended to let them vote, illegally. Nobody’s vote is being suppressed, and any state that allows any non-citizen to vote, allows China, Mexico, Russia, etc. to manipulate our elections. Same with allowing non-residents, people in one state have NO RIGhT to vote in another state.

Carbon Capture And Energy Efficiency

McConnell tends to play defense on climate change.

He has not put forward his own climate plan, nor have Republicans in the Senate under his leadership.

After the House of Representatives passed cap-and-trade legislation in 2009, McConnell referred to the bill as the national energy tax, and said he was glad to see its demise in the Senate, which did not even put it up for a vote.

Now McConnell is touting his support for carbon capture and storagea technology embraced by many Republicans as a way to keep burning coal in a carbon-constrained worldand for budgets that include energy efficiency. He favors, he says, common sense and actually attainable solutions to protect our environment.

The League of Conservation Voters gives McConnell a 14 percent 2019 score and a 7 percent lifetime score for his votes on environmental legislation.

McConnell has defended his overall environmental record, mentioning his funding of local conservation efforts in Kentucky and his backing of this years bipartisan Great American Outdoor Act. The Act, signed into law by President Trump, provides $900 million in annual funding for public land protection and up to $1.9 billion a year for five years to fund a maintenance backlog at national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges.

Trump Repeats Call For Gop To Oust Mitch Mcconnell As Punishment For Working With Democrats To Stop The Us Defaulting On Its Debt

Republican vs. Democrat? Mitch McConnell uses Reid
  • Trump called for GOP House Minority leader Mitch McConnell to be removed from his position.

  • It comes after McConnell cut a new deal with Democrats to raise the debt ceiling.

  • Trump previously called in October for McConnell to be ousted before the deal was done.

Former President Donald Trump called for Republicans to rebel against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and oust him from his leadership position as vengeance for brokering a deal to raise the federal debt ceiling.

Trump called McConnell a broken old crow and criticized him for working with Senate Democrats on the debt ceiling deal instead of using it as leverage to oppose President Joe Bidens spending plans.

McConnell gave Democrats limited support in the Senate, allowing them to overcome to filibuster rule and use their own votes to lift the debt ceiling, a limit beyond which the US government is forbidden to borrow.

Mitch McConnell is giving the Democrats victory on everything, Trump said in a statement issued by his spokesperson Liz Harrington through Twitter on Sunday.

What is wrong with this Broken Old Crow? Hes hurting the Republican Senators and the Republican Party. When will they vote him out of Leadership?

He didnt have the guts to play the Debt Ceiling card, which would have given the Republicans a complete victory on virtually everything. The Dems were ready to fold!

WASHINGTON Senator Mitch McConnell is extending an open invitation to Senator Joe Manchin III come on over to our side.

Mr. McConnell, the Kentucky Republican and minority leader, said on Tuesday that he was astonished by the angry response that Mr. Manchin of West Virginia elicited from the White House and his fellow Democrats with his Sunday bombshell that he would oppose President Bidens signature domestic policy bill.

The Senate, Mr. McConnell noted, is an institution where the most important vote is the next one, leaving the Republican leader perplexed as to what drove Democrats to impugn Mr. Manchins integrity by accusing him of reneging on commitments to the president.

Why in the world would they want to call him a liar and try to hotbox him and embarrass him? Mr. McConnell, who is just one Senate seat away from regaining the majority leader title, asked in an interview. I think the message is, We dont want you around. Obviously that is up to Joe Manchin, but he is clearly not welcome on that side of the aisle.

Senate Republicans Who Once Backed Killing The Filibuster Now Want To Save It

The Senate GOP is doing everything possible to block rule changes that would allow Democrats to protect voting rights.

Senate Republicans are furious that the Democratic majority is considering possible changes to the filibuster rules that allow a minority to block legislation.

But just a few years ago, when Republicans held a majority and the White House, many of them wanted to do the same thing to get their own priorities passed.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell objected to Democratic efforts to pass voting rights legislation by majority vote. Current Senate rules require a three-fifths supermajority, or 60 votes, to end debate on nearly all legislation, allowing just 41% of the senators to thwart the will of the majority and voters.

“It appears as if the majority leader is hellbent to try to break the Senate,” the Kentucky Republican complained. “His argument is that somehow state legislatures across the country are busily at work trying to make it more difficult for people to vote. Of course, that’s not happening anywhere in America.”

In 2021, 19 state legislatures passed laws making it more difficult for people to vote.

Schumer has said he plans to bring up the bill, which would enhance federal voting rights protections and overrule state suppression laws, on or before Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 17.

Trump Attacks Dour Leader Mitch Mcconnell

Former President Donald Trump has launched a scathing personal attack on fellow Republican Mitch McConnell.

“Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack,” said Mr Trump, “and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again.”

His statement came after Mr McConnell said the former president was “morally responsible” for the US Capitol riots.

The exchange exposed an apparent rift between the two over the future of the Republican party.

The majority of Republican senators backed Mr Trump in his impeachment trial last week, including Mr McConnell who voted to acquit.

But in a speech on the Senate floor, Mr McConnell implied the former president should face criminal and civil litigation because he was “still liable for everything he did while in office”.

He said Mr Trump’s actions prior to the riots on 6 January amounted to “a disgraceful dereliction of duty”.

The feud has prompted concern among some Republicans about the impact it may have on next year’s mid-term elections. The party is trying to regroup having lost the House, the Senate and the presidency.

“I’m more worried about 2022 than I’ve ever been,” Senator Lindsey Graham told Fox News.

“I don’t want to eat our own,” he added. “We need to knock this off.”

Voting Rights And Election Security

McConnell opposes restoring the voting rights of felons. In 2019, McConnell blocked Democrats from bringing a voting reform bill up for a vote in the Senate.

In 2019, he claimed that Democrats were at fault for election fraud in the 2018 North Carolina 9th congressional district election, and that voter ID laws would have prevented the fraud. There was substantial evidence that the operatives working for Republican candidate , not the Democratic candidate, engaged in an illegal ballot harvesting operation. Voter ID laws would not have prevented the ballot harvesting that took place experts said that McConnell was conflating ballot fraud with voter fraud . The Associated Press and PolitiFact described McConnell’s remarks as “misleading.”

In 2019, McConnell blocked a range of bipartisan proposals to improve election security amid the threat of foreign election interference. The blocked bills included the Secure Elections Act, the Protecting the Right to Independent and Democratic Elections Act, the Protecting American Votes and Elections Act, and the Honest Ads Act. He again blocked two election security bills the day after Special Counsel Robert Mueller testified in the House of Representatives that U.S. election security was threatened by foreign powers.

In response to McConnell’s blocking election security bills, he has been sarcastically nicknamed “Moscow Mitch,” with the hashtag #MoscowMitchMcTreason

Letters To The Editor Jan 2 2022

Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell said the GOP would certainly welcome West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin if he was so inclined to flip parties.

Manchin has been bashed by his partisan colleagues for pledging to vote against President Joe Bidens Build Back Better plan.

Speaking on Fox News The Guy Benson Show podcast, the Kentucky senator called Manchins no vote the single greatest favor Joe Manchin could give this country, amid rising inflation costs.

McConnell said he wasnt sure how Manchin would vote but is pleased that his decision effectively ends any chance that the bill will get the 50 Democratic votes it requires in the evenly divided Senate.

It was an exciting thing to hear, he added. It was a great shot in the arm for the country. I think its exactly what the country needed at this particular time.

Manchin has cited decades of high inflation, the spiking national debt and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as his reasons for objecting to the approximately $2 trillion Build Back Better Act.

Manchins no vote has put him at odds with the Biden administration and leaders in his own party, including Chuck Schumer who said Democrats were disappointed but plan to move forward with a vote early next year, vowing neither that delay, nor other recent pronouncements, will deter us from continuing to try to find a way forward.

Manchins home state of West Virginia voted 69 percent in favor of Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

When Did Mcconnell And Trump’s Relationship Sour

The two Republicans shared a cordial working relationship throughout Mr Trump’s presidency.

That changed, however, after Mr Trump lost the presidential election. Mr McConnell said he had not spoken to Mr Trump since mid-December.

The rift between them was exacerbated after the Capitol riots, which led to the deaths of five people including a police officer.

Mr Trump, who was impeached by the House of Representatives over the violence, was acquitted by the Senate on charges of inciting the insurrection.

Only seven Republicans joined the Democrats in voting to convict Mr Trump. Mr McConnell and 42 other Republicans voted to acquit.

A two-thirds vote was needed to convict.

Despite voting to acquit, Mr McConnell excoriated the former president on the Senate floor after the vote.

“There is no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day,” he said.

“A mob was assaulting the Capitol in his name,” he added. “These criminals were carrying his banners, hanging his flags and screaming their loyalty to him.”

The relationship between Mr Trump and Mr McConnell is not the only one to have soured over the past month.

On Tuesday, an adviser to Mr Trump said that former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani has stopped doing legal work for the former president.

Mr Giuliani is “not currently representing President Trump in any legal matters,” Jason Miller told CNN.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Tuesdat that Biden has taken every step possible under his purview to protect voting rights, and that there would be more discussion about a path forward after Wednesdays vote.
